Listed in «Americas Top Ophthalmologists,» and Past President of the prestigious California Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, Dr Andrew Calman teaches eye surgery at UCSF and CPMC, and in his private practice has been a Bay Area pioneer in advanced computerized diagnosis and minimally invasive laser and microsurgery for cataracts, glaucoma, and diabetic retinopathy. He is skilled in the treatment of patients with especially complex or severe eye problems.
Dr. Calman completed his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at Yale University with degrees in molecular biophysics and biochemistry, Summa Cum Laude. He then attended the UCSF School of Medicine, earning his M.D. and Ph.D. in Microbiology and Immunology (and winning the Dean’s Prize and Chancellor’s Fellowship), followed by a three-year residency in ophthalmology at UCSF.
Dr. Calman has served as a Medical Expert for the Medical Board of California, and is an Associate Examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology, helping to board-certify the next generation of physicians. He has been recognized by his peers as a leader at the local, state and national levels, including serving as an advisor to Medicare and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He speaks nine languages, including Spanish and Tagalog.
