History

Established in 1998.

Margaret Mitchell, CEO/​Founder and Dr. Patrick H. Bitter, Sr., M.D., conceptualized and opened the first medical spa of its kind in the country, Epi Center MedSpa provides a spa-​like experience to those having cosmetic treatments. In 2008, Margaret went a step further and re-​opened Epi Center MedSpa as the first eco medspa in the nation, receiving a proclamation from the former Mayor of San Francisco, Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom. Margaret also implemented the Centered On You Program, supporting local charities and non-​profit organizations in the Bay Area.

In 1998, Co-​Owners Margaret Mitchell, CEO/​Founder and Dr. Patrick H. Bitter, Sr., M.D., conceptualized and opened the first medical spa of its kind in the country.

Margaret is a nationally renowned practice management consultant who specializes in developing and managing aesthetic and cosmetic practices. For over 20 years, she has been dedicating her passion to bringing much needed industry leadership to the medical spa and cosmetic services field.

World-​recognized Cosmetic Dermatologist, Dr. Patrick Bitter, Sr. has been practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area for over 45 years. As a cosmetic dermatologist his passion is skin rejuvenation and laser technology. He began his work with aesthetic lasers in 1979. It is with this dedication and devotion that he conceived one of the most sought after procedures around the globe, the PhotoFacial. He performed FDA clinical trials for hair removal, collagen, and several laser procedures — all treatments that have shaped the industry today.

I have been coming to Epi Center Med Spa for the past several years and have been receiving treatments such as laser resurfacing and glycolic peals for my acne scarring. I have acne scarring all over my face and wanted to try the new Fractora laser treatment they offer and since I have had great experiences in the past with their other services, I wanted to try Fractora to treat my acne scarring.
The Fractora treatment itself is very painful even though the staff did prep me with numbing cream, the treatment is still painful! This treatment is not for the fainthearted. I was fortunate to have have Shippa as my treatment provider and she not only did a great job with the Fractora treatment she gave me, but Shippa talked me through the most painful parts of the treatment (under the eyes and around the nose areas) and this helped me to get through the Factora treatment in one piece. Thanks Shippa!
The results of the Fractora treatment were good. I would say 3.5−4.0 stars for the effectiveness of the Fractora laser on my acne scarring. After two months I can see about a 15% improvement in the texture of my skin. It does look smoother, but I know that I will need at least 2 more treatments to really see a major difference. The Fractora treatment did get rid of small lines and wrinkles and did smooth out all of the scarring on the surface of my complexion and my skin looks healthier.
The staff at Epi is always very professional and accommodating and I will be returning for another Fractora treatment and a deep facial from Kelly Ferante (shes gives deep cleansing, blackhead removal treatment and my skin actually glows for about 2 months).
Overall, I would rate Epi Center Med Spa with 5 stars.

I love Danielle. This is the first time I ever review and recommend someone on Unilocal.Danielle is really kind and gentle, she always takes time, really pay attention to details and very knowledgeable of what she’s doing. She took good care of my skin very well. Highly recommend her. Aside from that, she’s a good listener that makes her great in this field. Too bad this is her last day in the office, hope to see her soon and goodluck in her endevours!

Found this place in a magazine and filled out a consultation form online. Got a call from the spa next business day and they were able to schedule a consultation with me the same day at 6:30pm. I never got an e-​mail confirmation like they said I would, so I called back to verify and was told my appointment was at 6:45pm. Fine. I walked over there from work, was greeted by very nice staff and filled out paperwork. They put me into a waiting room with another girl in a robe, who asked me if I’ve been to the spa before, saying she has been waiting for over an hour. It was 7:05pm when I asked the receptionist if I was going to be seen soon. She said she will check. At 7:15pm…she tells me there is one person ahead of me! I told her I expected to be out by now. 30 – 45 minute wait for a 5 minute consultation?! I mean I understand timing issues occur, but it would be nice to let your clients know in advance! She asked me if she could reschedule me, but I was over it and walked out. Had they told me it would be a wait to begin with, I would have known what to expect, but they just left me there until I had to inquire. This experience does”t make me want to return. Please respect your client’s time, and let them know in advance if scheduling conflicts arise.

Do yourself a favor and take a visit here! If you are looking for a wonderful, professional, clean, and friendly Medical Spa– look no further! I have had many services done here and I am highly impressed with all of them. All the staff is truly concerned with you and your best outcome. The ambiance is quite lovely and relaxing with beautiful décor and a great pre-​treatment room that you can spa it up in comfy robes, hot tea, and mixed nuts/​fresh fruit. If there is any indication of the caliber of professionals here… One of the founders, Dr. Bitter’s was the developer of the internationally accalimed Photofacial. Go check out this wonderful gem and know that they offer free consultations in order to do so!

This was my first time here and everything from when I walked in the door to leaving was amazing! Vanessa greeted me at the front desk politely as I was hoping for, she even made me a cup of tea as she gave me a thorough tour of the spa (beautiful by the way) and walked me to the lounge where i waited for Mel to do my facial. She was very pleasant and helpful as she answered all of the questions I had, recommending the products that she used on me during my facial. I can’t wait to use them at home! During my facial she made sure I was doing okay especially the bacteria removing part and I loved that! I even told her I had a kink in my neck and she rubbed that out for a long while, I was in heaven! It’s safe to say I will most definitely be coming back here for my next facial! Thank you ladies for making my first time facial experience so welcoming!

