I got the Middle Eastern plate(I think what it was called) and it was pretty good but didn’t seem worth the price… my friend got a turkey sandwich and said it was good. I was a little disappointed because I was excited for some middle eastern food but they really only had about 3 middle eastern dishes on the menu and the rest was just normal deli sandwiches.

This place is magical. Great sandwiches, incredible vibe, lovely music, and the owner is one of the nicest people you’ll meet! I live the Chicken Breast sandwich on a fresh baguette. Tip: ask for avocado and you’ll have your mouth watering with each bite.

Its small, humble, yummy, friendly, inviting… plus jazz music is always playing in the background? Yes please. We need more places like this in the city. I feel right at home here.

Deli Pub is a great place to watch the world go by, with its cozy atmosphere and nice windows out onto Cortland. The food is good and they’ve got beer. Another review mentioned that it can take some time to get your food — I’m pretty sure it’s just the owner(?) working there, so give the guy a minute. Frequently, he will bring you out homemade roasted nuts or garlic gratis, so it’s extra worth the wait. I like Progressive Grounds across the street too, but sometimes it’s nice to sit somewhere chill and not have to fight for a seat or feel like you’re putting someone else out by lingering.

Trying to think of something redeeming to say. The music was good. There, I did it.

Been going here for sandwiches for over 10 years. Last month was the first time I went to Deli Pub just for a glass of wine with a friend. He was the perfect host. He brought us roasted garlic followed by hot and spicey almonds, and peanuts. It was all so homey! You can come here not feel like you’re being rushed.

Um, no. The guy was nice enough, but I’ve made better sandwiches drunk at 3am with whatever I could find in the ‘fridge. Just keep walking by this one. Pretty weak.

This place is awesome! Cheap, well made sandwiches, and a really intimate interior. Lots of plants and comfy couches. This would make for an excellent lunch-date place, assuming you could find a seat!

Cozy and interesting environment(get lost tracking and mapping the vines that are growing throughout the interior). Music(jazz only it seems) is too loud to ignore consistently. Service was a bit slow considering(including my party) 3 customers. Took approximately 30 minutes to get sandwiches(falafel sandwich, tuna melt) and drinks(latte and tea). Half of my latte was foam(which I don’t like but my girlfriend does so no big deal for me). We were amused by the fact that espresso drinks and tea are served in beer mugs. Sandwiches taste good, portion sizes are a little small for the price, could use some side to go with the sandwiches to make up for the price. Only one falafel per falafel sandwich! Overall though the experience was good. The food and drinks tasted good and the staff(owner?) was friendly and I didn’t feel pressured. Also get a chance to study the california roll if you sit at the window overlooking the 4 way intersection.

Came for dinner, which may have been a mistake — but found the place generally unimpressive. The garlic pastrami was good but sparse, and not enough to draw me back; the mediterranean plates looked tasty but skimpy. Service was slow and we were overcharged; hopefully it’s better during the day but sadly I won’t be finding out.

This is a really cool place. today was my first time there after walking by it thousands of times. Turkey club sandwich was big and delicious served on a warm baguette. Jazz music in the background adds a lot to the ambience. I will be back there, and next time I am trying the pastrami sammy.

Best part of this place is the small intimate and very casual atmosphere. Stereo plays KCSM, which is on my listen listen list. Plants, some which are overgrown cover the dining tables and on a war day like today you feel like you’re being served in a treehouse. What I wouldn’t give for the ficus. Beer is cold and the samies are hot, what more can you want on a day like today? Cash only and I’ll be back!

Now this is what Bernal Heights is all about! It’s your covered outdoor patio with comfy lounge couches and surrounding greenery that you go to when you just need to relax and enjoy a refreshing glass of something cold with a light snack. I LOVE Imad’s sandwiches… and though I know he’s known for his pastrami sandwiches,(I’ve only once had a bite of one and thought it was very good), I usually order his ham and cheese panino. Imad is nice and social so we always chat for a bit before I take my nook at the window with my chips and Orangina(don’t judge… for some reason that’s my refreshing drink and snack when I come here) and await my panino. It IS made to order and he IS the only employee so yes, it takes a while for your order to get to you but it’s completely worth the wait because it’s that good. I can walk here in less than five minutes but even if it took longer, I’d still be coming back.

truly unique space worthy of a lazy Sunday, more real estate is dedicated to the plants that Imad keeps than for patrons. Good food, unique vibe and lots of Jazz on the radio. Table in the front by the window is a great spot to take down a Guinness and a quality sandwich.

