While EyeCare Associates of SF was formed in 1995, its founder and CEO, Dr. Samuel Gelbart has been in practice in the same locations in San Francisco since 1982. Dr. Gelbart is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCSF. Dr. Barry Kerman has been associated with the practice since 2000. Dr. Kerman is a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at UCLA.

Dr. Kerman is an expert in all aspects of laser surgery for diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, and prevention of retinal detachment. Dr. Kerman performs «clear-​cornea» cataract surgery, enhancing patient comfort and speeding visual recovery.

Dr. Kerman’s current professional interests include cataract surgery, especially with an aim toward total visual rehabilitation by use of multifocal and astigmatism correcting intraocular lens implants, laser refractive surgery including LASIK, laser surgery for glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and prevention of retinal detachment, and medical glaucoma management.
