History

Established in 2004.

with the inspiration of my mission statement, «Lead with excellence and serve with compassion», I created and opened my dental «dream» office, Advanced Dentistry and infused cutting edge equipment to provide the highest quality procedures and a uniquely designed friendly office that delivers effortless care combined with the highest dental standard. Utilizing the 3,000 sq. feet of office space, a 20-​year lease, and capital infusion of well over one million dollars, Advanced Dentistry became a state of the art dental office. We began with 5 operatories and 2 doctors, including myself. As of today, Advanced Dentistry has expanded to 7 operatories, with a team of 5 general dentists, 1 periodontist, 6 dental assistants, 4 front office staff, and an operations manager.

Hi, my name is Andrew Woelfle. I completed my undergraduate studies at Duke University and continued at UCLA, where I received my DDS degree in 1988. The following year I obtained an advanced degree in hospital dentistry at UCLA Medical Center. Subsequently, I was chosen to train with an exclusive maxillofacial prosthodontic dental team for two years in Santa Monica. In 1990, I relocated to San Francisco and continued my dentistry for fourteen years with a high end large dental group practice at the Embarcadero Center.

Outstanding surgical skills and service. Hadn’t had a cavity since I was a little kid so I was super nervous but Dr Pineda and his extremely professional and supportive staff made it flawlessly easy. During the filling of four cavities in one hour I was falling asleep I was so relaxed and hadn’t been given anything other than local anesthetic!
Great explanations from Dr Pineda who is calm, easy going and reassuring, lots of time spent weighing pros and cons and options and answering my questions. My husband comes here because after a lifetime of excruciating dental work after two jaw fractures and being wired shut for six months he was like a furious caged lion with a thorn in his paw with any more rough rummaging around in his mouth but he found this office where he doesn’t feel aggravated by procedures, they have such a careful and delicate approach.
To show you what the problem is they take mega magnified digital photos and xrays and send them to you: attached are a couple of my «before and after» pics… from four damaged repulsive crevices to pristine white fillings in a pain free hour. This office is a miracle! You’ll be in the best hands here. I’d recommend them in a heart beat.

Everyone hates going to the dentist. But this place makes you feel welcomed and not just another check and insurance premium. Will be returning for as long as I’m in the area. My dentist is friendly, open, willing to explain things and teach you about caring for your teeth and gums. Keep up the good work, guys.

I’ve always been afraid of the dentist. So when Dr. Castillo told me that I needed a deep cleaning, I was pretty nervous. When I arrived for my appointment, the front desk staff kept me smiling and completely at ease. But the best part, was how Pierre and Dr. Castillo kept me completely PAIN FREE. In fact, more than 24 hours later I am still completely PAIN FREE. Thanks Dr. Castillo… I am no longer afraid of the dentist.

When I first moved to San Francisco, I knew I had to find a good dentist. I was so happy and pleased to find Advanced Dentistry and work with Dr. William Castillo. I appreciate the amount of upgraded and digital equipment they have installed in a very well maintained office setting. What a great group of people to work with. I will continue to utilize Advanced Dentistry as long as I stay in San Francisco!

I’ve been avoiding the dentist like I avoid the Marina on Taco Tuesdays. Which is to say that I haven’t stepped foot in a dentist’s office in over five years. My last dental exam was by coercion, when my cousin (a fine dentist/​oral surgeon) bamboozled me into going to her office under the premise of going for a drive around her small town. She did a great job by the way, but I have since shrugged off going to see the dentist regularly.
Imagine my dismay when I woke up with a horrible pain in the left side of my mouth yesterday morning. I waited, hoping it would subside, but this morning I admitted defeat and made an appointment to see Dr. Castillo (who came highly recommended) about my pain. I called the office, and they agreed to see me within the hour. HOW GREAT IS THAT?
His dental assistant quickly got to work with a barrage of x-​rays. Then I got to meet Dr. Castillo. His gentle, reassuring manner is a relief. He asked questions, explained the reason behind every question, detailed every procedure and was calm, and withheld all judgment.
Yes, scraping plaque off my teeth was painful. My fault. Shame on me. But Dr. Castillo talked me through every aspect of the cleaning, warned me if it might hurt, and worked at a pace that made me comfortable.
The staff is great. They give you detailed explanation of each form, really work with you to find an appointment that works for you, and tell me what my insurance covers.
The pain isn’t gone (my fault for waiting so long to see the dentist). It’s not an easy fix, *sigh* but at least I know what the plan is for getting my teeth back in shape. My cleaning (with insurance) came out to less than $ 20. Amazing.
Go see these folks. They are awesome. You will not be disappointed.

