Blazing Saddles Bike Rentals & Tours

They are really rude to customers. The 24 hours drop off is fake word. When you return the bike after sunset, nobody will answer you call. You have to take the bike to your hotel. When you return the bike tomorrow, they will yell to you and rude to you. They will say all is you fault. Actually they only tell me I need make phone call when I return the bike but nobody will answer your phone call when you call them. Trust me! They are so rude.

Saw a groupon deal for two rental bikes (24hour use) for only $ 36! Everywhere else they were charging $ 32 for each bike (minimum). Staff are super friendly and want to help you anyway they can. Bikes were a bit squeaky but worked fine with gears and all. They offer a helmet to use as well as a lock so you can have a bite to eat somewhere and not have to worry about your bike being stolen. Fun experience!

Let me start by saying that I don’t know if this is the exact location we rented from, but it is this company and we rented from the shop right near Fisherman’s Wharf.
I’d give this place 0 stars if I could. The staff were rude beyond belief, and there was a problem with the bike itself. The girl who helped us the majority of the time was ridiculous, and there is NO WAY she should ever be hired in a customer service job. From the beginning, she made sarcastic remarks to both my boyfriend and me. I didn’t catch her name, but the top half of her hair was blonde and the bottom part dark blue. Before we even got to the bikes, she rudely responded to my questions about pricing making it seem like I couldn’t count, made a sarcastic remark to my boyfriend when he mentioned a store he liked and said «Um yeah, I live here. I obviously know that place,» and then when she randomly handed us unwanted ferry tickets and I asked a question about it, she asked me «Did you even watch the video?» (The one she put on while I was still filling out the paperwork she was rushing me to fill out).
The first part of our ride started decently, besides the fact that they didn’t really explain the rules of the road to us or where the bike lanes were. They also didn’t explain the gears. Sure, some people are experienced bikers, but others (like me) could’ve used a little refresher on how to use them when it came to big hills (of which there were many on the way to the Golden Gate Bridge). Also, about 10 minutes in I realized that my seat was too low, even though I had had the guy at the shop raise it for me before we left. I raised it back up, but 5 minutes later it was back down. The seat also moved side to side as I pedalled, making it extremely uncomfortable. Both of us tried to mess with the seat, but it didn’t work. We didn’t have enough time to go all the way back to the shop, so I decided to ride through it. But it definitely made our day less enjoyable.
When we returned to the shop at the end of the day, I told the guy who took our bikes that there was something wrong with my seat because it wouldn’t stay up. He looked at it for a moment and then said «Oh, it looks like this was loose. You just had to move this piece here.» Then he looked to my boyfriend and said «Why didn’t you help her with this?» Yeah, because it’s obviously our fault that you don’t maintain your bikes.
WOW. Just wow. All I could do was walk away. DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. There are many others in this city, and I doubt they could be anywhere near as horrible.

My husband rented a bike here one day and enjoyed it a lot so we came back together the following day and rented a tandem. It was a really fun experience. The people who work there are friendly and helpful. They play a short video showing you a suggested route and they also give you ferry tickets (which you have to pay for) to get back. It’s a little pricey, but I think that’s to be expected. If you «check-​in» on your Unilocal app on your phone, you can get 20% off your day rate! I thought that was a pretty cool deal. The bike itself was good in terms of good air pressure in tires, and it came with a space to strap on a backpack, along with a lock. The seat, unfortunately, was super uncomfortable. We had a really fun day out on the bikes so I do recommend this activity if you want to be active and see what’s on the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge! We loved exploring the cute little towns over there.

Staff were great and helpful! I love the views! We rode from Fishermans Wharf over Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito. Walked up couple steep hills but overall a great ride. I defiantly want to do it again.
The bikes have been over used and rattle, are not solid, but definitely work got us from point A to point B.
Not being a regular cyclist my rear was sore. Would of preferred a more cushion seat.
If the bike had softer seat and was solid I’d give 5 stars.

