Best. restaurant. ever. Superb food. Superb service. Second to none. It’s closing is a huge loss.

Seriously one of the best meals of my life in the lower 48! I am so sorry that it closed. It was years ago. We met the chef. He sent out free appetizers and free desserts to all of the diners. It was really cutting edge. In fact most of the usual suspects on high end menus I first had here. I thought about it because I saw a cooking show and one of the chefs had worked here. I am not into celebrity sightings but in this small space there were several celebrities and the chef treated everyone the same. I can’t imagine why it closed. San Fransisco is a smaller city than NYC. But while it offers less in terms of quantity the quality of places like Charles of Nob Hill were better than NYC in my opinion. I am fortunate to have had the experience of dining here!

This is a very old review, I was there about 3 years ago, and driving past it, on a very steep hill I found parking was a little difficult, but they did have valet, I honestly didn’t even see the restaurant until I saw that guy in the red vest standing in front of a pretty discreet building. Inside is a quite and intimate atmosphere, definitely a place you take someone out for a romantic and quite evening, to be honest it almost felt like eating in a library, only people standing around staring at you waiting to top off your water the moment you take a sip. I mean don’t get me wrong I like good service but it felt as though if I wanted to have a private conversation I would have to include the waiter, hostess and sommelier. Well I am exaggerating a bit on the sommelier… It was a special occasion so splurging here on a fairly expensive nine course tasting menu wasn’t a big deal, I must say I am glad we didn’t do a wine pairing with it, they gave a massive amount of food already and we struggled to finish through it. On the whole though, the only dish that I really remember was a Foie gras dish that was served in three preparations, one in a Foie gras terrine with fresh currents, one with a caramelized onion and date on a piece of filo and the last one was a seared piece of Foie gras. It was a nice evening overall, dinner went about 2 hours, and the service while attentive didn’t feel to rushed. With all that food I’m glad it went that way, there was no other way I could finish. *Sorry, quick update, unfortunately I think this establishment is closed… I tried calling the number just now and it says the person im trying to dial can’t take me call… I also just did a quick Google search and found that they may have closed… Ill probably walk by there next time im in the area and do a follow up… I guess my review was a waste… dang.

I am the second review? Sheesh. This place reminds me of a mini-me Dining Room at the Ritz. The ambiance is very quiet and the staff looked like students from USF. Not open-friendly, but very good food. I absolutely loved the endive salad. The Sonoma chicken breast was cooked to almost perfection. My tummy was very happy when I consumed the chocolate gâteau with cinnamon vanila ice cream. Oh yes, baby. It was that good.

The dishes here are like art work, the service is great, and the food is delicious. You feel taken care of there.
