2000 Post

I don’t usually go out my way to write a long review. I am low maintenance and can live any where as long as I have a comfy couch and bed.
My experience at 2000 Post has been disappointing. I often think to myself what would I have done differently if I was the leasing office. In my opinion, the leasing office are trying to be as nice as possible, because they have no control over UDR corp. However, I still have to share how horrible it is to live here.
Let me try to highlight some of the problems that I see with 2000 Post. I moved here in Feb of 2015. When I was walking around, the furniture looked out of date, but the staff said everything will be refreshed and will look amazing. I thought wow this is awesome. In the 11 months I have lived here, we haven’t had pool for 9 months. This is horrible experience. I don’t understand why corporate doesn’t put pressure on the construction company.
The gym was unavailable for 6 months. I was very disappointed that I couldn’t use the gym that I saw when I was walking around. Leasing office offered gym memberships to other places. But I paid to be able to go downstairs. Not walk multiple blocks.
There has been multiple elevators out of order for over few months. The main elevator to the parking lot hadn’t worked for 3 months.
The worst part of my living experience has been the holidays. My house had a leak which corp jumped to fix immediately. But now that I have been home on the holidays, I can’t take the noise anymore. There is constant banging on my windows. My frames have all fell multiple times and my candle holders have fallen off. It is crazy to think that this is acceptable. I know they have to get this work done, but constant noise in my ears is not OK. I have a corner unit and yesterday they covered the majority of my windows with PLASTIC! I have no view. Do I want fresh air? Nope. Windows don’t open like they did before.
My rent got raised by $ 300 which is almost 10%. I expected them to treat existing residents better. Don’t raise the rent. Don’t raise the parking. Give me an incentive to not be upset about my living condition. Instead, there is constant banging, no pool and raised prices.
So to person who lives here after us, I hope enjoy the new pool, new walls, and new whatever they promised. But just know to us people who are living here now, it’s horrible.

Toured a few units, they all seemed over priced for the place and a little dirty. The playground that they showed us had a large hole smashed into the bottom of the slide.

Gunther is exceptional and very helpful. My friend moved in here a couple months ago and she loves it. I’m waiting until my lease is up and hopefully can lease an apartment here too. The whole building is being remodeled and it looks amazing. Gunther is such a nice person. The building is very safe and the apartments are spacious, modern and nicely kept.

I used to see reviewers like what I’m about to write as crazy people or whiners — but no, this is truly a total mess of a complex. Again, I highly recommend anyone viewing this sorts the Unilocal reviews by date to get the most recent 1 – 2 years in the building.
My rent was recently raised to $ 3300 base (for a tiny STUDIO) + $ 75 pet rent + $ 250 for parking (where break ins are common), that’s $ 3,625 for a tiny studio under constant construction, with unresolved maintenance issues (warped hardwood floors from their flooding through patio door, crappy pumping, constant garbage smell from my unit, and mice (as referenced by other tenants on Unilocal). Current market rate for my same studio on Craigslist is $ 2795 — but don’t be fooled, they’ll up that very quickly increase that as soon as your first year is up.
We’ve had 40+ fire alarms in the last 6 months, including at 2am and 4am in the morning, for no actual fires. Construction deadlines promised since my last review this summer, are now «indefinite» with no schedule progress on projects like the patios, pools, roofing, windows, and siding. Elevators have been down for 4 – 6 months. Now from the street you can see the scaffolding and construction mess, which is constant and unpredictable. During the rain earlier this month, the unfinished roofing leaked into many units, filling walls and ceilings with water. Garbage is constantly backed up.
The only highlights are the renovated gym and package locker system — which is probably what you’ll see on a tour as a new tenant.

Move here for college dorm life!
It’s like college here! I have called building patrol over three dozen times complaining about the neighbor’s music thumping through my wall. I asked them nicely multiple times before resorting to calling patrol and then contacting building management. They said they spoke to my crap neighbors multiple times but literally nothing changed. I wonder what they could have POSSIBLY said! I even decided to break my lease and move out because of the poor management. $ 3700 for a 625 sq ft apartment and THAT is what I have to deal with? No thanks. The only reason we moved into this place was because we have 2 pets and no one in SF allows them. If you have pets, be prepared to pay a pet deposit ON TOP OF the extra monthly fees. This place is a complete and utter rip off. STAY AWAY.

