I used to love this store because they sold Santa Maria Novella perfumes. Stopped by today, and was told by the owner that they are unfortunately closed for business. I can see why it would have a hard time staying open– it’s really nice, but a bit hard to find. And insanely expensive! Bye Carrots.

Rude, snooty service! I expect this in LA, not SF.
BY THE WAY, why are all the more recent, 2-​star reviews for Carrots pushed to the bottom of the list? Carrots must pay to advertise. They must need it.
Who cares that the overpriced merchandise is beautiful and fabulous?
Everyone in this store, including those two sister owners are cold and rude the night I went in for a special event.
Carrots has a little bit of everything, including a decent selection of Salt glasses. When I asked the assistant to price out the pair I was looking at, she acted like I was bothering her. NOT TO MENTION that all of the display pairs had scratches and scuffs. I asked if she could order a new pair for me to purchase, and just said, «NO.»
OK, so much for that. Every single location I’ve ever bought glasses would gladly do so. (So I found my Salts somewhere else)
I even wrote a letter to the owners the night after the event describing the rudeness in the store. And guess what, NO ANSWER. That’s right — they have bigger fish to fry.
So, forget the glasses, forget the $ 1200 pair of shoes and the $ 100 books. I’m only moved to shop like that when service is stellar.
Honestly, I’m really not moved to spend my time with Carrots’ hideous service.

I first discovered Carrots in 2007 and, almost 5 years later, it is still hands-​down my favorite spot in SF. There is truly nowhere else to find the kind of pieces and personalized service that Carrots provides. I can’t speak highly enough about this place other than to say that the owners, as well as the people that they entrust to work in the store, have impeccable taste and are incredibly talented and invested in helping people identify and evolve their personal style. There is nowhere else in SF that is comparable to Carrots, and regardless of your price point, this place is worth a visit.

So, okay, I am going to share with you one of my favorite stores… this is the kind of place that is off the beaten path for high-​end fashion stores, and when I first found it, it was a stumble-​upon, «what is THIS?» kind of find.
Carrots is located in the «old-​gold’ section of town, on Montgomery between Broadway and Pacific. When you first walk in, you are treated to the beautiful scents of Cire Trudon candles (candle-​makers to the French Kings) as well as the luxurious scents of products from the Farmacia Santa Maria Novella… But Carrots is a treat for all the senses. This store reminds me of beautiful stores in Paris with beautiful clothes, purses, shoes and unique jewelry all in a beautiful, calming environment.
The great and very friendly staff offer water (and cupcakes) if you are in need of refreshment. There is an elegant spaciousness to this store where you have room to think and look and admire the beautiful things they carry.
Don’t be intimidated, thinking that this is an overly-​priced boutique. While Carrots isn’t a bargain-​basement place– (one look and you will know that), I have spent far more for items in much less beautiful or charming stores here in SF.
Even if you don’t purchase an affordable scarf or a candle, etc., just to experience shopping in a class establishment with friendly, accommodating staff, then you must come to Carrots. It really will make you feel like a million bucks. And you don’t need a million – (though who doesn’t wish they did) — but picking up a small treat for yourself or a gift for a friend — it really is a quite civilized way to shop. I am a Carrots fan– in case it wasn’t already plainly obvious. ;-)

The collection of designers they have is really great, but the attitude you get if you are only «just looking» made me feel like I needed to leave the store right away. So, I didn’t have a budget that day. But I do buy expensive pieces once in a while, but I’ll take that elsewhere next time.

You don’t need to be a horse or rabbit to love this store! Located in what is now my favorite area of SF,(bird’s eye view of THE transamerica bldg., wonderful design stores, the best art/​architectural book store on this planet, cafes, and quaint cobblestone alleys) it is a wonderful addition to SF clothing boutiques.
I first saw a write up of this store in a Thursday Styles section of the NY Times, by the way, if you want a nice once-​a-​week-​treat without spending much $, buy the Thursday NY Times. It has all the great sections – The Arts, House and Home, and Styles. That’s my little secret for the day.
Anyways, getting back to Carrots, the store was wonderfully designed and had the usual high-​end designer clothing, and accessories. It was nice to see a large section devoted to local up and coming designer, Peter Som, whose clothing I absolutely LOVE but would have to inherit a fortune to buy a piece of his. They also carried interesting and unusual jewelry. I continued to the back of the store, and was surprised to find a nice little «treats bar». I wasn’t sure if you were allowed to take a pastry off the tray or order drinks from what looked like a bar.
I was hoping to get a little something for my cousin that was within my budget. Lucky for me, I found a nice selection of bracelets and bought her one. The nice saleslady wrapped it up beautifully and I threw in some of Carrots nice business cards and matches.
I couldn’t give Carrots 5 stars, because it is reserved for my FAVORITE boutique in the world– MAC on Grove St.
I would come back here again mainly because I LOVE the location and visit other stores in the area.
You’ll need more than the orange vegetable to shop here. That won’t buy you much. I think the boutique should change the spelling of its name to CARATS.

