I’ve been a patient of Dr Gentry for many years. She is not only the best dentist I’ve ever visited, but I’d say she’s at the very top of all medical professionals I’ve had. Her whole practice is terrific from the hygienists to reception & billing. Dr Gentry cares. She offers great advice. Her skills are top notch. Her equipment is the latest technology. Also, other businesses could learn about customer service from Dr Gentry’s practice. I look forward to going to the dentist. How many can say that?

I have recently moved to San Francisco from Europe and finding a new dentist is not easy. I was glad to have found this dentistry — it is conveniently located in the Financial District and very professional. The wait for my first appointment wasn’t long. The atmosphere in the office is relaxed and Dr Gentry makes you feel comfortable (and so do her assistants). I can only recommend this place.

I would say I have a pretty high standard for dentists’ offices and dentists. Being in the chair since I was young, always suspicious of dental practices — have you heard the dentists motto Drill Fill and Bill? — yeah, I think we all have a little to be concerned about when it comes to finding the right dentist.
Emily Gentry and her staff? TOP NOTCH! I started going to her five years ago when I moved to the bay. Moved a few jobs and thus group insurance carriers and was forced to go outside of her network. So I tried two other dentists and I couldn’t do it. I had to go back. She is by far the best dentist I have found in the Bay Area. I used to work for a large dental insurance company so I’ve checked her out! Her office finance manager, VI, is AMAZING! It’s nice to have office staff who know how to Calculate out of pocket cost according to your specific insurance plans. Of course the office décor is amazing, they have super chill music. It kind of feels a little like a spa… Well, as much as a dentist office can feel like one. Check it out for yourself… I highly doubt they will disappoint.

Let me start by saying that I was recommended to come to Dr. Gentry by a coworker who gave her office rave reviews. The location of the office is very convenient for anybody that works in the FiDi. And after the first appointment I could say that this office is definitely worth the your time.
I’ve been going here now for almost 2 years and feel really great about coming into the office. I usually get a little nervous before going to any dental professional, but because everyone there is so warm, welcoming, and professional, I have no anxiety about letting them stick sharp objects and power tools into my mouth.
I have probably now recommended at least 3 people from my office who have also become regulars aboard the Gentry train.
I haven’t had a single negative experience here.

I was recommended to Emily Gentry by a friend of a friend who swore by her. I have moved around the country a lot and am weary about trying new doctors /​dentists due to some poor experiences in the past. I have learned to go on recommendations, and i’m so glad I did!
The office is super easy to get to and very clean. The staff remembers you (even though you only see them every 6 months) and I feel very comfortable there. Ive had cleanings and a few fillings. My teeth are top priority when I go there, AND the receptionist calls me before my appointments so i never miss it nor have to put it in my calendar.
They are honestly dentist superstars and I’m so happy I found them!

Let me start by saying that I was recommended to come to Dr. Gentry by a coworker who gave her office rave reviews. The location of the office is very convenient. But after one appointment, and trying to schedule another, I can say that this office is not worth the burden of your time, the inconvenience of your schedule, or the frustration of her office’s pure incompetence.
You may think that you can schedule your appointment on ZocDoc — but that is not the case. Every «open» appointment on ZocDoc is booked, and will inevitably be canceled. This will result in an e-​mail from Vi in Dr. Gentry’s office proposing dates to reschedule. You will then go back and forth via e-​mail with Vi — which eliminates the entire point of online scheduling and is tremendously frustrating.
If you are lucky enough to get an appointment that works for your schedule within a reasonable timeframe, you will show up to an office experience unlike any you’ve ever seen before. It begins with photographs of each tooth in your mouth (obsessive and unnecessary– perhaps, but if you question it you’ll be told it is absolutely vital). Despite insisting that you do not want the additional radiation from full mouth x-​rays, I was told that it was office policy to take them on all new patients at their first visit. And after over an hour with the dentist, I was told that there was an additional «consultation» — meaning the entire visit lasted 90 minutes. You think to yourself– «I’ve been coming to the dentist my whole life, and 90 minutes to get your teeth cleaned is way too long.»
Upon check-​out, you will say that your next appointment should be in 6 months, but then be booked for one in 3 months, that you then need to contact the office to cancel because most insurance policies only cover 2 cleaning a year.
And about that insurance policy, you may think that it covers cleanings, but then be shocked to discover that some of those «extra services» that Dr. Gentry insisted on providing (remember the photographs of your entire mouth?) cost you $ 70 out of pocket. You pay it and hope this nightmare will go away.
Six months later, when it’s time to get your teeth cleaned again, you look around for other dental providers but want to give this dentist the benefit of the doubt. Surely an existing patient would have a more streamlined experience?
You then are reminded that you have made a horrible mistake. After six weeks of back and forth with Vi, the «office coordinator» to make sure that you’re not going to end up with another $ 70 charge if you go back, and finding out that there are no 8 or 8:30am appointments for months, you settle on a 9am appointment one month in the future. You enter it into your calendar, take time off of work, and show up, one month later, at the appointed time and place.
You then discover that you do not have an appointment on that day. You have been duped. You are offered a variety of inconvenient appointments in the future but realize that at this point it is worthless to even try with this office anymore.
You leave determined to share this story with future patients in the hope that they will never experience the gross incompetence that you have, multiple times, with this office.
Don’t let this story be yours. Save yourself the aggravation and choose a different dentist.

