Blue Sparrow Holistic Veterinary House Calls is a mobile veterinary team dedicated to caring for pets within the greater San Francisco area.

Led by veterinarian Dr. Araba Oglesby, Blue Sparrow is comprised of professional, dedicated animal lovers who bring years of experience and skill. We specialize in treating canine and feline patients and focus on the whole patient, not just a cluster of symptoms.

Blue Sparrow is a forward-​facing practice that combines traditional Western medicine with complementary modalities to ensure the best care for your pet.

Business Owner

For more than 25 years, Dr. Araba has been passionate about animals. From her canine companions and feline friends of San Francisco to the black howler monkeys of Belize, Dr. Araba has cared for them all! The owner of Blue Sparrow Holistic Veterinary House Calls, Dr. Araba brings together the very best of both Eastern and Western medicine to offer your pet outstanding expertise and care.

Dr. Araba received her DVM from Ross University in 2006 after completing her clinical curriculum at Purdue University. After completing her doctorate, Dr. Araba worked in general practice at Linda Mar, then completed her small animal rotating internship at SFVS, emphasizing emergency medicine. She again worked in general practice at the SF SPCA before rejoining SFVS as an associate emergency veterinarian where she worked for 4+ years.

She has been an integrative house call veterinarian in the Bay Area for over 2 years, and received her integrative education and training through the Chi Institute.

Dr. Oglesby and Melissa are amazing. My cat Margot is almost 13 and super difficult to get in a carrier. She’s such a drama queen about the whole thing, she hyperventilates, cries and just loses her stuff and it’s painful to see her so upset. So I decided to try having the vet come over to me. Wow. I can say it’s really worth it. Watching these two animal first professionals win over Margot and gently take her through her physical was the most peaceful and nurturing process I’ve ever seen. Now I’m just a wee bit jealous that my annual isn’t quite as fantastic as what Margot got, but c’est la vie. It’s a bonus to have them in your house as I learned that the cut lily flowers that I had were poisonous to cats and I got a host of nutrition recommendations to help Margot stay healthy. Thank you both. Cheers.

Dr. Araba is the best! She has been treating my Kasha cat for a few years now. She comes over monthly and gives acupuncture with laser treatments along with vitamin B-​12 if needed. Kasha has had diarrhea for years and always misdiagnosed by your conventional Western Medical vets! It turns out she has Irritable Bowel Syndrome or IBS just like people get. At least we have a name for what was happening. I never had that before!
Diet has a lot to do with all of this if not the main culprit. Stay away from the nasty grain and soy and processed foods. I took them off the dry food completely as it dehydrates cats but I never knew this. Even if they drink water it is not necessary to have it out all day.
Both my cats are on healthy excellent foods now and along with Dr. Araba’s treatments Kasha is celebrating her 14th birthday today and literally she would not be here today if I had not met Dr. Araba! Kasha and I thank you with all of our hearts and souls!

Wonderful veterinarian. Dr. Araba and her assistant Melissa (also wonderful) came over to visit my cat Rocky, who was recently diagnosed with heart disease. I was loath to drag him into the cat carrier again for a vet appt after a recent trip to emergency so decided on Blue Sparrow out of the few vets in SF that do home visits. The thing I appreciate about Dr. Araba is her holistic approach, concerned not just with medical issues, but with quality of life for cats and their humans. She was thorough in her exam, both in the questions she asked and w/​the physical component. Highly recommended! I will definitely call on Blue Sparrow for any future vet needs. My cat is 17 and my dog is almost 8. They have lived in the City all their lives and I’ve had both of them from kitten and puppyhood. Needless to say, we have frequented our share of veterinary facilities in the City. Finding Dr. Araba last year has changed both of their lives (and mine) dramatically, for the better. She healed my cat after two different facilities misdiagnosed him and had him on unnecessary meds for months. My dog is in the best physical and behavioral health of his life thanks to Dr. Araba. I love that she uses both Eastern and Western medicine; it means so many more options for my animals’ health and wellness, and a far more balanced approach to their care.
We all love her, and now there is none of that awful stress on my animals from having to take them — terrified — to a clinic. No more of those rushed clinic visits where you wait and wait, only to have the vet spend all of 15 minutes with you. You have her full compassionate, experienced and encyclopedic attention for an hour!!!

Dr. Oglesby is an extraordinary cat veterinarian! We have 3 cats, and she has been attending to our cats for about a year. She is very patient, observant, and extremely knowledgeable about cats. She always arrives well-​prepared, clearly having reviewed past notes not just about the medical care but the personalities and behavior of each individual cat. She is at least as knowledgeable about cat behavior as medical care, and she has given me many tips and insights that are very useful. Having a vet make house visits is a bit more expensive, but overall her charges are comparable or less than what I’ve paid elsewhere in SF (e.g. SPCA, SF Vet Hospital, and other private vet).
