Specialties

The yacht ‘America’ specializes in public & private whale watching trips.

For the 200910 season Dennis Conner’s yacht America has teamed with the Maritime Museum for daily sails to the whale grounds. This Premium trip now has 6 value components:

— A 4 hour ocean sail on 139 Ft America

— Amazing Whale & Dolphin opportunities with narration by our very own Pirate Al Sorkin

— Access to the nautical history of the Maritime Museum of San Diego, a $ 14 value

— A whale sighting guarantee: If you don’t see a whale you can join us free of charge any other day same season.

— A No Seasickness Guarantee. That’s right! If you do lose your lunch we will provide you a $ 40 gift certificate to The Fish Market. In 200809 we carried 4300 guests to the whale grounds. Only 10 guests were ill and only one guest asked for his Gift certificate. That is how stable and wonderful it is to sail on America.

— This is the Green environmental friendly way to see Mother Nature.

History

Established in 2003.

The business started in 2003 when Troy Sears purchased two of famous captain Dennis Conner’s America’s Cup race yachts. They started taking tourists sailing on San Diego Bay. The business was also home to the MTV show «Real World» in 2003 with 3 months filming of the actors working on the America’s Cup yachts with Troy. This helped spread the word very quickly. The race yachts are «Stars & Stripes» and «Abracadabra». They operate year round for private and public trips. In 2006 yacht ‘America’ was purchased from Key West and sailed through the Panama Canal to San Diego. The America is the $ 6,000,000 replica of the famous yacht that the worlds most expensive yacht race the America’s Cup is named after. That makes this yacht very famous. More importantly, she sails very well, is very stable and as such very few people ever get seasick on her which makes her perfect for the whale watching. In 200809 season of 4300 passengers only 10 people were sick. That is amazing!