Thank God, I live on the peninsula. Thank God, I do not cruise by this store on a daily basis. This is as good as it gets for the ultimate shopping experience. Where else can I find unique clothing and accessories that I am not going to see everywhere else? i have purchased a couple of necklaces here (yes they were pricey) and get compliments every time I wear them. The owners and staff are extremely helpful and always gracious. I have sent many a friend their way and always the same response. What a great place to shop. Keep it up girls, you’ve got something rare going on.

I walk by here on my way to and from work everyday and everyday I say to myself, «self, you must go in there. pronto.» So, today I finally did!
Okay, lets start with the ladies that work there. SO sweet! They offered me water while I was looking and were all very friendly and nice.
Let’s move on to the actual shop itself. The space is so much bigger than I realized! And full of things I would really like to buy! Like that GORGEOUS $ 1400 purse! And that beautiful ring with diamonds along the sides! Alas, I only had a few minutes to peruse the store… THANK GOODNESS, otherwise I would have spent this weeks paycheck!
I will definitely return, and next time, I will actually buy something. Or many things…

This is a very well done luxury lifestyle store with a nice selection of mens, womens and home items with friendly informative but not overly aggressive staff. Stumbling upon Carrots was a breath of fresh air after visiting so many bad retail stores in this city.

Granted, I’m probably not their target audience: as in, wealthy and/​or willing to spend this much money on myself or a gift for someone.
$ 60 for a candle? It was one of the best-​smelling candles evah, but still.
They have sales, but much of this stuff (clothing, I’m saying) is hundreds of dollars per item. It just seems crazy.

Carrots: simply the best boutique in SF.

Carrots is one of the nicest shopping experiences I have ever had for a number of reasons. First of all, the space is gorgeous, though (sadly, a characteristic of most high-​end stores that cater to both genders) the collection for women dominates, square-​footage wise. But I expected that, and you should too. The staff are super nice and (this is something rare, in my experience) knowledgeable about the designers they have in the store. It is so frustrating when you ask about, say, who tailored a jacket, and all you get is some nonsense thrown back at you. Carrots people know. They’re happy to chat with you about what you’re wearing, what collections you’d like to see there in the future, and who tailored that Band of Outsiders jacket.
Which leads me to my most important point, and this one I can only say for the men’s collection. The collection may be small, but it is SUCCINCT. By which I mean, it is extremely well-​edited. All of the pieces they have could work together, and the collection is aimed at achieving a certain aesthetic, which is the way a boutique should be. The menswear collections are awesome, and they have a nice mix of staples and more eccentric pieces. The shoe collection is also awesome — those Quoddy moccasins are the jam.
As mentioned, you get a cupcake, which is nice because carrot cake is clearly the best cake, which this store thankfully understands and advertises. I haven’t visited in a while, so I’m not sure who they’re stocking for Spring but I’m sure the collections are coming in. Their sales are also excellent, with the whole store getting marked down instead of this nonsensical markdown situation like they do at Barneys. Sadly, they do not carry Patrik Ervell. Please SOMEBODY in this city stock him. Still heart Carrots, though.

My husband and I have been trying to got to Carrots for a while but they are always closed when we go. Luck for us it was closed Sunday and Monday, when we looked in the window there were 40% off signs. When we came in Tuesday the signs were 70% off. Which means we found some stuff we could actually afford.
This is one of the nicer boutique stores I’ve been too. The people are really nice and attentive but not pushy at all. I will definitely go back if only to try things on.

Dear Carrots:
I went inside today after seeing your beautiful window displays to and from work ever day. I knew I couldn’t afford to buy anything as soon as I walked in, but the woman in front was so nice and helpful, and your store layout was so beautiful. I truely wish I could have bought something.
I promise that when I grow up and actually have money, I will buy at least one article of clothing from you. Really, I wanted to buy things during lunch, but your 40% off sale rack is still out of my price range. I can’t afford to spend $ 1200 on that beautiful pink lace Peter Som dress, much less the $ 2100 it normally costs. I also cannot afford to spend $ 190 on those Notify brand jeans even though they were made of the softest denim I have ever felt… but they were also $ 360 regular price.
Carrots, I promise I will buy something from you when I earn a «grown up» paycheck.

