Business Owner

Richard has worked for over 25 years restoring and conserving furniture in the UK, Canda, Bermuda and the USA.

He qualified with London City and Guilds Certificates in Advanced Furniture Refinishing, Traditional Hand Polishing, Upholstery and Cabinet Making from City of Manchester College, England.

Richard’s credits are varied — he has competed work on furniture for both Sotheby’s and Christie’s, created distinctive tables on display in Fortnum & Mason in London and even completed a huge project to conserve a beautiful 46ft Chippendale Table complete with 46 chairs!

Signed up for Unilocal just to review this business. This guy/​these people are miracle workers. I have worked with wood, metal, and everything else under the sun as hobbies, and didn’t think there was any way the repair I brought Richard would be able to be done without leaving obvious signs of the original damage. They did phenomenal work, at a very reasonable price. I couldn’t be happier. Don’t hesitate to go see them if you have an heirloom that needs some attention! Thanks Richard!

I took six antique mahogany dining chairs to Richard to replace the wood frames for the seat inserts and to reupholster the new frames. Richard gave me two choices for the repair and two choices for the padding. I brought the upholstery. The reworked chairs are beautiful and comfortable. The workmanship is excellent. The price was fine. I will take more antiques to Richard. Jim G

Richard is a true craftsman in a world where craftsmen are harder and harder to find. He repaired two antique chairs for us — one was very badly damaged and by the time he was done, you couldn’t tell. He completed the work at a great price and we heartily recommend him! I opened the lid on my antique German oak hope chest (in the family since the early 1700’s) to find it had mold growing inside. Richard Hosker of Whyte Antiques gave me a VERY reasonable bid to clean and restore my beloved chest. He just returned it tonight and I am so happy with his work! The mold is gone. It smells like old wood again. Richard lovinly cleaned every inch of this piece 9 times before he was satisfied. Then he hand waxed the piece restoring the beatuiful finish of the wood. Not only that, but he showed me how to continue to care for this chest in the future. I can not say enough good things about Richard’s work — what he did for my family heirloom is incredible! Thank you!

We have recently finished an extensive remodel of our home. During the remodel we sent several pieces of our furniture to Whyte’s Antiques and Upholstery for reupholstering and refinishing.
We could not have been happier with the results. All pieces came back better than when they were new. He takes great joy in his work and the results are unmatched. He starts with the average and turns it into something truly exceptional. If you are looking for old world craftsmen who take great pride in their work look no farther. great job fixing some antique chairs
Richard did an excellent job of repairing two antique English dining chairs. He gave us two options, including the different prices and what he would do in each case. I’d definitely recommend him.

A great job at a fair price for the quality and expertise. The chair leg repair is nearly invisible and done in a way to ensure that it doesn’t break (easily) again. I liked working with Richard. He’s very thorough and knowledgeable.

Wow, I just called this gentleman to ask if he could repair one broken cross piece and glue another. He put me off by saying he had to see the chairs, couldn’t tell by my description what needed to be done (replacing the cross bar, glueing the joints, this seems common repair work on dining room chairs, no?). And then stated, without being asked, that it would be a charge of not $ 50.00 (don’t know where that idea came from) but $ 85 to $ 100 a chair. Very rude and obviously didn’t want my business. Use at your own risk!

Just got my rocking chair back. They did a great job! The cushions turned out great, the restoration of the chair itself turned out better than I expected.
Just remember to look of your furniture before you pick it up to make sure that it is exactly what you wanted.
Make sure if you are picking up your funiture that you bring the right tie-​downs, the genious that I am, I didn’t bring the right ones and ended up having to buy touch up stain for the bungee cord burns that ended up on the rocker.

If I could give this monkeys a negative star i would. They are dishonnest business people that dont deserve any help from the community. I had work done on a armour that my grandma left me its ruin and they dont care.
