Westfield Horton Plaza

What used to be an exciting shopping experience is now a dud with a thud. Empty shops everywhere. It is a ghost town of it’s former self. What a horrible Westfield shopping center. There was more excitement at the Ralph’s Fresh across the street. Save your time an pass on Horton Plaza. Your San Diego time can be better spent going to the famous zoo or the Midway aircraft carrier a few blocks away.

Nope.
So, this is what San Diego calls a mall? Really?
The stairs are sketchy, it’s full of bums, the escalators don’t take you to every level and good luck finding anything you’re actually looking for.
The food court is tiny and has nothing interesting.
Sadly, this place has potential but is a huge fail in my opinion. Some serious reno could make this place an awesome stop for a fun day’s shopping but it just missed the mark for me.

Ugh! I am so disgusted! Every time I walk on the first floor, I always smell this smoke coming from cigarettes that these people keep smoking INSIDE the mall, next to their buddies who work at this cellphone case stand. I believe these people work at the face cleansing place next to the T-​Mobile cart. They are so nasty and so rude and need to be banned. This smell lingers and I get acid reflux smelling it. I would like to shop/​eat in peace without smelling smoke from cigarettes literally every time I walk by.

So disgusting. This mall always allows the kiosk employees to stand around and smoke cigarettes all day long. I was walking thru during my lunch and as security stopped them and walked off they continue to do it. Like I really wanna buy a phone case from someone smoking s cigarette in my face.

Interesting location for a mall. Stores close somewhat early given said location, but I suppose there are better things to do in Gaslamp. The free parking is a necessary bonus to get more foot traffic. The entrances to street level can be somewhat difficult to navigate with strange stretches of hallway leading between parking levels, the mall, stairs, and the elevator.

So far so good every problem that I’ve had they always addressed and taken care of it and I have gotten some pretty good deals here too so we’ll see if we can keep it up

Parking is not bad either, don’t let it stop you from visiting. They validate shoppers for 2 or 3 hours I believe regardless if you buy anything.
Hack #1: Lesson learned from two nights ago when I came with my friend. If you’re coming downtown to party at night park in the mall parking and get it validated INSIDE the mall and they go have fun. Parking switches to nightly rate of $ 20? after 9pm…
Hack #2: If you party later then 9pm buy movie ticket and have the theater validate… the movie ticket will be cheaper than $ 20. I think the theater validates for 3 or 4 hours…

I see don’t get it, some how the City of SD cheap out on the one mall that is located in downtown where all the tourists get dropped off from the cruise ship or in general tourist. SD prides itself on «America’s Finest City» yet can’t even renovate the mall. It could be such a huge money maker for the city… instead this mall is full of mazes, confusing parking structures and bums. I’m not gonna lie, this mall is a piece of crap.
Just like the Charger’s stadium, this mall is pretty ancient. It’s probably the worst mall in SD County. UTC mall did such a nice job renovating, now there’s more customers then I’ve ever seen it. When will this happen to Horton’s? Will it take another 10 years? 20 years? C’mon SD! Take advantage of downtown and the tourists.
I really want this mall to tear down and be rebuilt into something that makes sense. I’m not talking about level 2 that is really level 1 or which parking lot you parked in, fruit or veggies, tomatoes look like apples… spend 30 minutes looking for an entrance or exit or your car… It’s just so damn confusing and dead! I’ve never seen so many bums lounge around a mall or in the mall either. The mall also has creepy stairways near Nordstrom’s side and escalators that do not bring you to every floor. It’s really pan’s labyrinth. Bring better food options and revamp some of the stores. I feel bad for Horton’s…
Plus side, you get 3 hours parking for free! They took that away couple years ago and the mall was a nuclear waste zone. So they brought it back and that’s the only cool thing about this mall! And ok ok, if you don’t want to deal with the crowds at Fashion… this might be a better choice.

