Slow-paced, warm atmosphere and service, with reasonably-priced wines on tap and excellent deep dish pizza. Our $ 27 stuffed pizza appeared to have $ 175 worth of ingredients piled on to it, and we will surely be eating the remnants of it for years to come.

Excellent service Excellent food Excellent deep dish This is as good as it gets for Chicago deep dish outside of the Second City, in fact it’s better than most Chicago establishments! Tony the owner truly puts perfection into his work. Life long fan

Mama Mia. I was hesitant that I’d be walking into a dressed up bucca di beppo but I was way off. The food is absolutely delicious, authentic and super high quality. The service is excellent as well. They have a wonderful bar with lots of beer and wine by the jug(I think it’s on tap). Coming from in Italian family, this spot has some real deal family style stuff. Must try the garlic cheese bread, caesar salad(with real anchovies, thank god!!) and calabrese sausage. Get a group together, a jug of wine and share a bunch of things on the menu and you will not be disappointed.

The food and service here are AMAZING!!! No wonder they were packed. We arrived rather early on a Saturday night. Perhaps it was because it was beer week, but I have a feeling they’re busy all the time. Ambiance: it’s pretty cool in here with a large bar and large, cushioned seating areas. It’s not very big so I’d make a reservation. We thought we’d come in with a group of six and order some food and drinks at the bar but there wasn’t any room at the bar or any tables available. The waitress graciously accommodated us and we stood along a ledge that ran through the center of the restaurant. Luckily it’s not too hard to eat pizza standing up, but I’d love to come back and try their pastas. Service: I feel terrible that I can’t remember our waitress’ name but she was SONICE. Like I said, we were kind of in this in-between area but she treated us like we were at a table; actually she treated us better than that. She brought us plates, napkins, and silverware. She checked on us multiple times and always had a friendly smile on her face even though we were in an awkward area. Food: OMG so delicious. The waitress suggested a new appetizer of sausage stuffing. it was made with pretzel bread, mushrooms, and cheese. It is incredible. Definitely get this! There was enough to share between 4 – 6 people because it’s so rich. Unfortunately we didn’t have enough time to order the deep dish pizza(takes 50 mins), but the thin crust didn’t disappoint. We ordered the Old Chicago(Tomato sauce, mozzarella, provolone, chicago Italian sausage, meatball, garlic, ricotta, oregano and romano), again at the suggestion of our waitress. I am not a huge meat person but this was so good. I cannot wait to come back to try their other options! Come with a group so you can try multiple things.

Plenty of solid reviews so I’ll be concise. The meatballs are tasty and worth getting as a starter while you wait for the deep dish pizza. We got the BIG Joe(was that the name?) deep dish and it was terrific. Three if us couldn’t finish it off. Worth a visit if you like deep dish pizza which is rare to satisfy here in the Bay Area. Good job Tony !!

We loved this place while in the city! The service was good & the food was amazing! We got the antipasto, which comes on TWO plates/boards… It was a huge appetizer for only $ 15! The garlic cheese bread with arugula AND truffle oil & mushrooms, for under $ 10? You’ve got to be kidding me?! By the time we got our delicious, spicy baked seafood pasta entrée(to share) we could barely fit it in! I would definitely recommend Capo’s to anyone visiting the city!

Ordered pick up from this place from the Unilocal app and it went okay. They were having some trouble with their online ordering system and they took a few minutes to get my order. Parking around 7:45−8pm was a bit challenging but available in the border of Chinatown. So, I went for the recommendations of various other Unilocalers on the deep dish pizza ordered the«Old Chicago» since that was most appealing. Ate a slice and it was really good! The crust, the sauce, the filling all came together in the slice! They definitely don’t skimp on the tomato sauce and the pizza held together nicely w/o any pieces falling off it. One of the best deep dish pizzas in SF! Definitely coming back to this place to eat with my friends for sure!

Deeeee-li-cious! Their meatballs — $ 6 for 3 — are divine. The service was superb as well. Our waitress mastered the art — she was attentive without being overly chatty, and made our dining experience really pleasant. Love this place!

Five Star Pizza, three star service. My gf is from Chicago. She wanted real chicago-style thin crust. In her 8 years in SF this has been the only pizza to match those expectations. I also thought it was really good, but no better or worse than the other top-of-the-line thin crust pizzas i’ve had elsewhere. The service was kind of annoying. #1 they don’t do delivery, except through Caviar(see my 1-star review for them if you dare). So pickup is the next option, so I order and pay online — and when we get there to pick up. Chaos. Systems and orders weren’t matching up, they had to get a manager, and we stood there for 20 minutes while the pizza is decreasing in quality waiting for them to get their shit together. They are good, but actually GETTING the pizza is not really worth the time and effort involved.