I should start by saying I’m terrified of the Dentist. I’ve never had a bad experience, nor do I have horrible teeth, but who really likes going to the dentist?
I was having some really bad tooth pain for about week. Finally, after the pain became too great, I decided to find a dentist.
I’m so glad to have found Dr. Gentry! She is absolutely amazing. Her staff is just as great! So nice, so welcoming. I wasn’t there under the best circumstances, had to have a wisdom tooth pulled last minute. They made me feel comfortable, explained everything that was going to happen and put me at immense ease. There was virtually no pain when she pulled the tooth and even after the fact. Very minimal.
I will never go to another dentist now that I’ve found Dr. Gentry!

Simply said, Dr Gentry is AMAMZING!!!
While I can’t say I ever look forward to going to the dentist, I truly enjoy my time while in Dr Gentry’s care.
She and her staff could not be more professional, friendly, helpful, gentle, accommodating, attentive, caring etc… I could go on and on and on.
Her new office is beautiful and quite relaxing. The décor is stunning, the music upbeat yet soothing (no elevator musak!)
I trust Dr Gentry implicitly and highly recommend her for your all dental needs. I’m especially ecstatic about my Invisalign results, which have actually helped to improve the overall health of my mouth

Dr. Gentry is an amazing dentist. I hated going to the dentist until I started going to her. Her office is very aesthetically pleasing and her staff is great.
The work I have had done over the past few years has been great. My teeth are in better shape health wise and in appearance then they have ever been. Weather you need a cavity filled, your teeth cleaned, a crown, bridge or even veneers, I would not go see anyone else.

Emily is amazing! I’ve been a patient for a few years now and every experience has been easy and comfortable. Emily along with her entire staff are friendly and very helpful and accommodating when it comes to scheduling appointments and payment. I highly recommend anyone to visit Dr. Gentry!

Emily is the best dentist I’ve ever been to. She was very kind and answered all of my questions patiently. She was able to get me in to an appointment with short notice and my recovery was painless. PAINLESS. That’s never happened to me before! I took an ibuprofen every 6 hours JUST IN CASE I might be in pain. NOTHING.
The staff was so great too! They made me feel comfortable and at ease. They also researched my insurance before the visit and gave me an estimate before I even came in the door. That made me even MORE comfortable to come in for my visit.
Such a great office with a great dentist. I will definitely be back, and will tell all my friends to come here.

I have a pretty complicated mouth situation after going through a car wreck, and Dr. Gentry is the first Dentist I’ve gone to that I 100% trust to do the right thing for the sake of my teeth.
She’s incredibly caring, has steady hands and is always gentle. Both she and her staff are genuine, kind, and they truly seem to care about helping you with your oral health.
In addition, they help you figure out the insurance and payment systems so you can get the best bang for your buck.
Lastly, her new office on Sutter Street is gorgeous, I feel better just walking into it.
If you aren’t sold already, trust me, she’s fantastic. Now go get your teeth taken care of.