I actually look forward to going to the dentist. Everyone is nice and professional and they make the whole experience as painless as possible. You can watch a DVD or listen to music while getting work done. They can also bring up X-​rays on the screen and you are able to compare if there has been any changes since your last X-​ray set.
You also get a flavor list when they clean your teeth and a goodie bag of toothpaste, floss and a toothbrush before you leave.
I started with Dr. Woelfe who is awesome, but as he has downsized his patient list I got transferred to Dr. Castillo who is also equally awesome. What I love about this place is if you do need something done, they’ll give you your options but they are never pushy or make you feel guilty for not having something done.
Making a reservation is painless and you get a reminder email to confirm.
You can call ahead to see if they take your insurance.

BEST dentist office EVER. Wouldn’t go anywhere else in San Francisco if someone paid me. Dr. Tiller was the most thorough, kind, genuine and cool. No dentist has spent that much time with me and had that good of bedside manner. Not only ALL that but ALL the front desk staff are AMAZINGLY nice in a NORMAL way and they have TOP NOTCH technology and charge the regular, expensive dental prices you expect anywhere else (I pay out of pocket). They are worth EVERY hard earned penny I have. I absolutely loved them and their office is clean, pristine and they are timely. Dr. Tiller is also a teacher at the school of dentistry in Pacific Heights so he works only a few days a week but I LOVED him. I look forward to saving up to get more work done! I’m sure the other dentists there are great as well. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Dr. Tiller is extremely professional, knowledgeable and thorough. He explains each step of the procedure so those of us fearful of the drill know what to expect — which, as it turns out, was the most pleasant experience I’ve ever had at a dentist. He’s honest in his assessments and doesn’t push for unnecessary work.
The facility is very nice, with all of the new technology that allows patients to see what the Dr. is referring to (small crack on the inside of a molar, for instance), and be very comfortable while he goes to work.
Great guy, nice office — very highly recommend.

Dr. Tiller rocks! It was my first dental visit in 5 years and I had selected this office due to its proximity to my office and referrals from co-​workers. Everyone at the front desk is amazingly nice. They saw me right on time and Dr. Tiller was so welcoming. He gave me a thorough exam and cleaning himself. Super nice guy and made me feel the most comfortable I ever have at the dentist.

Crooks, charlatans, how many other words can be used for this office and the dentists who work here? Obviously, they are attempting to screw the insurance companies by ordering unnecessary procedures on their unaware patients. Which is fine, I am not a fan of insurance companies, but I am especially not a fan of physicians who do not take the Hippocratic Oath seriously. After a rough and abrasive cleaning by the dental hygienist, I was told that I would need the following: three filling replacements, sealants on some of my teeth, a deep-​cleaning (for a very nasty gum infection) and a night guard. I told the dentist that I wasn’t sure why I would need a night guard since I have an overbite and have to consciously close my mouth. When I sleep, my mouth opens naturally. When I told him this, he went silent. Hmmmm.
I got a second opinion at another dentist. I was told that I had very healthy gums, no infections, no wear on my teeth to suggest grinding, and that my fillings were totally intact and would last for another few years. This other dentist saved me thousands of dollars.
I would warn any new patient to get a second opinion after their first visit here.

A friend referred me to Dr. Tiller. I generally hate seeing the dentist but can’t find anything bad to say this time around. Dr. Tiller was friendly, thorough, and knowledgeable. He’s the only dentist to offer up that my mouth is on the dry side and give me tips on how to not wake up with cotton mouth in the middle of the night. Niiiiice!
Apparently he’s also got a magic chair because I’m still not sure if I fell asleep while he was cleaning the teeth. When I stood up all the telltale signs that I was sleeping were there, but I’m still just not sure it’s possible.
Anyway, great stuff Dr. Tiller! My mouth is minty fresh. Ladies, come get it while its not hot.

I was an Andy Woelfle fan for many years. But recently things have really gone downhill. Bernadette (my FAVORITE hygenist of all time) and Izel are both gone now, and instead I get a new hygenist every time I go in. I don’t like the revolving door — having to acquaint a new hygenist with my teeth every 4 months isn’t my idea of long-​term good dental care.
Then the worst happened. I had a dental emergency over Memorial Day weekend, called the office, called the emergency number several times, and no one ever returned my call. This, after being a patient for 15 years! Wow! I was reduced to calling my GP for some pain meds for a lost crown and a broken tooth over the holiday weekend. Needless to say, I was really disappointed. I don’t feel like an old-​time client any more, I feel like a Visa card number.
I probably should have moved my dental patronage to the East Bay years ago. Now I have a good reason to do so. But I am sad to see a fine dental practice turn into just a so-​so place.

