Our language school specializes in ESL, TOEFL and University Preparation. We have small classes, great teachers and a beautiful building near Union Square.

Our school is also very fun! Every week we have game night and movie night with popcorn. We also have class trips every month. This month we went to Muir Woods!

When you study in our English program you will learn a lot and have a great time. Plus our tuition is very cheap.

History

Established in 1995.

We opened our English as a second language program over 20 years ago. Today we offer ESL, TOEFL and University Preparation courses to students from all over the world.

Our language school was opened by a former ESL student. She wanted to provide other students with quality classes AND low tuition!

That is still our mission today. All our teachers have a Master degree or are finishing their graduate studies. And our tuition is only $ 150 per week.

Manager

I have been working in ESL for the last 5 years. I taught English in both Shanghai and Bangkok and am currently working on my M.Ed. TESOL. Before teaching English I worked in business development for an international company in China.

I love working for English Language Institute because our school is small and we really know our students. I know they learn a lot when they study and we get to have a lot of fun too! My favorite part of the job is organizing school trips!

I have just finished my Toefl preparation course with teacher Glen at ELI. In these 8 weeks we went through all sections: reading, listening, speaking and writing. I must say I was very satisfied with this course, because Glen was always well prepared. He taught us many tricks in each section, we did a lot of exercises, not only on paper, but also using a computer. It is crucial to practice using a computer because that way you get used to read from the computer screen and also type instead of hand — write. Glen also reviewed our recorded speaking responses as well as our writings. Students at this course were very motivated; we practiced with each other at the course and also after it, we shared our knowledge, notes and tips from some online courses.
I also enjoyed free afternoon classes! You have to take advantage of them! I think I benefitted the most from the pronunciation class with Alena. Conversation can also be very useful, but it depends on what is the English level of people, who come to that class. I have also learned a lot at Business class and Rock and roll class with John.
The only disadvantage was small classroom in Toefl class and bad wi-​fi connection.
At the end of our course there was also a big picnic for all ELI students and teachers at Baker beach with a lot of food and drinks, which was a perfect conclusion. But the best of all is, I finally got my desired score on Toefl (96)!!!

I felt kind of lucky that I picked ELI to improve my English in U.S. after I did a lot of market research and several school visits. ELI tuition is fairly reasonable in the market. The teachers and management team are superior.
I think ELI is a great platform for non-​American people to prepare themselves to thrive in the United States.
When I was in ELI, I improved my English dramatically. I also made a lot of great friends from all over the world. I like ELI management team David and Ryoko, my Level 6 teacher Alena and TOEFL teacher Glen. I truly appreciate their support. It was an invaluable experience in my life.

After three weeks at English Language Institute, I realize that I am lucky to have found this school in San Francisco: competent and professional teachers, nice colleagues in the class, and a good price. If you need something or you have a problem, they always are available to help you and with a smile ! For example, the director of the school takes care of my bike in his office every morning ! And Glen, my teacher is always very motivated and patient to answer my questions. The TOEFL preparation is good as well. The other good thing is that the colleagues in my class are all very interesting adults: everyone has a different story and we share a lot of ideas. So, Thanks ELI team and thanks to my «class colleagues » !

I’ve studied at the English Language Institute for 3 months and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to improve their English skills. Not only it’s budget friendly but also the staff was really helpful and professional. It wasn’t just a school. It also offers some activities and events like movie night or picnic where you can practice the language while also having fun. I greatly enjoyed my time as a student and had so many opportunities to get to know the city. Best experience ever!

I’m going to be honest! At the beginning I thought the school wasn’t good. Two weeks after I began the process to enroll the course, ELI proved me otherwise. I had a huge familiar situation and David (the director) was really kind and helped me a lot and was so comprehensive with me that made the transition from my former school to ELI sooo easy! Then I just began thinking that I’d made a good choice by choosing ELI. And I wasn’t wrong. I’ve been here for three months and I have to say it exceeded my expectations. I’m leaving this week with mixed feelings; even though I’m happy because I finally culminated my English studies, here at ELI I’ve made so many good friends that I’m going to miss a lot. I’ve had amazing experiences here with incredible people. I not only recommend ELI because of its convenient location, but also because of its amazing staff and excellent class quality. The teachers are well prepared, really friendly and always willing to help you with everything. They made the learning process so easy and fun that you don’t even realize how much you are learning! I truthfully enjoyed my stay here and I hope you also enjoy yours!!!

I am having a great experience at ELI! The professors are a combination of professionalism and entertainment! Their lessons are based in pronunciation and grammar! They offer a free TOFEL/​conversation/​business class so as free coffe! No more than 20 students in each class and the staff is pretty friendly.

I’ve been studying here already 4 months and I think, this is the best school in SF.
Firstly, I had been studying in Kaplan School for two months before coming to ELI. It was good, but not so useful like ELI school. Kaplan school is mostly for tourists, but ELI school is very good for people who want to learn and to improve English for entering any University or for a job!
Our teacher in level 6 (Alena) is the best teacher that i’ve ever met. All our lessons are very structured, informative, clear for understanding and we have a lot of new vocabulary. Business and academic lessons have helped me to communicate with American business partners.
SO, if you think where to go to learn English, I recommend ELI.

I’ve been studying there for 3 months.
They have 4 classes for different level’s students. Teachers are pretty good and nice there. We have conversation class and TOEFL class for free after main class everyday.
There are many activities too, like Halloween Party, Christmas Party, Potluck Party,.
And the tuition fee is so cheap that is important for international students.
