Cupcake Cove

Loved, loved, loved these cupcakes! They were so light and moist. I bought 8 different flavors for a client’s office and they all loved them too. I bagged the chocolate one and it was to die for!
Will definitely be back next time I’m in SF!

My coworker got a red velvet and a guava passion fruit cupcake from Cupcake Cove to try out.
The guava passion fruit one looked promising since a lot of people seemed to be buying it.
Cake batter wasn’t horrible, but the vanilla was so overpowering. I didn’t expect a plain ol’ vanilla cake. I was expecting a guava or passion fruit flavor cake. The only part that tasted like anything was the frosting (guava). No passion fruit flavor whatsoever.
Oh and get this. The frosting was sweet AF. I barely ate it which is unfortunate given that, that was the only part of the cupcake that had any flavor.
This place is on a corner. Very small shop. Only about three patrons can fit without bumping into the walls so be careful. It never seems too busy here though so you shouldn’t have any problems.

Devine cupcakes with excellent service, John (the owner) was absolutely accommodating and the cupcakes were a hit at my party! Would definitely cater here again for my next event. I ordered the chocolate cupcake with mango frosting and vanilla with cream cheese frosting both were delicious but the mango extra yum!

I wanted to like this place, I really did. Boss told me it was a coworker’s birthday yesterday. My coworker said she wanted cupcakes and this place was the closest. This place is very small. There’s no room for sitting so you pretty much just order and go. I ordered 15 cupcakes. 3 of each: red velvet, coffee, mint, salted caramel, and vanilla. It wasn’t until after I paid that the person behind the counter told me that I can choose an additional three cupcakes free of charge because of their promotion going on which was buy 5, get 1 free. Wish they told me earlier so I could’ve just purchased 13 and get an additional two of them for free. So for the free ones, i chose lemon.
All of their cakes are either chocolate cake or vanilla cake. The flavor comes from the frosting. I got to try the vanilla and the mint. Both cupcakes were crumbly and fell apart once I bit into them. The frosting for the mint was overly sweet! I took one bite and had to scrape the rest of it off! It’s a pretty big deal for me to say food is overly sweet because I have a HUGE sweet tooth. After I scraped off the mint frosting and ate just the cake on its own, it was so dry! The frosting for the vanilla was a little bit better: not as sweet but had an overwhelming buttery flavor to it.
At 3 dollars per cupcake, I thought this was a pretty steep price. It wasn’t anything amazing, just average. If you work nearby and want a cupcake to satisfy those cravings, then i would recommend this place. Otherwise stick to Kara’s or if you’re down for the drive to Palo Alto, Sprinkles is still my number one place for cupcakes.

We got cupcakes from here for work for my birthday and got the buy five get one free special. I got red velvet, salted caramel, coffee, peanut butter, and mint.
I liked the red velvet (cause it’s red velvet) but I’d say the best one was the salted caramel (and my coworkers agreed). The salted caramel had the best actual cake and it was very soft and moist.
I think the presentation of the cupcakes could have been better honestly. The cupcakes were okay and good, but not impressive.

Soooooo great and moist and flavorful! The bf and I tried the standard favorites vanilla and chocolate– both exceeded our expectations. Delicious!

I think my office has a cupcake problem. Every couple of weeks, cupcakes just seem to magically appear! Last Friday, February 26^th, we got cupcakes to celebrate the Oscars.
I shared a Chocolate /​Chocolate cupcake with a coworker. The frosting was creamy and light, but I found the cake to be a little too crumbly and dry. I did only take the tiniest bite though. I’m not a huge fan of chocolate, but surprisingly I didn’t mind my coworker picking this cupcake. It was light and not too sweet with subtle chocolate flavor. All the cupcakes in our box had a chocolate base, so I don’t think Cupcake Cove offers a huge variety. From the reviews and their site, it looks like they only offer a vanilla or chocolate cake base.
I like that they offer cupcakes decorated for fun occasions such as the Oscars, but I’m more of a fan of fruity cupcakes. I wish they had more variety.

Great experience at Cupcake Cove! Got 72 cupcakes for student staffers today! Mint, Coffee, Peanut butter, Strawberry, Chocolate, Red Velvet, Passion Fruit and more! Great location and friendly staff!

Stumbled upon this tiny cupcake shop around work and was pretty happy with their cupcakes. I walked in to pick up two dozens cupcakes for a baby shower. They were able to decorate the cupcakes right away so that was great. They have plenty of flavors and I really like their salted caramel and peanut butter ones. They do have buy 5 get one free deal so it is pretty good.
This is not the best cupcake I have had though but it is pretty good.

