Ace Automatic Garage Doors

We were able to schedule a service to repair our garage door promptly. The repairmen arrived on time. They were very friendly, professional, and knowledgeable and completed the work in the time promised. They had the necessary supplies already on-​hand. The work was high-​quality (broken spring repair), and the price was fair.

Ace came to my place and replaced a broken counterbalance spring. They were prompt, efficient, cordial. They also went a bit above and beyond – greasing the wheels, tightening all the nuts. Recommended.

Just had 6 new garage doors installed. They did an excellent job. I’d especially like to recommend Carlos. He was very professional and made the whole process bearable. I really recommend this company.

There were some initial difficulties getting information on when the technician would arrive.
The service, with a living social coupon, was exactly what I expected. The technician was thorough and courteous.

I’ve been a long time customer of Ace, over 10 years, and I can’t say enough great things about them. Coco is very knowledgeable and courteous. He never pushes you to get a product you don’t need… in fact, there are many times he will try to save his customers money. For example, I had a problem with my door not remaining shut. I told Coco over the phone and instead of sending someone out and charging me for a service call, he told me to double check a few minor things… and voila, that was the solution! A similar situation happened with my neighbor, and he helped her over the phone free of charge. Usually, whenever something happens with my house or car, other places try everything to charge you as much as they can even for the most simplest tasks. I’ve referred all my friends and family that need services on their garage doors and gates to Ace.

Our garage door failed one morning and we were stuck with our car inside! I called Ace and Miguel, the manager, understood the problem immediately and dispatched two smart, knowledgeable men within two hours of my calling. 45 minutes later, they had replaced the large spring and a cable that had broken. The garage door works like new now. The two men, Giovanni and Carlos, were polite and worked efficiently. The price was totally reasonable. I would not hesitate to call Ace again if I need garage door service.

Went to these guys (Miguel) for an extra door opener (clicker). He was professional, friendly, and informative on the phone. After calling around, he had the best price and seemed to be the most customer-​oriented.
When I got there, it was the same thing — he even interrupted his lunch to help me out. He walked me through how to pair the new clicker with my opener in a patient and informative manner. So far, so good.
When I got home, it wasn’t working. When I looked at the instructions, it looked like I might have the wrong remote (or dead battery?), so I called. When I read the model # of the motor to him, he said it was older than the old clicker indicated, and that the clicker he sold me wouldn’t work. Before I could ask if he had the model I needed, he asked my address, and said that he had a crew nearby — they’d come to me. I said «don’t you normally charge for in-​home service?» He said yes, but that since he just sold me this and they were nearby, he’d waive the charge.
His crew showed up with a new remote, paired it seconds, and I was good to go. He even thought to ask how many remotes I had (I guess if you exceed 8, it bumps off the first one) — he wanted to make sure I was all set, and I was.

We called our home warrantee company, AHS, and the Ace garage door guy came over right away. He was kind, friendly, honest and even helped my husband plan out how to install an electric garage door opener in the future. He didn’t try to sell us anything and was very thorough. These negative reviews are ridiculous. Gang signs? I didn’t know «gang» was a written language. Come on. This place was great, very professional.

I am not sure as to why the reviews are negative. I have dealt with Coco for over 15 years. I am a property manager for several large properties downtown and am very content with his work, ethics and his timely response.
He is available ²⁴⁄₇ for service calls, emergency services and we also have a long standing maintenance contract with Ace. He is always straight forward with his information. He never tries to «sell» a more expensive product for the sake of making a sale.

Forgot to add In my original post that the guy they sent was also a conn artist cause he tried to give me his number saying that the next time we need garage door service to call his cell phone directly and he’ll give me a better deal than calling the business number.

Ace Garage guys came because they were assigned by American Home Shield home warranty where I filed a claim for broken tension spring. Turns out that AHS don’t cover the spring, which they failed to tell me when i filed the claim and tried to sting me for $ 60 co-​payment.
Anyway, i asked these guys how much it would cost to fix the spring anyway, they told me that normally it would be $ 285, but since I was a AHS customer, they would knock off $ 30. I smelled a rat and said thank you but no, thank you.
Called the A&H Door and Access Company, got all fixed for $ 115 minus $ 20 Unilocal discount (
). Forget the Ace Garage guys.

The garage door had gone of the track and the track was then bent. Two young men showed up and they did fix the door. No problems there. The problem was that they scared me. I am an older, single woman living in the city and ok, maybe I am a little paranoid. But one of the technicians just kept staring at me. Then after they left, I noticed a gang symbol drawn in the dust on the door. I can’t say for sure that they did it. But it left me with an uncomfortable feeling.

I bought an extra clicker off this guy. He has a really great mustache– all fluffy and white. That’s what the stars are for. Bummer if he doesn’t do a good job– I really felt that a cookie duster like his was a good sign of competence. Another heuristic down the tubes. Alas.

I needed a garage door for a new garage.
The door needed to be 22 feet, 4 inches
The Good:
One star because Coco (the owner) did recommend highly a double steel door because our door is so large.
The OK:
One week after installation, one roller popped and sprayed ball bearings all over. This roller was replaced and it snapped off the first time the door was opened. They quickly replaced all rollers with heavy duty (larger) rollers. It would have been nice to have included heavy duty rollers in the first place, he did know the door was large and heavy.
The Bad:
Coco’s quote included the door, installation, one remote and a wooden section at the bottom (thin at one end and wide at the other to compensate for the incline of our alley). When the door arrived and was installed, he tried to add $ 165 for the wooden section. He seemed irritated that I had a copy of his written quote to show him that he had already included it in the price.
The Ugly:
When I ordered the garage door, Coco asked me if I wanted vents in the garage door. Since the garage has a second door and I didn’t like how the vents would look, I said, «No.»
We failed final inspection by the SF Building Inspection department because we had no vents in our door and they are required in San Francisco.
I told Coco we needed vents to pass inspection and he told me it would cost $ 280 to add 2 vents. He would not tell me how much it would have been if I had ordered them with the door. (Another company told me about $ 65 per vent). Coco was unapologetic about not having informed me that garage door vents were required in San Francisco, even though he admitted that he knew they were required. He said it was not his job to inform me.
My position was if vents were required (and he knew it), why ask me in the first place? Just include them.
No amount of pleading, pressure or cajoling would get Coco to admit to having done anything wrong or reducing the add-​on price to a smaller amount.
I finally had another company install two vents for $ 180.
More Ugly 5 Years Later:
If you read my review of Automatic Garage Door Company (whom I recommend), you will get the impression that the roller tracks should have been braced at the junction between vertical and the bend. They were not and it cost me angst and $ 1,600 to repair a failure that should have been prevented by a complete and professional job in the first place.
One star is probably too generous.