If you are thinking about biking the Golden Gate Bridge, do it. It’s an experience you won’t forget and a great way to explore the city.
Jennifer C and I arrived ready to take on the bridge. What we didn’t know, was that it was quite a path and journey just to get to the bridge! Luckily, the ride wasn’t too difficult. The route is actually suited for beginners, but you must be brave and you have to take caution.
San Francisco hills are no joke. One of our first hurdles leaving the pier was going up a hill. Walk it if you must, but don’t give up. There is an even more dangerous one you need to loop around (with cars) just to get on to the bridge.
Wear a light jacket or windbreaker. SF gets cold and you will be by the water. Layers are good. You can always peel off a jacket and strap it down on your bike with the bungee cords they provide you. Our purses were kept quite safe.
Bring a bottle of water. It’ll serve as gasoline for your body to keep you going. Last but not least, allow for plenty of time for your ride. You can ride all the way to Sausalito! We didn’t. We barely had enough time to get across the bridge and come back.
I will say that our bike rental was a pleasant experience and a leisure ride. The staff was friendly and took care of us so that we were comfortable on our bikes. The bikes were in good condition and I have no complaints about Blazing Saddles. From the other reviews, I saw concerns about the nominal deposit. To me, its the same as a hotel or car fee. You break it, you buy it.
In the meantime, say hello to Aquatic Park, Crissy Field, the Presidio, and the Golden Gate. Use your lil bell. It will come in handy!

Despite the horrible reviews… I’m going to go ahead and give them 5 stars. Here’s why:
–They matched the price of their competitors… no hassle. We were about to walk down the street to get a $ 25 for whole-​day rental, and they said that they always match the price. So, that was settled!
–They offer full 24-​hour rentals. So, it would be $ 25 for a full 24 hours! That’s a deal.
–They explain how to get to the bridge using pictures, and they provide maps.
–They had an after-​hours drop-​off location. Since this location closed at 5pm on the day we rented, we decided to do the after-​hours drop-​off (no extra charge). Simply call them before they close to get the code, then bring your bike to the location they tell you to. In our case, it was on Hyde street, just a couple blocks from this location.
–They provide a lock at no extra charge.
–Conveniently located… with lots of store locations, too!
–Friendly customer service. No bullshit. I love that.
The only con for us was that we couldn’t find long-​term parking. We had to keep our trip short (4 hour-​parking). Which isn’t short for most people anyway… and it’s not the business’s fault we couldn’t find parking.
Soo, yeah, it deserves 5 stars. I read some of the negative reviews… one guy complained about them not matching the price (wasn’t a problem for us) and another guy who had an issue with their insurance, or lack there of (umm, I think «bike at your own risk» applies here)…oh and the lady who couldn’t handle the hills (the hills have nothing to do with this business, and that review is bs). I honestly think it deserves 5 stars, objectively. So give them a chance. I’m always disappointed to see bad reviews on places that deserve good ones!

They were very nice and pleasant. They said they would match the price of any other bike rental place so we told them about our $ 5 off coupon at another place and they said they would honor it, however after our rental they were a little sketchy about the price they said they gave us a free upgrade on that counted as the $ 5 off. We rented two bikes at $ 8 an hour for two and a half hours. Our total should’ve been $ 35 with the $ 5 off but they insisted on charging us $ 40. Overall an ok place just make sure you confirm the price before you rent a bike here.

Horrible customer service, had the worst experience trying to return my bikes.

Business associate and I were in SFC and had a day off on Sunday. Decided on spur of the moment to rent bikes and ride over the bridge and take the ferry back. Catherine and Kevin took good care of us — we had well fitting helmets, and our bikes were in really nice mechanical condition. This turned out to be a bit more work than I thought (some hills), but we had a great time and I really felt that the rental place took care of us and, while not cheap, it was convenient and the quality was good.
I noticed another review about riding on roads in SFC. This is not my cup of tea, and that’s why I liked the location of this rental place — its right at the start of the bike lanes, and you only ride a hundred feet or so on the street. Returning by ferry, you can either walk the bike back — not a long walk — or take your chances on the road.

I bought a Travelzoo deal for the «urban parks» tour for 2 people.
In my mind, I thought OK I’m willing to pay $ 55 for 2 of us to get decent bikes and someone to follow for a couple hours. They said they just launched this tour so i didn’t expect it to be «all that». Plus I know the city so I didn’t come into wanting to learn a whole lot or anything.
The lady on the phone (w/​australian accent?) was very accommodating and professional– she pretty much tipped the scales for me to go for it.
The staff was friendly & funny. We enjoyed our guide even though he was not experienced w/​the tour; a genuinely nice guy doing his best w/​what he was given. Took our photos, helped w/​our helmets, made conversation. If he wanted to improve his knowledge about the tour I think he’d be fantastic w/​the support of the business. (But that’s up to them!)
Could it have been better? Most definitely.
Was it bad? Absolutely not.
Its not for anyone who needs hand-​holding or has high expectations. If you choose to ride a bike through the city you need to be able to hold your own on a bike. (Duh! It’s a tour not a lesson!)