Writing my final review for this place as I successfully moved out from this place after living only 8 months.
Boy, so happy not hearing construction noise any more.
TL, DR: moved out because of ever-​going reconstruction; residents complain and leave; management does not do much to address; do not recommend.
Final note, mostly for those who consider this place as a new home:
1. I do recommend NOT TO DO SO until the renovation is completed (which has a tendency to extend far beyond what is communicated or expected). If an agent says it will be completed in 1 – 2 months — fly away (that is most likely inaccurate information).
2. Photos on Unilocal (those provided by business owner) very nicely hide the parts which are still under construction. Try to find the pool, planned to be open in end on June, on pictures with new walls (named ‘prison walls’ by one of the residents)
3. Most active tenants moved out after months of debating with the local and corporate management. Some of those received «friendly» suggestion to calm down and stop «acting aggressively» or move out
4. Not rent controlled.
5. Not very safe. A number of trespassing events occurred recently (number increased with the renovation project), prompt open doors.
6. Quite decent customer facing team (unless the question comes to something related to the renovation).

When I moved to SF last year, my girlfriend and I found this spot as one of few pet-​friendly apartments available within our price range. We were quickly sold on the safety, convenience, and amenities. However, this shortly changed once construction started 2 months later, which we were not notified of prior to signing.
Pros:
–Convenient Location
–Maintenance Staff — Robert + Chris are fantastic! We almost stayed just due to Chris (who despite being overworked, is always friendly and attentive)
Cons:
–Price: 1 BR was $ 3K, but the numerous fees are what gets you. Garbage + Water flat rate is $ 140, parking is $ 250, Pet fee is $ 80. After dealing with these prices for year, we were rewarded with a 22% rent increase. At least they could buy us dinner first…
–Mice infestation (Mice infested our walls and woke us up each night to constant scratching in the drywall. Manager said that our dog was likely attracting them. However, once we caught 8 in 2 weeks, they finally agreed to treat our apartment)
–Dishonest Management: Construction was intrusive and not appropriately represented. Our porch was taken away for 7 months, and they provided us with only a $ 20 credit. Construction will not be finished before early 2016!
–Censorship: After numerous complaints about construction on the internal message board, UDR and Management took away our ability to communicate with one another. That was some Scott Walker/​Mao/​Leninist ish
Overall, I would not live here again or recommend to any friends. There are better options out there!

I chose to move in here after meeting Robert, one of the previous staff members. He was so friendly and kind that I made the mistake of not doing some research and checking for online reviews.
All of the staff here are very helpful and friendly, whenever I’ve had an issue they’ve been quick to address it. And the gym is very nice. However, as everyone else has mentioned, the renovation is continually pushed back. I came to visit the building in July and was assured the pool for example would be completed by the end of summer. It’s now almost November and it hasn’t been completed.
Additionally, for a luxury apartment, some of the materials are pretty cheap. The kitchen and bathroom counters are made of a very light plastic that absorbs anything that spills on it, such as berries, or even oil. If you’re not quick to clean it in under a minute you wind up with a stain. This makes cooking very difficult, and I’m assuming that despite our best efforts to clean as we cook we’ll still end up paying for a new countertop. I just hope that isn’t the building owner’s intention.
Bottom line– I love the location, and appreciate the people here. But I wouldn’t recommend to a friend that they move here.