I’d like to nominate Westfield Horton Plaza for a mall makeover. It looks like at one time it was a nice place to shop, but seemed rundown and not very well maintained during my visit. What’s with all the stairs? This place is like walking through a maze and even with a map it’s easy to get lost. The stairs are different throughout the mall and not all of them appeared very safe with some missing pieces of tile and other things. Major tripping hazard! I sure got my work out making it to the 5^th level where I was needing to go that’s for sure! Westfield Horton Plaza has pretty much the same retail stores that any mall offers, but this one does have a few places to eat that you don’t always find in a mall and it’s nice to have more than the normal fast food options. There is a parking garage and parking is free Mon — Sun from 9:30 am until 9:00 pm with validation for the first 3 hours of your visit. make sure and validate your ticket or they will make you pay on your way out. They had a machine right where I walked in from the parking garage, but also check with stores you make purchases at to see if they can validate your parking. The restaurant I ate at validated mine with no problem. I wouldn’t make a point to come here shopping unless they prettied the place up some however I’d be more likely to stop by to pick up food.

I use to come here 20 years ago, and it was busy, and business were open. Unlike that last 3 years when I got back from overseas, and now it is like a ghost town. Some of those places such as the pretzel shop closed down, other restaurants came and left. I am surprised that Macy’s over here isn’t on the chopping block to be closed. It was dead when ever I went there to the mall. Sad, I loved coming here a lot. There was one time about 15 years ago, I was being followed, I remember walking around that mall while being followed, but couldn’t ditch that guy. Then I ducked into a jewelry store (they have security in the store) I ended up buying a watch for my husband. He finally left me alone. But it was interesting being followed and walking around that place which is a maze. Memories.

Not exactly the best selection of stores. The most disappointing factor was the lack of Christmas decorations up. Saturday night, one week before Christmas, where are the holiday lights?!
Make sure to validate parking! It’s $ 8 an hour, but they have free 3 hours with validation.

The layout of this shopping mall is just so confusing! You see a store on the floor below but have no clue how to get there, cuz the elevators will take you two floors down. Also, lack of maps makes navigation and browsing more of a trial and error.
Having said that, I did like a lot of the stores here (they have Express, VS, Banana Republic and more) and several had really good promotions now in December, not sure if that was just temporary or not. Also, don’t miss out on the comic book store on the top floor — great selection of comics from small&big publishers + merchandise.

I have a love/​hate relationship with Horton Plaza. If you’re leisurely walking around trying to kill time, the Alice in Wonderland design is great, but if you’re searching for a particular store and you’re not familiar with the layout, you’ll be staring at your destination from another floor entirely confused on how to get there.
We visit this mall whenever we’re in San Diego just to walk around and hang out, but I’ve noticed an influx of transients in this particular area as of recent.
Horton Plaza has a wide variety of stores from your staple classics such as Nordstrom and Macy’s as well as some cool private shops like Comics N Stuff. Make sure you don’t forget to get your parking validated prior to exiting the mall. That shyza can get expensive without validation.

We were staying close by and heard of this center from a friend. We found it to be in walking distance and was just a short way to get to it. this is a multi-​level center and there are many shops to choose from. We strolled through and went into several shops. Luckily there was a Starbucks right there as well so i was able to sit and check my email while my wife shopped in the stores. it worked out just fine. It was hard to buy too much as we were traveling but, If I were a local i would visit here often. There are signs that help you find the shops you what shops are there and where they are located. There is also a big parking garage and you can get your ticket validated for free parking. A very nice facility.

I can’t believe this is a part of Westfield. This mall is horrible. I’m sorry but the architecture of this mall is confusing and out of place. There are no key directions to anywhere, the stores are just C-​, the size of the mall is pretty big but tight and small looking only because the maze look. There is no appeal to this mall whatsoever. It’s the only mall inside the heart of downtown which is why it can be convenient at times but there isn’t enough good up to date stores like H&M, ZARA, etc.

My old hangout spot during my Navy years, this place has the same charming vibe it did ten years ago.
Parking is never an issue in downtown San Diego, thanks to the numerous parking spots at the Plaza’s huge multi-​story parking lots. A word of advice: get validation from the machine on the first floor before heading out, as parking without validation can get a bit pricey. Same goes for weekends, and I believe only the movie theater validates on Friday and Saturday evenings (after 9:00PM).
There are a plethora of shopping options here. I don’t shop here as often as I did a decade ago, but I still stop by every once in a while en route to, or coming from, the many restaurants adjacent to the Plaza. I usually get an iced tea or latte at Starbucks before making the drive back to Los Angeles.

