Caroline Yong, MD

First of all, my family has been with Dr. Yong for years. She has been a good pediatrician during this time. She talks very often about the negative reviews that she receives on Unilocal and other platforms that rate her practice. Now I know why.
This last year has been a horrible experience with Dr. Yong. We have been billed multiple times for one visit to the office. We have also been told that we need to pay double for an undisclosed reason (in which we continue to decline). This month, I also had a check up appointment scheduled for when I returned from my business abroad. I specified that, because of the time between the appointment was made and the actual date of the appointment was so long that I would need a weeks+ reminder prior to the scheduled date. Dr. Yong called to remind me of our appointment 15 minutes prior to my appointment date, and said that if I failed to show up within 15 minutes, I would need to pay $ 50 per person. I refuse to pay this fee and will look for legal action if she continues to bill me. If she thinks she can scam me for my money, she has another thing coming. Be wary of Dr.Yong.

If only negative stars were possible. Never have I met a doctor who so blatantly violates the hippocratic oath.
Her attitude is horrible and is extremely offensive. I came in a little bit overweight and she told me that I should stop eating. She is also a religious fanatic, she constantly quotes the bible regarding her success, and claims that if I do not go to church I will never be successful in my life. She offers me a bible everytime I walk out, and i take her advice just to stop her from lecturing me. I probably have a good 20 bibles now, thinking about selling them on ebay.
Do not come here. Horrible experience. You have been warned.

Do not know why Unilocal!single out my review as «Not Recommended». Dr. Yong is my daughters’ physician, that is it! She is not our personal friend, so the review is 100% legit. I am sorry that I do not have anything bad to say about her. The following is the original that Unilocal!removed, Hope in the spirit of fair play, they will allow it to stay.
[I am surprised to see that there are some strongly phrased negative reviews of Dr. Yong on Unilocal.I seldom write lengthy reviews, as a matter of fact, this is my first one on Unilocal.In the spirit of fair play, I must put in my two-​cent worth.
While Dr. Yong is not your run of the mill «warm» and «fuzzy» pediatrician, she is an excellent diagnostician and extremely capable physician. She also genuinely cares a lot about her patients’ well-​being. She will always find time to see you if it is an emergency. I will take accurate diagnosis over warmth and fuzziness any day. My two daughters are both Dr. Yong patients since babyhood. They are both adults now (24, 18). Throughout the years, they have received EXCELLENT care from Dr. Yong. I am certain that Dr. Yong will be the pediatrician for my future grandchildren too! ]

I’m really not sure why Dr. Yong has such low ratings! I’ve been with her since I was born, and I’m now 19. Yes she does preach the whole Christian deal with me, but frankly I don’t really care. When I told her I was sexually active, she was shocked, but she didn’t curse me out or tell me I’m going to hell like some other Christians would. She just told me that I should start going to see a gynecologist.
She does a really great job taking care of my younger brother and I. Despite other reviews saying that she’s rude, and pushy, she really isn’t. She does her job well, and she has NEVER rushed my check ups or anyone else’s check ups. I’m always waiting for my appointment because she tells the parent’s of the previous patient what to do to make their child feel better.
If you’re looking for a pediatrician please give Dr. Yong a chance. I’ve known her my entire life (seriously, my entire life) and she’s done an AMAZING job. I actually have an appointment with her tomorrow! I can’t wait to see her (funny huh?) I am not excited for my annual shots though. :/

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Yong since I was born. I’ve never felt compelled to change pediatricians. If I could stick with her forever I definitely would! I have had an assortment of health issues, and Dr. Yong has always managed to address each one and always follows up. I appreciate the fact that she always sends me be to the best specialists (within the range of my insurance coverage, of course) when necessary. Additionally, she always advises me on what to eat and informs me on the latest «superfoods/​products»; it’s almost like she is my personal nutritionist too! :D
Some may perceive her as rude or mean, but I perceive her as extremely straightforward, which makes her appointments consistently efficient. If she were to tell a patient that they are overweight and need to lose weight, it is not to be mean, but because she is genuinely concerned about his/​her health.
There seem to be several complaints about her preaching. Dr. Yong is well aware of the fact that I am not a Christian but has never condemned me for it. I will admit that she consistently tries to persuade me to convert to Christianity, but it’s never overbearing. Her persistence about Christianity seems to come from a place of true concern about her patients’ afterlife, which I definitely understand after she shared her perception of the religion.