So I wrote my first review of Epi Center back in 2008. All these years later I’m still a completely satisfied client. Epi Center is by far the best Med Spa in SF. The staff is completely professional and the nicest group, the environment is lovely.
Most importantly, the quality of services provided is as good as it gets. I can’t say enough about Epi Center.

Dr. Misle is a wonderful lady. She treats each patient as of her top priority. She listens and is very competent .
I’ve had a wonderful experience with fillers, and her artistic eye.
If you follow her advice you’ll have a lifelong youthful skin.

I have been going to this place for about 5 – 6 years. When I lived in San Francisco I did go there very frequently, and now that I live in Walnut Creek, I still made sure to make it there at least once a year because I really loved the customer service and their services… up until a few days ago. I received a phone call about an outstanding bill that is about to go into collections! I never have any outstanding bills anywhere! It was for a HCG treatment I received in June 2015 for the blood test they did at a lab they partner with upstairs of their building. This was my second HCG treatment with them and I asked the nurse if the blood test was covered and she said yes. She even put the billing address as their office address and that is the reason why I haven’t billed and they were trying to get a hold of me. I was hoping the situation would get resolved and the front desk person said she would talk to the managers. She didn’t call me back the next day and when I called her she said I have to call the lab and figure out something with them. I am super frustrated with all this. The bill is over $ 300 and nothing was discussed with me! If I knew I had to pay over $ 300 on top of the HCG plan I would never have done that.
I am very sad about how I am being treated about this matter, very unprofessional and cold.
The bad thing is also I still have credit with that spa and after this I don’t even want to go there anymore.
I am still waiting on a call back from the management team because I was not allowed to talk to them but have been told they would call me.
My friend recommended that place years ago and every since I referred at least 8 people. A big mistake!

I really like the space. They use the best
products and I love that there is an array of skin specialists on staff. I had micro needling, and while I think I need a few more treatments to really get rid of my mild acne scars, I can see that it works. The customer service here is fantastic, and I do find myself looking for excuses to come in :)

I had a great experience at Epicenter with Shilpa Vichare. I came in for evaluation of small rash on my face. Not only did she take the time to listen to my concerns, she examined me and then took the time to explain how the cream she had prescribed was going to work. It was comforting that she was honest in saying that the cream may not fully work and that I may require further treatment. Thankfully I didn’t. My initial interaction with her prompted me seeking some of their facial treatments. I have been very happy and looking forward to recommending friends there.

I have literally found the ‘FOUNTAIN of YOUTH” at EPI Center MedSpa!!!
I have been coming here since last year for an array of skin care services and products. Every single staff member I’ve encountered is WARM, FRIENDLY, PROFESSIONAL, HIGHLY KNOWLEDGABLE and TALENTED at what they do! They take pride in their work, love what they do and it shows!
Since moving to San Francisco a few years ago, I’ve tried a number of skin care places, but EPI Center Med Spa is truly «THE BEST»!!! I get the sweetest compliments everywhere I go and I have been referring everyone I know to come here and get pampered! Thank you! Thank you for outstanding service!

I love Pernella, she may be the most wonderful person in the world to be around. Energy and fun is infectious. I JUST LOVE HER! She’s somehow always standing right there when I walk in… I’m so lucky.
Then, theres Danielle. I FREAKING LOVE HER TOO! She is a magician.
She and I worked hard for my wedding skin and of course I looked glowing. I’ve had a zillion facials at a zillion spas and med-​spas, and nothing was as effective as the blue light therapy and derma-​planing with Danielle. 100% recommend.

I have getting my laser hair removal treatments and micro needling with Shilpa, and she is awesome, she takes time to explain everything, I have a low threshold to pain, but I have always felt very comfortable with Shilpa’s technical skills. I would give a 5 star, the only reason am taking 1 star is offer is related to the front desk service.

I have been in the Beauty Business in LA for almost 40 years and moved to San Francisco the beginning of 2015. I had been looking for an upscale Medi Spa close to my new home. I couldn’t be happier with the staff and services at Epi.

I know people say this all the time, but truly, I’m not the kind of person to leave a negative review for anything (seriously, I had to create a Unilocal account to do this), but I was really upset with my experience at Epi Med Spa.
I went in to see Dr. Vichare in August for a rash that was appearing on my chin. I had done some research before and told her what I thought it was, and she kind of dismissed it and gave me a small amount of cream without really explaining what it was. Concerned that it was a steroid that could make it worse (per my online research — I know, I know, I’m a doctor’s worst nightmare but still), I wrote her an email (an email to the generic office inbox, because the card she gave me had no contact info on it) asking if she could let me know what I was using, and she never wrote back. To my own fault, I decided to just suck it up and use it and see what happened.
Okay, so now the confusing part. The cream worked! At first. And then I ran out, and then the rash came back with a vengance. So I called Dr. Vichare. Three times. In 2 ½ days. I left 3 messages. She never once called me back. I got the runaround from the front desk every single time. «Oh she’ll call you back by end of day, I promise!» At this point, I just wanted to figure out what was wrong, so I made a new appointment somewhere else, where the doctor confirmed that the rash is what I originally thought, the steroids made it worse, and now I have to go on oral medication.
I don’t necessarily blame Dr. Vichare for the misdiagnosis. From what I’ve read, this rash is easy to interpret as something else. But what I am upset about is her complete unwillingness to listen to me, and her lack of responsiveness to a patient that simply wanted help dealing with an ailment. When someone is dealing with some kind of ailment, it’s incredibly stressful — sure, it’s a rash on my face. Not like I was dying. But it was uncomfortable and embarrassing, and all I wanted was a doctor who would listen to me, consider my perspective, and help me find something that would cure it.