Unlike any design you’ll ever see in a shopping mall. It’s kind of cool design. From the outside, you just see another large structure, but inside (although there is no roof) the layout is uniquely strange making this an interesting stop just to check it out. Because of the layout, it’s not easy to go from one shop across the way. But it looks cool. As far as the stores, nothing really interesting here and surprisingly, shop selection is limited as well. Just go inside to check it out, then head to the Gaslamp district, where you really want to be.

Overall 2.5 stars. Located in the heart of Downtown San Diego, Horton Plaza offers 3 free hours of validated parking (no purchase necessary) or 2 hours free (through 24 Hour Fitness).
Jimbo’s has their own special parking lot the «green level 4» for 60 min. You can still park anywhere in the lot and get 3 hr. validated if you like.
There’s a movie theater, Panda Inn, food court, Jimbo’s, 24 HF and a bunch of other shops. I’m not a big mall shopping person (overpriced). I only come here on Fridays at 12pm to take Paul H.‘s amaze balls spin class.
My only complaint about the mall is that they have outside seating by the parking validation machine, outside Jimbo’s and outside 24HF, which is nice (I’m sure there are other seating spots, but these are the only ones I go to). HOWEVER, it is 100% ruined by the mall allowing smoking there. WTH?! It’s 2015! Get with the program. Westfield UTC got it right by turning their outdoor mall 100% smoke free! Why ruin our eating experience by forcing us to smell disgusting and unhealthy smoke! Blech. I have to pinch my nose EVERY SINGLE TIME I validate and if I sit in any of those spots.
It cracks me up to see the smoker sitting outside Jimbo’s having his healthy veggie shake WHILE inhaling like there’s no tomorrow… or outside 24HF in their workout gear putting out their cigarette right before going into the gym. Oxymoron? lol
Hey, you wanna smoke? Fine by me. But please be courteous to others and do it in your home or your car. Please don’t make my allergies act up or give me your lung cancer. OK Rant over.
PLEASE!!! Westfield Horton Plaza. Turn the entire mall 100% smoke-​free! Please and thank you from all the patrons!

Conveniently located next to my hotel, the Westin, this shopping mall is an easy stop. The layout design and amount of floor levels I wasn’t expecting, but it is still a shopping mall. There’s a good amount of shops and stores packed into this corner. Even though I had to find my way around, it was nice to explore and walk. I was specifically searching for a bookstore to pick up a good read for my flight back home. I was pleasantly surprised to find that there actually is one! Made it better that it was a bookstore that sells used books and little San Diego souvenirs. Little things here and there were pretty cool and definitely felt different from any other Westfield malls I’ve been to.

I have a love hate relationship with this mall.
I hate the weird parking situation. It’s either a veggie or a fruit. Take a picture of where you parked and take mental notes of where you entered from.
I love that people avoid this mall resulting in a better clearance selection than other malls. Victoria secret and Banana Republic are my favorite stores to hit for clearance. I feel more people go to Fashion and always buy all the sizes I wear.
Hate the weird escalator and stairs maze they put you through.
I love the selection of stores. They have almost every store I love with the exception of The Limited. I have to go to Fashion Valley for that one.
Hate how many homeless people are here. Also hate the very pushy cart people. I feel they are extra aggressive here.

I hadn’t ventured down to Horton Plaza in years. I used to frequent this mall located in downtown quite often as it was a popular place to eat, watch movies and hang out while in high school. However, it appears time has taken it’s toll over the years. The mall looks dinged up and showing it’s age.
This may be a pretty typical occurrence in downtown malls, but the stairway wreaked of urine. Quite a few of the store fronts were bare without tenants. Many of the stores had employees standing at the front doors attempting to lure in customers. Was business this slow?
The mall itself is still unique as it isn’t easy to navigate from place to place without a map or instructions. Although it has been a number of years since I had visited, I can still recall an easy route from the bottom to the top floor food court.
All in all I still like the uniqueness of the mall itself. I hope that the businesses will come back and fill the mall once again.

