History

Established in 2007.

In addition to Eli Zaturanski’s formal study of photography in Berkeley and Oakland — including apprenticeships with teachers who shot for Calvin Klein, Tommy Bahama, and beyond — he trained his photographic eye through extensive education in performance art, storytelling, literature, and video production. The unique combination of his professional training and personal life experiences lends a vivid and connected lens to the work he produces.

Over the years, Eli has done modeling, editorial shoots, events photography, and personal portraiture for events ranging from weddings, pregnancy photos, headshots and graduation photos. His specialty is portraiture — capturing the persona of an individual or conveying a special moment between a couple. His understanding of storytelling and theater frames the depth of his photographic work.

I only had a short amount of time to find a photographer for my best friend’s nuptials. After contacting several dozen photographers I finally found Eli. He has a quick email response time and he’s very professional. Unfortunately, the day of the nuptials he was already booked but he had a secondary photographer name Michelle. She did amazing on the day of and we’re very happy with all the pictures. Overall I would recommend Eli Z. Photography. Thank you for making my best friend’s nuptial extra special.

Eli registered an engagement party my husband and I hosted. The pictures were amazing. He beautifully captured the energy of the party, the happiness of the engaged couple and of the guests. Eli is calm and has a great pleasant presence — he seamless moved around the guests to capture the perfect shoot. He quickly delivered us the final pictures and we loved them. it was a pleasure working with him and I strongly recommend it.

Eli recently filmed a spoken word performance of mine and did a fantastic job. Eli was responsive, on top of it, and calm during the shooting and gave me the (very high quality) footage with a super quick turnaround. He also gave me a little advice on how to work with the raw footage and offered to give some guidance if I got stuck in the editing process.
Eli warm, gentle, and easy to work with. I’d happily recommend him to anyone.

Eli photographed my birthday in the woods last year, and he was both an AMAZING photographer and a pleasure to work with!
It was a bit of a unique ask, because my birthday was a hike in the redwoods with everyone wearing all red, so I wanted a photographer who would be willing to hike with us *and* arrange us in interesting, beautiful, silly, and otherwise compelling ways. Eli perfectly fit the bill — he hiked along, composed incredible photos of us, and inspired us to compose our own photos too! The result was the best party favor for everyone — a collection of stunning photos of ourselves in all red in the redwoods.
I would hire him for any event, and recommend him super highly.

Eli photographed my retreat group, which requires amazing skill to capture the beauty of silent practice without being invasive. The results were awesome and now I have timeless photos to use on promotional materials. I have never ever ever ever expected my engagement photo shoot to turn to this experience i’ll tell you that. i feel uncomfortable around camera, Ann photogenic and definitely wanted to pass on engagement Photos. my friend convince to give Eli a try and I did.
The sweetest Eli made me slowly slowly forget all about concerns, he made me forget about the camera, got me concentrate on my beautiful fiancé, calm me down and made me laugh through it. I was in different planet, thank you so much :)
He using natural light and as professional as he is he’s work looks effortless, seems like taking pictures of us was the last thing he did, we had fun together as a team.
I’m so happy and proud of my pictures especially when it wasn’t the only thing i earned from that photo shoot.
We already booked him as a photographer for our wedding.

Eli is not only a great photographer but a very kind and easygoing person who makes you feel comfortable in front of the camera. I must say that I never left anyone a review before, but for Eli’s work I just had to share the goodness. I needed a new headshot for my professional work as an economist in a local firm, and thought that will be a great opportunity to get some professional pictures not the way for fun. So I started looking for someone who will know how to create a professional headshot, but also have a creative eye so the pictures won’t be boring.
Eli was above and beyond my vogue requirements! I didn’t know what to ask and what to look for in a photographer, so I just went with my instinct and chose Eli since I liked his style. When we met it was clear to me that I made the right choice. Eli was just incredible! He put me in ease and made me feel comfortable right away. He was very good with directing me and getting my best looks. It was a very special experience in a way that I have never thought to expect from a photography session.
After our session he processed the pictures very fast and uploaded the pictures to my own personal gallery so I could access the pictures online. Watching the pictures Eli created for me was a delight! Eli is a true artist! The pictures turn out to be breathtaking! I never thought of myself that way, and Eli changed it for me for ever.
His prices are very reasonable and actually pretty low for the research I did. I’ll recommend to ask him which packages he offers. At first I almost took the lowest package to save money, but the middle package was much more worthy since it gave the opportunity to get in all the shots I wanted (or then didn’t even know that I want).
Shortly saying, Eli is a one of a kind and will give you his gift of amazing photography.