–I love the fact that she always creates/​purchases cute trinkets for each holiday to give to patients (regardless of age. :D)
Overall: goes above and beyond her role as a pediatrician (why do you think she receives awards for her service?!)

Dr. Caroline Yong is an energetic and caring doctor who deals with her patients with the greatest amount of care. I do not believe Dr. Yong is an evil person who forces her own religion above someone else’s or yells/​lies. I’ve been a patient under Dr. Yong’s care ever since she went to her office on Ocean Avenue. Whenever I greet her, I am always welcome with a wonderful smile. She understands and pays attention to all my needs as a patient. A wonderful person she is. Every time I have gone to my check-​ups, she always asks me questions without criticizing. As a matter of fact, she gives me helpful hints to take into account for my daily lifestyle. I love her charisma and she’s an amazing doctor.

I am another person who wishes I could give her negative stars. I met this poor excuse for a doctor for the first and last time. At the counter she was coughing several times and never once covered her mouth. She was BOSSY, RUDE and not only to me. I feel sorry for the poor girl that has to put up with this crap for 8 hours.
I did not get preached to… I only got the EVIL SIDE.
I kept trying to put up with her sour attitude as my girlfriend had asked me to.
After she asked a question we did not have an answer for I proceeded to call his mother
She began yelling «Hang that up!!! Hang up the Phone NOW!!! I don’t want you to call her!!!» I could not take her yelling at me in the small little room. I told the son come on lets get out of here. Then she began yelling «get out before I call the police»… when I stepped out of the room she slammed the door shut. My son was still on the inside… She told him don’t worry… he’s a jerk.
I opened her door and saw he was terrified.
He came to me and we left… After I got the copay back.
After explaining this to his mother she wasn’t surprised. She has known this poor excuse of a doctor for a long time and says she is getting worse and worse as time goes by. She will find a new doctor that acts as a doctor should… Out of care and concern and with with respect.

Dr. Yong is good at what she does and she has never gone crazy on me. I’ve been her patient for a couple of years now and she’s been pretty prompt with her follow ups. She is very understanding and when she «lectures» it’s because she cares. Dr. Yong is cool with making an appointment last minute aswell because usually its not accepted and you never have to wait forever.
So in conclusion give her a chance because she is very nice and not mean at all. She may seem intimidating at first but when you get to know her she’s a nice lady.

Highlights: Goes the extra mile with her patients. When I needed to be referred to a specialist, Dr. Yong was persistent in the recommended transfer. There were numerous problems with the transfer because she wanted me to be seen by the best specialists in SF (e.g. going the extra mile for her patients!), but the specialist wasn’t sure if he wanted to take on my case, thus Dr. Yong nagged and basically bitched at the department until I was given an appointment. Dr. Yong provides follow-​ups, ensures that patients return yearly, and guarantees that her patients receive the health care needed. Two thumbs up!

Being a longtime and continuing patient myself (since 2004 as a teen), It is unbalanced and unfair for a small biased sample of patients with a bad opinion to throw off Dr. Yong’s rating.
It is highly unlikely for the little boys and girls to write the negative reviews, but instead the reviews are authored by their impatient mothers who gossip within their social circle during canasta classes on Wednesday nights.
Sure she may be quite persuasive and informative on her beliefs of Christianity, but you don’t have to necessarily agree with her ideas. Unlike doctors with patient quotas for their insurance companies, Dr. Yong will spend her time (sometimes more than half an hour) and effort to get to know you and give you advice on how to be healthier.
I can see how some mothers feel that Dr. Yong is too bossy for their over-​protected child, but that’s just her personality and you shouldn’t confuse her good intentions for hatred.
O by the way, she’s too smart to be wrong for a doctor. If you don’t like the truth about your health, then she’s not right for you. I would recommend a politician for that =P
Credibility: patient since Dr. Serene Low retired (7 years and counting) and possibly Dr. Yong’s tallest patient.