This place is not my first choice when I need to do shopping at the mall. I came here with some family and friends the other day. We decided on Horton only because we haven’t been here in a long time.
When I arrived the memories came flooding in as to why I stopped coming here as much:
1) Downtown traffic can really suck. If you’ve never driven down to this mall, it can be confusing and there are one way streets all over the place.
2) Parking at this mall can be horrible at times. I’ve heard about people having difficulty with the parking management company.
3) The design of the mall, although interesting, is a pain to navigate.
and
4) There are vacancies in this mall (due to lack of business) likely because of reasons 1 through 3. Vacancies can be an annoyance because you may find a business you like and next thing you know they are no longer there.
The mall has areas that are aesthetically pleasing and some points with beautiful views of downtown. Another plus is you get 3 hours of parking with validation, after that it’s like $ 6.00 per hour or something like that. Just don’t lose your ticket or you may have to pay the max ($ 48 or something). With 3 hours you have plenty of time to walk and explore downtown.
Not a mall I would shop at regularly because the cons outweigh the pros.

I love this mall because it brings back memories when i was a kid. My dad used to work here and he would come home with all kinds of cool things from this mall — like the free gits they give out or just holiday toys and stuff. On the weekends he would take my Mom, sister and I here to walk around, and eat some funnel cake puff balls. Unfortunately the place its gone, i think its Ben and Jerry’s now.
I love that this mall hasnt been remodeled and they shouldnt remodel this place like what they do to other malls. Horton Plaza is unique and it keeps my childhood memories in place.

So macht das Shoppen Spaß! Schön gestaltetes Shopping Center, das über mehrere Ebenen verteilt fast das Flair eines kleinen Dorfes vermittelt und so zum entspannten Bummeln einlädt. Neben den bekannten Marken und Ketten, findet man aber auch kleinere lokale Geschäfte.
Hier kann man auch gut parken, um von hier aus die Stadt zu erkunden.

Habe nur eine Straße weit weg gewohnt. Super Einkaufs“zentrum”. Viele verschiedene Shops. Sogar ein Kino gibt es!
Der Foodcourt ist ebenfalls empfehlenswert!
Da kann man jeden Tag hin, ohne sich zu langweilen.

Eingentlich ein schönes Einkaufszentrum, nur ein wenig verwinkelt! Schwer sich zurecht zu finden. Durch die Architektur aber so vorgegeben. Schöné kleine oder auch mittelgroße Läden.
Der Food Court ist auch Empfehlenswert. Super große Auswahl!
Im Untergeschoss Natürlich ein Starbucks wo man auch schön sitzen kann.

Das bekannteste Einkaufszentrum in San Diego ist das Horton Plaza. Die Architektur macht es in einer besonderen Form einzigartig. Viele Etagen mit kleinen einzelnen Geschäften die von einander getrennt sind bilden das Hauptaugenmerkmal. Durch die Anlage führen Passagen und Übergänge, aber man hat nie das Gefühl in einem einfachen Kaufhaus zu stehen, sondern eher durch eine riesige Einkaufsstrasse zu bummeln. Die grossen Markenhersteller sind hier alle zu finden, unter anderem Boss, Levis, Nike uvm.
Neben den einzelnen Markenherstellern gibt es zudem auch noch Kaufhäuser wie Nordstrom oder Macys, die mit sehr preiswerten und ausgefallenen Produkten.
In den oberen Etagen finden Sie einen Food Court mit vielen verschiedenen Restaurants und Imbiss Ständen. Ob man nun chinesisch, koreanisch, italienisch, mexikanisch oder japanische Küche mag, für jeden Geschmack ist was dabei. Natürlich darf ein Mc Donalds nicht fehlen.
Wir haben uns aber für den Inder entschieden, denn indisch bekommt man selten als Fast Food angeboten. Im Untergeschoss ist noch ein einigermaßen preisgünstiges Internetcaffee.
Wir haben auch einmal darin geparkt, die Preise sind dort für San Diego am günstigsten.
