Canine In the City

I cannot believe that I am only just now getting around to writing about Scott and Canine In The City.
In short: total perfection in dog walking.
Our dog, Minnie Mouse, has been going to play group with Scott for two years now, pretty much every day. Scott picks her up and drops her off and she has a great time with him.
We could not be more comfortable giving Scott a key to our home and codes to our alarm. He’s reliable and super nice. In two years, I cannot recall any single negative issue.
The only negative is for you: he’s pretty darn booked. You’ll need to wait behind the velvet collar.

Two thumbs up, five stars, whatever is the max for Scott.
Scott has been walking my little guy Tank for nearly year and I think he is great.
Admittedly, I am a little crazy about my dog and think my dog rocks. But, like other Unilocalers here, my dog is not perfectly behaved and, like many rescue dogs, has had some socialization /​aggression issues. Unlike many dog walkers, Scott does not freak out when you admit your dog is not perfect. He is honest, tells you what he thinks, and works with your dog. I frankly think that Tank is probably better with Scott than with me. I went out one day with him and the pups and was impressed how easy the dogs are with him and vice-​versa.
I also appreciate that Scott is a dog-​person who recognizes that dogs are dogs and doesn’t spout the BS that a lot of SF dog trainers /​walkers do about never disciplining your dog for fear it will somehow damage the dog’s psyche.
And, one thing that is clear is that Scott really cares about the dogs — Tank has had two surgeries in the past few months and Scott has called to check in on him when Tank was out of commission and off his walk schedule for a week or so. I thought that showed a lot about
how he cares about the dogs.
Also, he is just a super-​nice guy!

I don’t even know where to start! Scott is the bomb! He is a family member… he’s been taking my baby, Nico, out for romps since I got
him back in 1999! Yikes, it’ll be 11 years in July.
My Nico was a shelter dog and let’s say he had «issues». Well, not after a short time under Scott’s love and alpha dog ways. I swear, Nico was a changed dog after just 6 months under Scott’s love and care.
I could gush on and on… and think I will for a bit! Scott is beyond
professional he has integrity, skills, warmth and a true affection
and natural talent with dogs. I trust him with every fiber of my
being.
Scott always does just like he says, communicative and very fun.
I think Nico thinks he is part time Dad. 11 years kind of says it
all. Your dog will never have it so good. Fort Funston, Stern
Grove all the dog heavens open with Scott as the Guardian.
I start out at 2 days a week… upped it to 3 days… and now send
Nico out 5 DAYS A WEEK with Scott because it brings such joy
(and health… he’s 12 this year and seems MUCH younger)
to my boy. Obviously this is the highest recommendation I could
give to a service!

Let me preface this by saying that Scott has not walked my dog. I am not in the area he covers. However, he has proven to be an amazing resource to me and is one of the sweetest, nicest people I have met in San Francisco.
Having recently moved here I needed to find someone to walk my dog, Gordon. He has some aggression issues with other dogs and, despite my efforts, has never been successfully socialized. I read in other people’s Unilocal reviews that Scott worked well with dogs like this so I gave him a call for advice. He offered to meet me and my dog out on one of his walks to see how it went. When I met him he was so patient and professional with the dogs that I felt instantly comfortable. We were able to have a very successful hour-​long walk with Gordon off the leash with no issues. He also suggested we get him a muzzle. Now in all the years and all the trainers I have talked to about my dog no one has ever mentioned this to me before and it has already proven to be a game changer. My dog is much better behaved around other dogs with it on and I feel much more confident about having him amongst other dogs.
Scott even offered to let me meet him again out on one of his walks and I think that meeting with him a few more times will do wonders for the way Gordon interacts with other dogs.
This is the kind of guy you want taking care of your dog. He is a delight to talk to as well.

Scott was great with our chocolate lab. It’s hard to get enough exercise for a lab, but Scott managed it with a great walk at a big park. I’m really glad we found his service.
While the dog’s walk comes first, Scott has been completely reliable and professional, which is also a great bonus.

I really didn’t believe the reviews here, until I had Scott walk my dog, Niles, who was a rescue. With Scott my dog went from rough around the edges with bad manners to a dog that could play well with others.
My dog would always come back happy and tired.
He does a great job of taking care of your dog, goes above and beyond what other walkers would do, and I trust him like family.

Scott is truly a gifted dogwalker. He’s one of those walkers who’s more than a walker– he’s a great trainer too. Our energetic Lab walked with him for almost two years in her adolescence and couldn’t have been happier. His daily «walks» were actually romps to Fort Funston. My dog came home satiated and tired after a day at her favorite destination– the beach.
Scott was great about giving us constructive feedback if Lola had areas of training to work on. He also approaches dogwalking with care and respect, but also authority.
We recommend Scott enthusiastically!