I don’t understand this bakery AT ALL.
I pre-​ordered cupcakes to be picked up on a Thursday. I had to cancel the order on Wednesday — there was no mention of a cancellation fee AND because I expected the bakery to make my order fresh, I figured that the cupcakes wouldn’t have been made by then any way. Shouldn’t be a problem.
I ended up being charged a $ 15 cancellation fee. Because I wasn’t aware that this was going to happen, I called to bakery to see what the policy was. Apparently, I was charged because at the time my order was cancelled (on Wednesday) my cupcake order had already been made.
«Oh! So you don’t make your orders fresh on the day of.»
«Yes — we do.»
«Then why was I charged?»
«Because when you cancelled, the cupcakes were already made.»
«I cancelled on Wednesday.»
«Yes.»
“My order was for Thursday.”
«Yes.»
“So my order WASN’T made fresh…”
«It was.»
SOMEONE please explain what is going on here. How can you say that my order was fresh if you made them on Wednesday but I wasn’t supposed to pick up until Thursday?
I’m not hard up for $ 15 — I just wanted to understand the cancellation policy and if the orders are made fresh. A simple — «Normally we do make them fresh but in this case, we made your order in advance» would have sufficed.

The cupcakes are to die for! Definitely try the red velvet, mint, and peanut butter! The price is a little steep per cupcake, but as a once-​in-​a-​while treat it is definitely worth the price!

I’ve always seen the cupcake cove on my way to work and honestly thought the name was cupcake love, but my mistake.
The cupcakes themselves were pretty good. They were moist with a good amount of frosting on top but it wasn’t too overwhelming. I think the part I was disappointed in was there was basically only 2 cupcake base flavors, vanilla and chocolate. I ordered the guava and passionfruit and salted caramel ones and they both came on a vanilla cupcake base. Totally understand the business side of things but it would be so much cooler and tastier if the cupcake was flavored lightly and similar to the frosting. The two cupcakes weren’t bad; I just think that chocolate belongs with salted caramel more than vanilla does so that made me a little disappointed.
Protip: guava and passionfruit cupcake.

I don’t have a ton of experience with cupcakes, or cupcakes in San Francisco. When faced with the task of providing cupcakes for a friend’s birthday get-​together, I panicked when I saw that my work is within proximity to Cupcake Cove, Batter Bakery, Kara’s Cupcakes, and Miette. So, I did what anyone else would do in this situation: I went to what was closest to me, which in this case was Cupcake Cove. Having picked up one or two single cupcakes for various occasions before, I know that there tends to be a fairly good selection at all hours at their corner shop in the Financial District. My husband was a fan of the Red Velvet, but really didn’t like their Carrot Cake. For last night, I opted for a Red Velvet, Vanilla, Coconut, Coffee, Guava/​Passion Fruit, and Double Chocolate cupcakes for my friends. The general consensus was that the Vanilla, Coffee, and Guava/​Passion Fruit cupcakes were the big winners. I love their individually cupcakes boxes, and if you’re planning on buying multiple, they have a buy 5, get 1 free option! These are definitely not «out of this world» cupcakes, but they’re certainly priced a little better than Miette (which we all know to be delicious, but also expensive), Kara’s and Batter (who has a delicious Sand Angel cookie but lacks availability for cupcakes at their Embarcadero outpost). I would definitely come back here in a bind, or until I find a better alternative in the area.

Pretty convenient since it’s across the street from my office. I like that they offer mini cupcakes, and when you order single ones, the box they came in is pretty great.
Had these ordered for a coworker’s bday. the decorations on top are pretty decent.

«Cupcake Cove» sounds like a name given to cupcakes that washed ashore and were found by pirates.
Thought I’d try a second time to buy cupcakes for Blue Eyes, in an effort to impress.
What’s more harmless, and inconspicious then a cupcake, right?
Even better, I could mask my fragile feelings with dozens of cupcakes, since I was throwing party for someone at the office.
So here I was with dozens and dozens of cupcakes, like so many cartoon hearts floating out of my chest, and I present Blue Eyes with a special strawberry cupcake.
And Blue Eyes says, «Awww…»
Which seems to be the reaction these cupcakes got for our party.
I can honestly say that I tried the following flavors:
Coffee
Strawberry
Coconut
Chocolate
Red Velvet
They were all good, and tasted like their advertised flavors.
Why not 4 stars? Because they were just good, and not deliciously addictive.
So if I were stranded on a cove would I eat these cupcakes? Yes.
Would I set sail for here? Nope

Pretty good cupcakes at pretty good prices. And its right smack in the middle of Downtown. Get a dozen for your office. That really is all you need to know.

Overall there is nothing crazily unique, but they have classic and yummy cupcakes. For the icing is the deal maker. The staff is ways pleasant too!

I like this place. The owners are super nice. And the first time I went there, they were about to close, but they waited for me even though I only wanted to get one red velvet cupcake for CL. CL was SO happy with their cupcake. He said it was super moist and tasted SO fresh. I’ve only gone back once so far only because I’m too lazy to walk there from my work. But I know that if I’m looking for something sweet and delishush it’s my go to place.

Cupcakes are delish albeit a tad sweet. The cake itself is quite dense but not overly so. $ 3/​cupcake and they have a buy 5 get 1 free.
I usually see all flavors available despite the website saying otherwise.
