Peter is the man! Fixed my car and it’s running better than ever. Even found and fixed things I didn’t mention. Definitely my go-​to guy going forward and will recommend to anyone who will listen. Took my VW GTI and he cleaned the carbon deposits which were causing misfires on piston 1 and 3. Also fixed the A/​C which I didn’t report, but knew it was problematic, as well as identified and fixed an oil leak. Peter has my full trust and he is honest and hard working and the results show that undoubtedly.

Peter did a great job on my honda. Fast and affordable. Seemed very honest and easy to talk to. I will definitely use his services in the future.

I paid $ 300 to get work done on my engine and not even two months later
the issues came right back. When I took it back to Peter, the owner, he refused
to go over my warrantee and yelled at me in public for me trying to explain what was wrong with the car. WHAT A RIP OFF AND COMPLETELY UNPROFESSIONAL!

Peter is the most honest mechanic I’ve dealt with. We have a Mini Cooper so it needs specific attention and I always feel like we can bring on our car and trust that he’ll give us an honest assessment.
Got our oil changed, he fixed our gauge and he returns our car with all the fluids topped off and air in the tires. Love this shop and would recommend it to anyone!

Our little Trucky has been making curious sounds. Thanks to Unilocal we found Peter at Discount Auto. He went for a test drive with my husb to detect the origin and when they got back, both agreed it was something in the tranny. Turns out Trucky needs a new one but Peter told us to just take our time to find a good used one and let the current thing break down. He also ran the diagnostics to get the brake light to turn off on the dash which suggested replacing a faulty rear ABS wire that had worn down due to previously large wheels. All in, we spent $ 140 and it was well worth it. He said it took him 2 – 3 hours of diagnostics to get all of the warning lights on my dash to turn off. Definitely going back next round of the tranny mission.

Highly highly recommend this place! Peter and Johnny are awesome. They are really knowledgable and help you understand everything that’s happening with your car. The prices are hard to beat, and they’re extremely thorough. This place will definitely become my new mechanic of choice in the city

Not usually a reviewer but these guys deserve it.
I went to Discount Auto Performance to see if they could fix a popped out bumper. Johnny, the guy on duty, was super friendly and fixed it on the spot and then checked and fixed my tire pressure just cause. In all, the service took about 7 minutes. When I asked how much I owed, Johnny said not to worry about it. He was so cool, friendly and helpful that he deserves these five stars and this honest and solid repair shop deserves all the high praise it gets.

If you don’t know much about cars it’s hard to trust a mechanic, but Peter is a fair and reasonable guy. I’ve taken my car to him twice and I never get the feeling that he’s overcharging me or doing work that doesn’t need to be done.

came here with my girl last week because her brakes were almost completely gone, i called several places and it was almost impossible to either find a place that was open or that would take a last minute appointment. I spoke to Johnny, not only was he super helpful over the phone he told us to come down right away and he would take a look at my girls car, we arrived and he saw us right away and told us he’d be done in a couple of hours, an hour and a half later he called us and said he was done and that we could come and pick up the car (whoever heard of a mechanic finishing early?) we got the car and not only had he fixed the brakes he had rotated the tires and and put a quart of oil in as well. he also showed us the brake pads that he had changed out and told us that there was still life in the front ones (an honest mechanic? go figure!) But all joking aside, he was great and a true life saver, if i could give more stars i would and he and Discount Auto Performance now have new customers for life!

Peter has been awesome every time. I’ve been back a dozen times over 5 years with 4 different cars for smog checks, brake repair, you name it. The price is always fair and Peter seems very knowledgeable. One time we had a door malfunction fixed and Peter found a nail in my tire while fixing the door?!

Once again, Peter pulled out all the stops for me — oil change, brakes done, even buffed out my oxidized headlights for next to nothing.
I have to say E.V.E.R.Y.T.I.M.E. I come here I am completely satisfied and as a woman am assured 1) what they need to do actually gets done and there isn’t any screwing around 2) I won’t be overcharged and given some BS lines and 3) His team is just as cool as he is! Hey Johnny!