Scott (Lader of the Pack– Canine in the City) is in one word — awesome.
He eagerly took on my mischievous mutt Henry during my year-​long stay in SF… providing much-​needed romps for my four-​legged boy and a relatively guilt-​free conscience for me :)

I learned of Canine in the City (Scott) from the reviews here on Unilocal.After meeting Scott, I knew he’d be great for my socially challenged shepherd, Roman. He takes Roman out to Ft Funston a few times a week with a group of dogs. The dogs all listen and respect Scott as their pack leader. I’ve walked with him and have seen him in action. He truly knows about dog behavior — a must in a dog walker!
Because my dog can be dominant and sometimes a bully (but not aggressive) I needed a walker who knew how to work with these behavior traits. I needed to trust the walker since, not only do I LOVE this dog, but I’ve put countless hours and money into his training and behavior rehabilitation (he’s a rescue). A trainer told me that in many instances, having a dog walker can undo the training. Well, I have had the opposite experience with Scott. In the month he’s been walking my dog, Roman has become so much more responsive to me. Plus, he’s calmer at the end of the day due to the exercise and socialization.
The other thing I must mention is that Scott is flexible and affordable. He’s organized and knows how to run his business.
Anyone can call themselves a dog walker but few, in my experience, are true dog care professionals (most, I wouldn’t touch with a ten foot pole). Scott is one of those few and we are so fortunate to have found him!

Scott has now been walking my other dog, Tikka, for over a month. Tikka had dog aggression issues… she is small, but thinks she’s all that and has actually attacked a chow and Roman! When Scott took her, I handed him the muzzle and prayed. She wore the muzzle for maybe a week and now, not only does she enjoy her off leash walks with the pack… I take her to Ft. Funston and Crissy regularly where she meets tons of dogs on a daily basis. No more aggression! I’ve had several dog walkers before, but none could handle Roman and Tikka off leash. Now, they are both Canine Good Citizens :)

He’s a cool kat, better yet a cool D.o.GG…
I’ve been doing 3days a week, for my Whippet/​shepard mix Named SaFari… who’s a firecracker, the first day scott met him he made him heal, Which was incredible… Secondly, you could see his passion for Dogs, everytime I talk or see him… I definitely recommend him due to his knowledge, honesty and trustworthinesss…
Affordable, and flexible… My dog now naps for at least 3 – 4 hours on the days he goes out.

Scott is San Francisco’s own dog whisperer. He has been walking my boy Tashi since 2005 and I don’t know what I would do without him. Tashi waits on the back of the couch everyday looking out the window waiting for Scott to come and pick him up for play a date with his buddies. Scott isn’t one of those dog walkers who comes over and walks your dog around the block. Scott picks up all the dogs in his truck and then takes them all the way out to Fort Funston (AKA dog heaven) and lets the dogs play off leash in a safe contained place. I feel like my dog is spoiled by Scott and I love it! Scott loves what he does and this really shows. I can’t recommend Scott more highly.

Scott walked my pit bull Pluto for almost six years. The only reason Pluto doesn’t go out with Scott anymore is because he lost a leg to cancer. And during that rough time when Pluto was recovering, Scott went way above and beyond, coming by for visits on the odd weekend (which really helped raise Pluto’s spirits) and for brief potty breaks during the week. Scott is considered a member of our family, and he will treat your dog like family too.

Monty (the dog) and I have been with Scott for 5+ years. We worship the ground he walks on. I wouldn’t trust my Monty with anyone else. Highly recommended!

Scott from Canine in the City is like family. Scott took care of our sweet girl, Luna, an old loving Rottweiler, for over 5+ years. Scott always went above and beyond to care for Luna who loved their time together. It’s a huge decision on who you trust your canine companion to and I can recommend Scott will all my heart. He is an incredibly caring person and fabulous uncle to all the dogs he cares for. Any dog who gets to play at Canine in the City is a happy, lucky dog.

We had a loving «nice to people» Chesapeake Bay Retriever who was a LITTLE crazy around
other dogs. OK, he used a Maltese as a squeaky toy once,
he was fully crazy around dogs we met on our walks which were isolated due to his
lack of socialization. We thought retriever — ball — retriever — ball —
we didn’t know he could get along with the other dogs on the block…
until we met Scott, the owner of Canine in the City. hallelujah hallelujah.
I didn’t believe it at first. After only a week of walks
with Scott our dog, Mud, greeted other dogs on our walks.
I was stunned by his canine to canine friendliness.
My surprise turned to amazement one day when I walked
Mud to the truck to meet Scott. Scott opened the
top gate to the truck and the two cute labs in the bed wagged
at Scott and I and when he lowered the tailgate the two cute labs
saw Mud and went CRAZY wagging and jumping. Mud bound in the
truck and it was like old friends had been reunited…
That is what Canine in the City gave us —
a nice dog that had no friends and didn’t know how to make them
turned most popular dog at the park with friends he sits by the door and
waits for.