Saw this little gem while walking around the city. We were craving pizza and saw that they specialized in Chicago deep dish so we had to try it. There are a lot of options in North Beach but none that I know of that do deep dish. Came on a Friday night and found two seats at the bar because we didn’t have a reservation. Ordered a Moscow Mule and a deep dish stuffed pizza. First off the mule was amazing, made in a real copper mug too which is a bonus. Pizza took just around 45 mins to bake. They offered us Soup and soda bread so we had something to nibble on. We didn’t order an app because it was just the two of us and the bartender said their deep dish pizzas were one size and come with 6 slices. Glad we listened to this advise and when the pizza came we only finished one slice each. Just like I remembered from a pizza joint in Chicago, one slice will fill you up. We ended up taking most of the pizza home and finishing it the next morning. The best left overs ever! Overall Capos is a very nice restaurant and it much more than pizza. I would have liked to try more of their food. Looks like they make their own pasta there in house as well. The pizza was so good though that I’ll most likely stick with that next time. Think I’ll need to bring more people next time then.lol.

Can’t get reservations to Tony’s…not a problem! Walk a few blocks up and grab yourself a seat at Capo’s. While some of their dishes and pies are slightly different, they still offer the same great rustic Italian flavors. Hubby loves their cracker thin while I prefer their cast iron pan(the Dillinger being one of my favs!) or quattro forni. A nice accommodation is that they allow you to split a pie between 2 flavors. It’s perfect if there’s a few of you and you are looking for variety but cannot buy 2 pies. While margarita is always a safe favorite, you can’t go wrong with the Sam Giancana or Old Chicago either. Both very hearty and flavorful. If you are not a fan of pies, don’t worry… Capo’s got you covered w/other Italian favorites. Their wood fired seafood conchigile, baked artichoke, and clam casino are amongst my favorites. They also serve complimentary soup and bread on the house plus they have a great selection of drinks at this bar counter. When we were in there last week, I saw a sign by the door for spaghetti & meatball night on Sundays. Not sure what that’s all about but I’d be coming back soon enough to find out! :)

Great restaurant. We came here on New Years Eve because they took reservations online, had a TV, and it was close to the Embarcadero. It’s definitely on the smaller size so get reservations. The portions are very big here. One meal can definitely feed two people. The meatballs and garlic bread alone could feed two people. The red sauce was official as well. The ambiance was also very chill. They played old mob classics and the exposed brick really sets the ambiance. Only complaint is they leave the door open too often and it gets cold. We definitely will be coming back

I give the services and delicious complimentary soup 4 stars, but 3 for their food/pizzas. Made reservation on a Thursday night for a party of 4 and they wouldn’t seat us until we were all there. Everything just tasted salty. I thought it was my pallet but asked the group and 2 others said the same. Sister vouched for this place so maybe there was an oopsie with the spices that day. Ordered the clam casino and I only had two. Not sure if they forgot bacon is already salty to reduce the additional sodium. They could also do without the bread crumbs which made the dish soggy. Pizza — ordered the Johnny Torrio and Michigan Ave. Both large on cracker thin. Wow was the Michigan Ave salty. Never had a simple pepperoni pizza that tasted like this. I had to ordered a beer to wash it down. Johnny wasn’t bad but tad salty. Really enjoyed the hot giardiniera and sweet peppers. They were a great touch to make the pizza spicy and flavorful.

