Elite Event: Down to Truck

Long overdue review, but another fabulous event thrown by Abby!
Socola Chocolate — Luscious and decadent! He enjoyed the cognac one and I loved the guava one!
Izzy’s Cheesesteaks — Fave of the night. Garlic cheesesteaks filled with tons of beef, cheese whiz, mushrooms and garlic. It was a good half and served alongside with shoestring fries.
Firetrail Pizza — Delightful margherita and pepperoni pizza with cheesy goodness and tangy tomato sauce.
Kebab Trolley — Delicious gyro fries!
Odang Udon — Wonderfully light broth and fresh udon noodles with veggies.
Calpe Paella — What you would expect for paella, with some of the crusty rice but not from a food truck! We even got a whole head on shrimp.
Bacon Bacon truck — Pork rinds… they were okay, can’t compare to the Filipino brand ones you find at the Asian market, or even 4505’s.
Lil Burma — Their tea leaf salad is always crunchy and perfectly balanced.
I also loved the beer on tap and the VitaCoco waters — more so their coffee! I got to catch up with Rodney, Matt G. and Kathleen U. as well as meet some new Unilocalers. Thanks for a great event Abby and vendors!

What a wonderful way to be welcomed to the SF Unilocal Elite community! My +1 and I were able to sample a lot of different foods from the food trucks. I was impressed with all of the different variations of fries and the generosity of the food trucks to let us sample their food. One highlight for me was the paella – but I can never say no to paella. Also, the pizza was pretty good. Wish I had more stomach space and time to sample all of the foods offered.
Also, I loved the Stella Rosa wines that were offered for tasting as well. I thought the Platinum blend was a perfect summer white wine — super refreshing with very clear notes of elderflower. It was very different from other white wines that I’ve tasted before.

Great to see Abby handling the SF YEE events just as perfectly as she used to manage the South bay ones. I had been meaning to check out the SoMA StrEat Food Park and this was the perfect excuse to make my way there after work. My +1 and I were greeted by a draft beer poured by Abby herself and we sampled some delicious chocolate.
Perusing the food trucks that offered complimentary nibbles to the Unilocalers in attendance, we chose to queue up for Izzy’s Cheesesteaks first. The portion was way more than a nibble and we were happily full after the delicious garlic & mushroom cheesesteak sample paired with garlic fries. We also tried the chicharrones from Bacon Bacon, the kabob salad from the Kabob Trolley and tea leaf salad from Lil Burma. Will definitely come up soon to the park to get some full sized dishes from the trucks.
My +1 was raving about the sangria that you can purchase from the beverage truck at the park. We split a pitcher of red first, then white. Perfect to go along with all the delicious food samples!

What an awesome YEE! With this event, the star was all the different types of food!
I was especially excited since I’ve never been to SoMa StrEat Food Park, and what better way than to go for an event!
Each truck provided a tasting, which was great because there wasn’t 1 truck there that I’ve tried so it was good to taste all of them!
Personal favorites were Lil Burma and Calpe Paellas, but all were delicious! Lines weren’t long so it was easy to try everything.
I also loved the wine from Stella Rosa (nice and sweet!) and the sriacha chocolate from Socola was surprisingly good (sounds crazy but tastes delicious!) Also Vita Coco was giving out drinks, and I was able to try the vanilla espresso coconut water (don’t knock it till you try it!)
Thank you Abby and Unilocal for putting on another phenomenal event for such a good cause!

I could not have asked for a better Unilocal event mid-​week. I could walk to the event, there were plenty of food and beverage options and my money went to a good cause. Truth be told I have been to Soma Street Food a few times and each time is always as if its my first.
With approximately 10 truck serving a variety of food options, even the most fickle of tastebuds could be satisfied. My plus 1 and I sampled the Margarita pizza at Firetrail pizza, which when we ordered it we thought we were ordering a margarita drink. Haha laughs on us! We tried the Philly cheese steak sandwich with fries. Sooooo good! Melted cheese, topped with sautéed mushrooms sitting on a soft roll with the most tender juicy meat. Was it the best Philly I’ve ever had? No. But it was good! Kabob Fries from the Kabob Trolly which has paper thin slices of lamb (I think), tomato, lettuce and garlic sauce. Amazing!
At entry we were greeted by our awesome Unilocal SF crew as well as two representatives from 826 Valencia. I am very much a proponent of supporting the opportunities for the youth, so I willingly and happily donated. It would have been nice however for the two representative to ‘speak’ about their organization and not just stand there with a pretty face. I did my own research, but what else can you tell me face-​to-​face that sets you apart 826 Valencia? Maybe next time…
All in all a nice event on a warm summer night in the city. Thank you Abby S. for bringing us all together for a good cause!