So when shit starts wearing down on your ride due to normal wear and tear or you might just have a hoopty thats on its last leg but you wanna still keep it running… then its time to get things fixed and repaired.
I’ve actually been to Discount Auto Performance on several occasions over the last couple years. You know what, its a good spot to get shit fixed by a pretty knowledgeable and good all round guy. Peter, like everyone prior to my review have stated is a top notch guy that will tell you what the fuck is wrong with your car and give you some suggestions based on his experience what you should be doing to resolve the issue.
Pretty simple he diagnoses the issues, then give you suggestions and you give him the go ahead to repair it. I’ve had brakes replaced here a couple time, some engine issues checked out, and various other shit you encounter with an aging car.
Bottom line he’ll take care of your car and resolve your car issues. Prices are definitely affordable and won’t put you in line at Glides. Turnaround time is excellent as well. There is definitely a lot of repair shops out there to choose from but as a repeat customer this is my spot and could be yours too if you want your shit fixed by a stand out dude!
There should be more great reviews about Peter and his shop but I’m guessing people don’t review auto repair merchants on Unilocal as much as they do restaurants and the next awesome bar and awesome boring shit bla bla bla place to pig out and have drinks spilled on your shoes etc etc…

Peter is awesome! Fate found him. Car was stranded in front of his shop with a dead battery after a night out with friends. Next morning, as he was opening, I asked for a jump start. No problem. Sensing he was really trustworthy, I went ahead and had him replace the battery. Within minutes he had a new one ordered, and within a hour it was at his shop for him to install. He charged an extremely fair price for the battery and labor, and he was just super nice during the entire process. For someone who is really particular about his car, I felt it was in really good hands at this shop.

Peter is the man. My Dad started using him years ago and is a regular. Now, the entire family uses him. He never overcharges you or tries to sell you more than you need.
In fact, when I recently had an electronic problem with my car he fixed it beautifully at a fraction of the cost I was expecting. He is just an honest businessman, which is what you want in a mechanic.

If your car ever needs help, take it here! An honest mechanic is hard to find, harder than a boyfriend LOL. Like the other reviewers have said, Peter is the man. I’ve been taking my car here since 1994! I moved up here from LA and had a pimpmobile, a ’77 Buick Century that would constantly break down. I tried some hippie dippie mechanic place in Potrero and that was a total rip, they even made me go buy an air filter after I’d just unloaded a wad of cash on them! Anyhoo, I think I got a flyer on my car for this place and decided to try it out. I’ve never gone anywhere else! Peter is completely honest and professional and after so many years, a true friend. He’s helped me buy a couple used cars since ye olde pimpmobile and they’ve been great cars. I wouldn’t buy a used car without his opinion, he really knows what he’s talking about and will tell it like it is.

Honest and reasonable. He’ll tell you what really needs to be worked and then tells you what things might need maintenance at some point in the future, but can be deferred. Other mechanics want you to replace everything immediately.

Women are peculiar about who they let touch their hair. As a guy, only Peter Phan and his employees work on my car. Need a smog check? No problem. He’s got an honest guy. Need Body work? He’s got an honest guy. And all the hot green tea I can drink? Whoa

This guy is the the guy. Peter is awesome. As a lady, I understand how intimidating going to the mechanic can be. I’ve been here twice and have never felt like I’ve been swindled. I thought something was wrong with my transmission. Peter could have easily told me I needed a new whatchamahoozle. No cheating going on here. Just clean honest greasy car work. Fast too. He’ll call you about your car the day you drop it off.

Honest mechanics are hard to find, but this is a fabulous place. The prices are reasonable. You will get your car back from the quoted time frame. If you think additional work needs to be done, he will check it out and let you know if and when it’s necessary. Pretty cool.