I’ve been with Dr. Gentry for almost 4 years now and I love her. Like many other professional services, finding a dentist you like and trust are essential. But luckily, I found mine! Dr. Gentry is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly and professional. I trust her advice and work completely. Everyone on her staff is incredibly helpful and responsive as well, from scheduling appointments asap for emergency procedures to providing reminder emails/​calls. And her new office is beautiful with state-​of-​the-​art equipment. I’ve recommended family and friends already and will continue to do so as I only have raving reviews.

This is a long time coming, I am REALLY thankful for Dr. Gentry.
The story of how I wound up at 220 Montgomery is not a fairy tale beginning, I had massive randomly onset tooth pain, fever and a sore gum for a month or more. I called my mom who immediately scoured the internet for me while I was working on a client and called me with Emily’s information and said she had made me an emergency appointment the next day!
I ended up needing a root canal, and since I was to be on a flight that morning Emily saw me, did HALF the treatment so I could make my flight, and rescheduled me for when I returned from my trip. If she didn’t fit me in my tooth pain would have been a real damper on my trip!
I am so thankful for Emily and the team at her office, they gave me treatment and considered all of my discomforts in a short notice appointment. I felt no lack of care or importance in their schedule even after being such a pain for them with all of my tooth problems, I had recently had no dentist in the city and needed a few things looked at. My problem tooth was restored by solving a whole gum problem that she figured out from an attentive exam, that I had a misfitting crown. Previously I had re filed this crown at least 3 times by my last dentist. She assessed my current problems as they came and tested and retested thoroughly until the tooth and its issues were addressed.
If that isn’t enough, she calls me to check in, personally, and emails me back promptly. She also has a wonderful staff of dental assistants and front desk!
I have since had a comprehensive, 2 fillings, 2 cleanings, a crown, and re treatment on a problem tooth that is an existing issue for me, she is conservative, caring, and thorough and I am grateful to have her on my side for future appointments.
I am also considering invisalign with her, and trust her judgment on all my tooth matters.

I went to Dr. Gentry at the recommendation of a close personal friend of mine who went to dental school with Dr. Gentry and now has Dr. Gentry work on her teeth. (My friend is now an orthodontist.) So the recommendation from a fellow dentist was a good first sign. I had been complaining that I had had a filling re-​done 4 times by another dentist in SOMA and was willing at that point to do anything to get it taken care of. That other dentist had used the RC word (root canal) at the last appointment and I wanted another opinion.
After an initial consult with Emily (Dr. Gentry), she did a few quick tests and determined that the seal between the filling and my tooth wasn’t sealed properly — a simple, quick, and inexpensive fix. She fit me in the next day and after months of pain, it was all gone. I thought it was magic. Turns out, it was just really keen skills in detecting what what wrong. Since then I have been back 4 times — 2 for cleanings, 2 for fillings. (I don’t have great teeth per stupid genetics… it’s been less than a year).
But I hope she never leaves SF, because here are the reasons I will continue to return to her:
(1) gentle and makes me feel comfortable
(2) walks me through what’s going on before drilling rather than during or after like most dentists I’ve seen
(3) new technology to show me what teeth are in need of help, and why
(4) i trust her professional advice — always sound and always knowledgeable
(5) her staff are fantastic — at the front desk they’re personable and know billing really really well and follow up via email, phone, and/​or text for appointment reminders. her dental assistants are good too. a new one just started right before my last appointment and i really liked her (sorry, can’t remember a name!). She did my cleaning and was gentle while still ensuring she got every last little piece of plaque.
(6) billing is easy and simple. again, her staff can give a quote prior to having any work done based on your insurance. (they say it’s not guaranteed but it has never been wrong for me)
(7) on time appointments that start and end on time (perfect for running over in between meetings)
(8) most importantly, she is very knowledgeable about pain medications during procedures. i have a condition where a slow metabolism is a frustrating side effect. because of this, Novocaine doesn’t always work (or is too slow to metabolize in my system for it to work while I’m still at the dentist’s office). She listened to my medical history and offered a new solution that works perfectly, and she varies different med combinations based on different procedures and needs.
All in all, I am lucky to have finally found a dentist close to my office that I can trust to take care of me and my stupid teeth.