I can’t say I’ve ever been disappointed after attending an Elite event in San Francisco. Down to Truck was an exceptional event and we had the pleasure of tasting various items from the food trucks. I shall indulge in telling you about my top three eats…
1) Carne Asada Tacos — Tacos Los Poblanos
It was the perfect taco with the right amount of meat dashed with some cilantro, onions, and hot sauce on corn tortilla, I will definitely be back for more!
2) Gryo Fries — Kabob Trolley
Although I rarely eat lamb, the gyro dish was delicious! I really liked the yogurt sauce they had on top of the fires, it wasn’t too runny or creamy. Just perfect! I have to say that this food truck stood out in impeccable customer service!
3) Margarita Pizza — Firetrail Pizza
If you enjoy the charred taste of thin slice pizza, Firetrail is your go to.
I was disappointed by Izzy’s cheesesteaks, I think it was the cheese wiz that threw me off. Also the garlic fries had TOO MUCH garlic. Bacon bacon presented us with a pork corn sample, which was very bland and did not excite my taste buds at all.
Honorable mentions go out to Socola Chocolatier and the Sriracha infused chocolates! So unique! And Lil Burma for a refreshing Tea Leaf Salad.

Love the wine, beer and coconut water selection, the wine was especially yummy along with the chocolates!
The soma street food truck area is very casual, and it never one got crowded when we were there. Great to chill out with fellow elites and have delicious local bites.
our favorite was the mexican food trucks– the tacos were some of the best around we’ve had and we are mexican food aficionados!
Great that is supported a wonderful non profit organization even though they werent there, but we did make sure we tipped every food vendor as they work hard and they have to absorb some of their food costs as well.
so thanksful to be able to attend this event-​looking forward to more food truck events!

Fun YEE with a great sampling of food trucks! This was my first time at SOMA StrEat Food Park and I loved the general atmosphere of the place. Very casual, low-​key, low-​stress vibe. I actually imagined it being packed with people, but it never got very crowded or hectic, and I wonder if it would’ve been even more chill without all the Elites. Seems like a great place to escape from the busyness of SF and grab a bite after a chaotic work day.
This was also my first time trying the trucks there and I really enjoyed the variety of options. The tastings/​samplings offered to Elites by each truck were pretty generous portions so sadly I didn’t even have room to try them all!
Truck vendors included:
–Lil Burma — loved the tea leaf salad, which had a lot of flavor. chicken kebab was pretty good too
–Bacon Bacon — porky corn was solid but more or less just a corn salsa with some fatty, tender pork/​bacon
–Izzy’s Cheesesteaks — roasted garlic & mushroom cheesesteak was a little salty, but loved the garlic fries (with generous amounts of fresh garlic!)
–Kabob Trolley — beef/​lamb salad & gyro fries were solid. the meat was pretty tender but salty
–Firetrait Pizza — margherita pizza was pretty good but oddly salty for pizza
–Odang Udon
–Calpe Paellas
–Tacos Los Poblanos
Not sure why everything seemed unusually salty to me. Maybe I was just extra sensitive to salt that night, though my friend also agreed with me. Regardless, I still found the food to be pretty tasty!
As good as the food was, my favorite part of the event was actually the chocolates from Socola. Quality chocolate and unique flavors, and I could actually taste the flavors very distinctly! My favorite was the sriracha, though the guava was a very close second. I also sampled the cognac and ca phe sua (coffee).
Overall, awesome event! Lots of tastings and great exposure to SOMA StrEat! Thanks Abby for organizing as always :)

I love the YEE SOMA Streat Food Truck event, and I hope Abby makes it an annual event because the event, second time in a row, supported yet another wonderful nonprofit organization, 826 Valencia.
826 Valencia: If you like reading, you should check out the publications by the collaboration of the 826 Valencia youth. One of their best known publications is the series called The Best American Nonrequired Reading. One of the founders, Dave Eggers, also has a 826 partner organization, ScholarMatch. Down to Truck: I love the venue, and it is always a pleasure to come here to enjoy the food from various food trucks. The vibe here is always down-​to-​earth and picnic-​y. Also talk about perfect weather! My favorite trucks from the event were Lil Burma, Izzy’s Cheesesteaks and Calpe Paellas. The lines were not bad at all.
Thank you Abby S. and SOMA Streat Park for hosting an event with a great cause. I hope it becomes a tradition! :)

