I have been seeing Dr. Hum for quite some time and most visits were fast and efficient. Location is convenient.

Dr. Hum and the receptionist here are great. Just happened to stumble in for an eye exam since I was in the building. She is wonderful. Got my glasses picked and fitted in no time. I will be coming here for sure.

I agree with the review from A.Z. I had to change optometrist after my job switched their eye insurance provider to VSP. Doctor Hum was one of the rare doctor close to where I live accepting this insurance. The exam itself was fine but still cost me $ 154 after insurance. That’s a simple eye exam, contact fitting cost and that laser/​glaucoma thing that costs $ 50. They also tried to sell me contacts for more than twice the online price.
I also argued that my insurance gave me an extra 15% off the contact lens exam. They refused to honor the discount, I had to get a letter from my insurance to get them to give me $ 22 back. One other thing that I found sketchy is that I never received a detailed receipt or printed contact Rx… just a credit card receipt.
Even though it was fsat, it was a bad experience. If you just need to renew your contacts, go somewhere else and get your contacts online, you’ll save a good $ 100. If you really want to go there, get a quote first so that you dont leave this place with a bad surprise.

I’ve been coming to dr. Hum since I first needed glasses. She’s always friendly and professional and they have a great selection of frames. She has helped me find the right contact lenses for me over the years. I’ve sent another person here and she loved dr. Hum too!

Same day appointment to get fitted for my contacts? And I walk out in less than 30 minutes with my glasses off and contacts on? Best eye doctor ever, for real.

I have really bad eyesight and am at risk of a variety of things. I’ve been coming to Dr. Hum for more than a decade and can testify… she’s the best. She’s really great at troubleshooting little problems like dry eye or allergies and stays current on new developments in contacts and eye correction which for someone like me is an utter necessity.
I’ll also say that she seems to uniquely LOVE what she is doing. I really think she practices because she enjoys working with patients and helping them see better. And I have to say I’ve never encountered that in any doctor of any stripe before.
Finally, as you can guess from the location and some of the reviews, this is not a discount operation. You will not get your glasses in an hour. But I can tell you that your glasses will absolutely be right for you, and if not they will work to make them so. And all that said, they realize that people have budgets and limits and are willing to work within them with no attitude.
Oh, and one final tip: she and her assistant run the whole show by themselves. So, they are not necessarily answering the phone every time it rings and occasionally will close for a day here or there. Call ahead and you’ll have no problem; they respond super quickly to messages.

Dr. Hum is terrific. She was thorough, friendly, professional, and took the time to explain to me exactly what condition my eyes were in and exactly what I can expect in the next few years as my eyes age. She is simply the best eye doctor I have ever visited.
Mary who runs the office is wonderful too. She’s professional and very thorough while still being super friendly and understanding. A joy to deal with.
I have not actually purchased lenses or frames yet so I cannot comment on that aspect of the office/​business, but both Dr. Hum and Mary get my highest recommendation.

I went to Dr. Hum’s office because it’s closer to my work than the other optometrist I went to. The exam was quick and painless, however it was way over-​charged ($ 85 more than my last exam). Later on I checked with my insurance and found out my plan covers more than what the the optometrist claimed it would. So I called the office, and she agre5 to give me back the difference.
Her quote on contact lens is wayyyyy too much as well. I went back to my old optometrist and paid $ 120 (vs. Dr. Hum’s quote of $ 240) after insurance for the exact same brand. That’s 50% off!
To sum it up, Dr. Hum is good at what she does, but even better at over-​charging me. So, I would not come back.

I just got new insurance that covered vision and had been having a problem seeing after 3 years of law school (more and more). Dr. Hum and Mary hooked me up. My contacts (multifocal) work really well, its made such a great difference. More than that, I had tried contacts before and couldn’t get them out on my own. Since I live alone, that created a difficulty. Mary didn’t give up on me til I knew how to do it.
The office is beautiful (in the Tiffany Building on Union Square) and I can see! Highly recommend!

I’ve been with Dr. Hum for around 18 years – and that alone should tell you how great she is. She is excellent, but so is Mary, her office manager. Between the two of them, I’m totally taken care of – Dr. Hum for my eyecare needs and Mary for dealing with every detail of the insurance stuff – in which she helped me save $!
I look forward to my visits with them and it has always been the easiest medical professional/​office interactions I’ve ever experienced. This is how a doctor and their office is supposed to treat you – and by «treat» you – I mean that in every sense of the word.
I’ve recommended her to others and they all keep returning, too.
Mary and Dr. Hum are the best and they make other doctors and doctors’ offices look bad in contrast. :-)

Dr. Hum is efficient and extremely good. Mary is super nice and friendly. They’re also very patient and helpful with frame selection (make sure you get both their opinions).
They really make you feel comfortable, and their office is in a great location and has a «homely» vibe. But the biggest plus for me, is very little sales pressure, unlike other pushy optos I’ve been to.

I had a very good experience here. I saw the reviews here and quickly gave the office a call. I got lucky and got an appt the same day since someone cancelled (or else I had to wait til next week). Since its in an office building it was a very intimate office with only one other person being waited on. Dr. Hum was very quick (15 mins) but did not hurry me at all. She’s just fast like that. My prescription was I guess complicated (like the intricacies of it) but Dr. Hum explained it to me in very understandable terms and if I didn’t understand she explained more (and not at all condescending or sarcastic). I like that! I highly recommend! Glasses selection I could not comment on because I ordered elsewhere (Dr. had no problem with that and nicely explained my options and how I can try to get VSP to reimburse me for the glasses I got somewhere else).

I’ve been seeing Dr. Hum for around 14 years! I am looking forward to my next appointment, so I can get some cute new glasses. They have a great selection of frames — thankfully Mary is really helpful at assisting me to narrow down my choices and find something I’m happy with!

Dr. Hum is wonderful. She’s been my doctor for years and I can’t imagine having to find another one. I was having serious eye problems a couple years ago and she was completely comforting, found me a specialist, and has always been really attentive to every concern I have.
Her assistant, Mary, is also wonderful. She remembers me every time and is absolutely friendly.
I have recommended Dr. Hum to all my friends who are in need of an optometrist.

I went to City Focus Optometry couple month ago for my routine check up. My experience was surprisingly… FUN!!! Everyone (fine, doc and assistant) there had good humor and ended up chatting with me the entire time! Of course, the exam was done professionally and good advice was given to me as well. And, I found the location very convenient.
«I need to find a good optometrist, so I can stop seeing the wrong guy,» I used to say. So far, it seems to be working. hehe.

Dr. Hum and Mary, office manager are awesome! Thank you to the one other reviewer otherwise I would not have found them.
Dr. Hum is very open and helpful for what YOU need. She’s easy to talk to and really got to know me and my funky eye problems.
Mary is great. She tries to make the best out of your insurance even when you have a subpar plan like I do with Vision Plan of America.
Both Dr. Hum and Mary are there to do their best for YOU. I sometimes forget that that is what doctors are there for — to help you. It was refreshing to get such great service with such knowledgeable people.
I agree with the other reviewer — the fame selection is a little on the sparse side but I found a pair that was great… if only I had better insurance to cover it.

10 yrs ago I was recommened to Dr. Hum by my opthomologist from the home town of Denver, and I have been seeing her ever since. The office is very low key and in the Tiffany building which has a lovely view. Dr Hum is a very casually dressed, great dr. who will explain to you anything you wish to know about your eyes. Mary who is the office manager is very polite and remembers the patients well. She is also very adept at working with your insurance company to help get the maximum benefit from your plan.
The only thing I would suggest is to increase the glasses selection (sorry Mary).