Came for dinner last night and had a really enjoyable evening. The old school red leather booths and photo of Al Capone on the wall was fun and different. They even have an old phone booth in the corner with different size coin slots — I was told by the waitress that you can call anywhere in the US for free on it though it was too late in the evening for us to try. Food was good and portions were generous to say the least. This is one of those places where all the dishes are meant to be shared family style, even the appetizers. You know, like restaurants used to be? Don’t expect kale on your pizza or hen of the woods mushrooms here. It’s all like you nostalgically remember from your childhood. Since the deep dish pizza takes about 45 minutes to bake we ordered some appetizers to tide us over. Turns out they send out complimentary bowls of minestrone soup + bread. If we had known we probably wouldn’t have ordered so much food. I would advise for a table of 4 only to order 1 appetizer and 1 pizza. For two people, just expect to take a lot home. — minestrone soup — light and brothy, not very filling except in a liquid way but a nice way to tide us over — caprese salad — mozzarella was homemade and tasty, I liked the peppadew relish and olives, lots of slices of mozarella(prob 8+) — antipasti — again lots of slices of salami/cheese/prosciutto, 4 – 8 slices of each, the prosciutto was particularly good — «Big Jim» triple double — we were informed by the waitress this was an 8 lb(yes that’s right!) pizza and it feels like it, sliced into 6 pieces(I chose the smallest but it was still ~1lb) it’s got lots of meat, tomato sauce, a nice thick crust that wasn’t soggy, and dollops of ricotta. It’s a great deep dish pizza. Don’t expect to finish more than one slice if you get appetizers. Very full tummies after dinner. Service was excellent. We had an unexpected +1 to our reservation so had to wait an hour for a different table. Unfortunate but luckily there are several bars nearby and the restaurant both texted and called us to let us know when our table was available. We also had an issue during dinner that they took care of and comped us the antipasti dish. I didn’t give it 5 stars because my heart still belongs to Little Star and their awesome cornmeal crust. Total was $ 100 not including tax + tip for 4 people, 5 drinks, 1 appetizer and the biggest deep dish pizza ever. Not a bad way to go!

Five star dining! Five star food! Been twice in the past month. Saw this place on check please and had to try it for myself. BTW, that was a REALLY good episode of check please ;) Once you’re seated they bring you complimentary minestrone. It’s a thoughtful welcome. This place can have a very long wait. It’s nice to be greeted by a warm cup of soup. Fiancé loves authentic Chicago style deep dish. On our first visit I chose the Dillinger. It’s their award winning deep dish. It was good but underwhelming in a sense that it was bread-heavy with minimal toppings. It wasn’t bad just wasn’t what we were expecting. On our second visit we got the best deep dish I’ve ever had: The Old Chicago. Delicious! Loaded with hearty meats, quality cheese and a well seasoned, robust red sauce. The ricotta cheese dollops were so smooth and rich. The flavor of the ricotta was sweet and unexpected. Outstanding! The house made Calabrese sausage with honey is both spicy and succulent. A must try. Goes well with everything on the menu. Truly adds a spicy-sweet, unexpected kick to pastas and pizzas alike. The wood fired baked artichoke cheese plate was very rich and enough to feed 6 people. It was satisfying but the crostini could have been toasted a bit longer. A good appetizer choice for a large group. What keeps me coming back for more is the Mostaccioli alla Vodka. YUM! The vodka sauce lightly dresses the pasta. Tremendously tasty! This restaurant is well organized. Management and staff are efficient. Lots of staff delegated to check water, beverages and clear plates. Comfy booths and cool décor. Reservations are a must if you’re a large party. Pro Tip: parking garage is a block away. Wish this place was open for lunch!

Starving Unilocalers need only apply! Capo’s is a wonderful restaurant by Tony Gemignani(founder of Tony’s pizzeria Napoletana). Less hectic here and easy to get into. Capo’s reminds me of the old Italian restaurants in North beach in the 70s and 80s that my family would frequent on Saturday or Sunday nights. Family style meals, comfy booths, that amazing blaring music, the smells and sounds… ahhhhh. Pizza here is wonderful if not substantial. We ordered both the cracker thin(Margherita) and the iron pan(Sam Giancanna). While they both had their merits the unanimous vote was for the more bready Iron pan. If you do not like a bready pizza do not order the iron pan. I think it is amazing fluffy, crunchy, topped with amazing cheeses, meats, tomatoes, and veggies… ummmm. The cracker thin is good but not wow. Artichoke dip with crostini is fantastic but very rich. Cesar salad was good. The desserts… if you even dare after all that are just meh. The tiramisu was lackluster and the breadpudding was really doughy and flat as well. nice beer and wine selection. It aint cheap as 5 people with a 20% tip was over 2 Benjamins. Definitely one to checkout and try!!! Tip. Park next to the police station on Vallejo in the public parking lot…3 bucks an hour.