Dr. Yong is very good at her job. No, not as a doctor alone, but as an educator also. I left my pediatrician that I’ve seen since birth because after him being on vacation one time, I was able to see dr. Yong. The reason why is because she doesn’t just give you medication and that’s it. She educates you on how to eat healthy which I believe no doctor does. Dr. Yong is loud at times, but, without her tone, you wouldn’t take her seriously. Even though I am probably too old for a pediatrician she still sees me and that is fine with me!

I’m not sure why Dr. Yong has such a low rating on Unilocal.Dr. Caroline Yong is hands down the best doctor I’ve had! I’ve been a patient of hers for as long as I can remember… since she had her office in Noriega.
Dr. Yong always follows up on us after we go to her. Not only that, but she was even willing to keep my brother and our family friend (both of whom have special needs) as patients even though they were well over the age of going to a pediatrician. She’s very understanding towards families of those with special needs and is always willing to help out by writing doctor letters to different programs for her patients. Trust me, my mother had Dr. Yong write letters to EVERY SINGLE program out there for my brother. In fact, my brother’s file is SO thick, it currently occupies it’s own box in a corner with 5 rubber bands around the files.
In response to some of the reviews others have left, a lot of my friends are also her patients and they receive the same type of royal treatment we receive regardless of their religion. Also, IMO I think most of the comments referring to her «rudeness» comes from her straightforward personality (like what Sabrina R. mentioned). Dr. Yong is a no nonsense type of person who is constantly trying to help more patients than she can fit on her schedule. I think because of this, some may misunderstand it as being bitchy.
If you’re in need of a pediatrician, you should definitely give Dr. Yong a chance. She doesn’t patients who stick with her for so long for no reason. If she were as «rude» and «mean» as others say she is, then why would her calendar always be filled with patients wanting to see her?

I’ve been seeing Dr. Yong since my old doctor retired. She is definitely not as bad as how the reviews are saying. She is very caring and knowledgeable. I remember I went to see her when I had a painful headache and she told me to get a full check up/​x-​ray at a hospital to make sure my headache is not serious. Usually doctors will say go home, take some medicine and rest, but she wanted to make sure I’m fine and took that extra step. There are not many doctors who are that caring. Also her receptionists would always call and remind me that I have a check-​up appointment the next day. And when there are flu shots and any other important shots available, she will have her receptionists call the patients and inform them, which shows she is very caring towards her patients. I also remember she always asked how I’m doing at school and what colleges I’m planning to go to and would give me advice. She cares for her patients and wants the best for them. I would recommend anyone to see her because she is a loving and caring physician.

Caroline is a very rude, impatient, loud person! She doesnt know the meaning of being nice & polite. I will never bring my daughter to this office!!! She has no respect towards others! Dont do business with this woman.

she hates me because my family isn’t christian. when she saw me wearing a buddha necklace she said something in chinese meaning“gahh why do you wear this trash?”. calling my religion trash is bad enough.
theres no privacy, she talks very loud and other waiting patients can hear you. seriously speak quieter, our personal information is nothing a stranger in the waiting room should know.
the teen staff are not good workers, they are quiet. they have no expirienced because they are only teenagers. they can’t find my files when i go to get a checkup. it seems to me the reason why there is a different teenage worker there everytime is because i think they quit because they can’t stand Dr. Yong .
she always keeps giving me those christian coins and bibles but i keep throwing them away when i leave the office.
EDIT: my mom changed my doctor so i don’t have to see her face again. btw if you are christian, do not worry. she will treat you like a prince or princess. if you are not christian, be prepared for this woman.

