History

Established in 1929.

The 450 Sutter Garage opened alongside the 450 Sutter Building in October of 1929. The garage was built to ensure all guests that were visting their doctors, dentists and other tenants at the 450 Sutter Building would avoid the hassle of downtown parking by being able to valet park right at 450 Sutter. The Garage contines to be a vital part of the 450 Sutter Building’s operation and was recently named the busiest Garage in San Francisco by the President of a leading parking operators company.

DO NOT PARK YOUR CAR HERE! When we parked here we didn’t have any issues but when we were leaving there were mud prints on my car on the passenger side and the drivers side. When we brought this to the employees attention he asked if we’d like to file a report and we said yes. He calls his manager and has a sarcastic tone and says, «they want to file a report for a foot print» he smirked and didn’t even care that they slightly damaged our car. Granted the damaged weren’t super bad, the very fact that it wasn’t taken care of was an issue. In the end he wiped it off and we were on our way. But moral of the story is if you want you car taken car of don’t come here.

I cannot even give them 1 star. The staff were extremely rude and intimidating.
It was my first time parking my car at sutter garage, and when I picked up my car I asked ’ where is my car key’ the staff terribly looked at me and got in my car and started my engine and said ’ your car is working it means your key is inside’. WTH my only question was only where my car key is… I extremely disappointed with their customer service and I have to say that my emergency break wasn’t pulled back!!! Seriously they didn’t pull my emergency break!!!

First off there really isn’t much choice if you have to come here to 450 Sutter for a medical appointment when it come to parking. You just pretty much have to bend over and take it. It would cost me $ 24 just to park here for the few hours I needed and then on top of that $ 10 bucks more because I drive a SUV! $ 34 bucks!, and then on top of that $ 5.00 bucks to cross the Bay Bridge! What I really don’t like is this is Valet only and I really hate valet parking. I mean if I drove a shitty old car WTF who cares, but I let no one drive my SUV, and no I’m not saying what make and model it is! Just to make sure of these facts I called the parking lot management ahead and found out the facts of Valet only and the rates. So If you are stuck driving, you’ll be stuck parking here basically and just be ready to fork out the cash and hope these garage jockeys don’t screech you tires or go through your belongings or dent the car. Oh yeah, then you are suppose to tip these guys if they don’t damage you car.

We parked overnight from Friday to Saturday for $ 11. I don’t know if it’s even possible to beat that price! Our rental car stayed nice and safe!
I will say the signage is a little confusing. Posted are Sunday rates and I’m honestly not 100% sure what the rate is on other days but I can’t complain! Convenient and safe for $ 11?

Grumpy employees with no sense of customer service. Parked here a few times and have only encountered 1 friendly employee — a tall Caucasian man. $ 8 for parking less than 10 minutes.

I have been coming to this garage for a few years now when I need to see my dentist. I have always had a good experience w the employees and service at this location.
Most recently, Alan greeted me w a smile and asked how my day was. This garage is a little pricey but they provide excellent service and retrieve your car in a timely manner.

I park here a lot due to my doctors being in the building and around.
Today, twice. Second time, this happened:
One hour parking. Pay at 2.43pm, car is not delivered. waiting. waiting. 10 minutes go past. people arrive after me come and go. I ask «WTF?» no one does anything.
This senior before me gets a car delivered that is not his and is told it is his car and to take it. He refuses to take it.
End result:
Paid at 2.43pm
Got car at 3.05pm after complaining and asking 4 times WTF is my car???
Was late to pick up my 20 month old daughter from her daycare stuck in traffic.
No apology, no nothing.
What I was told when I was finally handed my car? «I was supposed to clock out at 3 lady, I had to search for your car to get it to you.» Can you believe that? ‘Cause clearly, it was my fault this overcharging «service» lost my car and took 20+ minutes to get it delivered. I will never use them again and will tell anyone I know to not use them either. I used to recommend them.
And yes, the seat was moved to the wrong spot, as always. windows were open, station was changed. I mean. what white glove valet service does that?

So they announce that you get 50% off if you leave before 6, what they fail to state is that you need to enter after 3 pm. Not only was that already bad enough, the person checking me out was extremely rude and unprofessional. Ended up paying $ 30 for bad service. STAY AWAY!