My girlfriend and I lived in this complex for about two years, and in that time the experience went from very overpriced but nice to immensely overpriced and horrific. New tenants should be aware that these problems are ongoing and might as well be permanent at this point.
Our worst experience was definitely when the apartment was burglarized. The management had the temerity to blame us for being robbed, then surreptitiously retrofitted our door’s locking mechanism after the fact. They had previously tried to charge tenants a fee to have a working lock, and I guess our unit was one of many that was never fixed. As incredible as it sounds, our property was stolen and our personal lives were violated because they tried to shake down a prior tenant for cash to fix his door, then knowingly left him and future tenants vulnerable when no payment was made. For reference, the fix took about 30 seconds and apparently cost something like $ 15.
I do not exaggerate when I say that the police who responded to the incident were an order of magnitude more helpful than the management. Indeed, they let us know that break-​ins on the property are commonplace – something I wish we had known before moving in! Be on the lookout for opportunistic vagrants wandering the halls and using the laundry rooms in certain parts of the building. Though this has always been an issue, the situation deteriorated rapidly when the construction started. You should definitely pay extra for «replacement value» when you pick up renter’s insurance, otherwise you will get essentially nothing when your belongings are taken.
Let’s get into the construction. The behemoth, apparently endless project denied us access to the key selling points of the complex, namely, its gym and pool area. We couldn’t even find the front desk for a period of time. The place looked awful when we left, and yes, the fire alarm disruptions were as bad as people describe. The changes to the interior have somehow succeeded in making the place look worse – they chose some very kitschy accents and the most awful looking flooring (presumably to hide stains for the next 3 decades until they renovate again).
When your lease ends you will be hit with the predictable 25% rent hike. I would like to emphasize that this should not be normal, even if it is considered to be so. I suggest whole-​heartedly that you rent from an individual human being rather than a complex if you can find such an arrangement. They may experience sympathy and bouts of kindness, even, while you can rest assured that a massive complex such as this one will squeeze you for every possible cent.
When it comes time to renew your lease, they will offer you some improbable month-​to-​month rate in the many, many thousands of dollars if you happen to need another month or two at the location. You should NEVER sign on to such a rate. I suggest researching landlord-​tenant law and learning your rights. Call up a local attorney if you need help. San Francisco law favors tenants and you may be able to get a payout from the complex to close out your stay rather than the other way around. You should not feel a single iota of guilt if it comes to that.
The complex will also try to steal much of your (unnecessarily massive) deposit when you leave. They will charge for cleaning that may or may not actually happen, as well as any possible repair they can hope to justify. This is basically bonus money for them – again, make sure you know your rights and don’t give up any portion of your deposit without a fight!
It really boggles the mind to consider how much money this place must be making. Between the inordinate rent, cuts to staffing, lax security (I saw a guard twice in two years), and incredibly low rate they likely pay on property tax (thanks, Prop 13!), they are likely raking in many hundreds of thousands in pure, blissful profit every month. Don’t be their profit center – avoid entering into a «relationship» with 2000 Post if you can! Shop around a bit and I’m sure you will at least settle on someplace that isn’t under construction.
In the interest of full disclosure, here is an exhaustive list of the positives: the fixtures in our unit were nice, we had few problems with the minor repairs we requested, and our neighbors were all fine.

I agree with whats been said. The building used to be great but we’ve had renovations for over 6 months with no rent discount. Fair enough but I got my renewal notice and my rent went from $ 3100 to $ 3600 a month or over $ 10,000 per month if I want to go month to month. Seems like a strong arm tactic to get me to sign a one year lease. Its all valid since its not rent controlled its just no longer worth it in my opinion.
When the renovation gets finished (Id say we’d be lucky to have it done by the end of the year) it might be worth it again if the prices don’t keep going up. I wouldn’t recommend it, there are better deals to be had in the city.