Hmm. This place (Fishermans’ Wharf location) seems to be the definition of ‘tourist trap’. I asked specifically if there were hills, and they lied their asses off. Then I asked how long the entire ride takes, and again they lied their asses off. I am in fair shape and if I wasn’t, there is no way that I would’ve made it without an ambulance. Oh, and one last thing, if you choose to take the ferry back from Sausalito, it’s not included in your ticket. You will be charged the 10 bucks upon your return. They don’t make that clear enough on the outset, IMO.
Here is what they should have said: If you are looking for a beautiful, yet CHALLENGING ride (long, often with some sharp inclines) along the San Francisco Bay, over the GG Bridge, and down (what goes UP must come DOWN, so I do mean DOWN) the winding roads into Sausalito, then this is an excellent opportunity for you.
Looking back, I really did enjoy the experience. No thanks, to Blazing Saddles, or BS, as they should be called.

Absolutely terrible customer service. Jamie and other workers were very rude.
We rented ahead online but realized the day before that it was going to rain. Instead of giving us full refund, our only options were to 1) Get a gift card (we live out of town) or 2) pay $ 15 cancellation fee PER BIKE!
When we raised our concerns about it raining, they hung up on us on the phone!
I hope that no one rents from these people.

This business is a joke. I’m convinced that neighborhood kids could pool their bikes together for rentals and provide better customer service, city know-​how and equipment experience than the people who work here.
If you want details, read on:
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
You enter and are immediately accosted by a worker who feigns interest in a 3 minute monologue of how to get to the Golden Gate Bridge, Sausalito, etcetera. Don’t waste your time listening. The map is much more informative and the signs you see on your actual ride are fairly intuitive.
Next, the workers yell across the store about what equipment you need, but you’ll find yourself repeatedly telling each of them repeatedly what you need. Some super aggressive guy will wordlessly grab the right leg of anyone wearing pants to snap a rubber band on, only to do it again to the left leg when he realizes he didn’t know which side the bike chain is on.
UNKNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT BIKES
They give someone in your party ferry tickets for everyone in your group and you can return however many you don’t use so you don’t get charged. Then they give you a bike and have you «bike» about 20 feet to the entrance to wait for your party. Then they send you on your way. 2 of the 3 tandem bicycles we got were broken. I guess they didn’t think to check that the bikes they’re renting are in working order before sending people out on them. Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
We returned and they didn’t know how to fix them (shocker) and it took several minutes and concessions on our part (in terms of which type of bike we rented) to get us on our way again.
The ride is beautiful and enjoyable. Even they can’t ruin that.
UNINTELLIGENT AND MORE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Getting home was a challenge. First, they didn’t give us enough ferry tickets. When we called to make sure we wouldn’t be charged for the one we were missing, the worker said they couldn’t guarantee that.
Second, despite Blazing Saddles claiming no one gets left behind, the last ferry out of Sausalito got full with only half of our group able to board, forcing them to take a cab with their 3 bikes.
Third, the half of us that did get on the ferry successfully were taken to a Pier 1 (not Fisherman’s Wharf which is the only drop-​off the «guide» mentioned and is significantly closer to the store), leading to a scary 15 minute bike ride through high-​traffic areas at night with no bike light. We are from SF so we know where to go, but I can’t imagine how awful it would have been to be a out-​of-​town tourist. It would be a terrifying trek for anyone who’s not from the area, doesn’t speak the language and/​or doesn’t have a smartphone on them.
DEMEANING CHEERING AND EVEN MORE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
When you arrive back at the store, they cheer for you facetiously, which is annoying and demoralizing.
I pointed out that they never mentioned the Pier 1 drop-​off, to which they responded by telling me I should have read the shuttle schedule instead of relying on their presentation, which further proves listening to their unhelpful presentation is a waste.

