If you are looking for a caring and understanding doctor, Dr. Fu is not the one for you. As a patient dealing with the frustration and stress of losing their eye site, Dr. Fu is not sympathetic at all. He expects his patients to be able to deal with their emotions appropriately (not show frustration) and if their emotions were not up to Dr. Fu’s expectations, then he does not want to see them until their emotions are controlled. That is absolutely ridiculous! As a doctor caring for a patient, he should fully understand and sympathize with the patients situation and state of mind.

My wife just described her meeting with Dr Fu today and I am appalled at how she was treated by him. Who does he think he is to speak to my wife is such a disrespectful unprofessional manner? My wife might not be as educated as he is but to speak to her like he was scolding a 5 year old is unfathomable. His office called HER to come for this appointment, she didn’t call him. he questioned her ability to take care of her diabetes and kept telling her «I don’t have time for this» and «why are you smiling» He didn’t even give her a chance to explain herself. She tests her blood no fewer than 6 – 8 times a day. Her english is not fluent and she does not read english but takes very good care of her diabetes but he wouldn’t even give her the benefit of the doubt.
In all my or her years of working with Doctors, Dr FU is by far the most disrespectful and nasty person she has ever encountered. he is an embarrassment to all of the other professionals in his field. My wife is one of the most liked and generous and friendly people a person could even know and you treated her like hell and sent her home crying.

Wow– such disparity in reviews. I was referred to Dr. Fu by my opthamologist for another opinion on a condition I have. I come from a family of physicians and used to manage a surgical practice for many years, so I feel like I have a little insider info. I thought he was thorough, clearly knowledgable, took his time with me and was very reassuring. I would refer him to anyone in a heartbeat. He is now my retina specialist.

At first, I was impressed with Dr. Fu’s care and competencies but after my last appointment (and I do mean LAST) I too was shocked by his lack of professional courtesy and unwillingness to respond to the most basic of requests. He probably is technically very capable and able to mimic compassion when unthreatened, but he is not a good match for assertive patients who want to partner with there health care providers and take responsibility for their health.

He is a nice guy with an upbeat attitude, and obviously enjoys his job. He is more of an academic than most doctors I’ve seen, and was thrilled with the idea of forwarding my case to researchers.
He listened when I spoke, and I had the feeling that I was being treated by an expert.

Dr. Fu is a careful and compassionate ophthalmologist with a great sense of humor. Not to mention that he is up on the latest techniques and research. He also has an office in Corte Madera, CA