Today we were visiting my wife’s OBGYN in the same building. We wanted to get our baby looked at for possible jaundice, and decided to visit Dr Wong because our regular pediatrician was on vacation. We didn’t have an appointment, but luckily she was available. She asked a lot of good questions to understand our baby’s medical history, and was very thorough and professional. Glad we stopped by!

Dr Yong will push needles into almost as hard as her religion. She’s really upfront about everything and expects you to do everything she asks. Aside from that, I think she spent most of the time preaching how the only way she got through med school was bible study and Jesus as her savior and that nothing even matters after this life if you don’t believe in Jesus Christ.
She even gave me a Jesus is our savior medallion…
Oh and apparently Catholics are just confused Christians.

I miss Dr. Serene Low. She was very welcoming and very friendly. She also had real receptionists and patience for her clients. Too bad she retired before I turned 18. (For those who don’t know, Dr. Yong replaced Dr. Low.)
No stars for this woman! But Unilocal requires me to giver her one star minimum. Eek! Methinks not. Dr. Yong is a rude, pushy woman that talks way too fast and impolitely. She always asks about my religion since I went to a Catholic school. I say I’m not Catholic, and then she just gives me a Christian bookmark and pin. wth? Also, when I told her I was a vegetarian (now I’m no longer one), she asked why in such disgust and she still told me to eat some meat. Um, HELLO?! The least she could have done was to suggest tofu or something rather than to encourage me to go against my preferences.
When I go in for a check-​up and give her my physical (school’s yearly required sheet of paper with check-​up requirements), she quickly checks only half the list and with a pen. She doesn’t even do a full check-​up, but rather a half-​check-​up. Beware when she gives you shots — she’s not gentle with it. The office isn’t sanitary either; when the receptionists (yes, her teenage receptionists) draw a small blood sample from my finger and place the capillary on the desk, they don’t clean up well afterward. I see old blood stains on the desk that’s not mine to begin with. Eww! Talk about the possibility of wrong test results. Dr. Yong isn’t very punctual either. If my appointment were at 3PM, I wouldn’t see her until 3:30PM earliest. This woman and her receptionists have terrible time management. Good receptionists = good doctors. Clearly, Dr. Yong doesn’t even have qualified receptionists. Once, I saw one of them on AIM. Very unprofessional. They’re just high school teenagers. I’m not sure if any of them are Dr. Yong’s daughters, but I asked one of them and she said that she was hired based on her GPA (and possibly other aspects).
Oh, and has anyone else noticed how she doesn’t blink with both eyes simultaneously? Weird crazy woman. I’m not surprised that she’s losing business.

Wow, what a doctor. She is always rushing things just so that she can get to the next patient. She speaks in a rude tone unless she is trying to convert you to Christianity. In every visit, she will ask me «do you go to church now?» Once my brother came in with a bubble blister to get it removed, and her reaction was «ewwww.» Mature much? The retired pediatrician that once worked there was the best. Dr. Yong doesn’t even like working in Chinatown; my sister heard this with her own ears. Horrible. Sadly, I have go to see her tomorrow.

Dr. Yong took over my old pediatrician’s office when he retired. My old pediatrician was amazing, but Dr. Yong was anything but… my mom immediately called our insurance company to switch primary care phycisians for me after one visit with this woman.
She spoke to us in a very condescending tone throughout my check-​up and seemed very irritated by any questions my mom asked her. When I asked her for a referral so I could get some routine back X-​rays at Chinese Hospital for an appointment with my orthopedic surgeon later that month, she refused to write it up for me on the spot, and insisted that we had to come back in a week to pick up it up. Apparently, something was missing from my medical records and she had no idea I was seeing the an orthopedic surgeon even though I had been his patient for over three years and had been seeing two other orthopedic surgeons for scoliosis since I was twelve!
She had a couple of very unprofessional teenagers working as her receptionists, which probably explained all the messed up medical records — she had no idea that I had switched primary care physicians until she called my house six months after I had missed our next appointment to ask me why I didn’t show up, if that’s any indication of how updated her office keeps their patients’ records!