I read the reviews here and I am amazed. The reason this place is «secret» is because the owner(??) is so miserable and rude no one wants to go in! I went in there and I was treated like it was a big favour to ask for a sandwich in the middle of the day. It is hard to mess up a grilled ham + cheese but he did it! Cheap bread, nasty cheap watery ham. I suppose the price was OK and he has nice plants, but so what? Everything else about my visit was so bad. Such a shame because this place is taking up a nice spot on Cortland.

The Deli Pub is a Bernal Heights favorite, but only a recent discovery of mine. Being a native San Franciscan, it amazes me to find places this good and this local that I never knew about. My friend Rosy knows her food, so when she said we should go to the Deli Pub because they have the best pastrami sandwiches — I agreed. The plants that are over growing the wall makes this place feel cozy like you are in a backyard. We ordered two special sandwiches, Pastrami and garlic on a soft roll. Yummy hand carved pastrami, provolone, toasted with garlic — then fresh tomato, lettuce and onion added for that melty-yet-crisp-toasty sandwich. The only thing this needed was some mustard to compliment the pastrami. With our sandwiches, we had iced coffees that were so good I downed it like water. The coffee was aromatic and tasted like a Turkish coffee. Mmmm. The owner asked me how I liked this sandwich and I told him, it was 8.5 of 10 — but I lied, I’m giving him 5 stars out of 5.

Every so often you come to an establishment that is definitive of its surroundings. The Deli Pub is such a place. With quaint seating arrangement that spurns crowds and encourages nestled gatherings. The food is prepared based on your karmic comportment, that is, you get what you deserve. Apparently I deserved more than I expected. I owe a debt of gratitude to Deep C. for introducing me to what is now among my favorite hangouts in the city. Another true San Francisco gem.

I side with the 4 – 5 star reviews. We found Deli Pub while roaming aimlessly around Bernal Heights looking for salad, and have no regrets about going in. Sure, the food took a long time to arrive. Sure, the interior could be cleaner. But whatever. The hummus plate comes with whole warm roasted garlic cloves on top, and the baba ghanoush is non-processed, the kind where you can taste every ingredient that went into it. On sunny days, the whole room is filled with light. It’s a great place to sit by the window, catch up on the news, and enjoy a slightly slower paced life.

A warm, cozy spot where the room full of plants and the air is full of jazz. This is my very favoritest place to have lunch on a rainy day. It’s the most relaxing place in the ‘hood, hands down. OK, maybe not if you’re a germaphobe. Personally, I was raised by hippies, so dust doesn’t freak me out that much. That’s a requirement for contented patronage here, because all those beautiful plant leaves do tend to get dusty. I don’t trip on it, because the spinach pie with hummus is really delicious, the Mr. digs the deli sandwiches, and the fellow who runs the place is sweet as can be. One of the things I love best about Deli Pub is that it feels like a time capsule to 1977. With all the changes that have gone down in Bernal since, that’s a pretty amazing achievement.

If Sanford and Son decided to open a deli I imagine it would look something like Deli Pub. You could walk by this place a hundred times and never even realize that you could go in and get a sandwich. I know this because I’ve walked past it a hundred times(at least) before going in. I didn’t even think it was open because there are no lights on and any natural light gets obscured by completely overgrown houseplants. Once you get inside(and you’ll have to duck under one of the biggest ficus I’ve ever seen) you’ll find it looks like an old person’s living room. Kinda dark and sad with outdated and worn furniture. Stacks of old magazines, a piano and an eclectic mix of objects d’art. There’s a fish tank against the wall that is only 2⁄3 full due to, I can only assume, evaporation and neglect.(It’s a good thing goldfish are known for their heartiness and longevity.) If you look in the back kitchen you’ll see stacks of dirty dishes and just general chaos. Everything seems kind of dusty and greasy. Including the guy who runs the place. He’s a short guy with with balding greasy hair pulled back into a ponytail wearing a rumpled shirt with a tail hanging out the front and a button undone. Pants that are WAY too big. There’s a couch there and I wouldn’t be surprised ATALL if that dude sleeps there. Did I mention that he has a lazy eye? It’s too perfect. You come inside and look around and say to yourself«What the fuck?» Then you see this dude and you’re like«Oh, okay, well now it makes sense.» The reason I can go into such detail about the surroundings is because these sandwiches… take…so…long…to…make. You can hear him doing shit back there but seriously, 15 minutes… for a sandwich? And I’m the only one here? I’ve been here a couple of times and it ALWAYS takes a while. It’s not like he’s making souffles. Anyway, it’s a pretty good sandwich but you’ve got to really want it.
