Abacus Property Management

Main guy, Timothy is inconsiderate and obtuse,. He ordered some of my stuff in the garage to be thrown away after I received an okay on its placement. When confronted about it he rudely said it was my fault and refused to acknowledge the mistake made by their movers.

Two friends and I applied for a property Abacus was managing. There was a $ 30 fee for each of us for credit checks etc. There were other applicants who applied before us so Christine in their office told us they would wait to run our credit checks until they found out about the people before us. It turns out the other applicants didn’t work out so friendly Christine called and asked if we were still interested and if they should run our credit checks. We ultimately decided to look at other apartments so I told her no and then stopped by their office and picked up our applications and un-​cashed checks. They were super cool about it all and Christine was great at communicating with us from start to finish.

I’d like to counter the previous review about these people. I rented for about 1.5 years from them and they’ve always been friendly and helpful. If I ever have an issue they take care of it promptly, they have fixed a range for me, the lock when someone broke it and plumbing a couple times and it’s always been quick and easy to get them over to do it, unlike other landlords I’ve had.
I (usually) paid on time but occasionally lose a bill or procrastinated or something and they were always accomodating. If I was able to stay in the Bay I’d definitely still be living in the same place and if I moved I’d probably ask them what they had available because I trust them.
Bottom line: They’re good and efficient landlords. They’re friendly and attentive and when something goes wrong they bring in someone to fix it. I miss that place.

Just rented my first solo apartment in SF. Everything went smoothly and found out the day after I got the apartment. Not sure why all the bad reviews Tim was great and always answered all my questions.

Two employees of this company that we interacted with were rude and unprofessional in responding to reasonable questions about a property we were interested in leasing.
This company was marketing a townhouse. We went to see the property but were unsure how interested we were. The place is very old and not updated at all. It was cheap, though, so we decided to ask more questions about the place.
A woman at the Abacus office, Christine, was rude to my wife when she asked questions about the townhouse. Fine, whatever. Some people are just unfriendly. But then we went to see the place one last time. I mentioned my wife’s interaction on the phone to Tim, the man showing the house, and he became confrontational with us. Two makes a trend.
He basically said, rudely, that they wouldn’t answer our questions about the place unless we submitted an application with the fee. We «might not qualify» financially, so he didn’t want to waste his time. Well, we most certainly do, and wanted to ask questions before we paid the money with the application.
Based on the interaction with these two Abacus employees, we decided not to submit the application. The monthly rent for the place was pretty low, but I’d rather pay more somewhere else than deal with such utterly unprofessional people.
I hope your experience with this company will be better.