Adding to the voices echoed here which is that the community I moved into is not the one it is now and I would not recommend the building to new residents until renovations are completed.
While I appreciate that San Francisco is an expensive market the current cost /​quality divide is far off chart and despite the constant disruptions to services and quality of living rent has continued to rise heavily at this community. The facilities I paid for on moving in initially were worth the price tag — gardens, pool, gym, BBQ area, heavily manned lobby, exercise classes and regular security patrols have all been unavailable or reduced for most of 2015. We were not warned of this when renewing our lease at the end of 2014 and I feel as though the company has misrepresented the facilities available in that lease document. We debated heavily whether we would renew our lease this year and did so only because our stay in SF is temporary. Our 2015 lease renewal included another hefty rent increase and required all residents to sign a waiver regarding our rights vis a vis the renovations.
Many of the renovations currently underway do not seem to have been necessary, they have been months in duration and constantly disruptive. Building activity has disrupted all sorts of environmental factors sound, noise, smell, heat, cleanliness, view. This is no longer a fit environment for a person who works at home for any portion of the week and I have had to cancel numerous business calls because I was unable to conduct them with the noise pollution at 2000 Post. Construction occurs early in the morning and late at night, public holidays and weekends — despite this delays are consistent and baffling. Twice now I have travelled for a month and come back to no noticeable changes.
Most alarming has been the basic disregard for health and safety. The building renovations have disrupted fire doors and fire alarms many times in 2015. Basic security measures have not been taken and transients have been found wandering in the community more than once. Disabled access has been limited or missing from parts of the community with no regard for residents with limited access. Attempts to resolve these matters with building and UDR management have been entirely ineffective. Most residents have contacted internal community management, UDR customer service and UDR management. Escalations are common and ignored.
A comment on staffing — Like many residents I cannot speak highly enough of Chris the maintenance staffer and Gunther in the leasing office has always been a delight to me. I feel that they are being let down by UDR as much as the residents. Community management seems to be a large part of the problem here — the previous community manager was heavily involved with residents and created a warm and welcoming environment. Current community management seems uninterested in resolving major issues, avoids or antagonizes residents and makes no attempt to acknowledge legitimate complaints. Multiple of my visitors have been treated rudely and commented on the lack of professionalism displayed. They are doing UDR a disservice and causing PR problems, negative reviews on Unilocal can only be the beginning.
To end on a more positive note once the gym was (finally) available again it has been a vast improvement with modern airy facilities and all new exercise equipment. I can only hope that the end result of the renovations will be a positive gain for future residents.

The building constantly has maintenance issues, lack of security, dirty/​smelly common areas. Management lacks a sense of urgency, and is often unresponsive.
Over the past 12 months, to name a few items:.
SECURITY —
**Although rents can be over a $ 4,000 premium for concierge services, packages can be stolen from various entrances in the building due to lack of concierge, security, or recording cameras.
MAINTENANCE —
**Overwhelming chemical smells fill the building with no prior notice. The smells are so strong that it seems unsafe to sleep in the apartment
**Leaky bathroom sinks take multiple visits to fix, and in the meantime can flood entire bathrooms and damage personal property.
**The building installed «new» windows that leave the apartments scorching hot. And some were installed in a questionable fashion with cracked glass. See attached photo.
The deterioration of 2000 Post is a shame.

5 star goes to Chris. He is genuinely great. Who is always lively, happy & gets the work done pronto. UDR needs to promote him & hire more people like him to run the show. It’s very inhospitable at the moment. Always short staffed & priority is only given to new tenants. Be ready to waste time if your down at the front office.
Cleanliness — poor, flies every where. Dust from the never ending construction just get piled on & on. No sign of pest control in the building at all. The poorly lite hallways are disturbing & the parking garage reeks of urine almost every other day.
Safety — two bikes got stolen from the garage the other day. One was mine. Thanks to the security guards they hired. They are helping reduce unemployment. They have brand new fabs for the doors but the irony is — the doors don’t close.
Value for money — Terrible. If the front office was more hospitable id consider a 2 star. It’s a shit show here. Can’t even sleep beyond 7:30 am on weekends due to construction. We were told that construction would be over by July … Looks like they are half way through at the moment & plans to complete the entire renovation by early next year.
There are great apartments on filmore. Just a block away which has better reviews, amenities & is for sure a lot more frugal.

Absolutely over-​priced. Gunther the person who showed us the apt was patronizing to a fault. Unfortunately for him we have lived in the city and we know what we can get in $ 4500. I can’t believe he would try to sell us a place for that much given that it was going to be covered in scaffolding and still have a freaking attitude about it! He was insufferable, rude and condescending– everything you should not be if you’re in sales. Do not stay at these apts; there is much more out there to choose from.

