Combining raw talent and a youthful energy with the chops of a seasoned working musician, Andrew Laubacher is among the most versatile, in-​demand drummers in the San Francisco Bay Area, having performed live or in the studio with the likes of Guster, Third Eye Blind, Joe Pisapia, Peter Frampton, the Dodos and many more.

Andrew grew up in Richmond, Virginia, where his love for music started at a young age. He studied at Boston University before deciding to tour the U.S. with Guster full-​time at the age of 20. Since settling in San Francisco in 2009, Andrew has established himself as a go-​to drummer and percussionist for session work as well as live shows and tours.

As a total beginner to drumming, I feel very lucky to have found Andrew. I was looking for a creative outlet, and a way to be able to jam with others. I was a little worried that beginning drumming would be monotonous — but not so with Andrew! He gives a perfect balance of theory and fun, professionalism and fun, pushing me to the next level and… fun! Bottom line, he’s extremely well-​educated in his art and a hard worker, as well as a blast to practice with and learn from. I also appreciate the text reminders of next-day’s lessons, and his enthusiasm for the things I want to learn and get inspired by. He’s easy-​going and friendly, but makes sure we’re working actively in the lesson and that I come away with new challenges to work on each time. I’m surprised at how much I’ve progressed already, and I always look forward to our lessons as a bright spot in my week.

I started lessons with Andrew a few months back and it’s been wonderful. He was extremely adept at identifying my skill level and also open to and interested in my specific personal goals related to playing the drums. He’s professional, friendly, accommodating and super talented. Our lesson time was really productive and efficient and I always had pertinent, fun assignments to work on in between. Andrew is patient, encouraging and an overall pleasure to work with!

I have been drumming for about six months. As another reviewer pointed out, Andrew is very enthusiastic about teaching which puts me, a complete beginner, at ease. I need structure and Andrew does a great job of providing that but still makes the lessons/​practicing fun.

My first introduction to Andrew was as a musician, performing in San Francisco. His skills as a drummer are one thing (amazing), but being a good teacher takes an entirely different skill set. I am just a beginner and Andrew is able to break down whatever it is he is teaching in a way that make it easy to follow, and he knows the right time to ease back or push it to the next level. As another reviewer wrote, Andrew has an «infectious enthusiasm» that tends to give you a sense of confidence and makes the lessons a lot of fun. I would highly recommend Andrew for anyone at any level!