April 22nd, 2013 I went to the Dentist and parked my car @ 450 Sutter garage and I was in my appointment for 1 hour and ½ when I came to get my car my brief case had been stolen from one of their parking attendants. Nothing is worse than a thief. My fault for thinking that my brief cars would be safe. they are not talking any responsibility so now I have my attorney involved.
never leave any thing in your car when parking in any City Park owned garage.

After reading the reviews on here that this place is overpriced, I was scared to park here for the hour or two I’d be gone, but I had to make a decision. I had an interview at an office in the same building. I decided to take a chance and park here anyways. Whatever I had to pay, I’d pay.
I was greeted with a smile and the staff were quick to get me in and out. I believe I was gone for a little over an hour. My total was $ 8. That’s not overpriced to me…
It was easy to pay and my truck was in front of me within a minute.

I thought I had wandered into a regular parking garage when I realized they charge every 20 minutes!
And once you’re in, you’re in. Expect it to be a PITA to turn around or back out.
Lastly, I like to park my own car. It’s nice that they valet, but you’re paying for it!

While I was getting my wisdom teeth extracted, the valet guys were helping themselves to things in my car. I didn’t remember to bring the valet key this morning.
I came back to my car with my glove compartment unlocked. And the area between the front seats, everything was rearranged.
The passenger seat was moved much further back to what I had it set to.
As far as I know, nothing is missing. This is the one thing I hate about valet parking. People stealing (not in this case that I know of) and touching my shit when they’re not supposed to.
This garage is so pricey. That’s cuz you’re paying for valet guys to park your car and riffle/​steal your belongings.
Can you believe I had to tip these guys? URGH!
From now on, I am parking across the street at the Sutter/​Stockton garage.
I called the garage to inform them of this. The guy wanted our license plate number to see who parked our car. I didn’t feel comfortable giving him my license. He was of no help and said «without a license plate, I can’t talk to the guy.» So you can’t have an all staff meeting with them? Give everyone a heads up that their fellow colleague did this and there will be consequences?” Fucking bullshit. I bet they’re all in on it.

I never thought I’d be reviewing a parking garage. But this was a novel experience so I had to.
I’ve never parked my car in downtown SF overnight so this was new to me. I was staying in the Hotel des Arts which was just a block away. The hotel and the parking garage have an association so I was told to park in this garage. You get a discount for overnight parking.
The parking garage is valet ONLY. I am always iffy about using valet parking since I don’t really need to pay someone to drive and park my car. Additionally, the driver might steal something in my car! I did put my valuable (iPod, sunglasses, coin purse) in the trunk before I let my car be driven. I also should’ve left only the key to the car, and not my whole keychain in the ignition. Be sure to do this just in case something happens.
Anyway, it turned out to be a good experience. My car was safe in a shaded, protected garage. The workers were friendly and helpful. Nothing was stolen and got my car back easily.
I recommend this garage if you want to park overnight. 4 stars because it doesn’t look that nice inside and when I parked at first it seemed fishy and the attendant didn’t look friendly.

I’m a spoiled brat. I don’t’ like to walk around alot and I don’t like circling for parking. With that said, this garage is perfect for me if I don’t want to deal with the largeness of the Sutter Stockton Garage and my destination isn’t as close to the other garage where I normally park.
Valet service pretty much: pull in, give them the car, and they park it for you. Of course it’s not cheap, but as my father says, at this age, we can afford to treat ourselves. Though he probably didn’t mean for me to apply it to me, as I’m not as aged as he is.
Still it saved my feet, they were pleasant and quick, and I would gladly sacrifice a drink or two at a bar to have such a convenience when going downtown.

Pricey, but very accessible. None of this parking and circling going on… You pull in, trade the valet your keys for a ticket, and head on your way.
Damage: $ 7 for slightly over an hour, but the all-​day rates are $ 19 if you’re in by 11, out by 8, and for hotels they have a $ 30 all-​day pass where you have 24hr in and out access. The price is the only reason they’re 4 instead of 5 stars. Pretty good if you have an expense account and/​or don’t want to deal with the hassle of street parking.
By the way, the valets there are incredibly nice and take great care of your car– they always put the seat back in position, etc.