This is a great dentist. I hadn’t been to a dentist in 10 years and finally decided to do something before it was too late. Everyone was really friendly and didn’t make me feel like I was an alien because I hadn’t had dental work in an eternity.

My hubby and I are both huge fans of Dr. Gentry. The staff is super friendly, accommodating, and always explain all costs without making you feel dumb. Dr. Gentry has such great bedside manner, always explains everything, and makes me almost, *almost*, look forward to going to the dentist.
My first visit was for my regular cleaning and x-​rays, which have clearly come a long way. Now, as each x-​ray is done, the digital image shows up on the computer, so I can see it in real time. Pretty cool. Unlike other dentist offices I’ve been to where the hygienist usually does the cleaning, Dr. Gentry came in, talked with me about my dental history, and did the cleaning herself. She has a very calm demeanor, which helps make the dentist visit easier.
I’ve been back to get a filling replaced and it was a bit unnerving at first because I haven’t had a filling done for years. Dr. Gentry really made the process easy and the hour went by quicker than I thought.
We’ve already recommended her to many of our friends. She also has early hours (7:30am appts!) which is great for those who can’t always get away from work during the day. If you’re looking for a dentist in SF centrally located to downtown/​Fin. District, Dr. Gentry is a must!

Even though I’ve lived in San Francisco for several years, I only recently started going to a dentist in the City. Sadly, for the first couple years I lived here, I went to my dentist in Berkeley (Go Bears!). Since I was tired of making the leap across the Bay for simple checkups and cleanings, I decided it was time to graduate from that dentist and move onto a San Francisco-​based one. It seems like a painful process, but I used ZocDoc which made it super easy. I wanted to identify a dentist in a convenient location and one that would take my insurance. Also, I verified the ratings through Unilocal since I wanted someone professional, personable, and young. I came across Dr. Gentry, and it looked like the perfect fit — conveniently located on the way to work, was accepting new patients, and read she was extremely friendly. I couldn’t be more satisfied and happy with my decision! I’ve been visiting her office for the last year, and she has been the perfect dentist — has appointment available during my preferred times (early AM), has a friendly staff, clean office, is very professional and personable, and does an excellent job each time.
If you’re looking for a new dentist, go no further. Dr. Gentry will be your dentist for a long time through her professionalism and friendliness. She makes going to the dentist as good as it gets.

I won’t bore you with the details, but I had several horrible experiences with dentists that in hindsight were grounds for malpractice. When I first found Dr Gentry, I was a wreck. I had an implant that had been botched and half a tooth that would randomly fall out when i was eating. Whenever I was around people I was in constant fear of it falling out and when I considered having it repaired I was in fear of trusting another dentist.
All I had to go on was that she graduated from UCSF Dental, which I was told was a good dental school. At the time (probably 8 years ago) I believe that she was newly graduated. I had made the appointment with her first partner, another UCSF grad who wasn’t in the office that day. I went on instinct and became Dr. Gentry’s patient.
She singlehandedly restored my faith in dentists! She fixed all my issues, and she understands that I *care what my teeth look like* as well as how they work! I cannot recommend her highly enough, she is an absolute angel from heaven :)

I will be the first to admit that I have not been a fan of dentists in the past. So often it meant going to some sterile office, getting your teeth cleaned with crappy polish and finding out that I’d need to come back again for something due to my sweet tooth.
But after several friends recommended Dr. Gentry, I finally made my way to her office and it was unlike any dental experience I had ever had. From little details like giving me sunglasses so the bright lights would not blind me to modern projection of my x-​rays and personal attention from the good doctor herself, all in all it made going to the dentist as pleasant an experience as possible
Dr. Gentry’s staff was also super attentive and friendly. And while I did need a follow-​up appointment, I am actually looking forward to the visit and making my smile white in 2010.
Anyone looking for a new dentist in SF should stop searching…