It’s been a while since I last reviewed Capo’s and even then I didn’t have a chance to try their Chicago Style Deep Dish Pizzas. Well, after going back a couple of times with a few hungry friends I can finally post a true review of what Capo’s has to offer. Before we get to the pizzas, let’s discuss Appetizers! Caprese Salad — House-made mozzarella, peppadew relish, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives Pretty much your basic Caprese salad. But they definitely provide a good amount of mozzarella cheese. Wood Fired Baked Artichokes — Wood Fried Baked Artichokes in spinach & provolone cream We ordered this from word of mouth and as you can see from the pic, it’s pretty awesome! They provide almost a loaf of crostini with this and it still wasn’t enough to scrape up all of the dip. You definitely don’t want to eat this alone unless you don’t plan to eat anything else for dinner. Now on to the pizzas! It’s highly recommended to enjoy these with a hungry group of friends. We tried their different crust varieties from Cracker Thin, Pan, and Chicago Deep Dish. What’s nice is that with their pizza menu, you can order most of their specialty pies with any of those three crusts I previously mentioned. Old Chicago Cracker Thin — Tomato sauce, mozzarella, provolone, Chicago italian sausage, meatball, garlic, ricotta, oregano & romano This was a good pizza since it had a lot of tasty meats on it along with dabs of ricotta cheese. Though I think the Old Chicago would be better off as a Deep Dish Pizza. Snap E. Tom Deep Dish — Mozzarella, provolone, garlic, pork chorizo, pepperoni, roasted red peppers, serrano peppers, crushed red pepper, tomato & cholula hot sauce, ricotta, sport peppers, romano & oregano This was actually my favorite pie of all the ones I’ve tried. I love the spicy kick it has from the chorizo, pepperoni, and serrano peppers. I’m glad we ordered this Deep Dish style. The red sauce was amazing and the gooey mozzarella is all on the bottom. This is Chicago Style Deep Dish at its finest! The Dillenger(World’s Best Pan Pizza, International Pizza Challenge, Las Vegas, 2014) – Sharp cheddar, mozzarella, provolone, smoked hanger 1 vodka cream sauce, marinated chicken, bacon, brocollini, artichoke hearts, red bell peppers, garlic, crushed red pepper, fresh lemon If there’s one pizza that you have to try at Capo’s, it’s the Dillenger. This is their prized pie! Literally! Not only does it taste great, it’s one of their most photogenic pies as well. The toppings go really well together. You got chicken, bacon, vodka cream sauce and some nice veggies as well. It’s a very complete pie and it’s no wonder it won World’s Best Pan Pizza. All in all I can’t say anything but great things about Capo’s. Even though Tony’s Pizza Napolitana is still getting all the hype, I really don’t mind Capo’s being the underrated sidekick. I’m glad that I’ve been here a couple more times to try their other pizzas and side dishes. And like Tony’s, there are still a whole slew of menu items I would like to go back and try like their Chicken Parm Sandwich, Italian Beef Sandwich, all their Pastas, and their other pizza pies as well. That’ll be for another future review for sure!

I don’t always get deep dish as I’m more of a thin crust person, but I am so happy that I decided to get the deep dish here! SERVICE: the staff & manager know good customer service. My bf&I were seated nxt to a couple where the guy was really drunk. He would blurt out singing and saying inappropriate things. My bf&I did not want to sit nxt to that for the entire dinner, so we asked the manager if we could change tables. They were extremely generous, allowing us to switch tables w/no hassle, apologizing for the situation, even apologizing again after our dinner. That was a huge plus in my books b/c I’m big for customer service. FOOD: — Woodfried Baked Artichoke: in spinach&provolone cream — soo creamy & savory. The toasted, buttered-sprinkled-cheese bread that came w/it was addicting. Get a piece of the bread, top it w/the artichoke, & bite into a warm, cheesy deliciousness of heaven. Both my bf &I really enjoyed it & could not get enough of it! Definitely recommend for starters — «Big Jim» Colosimo’s Triple Double Deep Dish(mozzarella, provolone, garlic, pepperoni, chicago italian sausage, ricotta, meatball, mushrooms, onions, roasted peppers, bacon, oregano&ramano): the name speaks for itself — big, colosimo, triple, douple, deep. But boy, it was phenomenal! They do not mess around w/the filling b/c there were huge chunks of sausages, pepperonis, mushrooms etc inside. The crust was crisp around the edges yet soft&bready underneath the toppings. Great flavors altogether! My bf&I brought the leftovers home,& even after 1 – 2 days, it still tasted just as amazing. Overall, great first experience w/fantastic food & big portions! Fantastic staff & manager. Definitely will be coming back & definitely recommend checking out!