My fiancé has lived here for 3 years and we had wanted to move in here together but in the last year it has become inhospitable. Although I should say two staff members, Chris and Gunther, do a great job with minimal resources but there’s too many issues for them to handle alone.
Some of the worst experiences we’ve had:
Cleanliness:
The elevators and stairwells almost always smell of wet dog, there’s regular ‘accidents’ with pets and they have gone unattended to for days. Outside the building there is a persistent fly problem (
) and in the stairwell they have to keep vermin traps (
).
The Pool:
The pool has been out of service since April 2015. We were originally told the renovated pool would reopen at the end of July. Since then the date has been pushed back several times, twice within 3 days of its then scheduled reopening. The pool remains closed and is now scheduled to reopen at the end of September.
Disgruntled community:
The huge amount of noise from the ongoing construction projects, heavily reduced amenity access, trash problems and many other small things have made this place much worse to live and almost everyone you meet in the corridors or elevators is disgruntled.
Unfortunately, it seems the new management has set the focus against residents.

I originally wrote a review for Chris (in charge of maintenance) and gave him 5 stars. I still stand by the 5 stars for Chris as he was amazing and always went above and beyond to help. However, everything except for Chris is a 1 star.
First of all, the building has been under construction since we moved in and management did essentially nothing to accommodate us. We were hugely inconvenienced and lost access to all amenities, but were still forced to pay full rent even though we no longer had pool access, gym access, limited elevator access, etc.
Second, we had terrible sewage issues. At one point, our toilet exploded sewage water all over our bathroom and into our living room and kitchen. While they cleaned it up at the time, we were charged for and exorbitant amount for carpet repairs and heavy carpet cleaning upon moveout! Not only that, but we were charged a ridiculous amount in general upon moveout to have our apartment repainted and cleaned, even though the apartment was left in good condition and had nothing more than normal wear and tear.
Overall, our experience at 2000 Post was horrible. We were taken advantage of by the management and were charged way too much for what we got. They make it very difficult to move out as they charge a ton of money and make it difficult for future landlords to contact. DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!

Note: This is an honest review of the overall experience of living at the Apartment Complex 2000 Post Street Luxury Apartments, San Francisco.
My rating is for the full experience of living there, and is not influenced by UDR who promised to give bonuses to staff who persuaded residents to give them 5-​Star Reviews, which due to the generosity of residents often gave UDR the chance to gain completely undeserved praise, which was in fact aimed at their overworked maintenance and cleaning staff.
I’m simply stunned at some of the positive reviews. Dog treats from the concierge, smiles from the management staff, and a cute accent from Gunther do not mitigate the one-​star atrocity that is 2000 Post. If it were advertised and priced as a modest apartment complex it might just be defensible, but when it claims to be up there with other San Francisco «luxury» complexes it’s an absolutely appalling slum.
2000 Post Luxury Apartment Homes must be amongst the dirtiest, smelliest, noisiest, unsafe, unsecured, over-​priced and sub-​standard properties in all of the Bay Area.
Approximately 70% of the amenities listed by the building management are simply not true and every photo is a heavily retouched fake from over a decade ago.
Before the renovations began last November the interiors, carpeting, skirting, hallways and elevator areas were outdated and worn.
We now have been given new carpets but we have lost the pool, hot tub, yoga\workout area, sauna, half the deck and BBQ areas, and both landscaped courtyard now look like a 1980’s disaster movie. We’ll soon lose sunlight and air from our apartments as all the exterior sidings, windows, and roof are replaced.
There was a quick mention of «renovation» when we renewed our lease but UDR failed to mention every single month of our yearlong lease would have significant construction work where many of the amenities will be unusable.
I consider this fraudulent misrepresentation and bad faith practice of the worst kind.
As a result of the loss of amenities, the constant disruption, noise, dust, and noticeable shaking of the building, the management company UDR has kindly offered to raise our rents by only 10−20%.
You’ll notice that UDR deemed it necessary to upgrade the front office BEFORE fixing the broken fire doors, broken fire egress doors, uncertified fire extinguishers, missing smoke alarms, flooding laundry rooms, dangerous electrical outlets, unlocked equipment rooms, overflowing trash chutes, vermin infestations, constantly breaking elevators and exterior doors, unsecured parking and bike facilities, broken indoor and outdoor lighting, and general grunginess of everything not open to public view.
Cosmetic upgrades for the sales staff apparently have higher priority in this apartment complex than tenant safety.
Rents are high all over for luxury apartments, but for this pathetic level of even basic amenities, the rents at 2000 Post for what you get in return are obscene.
Do other «luxury» apartment dwellers pay a minimum of $ 40,000 per year to have poorly lit dead end hallways scattered with piles of garbage, containing drugs, razors, and festering soiled underwear from illegally squatting junkie sex-​workers who have wandered in through the non-​existent security.
2000 Post advertises itself to be an oasis of luxurious calm in a bustling city complete with laughably inaccurate claims of comfort and quiet and photos of non-​existent amenities on its website … it’s really a one-​star dilapidated mess\ building site run by incompetent on-​site staff and managed by the most cartoonish greedy scamming owners you could possibly imagine.
Absolutely abysmal.

