This is your typical airport store — everything you really need for a comfy flight at high markup prices. Bay Reader has a good assortment of popular books and a nice magazine rack with all the titles you want for your flight. Small toiletries, toys to occupy the kids, and San Francisco tourist merch round out the offerings. You can buy junk like shot glasses with the Golden Gate bridge painted on them or pretty cool gifts for the folks back home like bags of local Ghirardelli chocolates or fresh bread from Boudin. Of note: the sodas were super cold in the cooler which makes me a happy camper. Nothing is worse than forking over $ 5 for a lukewarm bottle of Coke Zero.

Bay reader is one of the best options to pick up a quick snack when you’re trapped in SFO. Unlike many of the larger chains they stock a more than reasonable assortment of less mainstream and healthier alternatives to your typical mass market snacks, including several interesting local energy drinks I’ve never encountered outside of Northern California.

This is where the all important sparkling water comes from when I am forced to fly out of terminal 1 at SFO. Service is generally friendly, though sometimes the line isn’t managed very well.
Other than my precious, precious morning beverage of choice, Bay Reader has your usual airport gift shop crap. Candy, chips, magazines, best selling paperbacks, souvenirs.
Terminal 1 in the am is usually a crowded mess with massive lineups at all of the to-​go food vendors, so you’re definitely best grabbing your water and maybe a small snack here & relying on the airline or your layover location for «real» food.

Remember, this is the last of a few stores to get your souvenirs, magazines, t-​shirts, whatevers before you board the plane. When I was walking through the airport I wondered if items on this side, the traveling side would be more expensive. They are! Check out the travel pillows, increases in value as you walk the airport. So this gift store has got a ton of items, decent key chains not just the crappy plastic with a silly photo of San Fran inside. All kinds of jeweled key chains, over priced t-​shirts, magazines galore, candies, drinks, condoms, etc, etc. Speaking of magazines if you look at the spinning magazine racks one can find some interesting Food & computer DIY mags for less than $ 7 dollars. I do not agree with the other reviewer about the staff. The store was over staffed with about three employees, two were cleaning up the store and folding shirts while one was at the counter. The store was not torn apart and the work they were doing could have been done later. Flights were delayed and the store had more customer traffic, more standing in line, so many that a line formed around the gift shop. The cashier calls to his coworkers to open up another line and the ladies exchange verbiage to one another and keep on folding shirts. WTF? When one of them finally feels like it, she comes over and opens a line. Five customers were taken care of in the time it took for this lady to finally come over. Meanwhile this guy cashier is sweating because he’s trying to manage the line. That’s not helpful staff. 1 out of 3 are bad odds.

Had just spent 5 days in san francisco and had not bought any gifts.
Mostly needed sourdough bread and magnets. This place had both as well as a few items I purchased but will probably never give out as gifts. Helpful staff.