I’ve used Eli on three separate occasions for very different theater gigs. The first was for a play in a theater space with stage lighting. The second was a clown performance in a community center, and the third was a follow-​up shoot at a nearby pub. In all 3 locations the pictures Eli captured were outstanding.
Not to mention that he was super friendly and warm and brought good energy to all of the shoots. I highly recommend him!

Eli Zaturanski is a gifted and joyous photographer, and I would recommend him for any photography job — individual shoots, family, events and video. He knows how to make his clients comfortable so that he can capture their open, authentic selves, and his photos make everyone look beautiful and shining.
I’ve had multiple a few solo photo shoots with him and he has great, creative ideas I would never think of, and also made sure to follow my vision with his experienced artistic flair. My consulting firm hired him to photograph our board members, and he gave us great profiles of all our members along with professional and fun group shots.
He’s got this great Israeli-​russian accent that makes you feel like you’re in a foreign film as you pose, and silly jokes that make you smile. After meeting Eli you will probably want to be his friend, and he probably will be.

He recently did a photoshoot with me for promotional photos for my band. They came out great! I really love the work he has done for me.
Eli works very quickly and dynamically and is able to flow with many different ideas. He is a whiz with lighting.

I threw a Carnival themed birthday bash last month and had grand plans for a photo booth, for which I enlisted Eli as the photographer. From the beginning he was engaged excited and dedicated to producing quality work and the best possible results.
During the party Eli provided a combinations of photo booth and roaming photography which perfectly captured the fun and essence of the night. I was so glad to get him on board with my party as it would not have been as memorable with out his fine work. I was also very excited to see a live photo viewing setup at the party which allowed for party goes being photographed to see the photos taken in real time. This was an excellent feature and unique to any photo booths I’ve ever encountered. After the party Eli was very fast to edit photos and provide an excellent album of the best shots of the evening.
Again I can’t recommend Eli’s professionalism and enthusiasm more and would encourage you all to use his services… you won’t be disappointed!

Eli has photographed a number of events organized by the school where I work. I have observed that he ambitiously reaches out to every person in the room, putting people at ease with his warm smile as he catches them in whatever moment, conversation, or dance move they may be twisted in.
He also seems to uphold a very high standard with his work, from the click of his camera to the final edited print. I have been very happy with the photos that he has taken of me — many have become Facebook profile pictures, which is obviously the standard by which everything is judged now-​a-​days.

I can’t believe I’m the first person to review Eli’s photography! It’s an honor.
Eli is an absolute pleasure to work with. Scheduling was incredibly easy, as he’s very communicative and responds quickly to e-​mail. We met up at the school where he’s taking classes to do work on one of his projects, and while we had use of the school’s make-​up department, took a couple more hours to take some shots for my use as a musician.
I haven’t seen the photos yet, and will update my review then. I was thrilled by the experience of spending this creative time with Eli. There was a fluid communication and back and forth of ideas. He was very open to the ideas I came with, and any that came up in the moment. He presented any technical conflicts (lighting, framing issues, etc.), with a true air of professionalism. He provided lots of alternative ideas when something I wanted to do wasn’t quite possible, and had lots of ideas for shots of his own.
Most importantly, this was FUN! Shooting can be so tedious, and we sure were tired by the end, but the time flew by quickly and quite enjoyably.