Was the event cool? Abso-​fricken-​lutely! Great spot on a great day. The weather held up for a bit on a normally cold SF summer day.
Good amount of food trucks and the wait wasn’t long at all for any of them. I definitely tried to taste as much as I could and I would definitely come back here again not only to watch games but to E-​A-​T. The Burmese truck was so good I even scarfed down the leftovers my +1 couldn’t finish. The garlic fries with cheese whiz on top was pretty delish and something surprisingly good since I almost always leave the garlic fries as is whenever I buy them. The falafel fries was new for me too and what a great combo to mix it all together. The mushroom philly wasn’t bad either but I felt there was nothing special about it either but definitely better than geno’s and pat’s in philly!
I only had a couple of gripes which I have to deduct a star. But don’t get me wrong… ⁴⁄₅ is still a success in my book but it just wasn’t perfect. Due to traffic I wish I could have showed up a bit earlier since I didn’t even notice any Unilocal schwag which I do normally find at previous events I’ve attended. I always find them to be pretty cool. But maybe it was because of my tardiness showing up close to 645pm. And for some reason the pizza must have been pretty popular because I didn’t get a chance to taste it after multiple attempts. I felt like every time I tried to taste it the box was empty. Not sure if it was bad planning by the food truck owner or not. :(
All in all, I had a wonderful time. My +1 loved it and has a greater love for Unilocal and the community. Thank You for accepting my RSVP and hope to see everyone at another event in the near future.

It was fun roaming around the Streatfood triangle (it took me a while to realize it was EAT food. Hey, I’m a bit slow before I have any nibbles).
We particularly liked discovering what little bites each truck was offering. Very generous portions, and we were showered with tea leaf salad, garlic fries, chicken curry, udon, gyro salad, cheese steak, and more.
I’d been meaning to check out this nook of street eats, so glad Unilocal was down to make that happen.
Great way to spend a hump day evening!

What a great event! SoMa StEat Food Park has been on my Unilocal bookmarks for a while, so when I made it on the list for this elite event, I was super excited. The food trucks here seem to be lesser known than the ones at Off The Grid, but that means shorter lines and new food to try!
Each truck had a Unilocal tasting menu with samples of food. All we had to do was show our wristband, and they gladly took our orders! My bf and I got to try something from every food truck… Except the taco truck! :(However, we absolutely loved the roasted mushroom and garlic philly cheesesteak and the garlic fries with cheese whiz from Izzy’s Cheesesteaks… Delicious! Other favorites were the veggie udon from Odang Udon, the squid ink paella from Calpe Paella (love squid ink!!), and the tea leaf salad from Lil Burma! We were a little saddened that Bacon Bacon didn’t have something a little more innovative to try rather than just chicharon (their normal menu looks amazing!!), but hey, can’t complain at a free event.
Drinks were generously given out in the red food barn. We loved both the Stella Rosa wines for their sweetness. The wine was like dessert, a cherry on top of a perfect event! And now we know what wine to buy next. :D
Thanks Abby for another great Unilocal elite event and for giving us the option to have a +1! My bf really enjoyed his first elite party haha. I can’t wait to attend more!

It was an unfortunate time for to be start my 21 day goal of very clean eating and giving up alcohol. BUT, fear not I still thoroughly enjoyed this event and got to taste the variety of flavors. Any event that has that much choice is always amazing. Thanks, Abby for making sure we had wine AND beer — you handled the keg like a champ!
First of all, the weather in SF has been beautiful lately and being at SOMA Streat Food Park in the warmth makes it that much more enjoyable. I started and ended with Lil’ Burma’s awesome sampler of the chicken kebot and tea leaf salad. The chicken reminded me of Nepali chicken curries and my mommy’s cooking so 10 plus points right there. Anything that reminds me of home is the best. The tea leaf salad was a little mild, but still so good I went back for seconds. YUM.
I also waited a long ass time for the Kabob Trolley. They were really backed up with the high demand, but it was totally worth it. Their lamb/​beef gyro meat is so soft and paper thin, but full of salt and flavor. Also, I wish I remembered the guy’s name who took orders. He was really nice and charming (shout out to YOU)
I heard really great things about Odang Udon and the garlic fries from Izzy’s Cheesesteaks looked and smelled amazing, but alas, it did not fit in with my 21 days of eating clean. I gave up Firetrail Pizza, so you know I’m for surious about this. No worries, I will be back for sure when the time is right to gorge on everything I missed.

What an awesome way to celebrate the end of summer (school)! I had no idea what to expect at this event, and as always I left high on life, taste buds begging for more.
Udon, tea leaf salad, prosecco, gyro fries… It was all absolutely delicious. Thanks you so much vendors and Unilocal team for giving the elites a special treat! And a little fundraising in the process? So. Awesome.
I had been meaning to visit the soma street food park for ages now, and clearly I have been missing out. I really appreciate the wide range of vendors as well as extensive seating options. And surprisingly parking was a breeze?!