I think the common thought amongst us residents is guarantee current rent price for at least one more year for all current residents… heres why.
The folks that work here are good, its just the rennovation and the top dollar cost we pay to live in this ‘luxury’. If UDR (owners of this facility) were compassionate & changed my rent to reflect what is currently going on at this place this is easily a 5 star review, but not only does it not, its above market value for the size of the places as is with amenities anyways… and talks of rent raising 10−20% has me figuring out where to go next once my lease is up to get on rent control.
Sure when all the works done it will be nice amenity wise, but whats scary about here is they can raise your rent from lease to lease an insane amount. If you are looking for stability in a place to live for more than a year this is not your place as it once was which a lot of the current residents have told me. If you are moving here and need a quick place to live that allows dogs and is in a great area, then get in soon before they really raise the rent to god knows what and spend a year hear while you figure it out.
Cant say too much though, the renting market in San Francisco is literally incomparable to anywhere in America, even by NYC standards, but this… this is laughable and driving some residents insane from the early morning jackhammering /​machines that go on all day. And this is a city where people work from home, my god I could not imagine having to work from home during the day in this nightmare.
To UDR, give the residents SOMETHING!!! You are ruining what was a way better life months ago and promising nothing for the current residents. If you gave us SOMETHING… ANYTHING…in help of rent that would at least go to show some gratitude for the stuff we are putting up with. Put yourself in our shoes, you will make the money on this place regardless of helping residents out for one more current year.

So here’s the real deal! There are some really amazing folks who work at 2000 post. They should and are rewarded by positive Unilocal reviews! That is one good thing to be said about UDR management!
This was once a lovely place to live w/​fantastic amenities and tenant service. It is absolutely NOT anymore!
If you have read any of the current honest reviews regarding demolition, they should be taken to heart! UDR has undergone MAJOR demolition and reconstruction of this building beginning last November 2014.
Management has not been transparent in their doings. They have held meetings with the tenants and blatantly lied about obtaining construction permits that did not exist! Blatant disregard of security, safety and ADA compliance remain an ongoing battle!
Disclosure regarding the significance of work being done was only shared after tremendous tenant concerns. So many folks have been up in arms over the constant noise of jack-​hammering and building construction! This complex has a long laundry list of renovations still to be completed; residing the building, re-​roofing, replacing the windows, completing construction of the gym, lobby, meeting room, pool, jacuzzi, courtyards, returning mailboxes to the lobby, (currently housed in the garage), updating fob entry system, and updating laundry rooms. All of this should be lovely when they’re actually finished. In the meantime the legality and efficacy of this work is very questionable, disruptive, noisy and unsafe!

I moved in to 2000 Post in the summer of 2014 and the leasing staff did not inform me that they had EXTENSIVE renovations plans beginning just a few months after I signed my lease.
The entire pool, gym, hot tub, sauna, lobby, etc… It’s all gone, and the management has done little to nothing to compensate the tenants for the loss of amenities. The management staff is very rude and is currently strong-​arming the tenants into submission.
Do not move into this place at all costs. The renovations will likely last at least one more year, but I wouldn’t know since they do not inform or disclose any of their plans.