The service here is bizarre! The workers are clearly tainted by dealing with tourists all day. My husband and I walked into the narrow shop because no one was in front greeting at the time. When I found someone she whispered to me and i couldn’t understand her. Then i heard her say, «who allowed you to enter»? «Did someone tell you to come in here»? «You need to go outside now and stand by the curb.». She was really awkward and made us feel really uncomfortable. Another staff woman gives you the memorized canned speech and rapid fires the speech to you about the bike ride, pictures, the bridge, etc. The only saving grace was Bryan, the guy who helped us with getting our bikes ready, he was easygoing, friendly and helpful.
Besides the so-​so bizarro service, the bikes were in good condition, helmets are optional and the recommended bike route is really fun and is a good workout! We had a really nice time. We arrived in Saucilito and took the ferry to the Ferry Building were we rode from Pier 1 to Pier 41.
The manager of Blazing Saddles should re-​train the Jefferson staff on Customer Service and I’ll reconsider a 3 or 4 star review.

The people are fairly nice and our intro person had I think an Irish accent and when she started talking about our route of where we were going to go it was so fast we didn’t get anything she said. I’m sure she had to memorize that long thing.
the cheapist bike per day is $ 32 though they do throw in a ferry ticket which is $ 10 and if you decide not to use it they won’t charge you for that. I believe they know you will use it anyways because the ridiculous hills you have to go up and down you will feel like you are going to die several times throughout your bike ride.
Insurance for the bike is $ 4, we decided not to get it since chances are if the bike is injured we will probably be injured and it doesn’t include insurance on the rider. I did manage to do a slow fall over a small 15 ft cliff with a 7ft cheek and shoulder faced break on a rock before I broke my fall on the side of some house. The bike was still good. So note that the bikes are sturdy. It’s only if you get hit by a car/​bus/​trolly etc that you will probably need the insurance. lol
I had not ridden a bike in about 10 years so my legs were not in shape for this. We were all suffering withing the first 20min of riding and we ended up having the bikes for about 6hours because of our multiple stops.

Sad that this place didn’t have higher ratings but I loved the experience and the people working here! Everyone was really friendly, lively and fun! This wa the highlight of my time in SF (besides getting married) and for months I was excited to bike the GGB! Please note that I haven’t ridden a bike in over 10 years so the staff did a great job and calming me down AND I got a helmet (helmets were optional).
It’s an eight mile ride and yes, there are some small hills on the way over, but the ride is awesome!!! The bike comes with maps and a pouch for keys, phone, camera, phone, etc. If you do this ride, stop in Sausalito for lunch and take the ferry back. Warning; it’s almost completely uphill going back to SF!

Due to a spontaneous decision to bike across GG bridge, my friend and I rented a tandem bike from here. Cost was $ 15/​hr or $ 60/​day. I knew it’d be a tourist trap but it was entertaining to see exactly how so. We had already walked by several Blazing Saddles branches and they all had the same spiel: «Interested in biking across GG bridge? It’s a 1 hour bike ride, then only a 10 minute downhill to Sausalito where you can catch a ferry that will take you back to SF!»
They of course have some deal with the ferry company so they never suggest that you could actually bike across the bridge, then (gasp!) bike back! Moreover, they give you ferry tickets when you rent, saying «We make it convenient for you so you don’t have to wait in line at the ferry dock in Sausalito! And you don’t have to pay now, you can pay when you get back!» I see how it is… they figure once people have the ferry tickets in hand they are more likely to actually use them. So basically the time spent on the ferry costs $ 10.50 (cost of ferry) + $ 15/​hr (cost of having the tandem bike in your possession even though you are not riding it). Talk about a rip off!
That said, I still had a great time biking across the bridge (both ways of course!) on a sunny day and the bike was better and more comfortable than one I had previously rented at Stow Lake. The round trip took ~1 hr 40 min at a leisurely pace with a couple stops to take pictures. However, next time I am in the neighborhood and have the urge to go biking I will rent from the Presidio Sports Basement for a much better deal.

Came in a little after lunch time. They seemed to have plenty of bikes. Four of us came in got our bikes and were on our way. This location closed around 5 or 5:30 but if you go later you can return it to one of their other locations.
Nothing crazy special about their service. Pouch on front of bike is pretty big. Could hold a rolled up sweater.
Oh and come on… I am about to go ride on your bike for a couple hours… You don’t have a bathroom I can use??? Really???

This is a new location is very close to Aquatic Park and all their staff are sending the people down to Aquatic Park to Gashouse Cove and then eventually to Fort Mason.
The only problem is Aquatic Park is a no ride zone! People must walk their bikes but often don’t because this place sends all the people down this path.