I’ve been going to Dr. Woelfle for 4 years now and never had a bad experience. I don’t dread going to the dentist at all.
I had a bad dentist in the past, he was even sued by patients. Dr. Woelfle managed to fix the damage that the last guy did and has greatly increased my self esteem when I smile. From regular cleanings to invisalign, I’m a new person. His staff are all so polite, they remember me from visit to visit, say hi to me by name and remember what’s going on in my life.
They are all knowledgeable and gentle. Dr. Woelfle couldn’t be cuter, which doesn’t hurt when trying to drown out the sound of the drill. He charges a fair price, and if there is anything I’ve learned with teeth, you get what you pay for. The facilities are nice and clean, very advanced. I drive a long distance to reach his offices, and wouldn’t dream of going somewhere closer. I recommend their services to anyone.

I’ve been going to Dr. Woefle for about 8 years and think he’s great. Bernadette and Iselle are also wonderful hygienists. As much as I truly hate going to the dentist, and I’ve had a lot of major dental work done over the years thanks to a bicycle accident, I know that they will take good care of me from a health and aesthetic standpoint.
The only issue I’ve had here is that in all of my years going to them for routine care, I’ve never once had a gum check-​up. When I requested a visit with the «gum guy» Dr. Lu, he found all kinds of evil things lurking, which led to a gum grafting and a root canal. I am a bit annoyed that there wasn’t more in the way of preventative service here. Also, wasn’t thrilled with Dr. Lu, who did a poor job of explaining the gum grafting procedure and did not return one of my phone calls. Won’t be going to him in the future.

The Dr., and his hygenists do a very good job. My mother is a dentist and I know what they are supposed to do to do. Having grown up with an office attached to my home, I get none of the possibly dreadful flashbacks of kids screaming and such.
The waiting area and chairs are comfortable, clean and techologically advanced. You can watch a movie in either part, and you get your choice of XM radio in the chair.
For the record, I’ve only had my teeth cleaned and x-​rayed, but they’ve done a fine job. A good cleaning has to hurt a little bit, my mom always said, and they definitely scrape off the bad stuff. But they are courteous and patient in trying to make you comfortable.

Dr. Woelfle is incredible. So gentle, so understanding of patients. I have never experienced any pain with him, and I love that he takes the time to explain everything in advance.
He respects your time, doesn’t keep you waiting.
And his staff — delightful. They are also talented and so sweet.

After a horrible experience with Dr. Pain (ie., Dr. Findlay), I found Dr. Woelfle and am so pleased. Dr. Pain had told me he HAD to replace all my previous fillings (12!) and when Dr. Woelfle heard, he said «pshaw,» only one needs to be replaced, and even that can wait a bit longer. I’ve been a faithful patient for the past six years and love to recommend him to my friends.
The offices are beautiful, with high-​tech equipment, relaxing, no-​stress.
If you’re looking for a caring, gentle, really nice dentist, try Dr. Woelfle.

I had bad luck with the first dentist I had when I moved here (They chipped my tooth!), so I went to my s.o.‘s dentist to give it a try. I am so far happy with the results.
Everything here is modern. The design of the office is bright and cheery. They have all the latest equipment. You can listen to satellite radio while they work, though usually I chat with the hygienists. They’re so friendly. Dr. Woelfle is a bit more serious, but still nice.
The goodie bags are pretty nice here as well. I am still not used to them because I never had a dentist who did that since i was a kid.
Another plus is that they’re open early, so you can go for an appointment and not have to miss work.

«MY dentist.» Dr. Woelfle has done a great job of helping me care for my teeth since I was a student.
I’m sorry about the guy who left the first review which was negative. I guess not everyone will have a good experience, but I don’t have problems with my teeth so things always go smoothly for me. And I’ve been going to him for 10 years and counting.
His office is high-​tech! You get your own flat-​screen monitor for watching DVDs or listen to music while getting work done.
He once brought out this tiny camera that was able to take a digital picture of one of my back molars. He displayed the image on the flat-​screen monitor so we could talk about it. Very cool!
The staff is very accommodating, including Angel in accounting who was very patient with me last year as we sorted out issues with my dental insurance company.
Once I was babysitting my niece on the same afternoon that I had a dental appointment. I brought my niece with me and everyone was so nice about it. They let me set up my laptop so she could play her games while I was getting my teeth cleaned. That was years ago, but since then, every time I go to Dr. Woelfle’s, the staff asks about her. When I get my little to-​go bag full of sample dental hygiene products at the end of my visit, they always include a couple of Disney toothbrushes and a toy for my niece.
Part of me didn’t want to write this review because when I recommend Dr. Woelfle to people — and I have sent a couple of friends to see him — I get $ 25 off my next visit. If you go, please mention Wella sent you so they can note it on my file and I can get my discount, ha ha! Thanks!