This event was so fun! Great music, tv, great food and drinks, and great weather under the summer sunset! Also for a good cause! Couldn’t ask for more.
I haven’t been to SoMa StrEat Food Trucks in a while and this gave me an excuse to com back! The atmosphere with Unilocalers there was just great and getting a tasting of the food from different food trucks. The lines weren’t too long either!
The complimentary ones i tried were:
Izzy’s cheesesteaks– Very generous portions! The mushrom cheesestaek was so good. I haven’t had a delicious cheesesteak in a while. The garlic fries were very garlicky which i like!
Calpe paellas– We tried the seafood one and it was so good!
firetrail pizza – The margherita pizza was a little burnt but all the flavors were there!
lil burma – The tealeaf salad was so good! Better than most restaurants than I have tried. I want more!
Bacon bacon – Pork corn was interesting, however we didn’t taste the bacon
Other vendors – I didn’t catch the name of this truck but it served alcohol. We ordered the bottle of Strawberry Watermelon Sangria. We were so full and couldn’t even finish it! Very refreshing
Thank you Abby and Unilocal for such a great event! It was my boyfriend’s (+1) first event and we both had a great time!

I am so glad I was able to attend this YEE. I was pretty much bummed out that I couldn’t attend an event due to the removal of my wisdom teeth. I was ecstatic that I received a confirmation from Abby S!!! Even though I’m not fully healed, I just had to attend this Down to Truck YEE!
Our SF CM, Abby S. is the sweetest and super friendly! It was extremely sweet of her to ask if she/​Yelp could accommodate me. It was also funny how she could recognized me when I mentioned to her «wisdom teeth».
There was roughly about 8 food trucks at SOMA streat park. Each truck had their own tasting dishes. Surprisingly, some of the food truck items I was able to munch on. To name a few, the seafood paella from Calpe Paellas, the chicken kabat from Lil Burma and the vegetarian udon from Odang Udon. Out of the three, my favorite would be chicken kabat.
On top of the tasting dishes from the food trucks, there were chocolates from Socola chocolatier barista, wine from Stella Rose, beer and coconut juices from Vita Coco!
At this event, I ran into old Unilocal buddies, met my Unilocal buddies in real life and even made new Unilocal buddies! Also, it felt great to give back a little as well — 826 Valencia! Definitely made my Wednesday evening.
I truly felt like a VIP at this event held at SOMA streat park! Thanks Abby S. and Unilocal for throwing another awesome YEE!

I love SOMA Streetfood and Unilocal,so what better way to combine two loves into one awesome event! There is no such thing as a bad food truck here. From pizza to tea leaf salad to garlic fries with cheese whiz and udon noodles, there was a little bit of something for everyone. The select lucky Unilocalers and their guest were treated not only to a small bites from several trucks, but this event also had beer, delicious (and very reasonably-​priced) wine and coconut water samples. Although we didn’t arrive until 6:30pm (the event started around 6pm), we were still able to
partake in many of the food truck offerings, and also able to go back for seconds.
For those of you who have never been to SOMA Streetfood park, I highly recommend it. You will find the place to be a little less crowded than some of the Off the Grid events, and you really can’t go wrong with any of the trucks there. Of particular note is the Burmese food truck (burmese happens to be my current obsession — if you haven’t tried it, check out the Burmese truck here for a sampling of the deliciousness. You can’t really find Burmese outside the Bay Area, so get your fill here).
Definitely check it out for a date with the significant other, friends, or a solo night on the town. They also offer trivia on Tuesday nights!

AH-​MAZING. Great variety of food trucks and the tastings from each were all yummy! My favorites were from Little Burma and Odang Udon (that chicken kebab and the miso udon, YUM!). The lines were pretty manageable and I’m glad there was wine and beer to help with the wait! I’m also happy about the Unilocal gift with check-​in (I got an ice tray).

Fun event! This was my first SF YEE which was pretty exciting. Loved that there was a good cause for the event — they were collecting donations for 826 Valenica which is a pretty cool nonprofit with a great mission.
Event was a chill Wednesday night sampling a bunch of popular vendors in the Soma Street Food Park. Highlights for me were definitely the udon at Odang Udon and Calpe Paella. They were also serving up some delicious wines from Stella Rosa — probably one of my new favorite wines. Great variety of food, lots of drinks and despite there being so many Unilocalers, there was always seating to eat and chat with people.

This is my first Unilocal Elite Event of 2015. And I have a RSVP a great event to attend. There were several Off the Grid food trucks, vendors with snacks and brews and free snacks for this event.
Since I had a +1 to spare, I have invited one of my homies to be my «Bitch». «I usually don’t play that way, but I don’t want to leave him neglected!
Once again, CM Abby chose another great venue for an elite event.
