Breakin’ With Ark

Jeff Wong, a.k.a. Bboy Ark, is one of the best breakers and best teachers I’ve ever had the pleasure to work with. He’s professional, he’s great with youth, and he knows his history. I’ve taught many workshops and classes through my work with
, and Ark is my first choice when it comes to teaching breakin!

Jeff came to my school to work with my 9^th graders, and he was fantastic! He was patient and professional and really demonstrated what it means to be a positive and effective role model. He did a fantastic job keeping the workshop relevant and educational. Even the students who chose not to participate enjoyed themselves and stayed engaged. He’s an excellent educator and performer.

Jeff is not just a break dancing teacher — he is a mentor to all his students. All the reviews on his teaching are true. He knows how to motivate each child. He inspires them to challenge themselves. He instills the importance of what focused energy and persistence can do. He’s truly a gifted teacher and my 14 year old daughter loves every class!

My son has been lucky to be a student of Jeff’s for the past three years. In that time we have come to know Jeff not only as an exceptional dancer but as a fantastic teacher, role model, person and friend. Jeff excels at teaching dance and performing but more importantly he passes on critical life skills. Through dancing with Jeff, my son has learned that skills come with goal setting, dedication and practice. Jeff creates a positive environment that is safe (both physically and emotionally) and all about kindness and acceptance for the kids. My son is always the last one to leave class. Jeff, selflessly, is always there offering his time to give one last tip or piece of advice no matter how exhausting my child is. :) I could go on and on. I just can not express how thankful I am to have Jeff in my son’s life.

Jeff came to my school today to do an intro lesson to breakdancing with my 12^th grade students. They loved it. Even the students who watched, came back later to watch and participate. He is professional, inspirational, passionate, sincere, and true to what he speaks about. He is a positive role model, and I hope that more young people come into contact with him and his style of teaching. I saw my students engaged in a way that I have not seen them engaged before. As a teacher, it was inspiring to watch how he could motivate students and help build their confidence in dance expression, in movement expression. Thank you, Jeff! Keep doing what you do!

Jeff is a beautiful person, and extraordinary spirit… he can’t help but be awesome at whatever he works towards. All of that came across when I was fortunate enough to interview and hire him to teach breakdance at AP Giannini’s Afterschool Program. The impression didn’t fade one bit in the time that we worked together. Jeff brought fantastic energy and made strong connections with kids that really needed it; he taught them how to dedicate to practice and electrify crowds. Jeff taught team work, struggle and hip-​hop history, and equity through dance. I’m very proud to be a part of Jeff’s story and to have him as a friend.

Jeff is a great teacher for bboying. Not only is he an amazing dancer, he also understands the essence of the culture and inspires his students to embrace it. I strongly recommend him if you want to get into the world of breaking.

I have had the pleasure of working with Jeff at the Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center. He is extremely professional and talented in his teaching. I have witnessed groups of youth transform their belief in what they are capable of — pushing past their self-​envisioned limitations. He is extremely patient, positive and passionate. Although he has moved on professionally, he still visits his old students and brings an energy into the room that is intoxicating. I have learned so much from him as a colleague and he has broadened my understanding of youth development and empathy. I cannot recommend Jeff enough!

Jeff is fantastic. I came to breaking a little later in life and started with no small amount of fear being new to it, and he has been an amazing teacher — knowledgeable, patient, and most of all super positive and encouraging. Lessons are always fun and challenging in all the right ways so that you enjoy it but are still growing and learning constantly. Highly recommended!