I’m also gripped by an overwhelming desire to shove things in my mouth. Like penises. Or my fist. Or food. Why, I almost marched into Specialty’s and asked them for ALL their festive gingersnap cookies, oh toss in the fucking cinnamon rolls too while you’re at it, and you’re mighty fine Mister Pouty Specialty’s Cookie Peddler With The Five-O’Clock Shadow why don’t you come up to my office and see my etchings!
Well, instead of giving in to my baser desires, I’m taking long walks during my lunch break.
Yesterday, I found myself walking to Carrots.
Maybe I’m now breathing fresh air scented with the sweet smell of hyperbole, but I’m going to go out on a limb and say Carrots is the most beautifully designed new fashion store for 2007. There are many reasons for this: the high ceilings, clean gray and brick walls, the well-​placed clothes racks with ample room for browsing (are you listening, Barney’s?!?), the tasteful decorative touches that don’t compete with the merchandise for attention, the large dressing ROOMS (and I do mean ROOMS). But the primary reason HAS to be the lounging area complete with a bar that forms the heart of the store. Genevieve, who was a wonderful saleswoman, told me that they host many events — trunk shows, benefits, etc.
Excellent designs abound here for both women and men: Thakoon, Helmut Lang, Narciso Rodriguez for the ladies; Yigal Azrouel, Band of Outsiders for the men; Lutz and Organic Cotton for both. They also stock an ample supply of high-​end denims, candles, skincare, and some great artisanal jewelry. As with most boutiques, the women’s collection out-​paces the men’s, but Genevieve assured me that the men’s buy for the coming Spring/​Summer would be more sizable.
Oh, and did I mention THE FREE CARROT CUPCAKE. That’s right, bitches — if you’re sweet enough, you can get a MINI-​CUPCAKE, courtesy of Kara’s Cupcakes.
Because the only thing better than admiring beautiful clothes in a chic boutique is doing so while eating a carrot cupcake. Or, in my case, THIRTY.

Beautiful Carrots! Not your typical long, orange bunny bait. Carrots is a high, high end clothing store. It’s a beautiful space, with beautiful threads, and beautiful people shopping there. The boutiques around this area are known for being perfect. And it seems as if Carrots has lived up to the perfection of Jackson Square. Even if you have to drain your account to buy one piece from the store, it is worth at least having a look around. After all Carrots are good for the eyes.
I will give the store 5 stars once I can afford something from it. But if you’ve got cash, blow it here. And call me, I want to come watch you do it. The clothing is ab fab.

Carrots is a gorgeous new luxury fashion emporium (at 4000 square feet, it’s more than a boutique!) right in Jackson Square. The space is well-​appointed and welcoming, and the clothing lines — thinks Band of Outsiders, Rag and Bone, Helmut Lang — are displayed with a keen appreciation for retail science and layout.
Think of Carrots as a more chic and trendy sensitive Gumps, with clothing. Here’s to bringing some fashionable charm to an increasingly stylish area!

BEAUTIFUL STORE! My co-​worker and I stopped by after having lunch at Boccadillos just down the street. This is a really marvelous space and the owners did a fabulous job making it a true lifestyle boutique complete with women and men’s wear, jewelry, fine accessories, home décor, and yes, even a bar that serves carrot cake cupcakes (surprise surprise).
Designers include Thakoon, Alberta Ferretti, Nili Lotan, Rag and Bone, Organic cotton, and more!
This could be bad news for me because the store is literally just blocks away from my work. Retail therapy at lunch!!!
Make sure to stop by their opening party on Thursday ¹¹⁄₁ at 6pm!

Probably the prettiest store that has ever existed.
The beautiful entrance takes you down a few steps to absolute luxury. The chosen brands are really amazing, including Thakoon and Peter Som for women. So puuuurddy.
The dressing rooms are little private rooms in an adjacent area off of the sales floor, which the register and — yes, it’s true — a bar! Who doesn’t want a drink while shopping? I don’t know if it will be in use during shopping hours, but I imagine their private parties will be quite fun.
The shop is huge and full of really incredible goods. I love the unexpected placement in Jackson Square — right by the lovely Bocadillos!

So if the Grimm’s hadn’t done enough with conquering the baby carrot business (Grimmway Farms in SoCal), the daughters of the one of the famed brothers thought that they would carry on the family tradition here in San Francisco… well sort of… by opening their new 4,000 completely remodeled clothing store… called Carrots of course.
Sisters Missy and Catie call it a lifestyle boutique since it will carry a women’s and men’s line, accessories, jewelry, bath & body, and home décor… a little bit of everything. The store officially opens with their Fall line in October and will carry lines from: Rag and Bone, Goldsign, Band of Outsiders for men and Peter Som, Thakoon, Rag and Bone, Nili Loten for women… and they are slick to say the least… perfect for going out in a city where pimp casual rules!
