I came back from school in SoCal and was only in the city for a day, they were able to get me in and out within a reasonable amount of time. If you’re like me and scared of getting your eyes checked, Dr. Kwong friendly disposition helps ease your fears. Overall, a great experience!

I think Dr. Kwong is the only optometrist I’ve ever had, and I’ve been coming to her since 2002! Am I loyal client? Yes, of course. I’ve been wearing glasses since the 4^th grade and contacts since 9^th. I’ve only ever work 2 brands of contacts because Dr. Kwong recommended the perfect brand for me; I only switched to the 2^nd brand because the first brand was discontinued.
Dr. Kwong is very personable, attentive, and great with my questions. They have a huge Chinese client base so you’ll often find the other workers speaking in diff dialects – Cantonese, Mandarin, and Toishanese. My mom speaks Cantonese, or Chinglish when she feels like it, so having bilingual workers is sooo helpful!

I went here to correct my bent frame last saturday, the skinny dark older woman who was playing her phone seemed very reluctant to help me. She warned if I break it, I am not responsible. Then I asked if the certain features of lens are available. She snapped: no. I said ur accent sounds familia, r u from taushan? she gave me an evil stare then walked into another room. So rude. It seems to me she hates the job. If that’s the case, go home !

This is the second time I been there. The service is good. The doctor helped me checked my eyes carefully. And they gave me a fee solution help me clean my glasses.

I am very appreciating to all the staffs that helped me. During the whole experience in eye studio, I felt very comfortable because Dr. Kwong was nice and all the office staffs were helpful. They helped me choose frame and the lenses I needed to offer convenience in my daily activities. They have various updated frames. Very professional services and I enjoyed my visit to eye studio. Will be back for my next general exam.

My family and I have been going to Eye Studio for a few years for eye glasses and contacts. Dr Kwong and her staff worked with our insurance and was able to get what we needed without any hiccups. Very professional and helpful. My daughter with «discriminating taste» always finds something she loves and gets compliments at school. Recently when her glasses broke during a sporting event, Dr. Kwong was able to provide a new frame and lens within 24 hours as a courtesy. Now that’s service. Would give them six stars if I could. Would definitely recommend this to family and friends.

Its been over a years since I got my last pair of glasses here. Dr. Kwong is still as friendly as ever and no generation gap between our conversation. And the staff are actually very friendly and helpful too. Instead of up selling me, they actually told me what I don’t need. They were able to lower my price by A LOT!. I was very satisfied. Oh! Make sure you call about their 2 hr free parking! If you ain’t picky and indecisive you will be in and out in less than an hr and have plenty of time to walk around Chinatown and get some dim sum like I did!

This is one of the few optometry I would go to get my vision checked. The staffs and doctor were extremely nice, genuine and very professional. Any questions that I have regarding about my vision were very well explained by Dr. Kwong. She’s one of the best in her field and has experience in what she does. Besides her experience, she’s very well-​mannered, nice, and very prompt in terms of tending to her patient’s needs and request. I would definitely come again for my next check up.

Small little place to get an eye exam or get glasses/​contacts located in Chinatown. If you’re getting an eye exam, they will validate up to 2hours for the parking garage (I’m not sure if it’s for all the garages nearby like Vallejo, North Beach ones. But definitely worked for Portsmouth)
The last & only time I went to the eye doctor was whenever I was 15yrs old. (wow…almost 10yrs ago?! Now you can guess my age =P) So it’s about damn time I go get my eyes checked & get a pair of new glasses. I normally do not wear glasses cause I do think I see finely without them, but lately (maybe bc I’m getting older & my job requires alot of eye energy) my eyes feel tired/​weird so I thought of getting new glasses.
We didn’t make an appointment so the wait til was about almost an hour. The doc was friendly & informative. They have a pretty good selection of different glasses to choose from. I ended up going with a black rimmed AX pair of glasses. I would just wear these glasses whenever I’m working.
I know I would never go with contacts cause I’m deathly scared of it. I used to watch my cousin put in contacts in her eyes & it definitely scared me. So nope.

Wow, this place can really hurt your wallet even when you have vision insurance (VSP insurance), I had to paid co pay for everything from the exam (extra $ 10) to the eyeglasses frame (extra $ 15) and they kind of force me to get the nicest lenses for my eyeglasses (another extra $ 70). Funny thing is that when I asked about the $ 70 lenses (the «nicest» according to the staff), what does it include and what is the differences between the $ 70 lenses vs the $ 60 and $ 50, she couldnt tell me anything but that it was the «nicest» one. I dont need the nicest one, lady, I need the ones that benefit me the most. So she took out a binder and just gave me a list of 3 different lenses, and told me to look at the list to see what $ 70 lenses were included.
My vision insurance covers me with $ 120 for the frames, and none of the frames there looks decent, and their brand name (D&G, Gucci, Prada, etc) ones were over $ 200. So in the end I had to pay out of my pocket (extra $ 200). I felt so ripped off, I even told the optical staff that I found some frames online that were at least 75% less than what they had in the store (Yes, they are authentic and brand new), and they were the exact same pair of glasses, but the staff couldn’t give a small discount for my frames. If only I could use VSP for online purchases, instead of letting these people rip me off!!!

Dr. Kwong has been my optometrist for years, ever since I was little. She is, by far, one of the nicest doctors you’ll ever meet. Her assistants, on the other hand, not so much. They’re actually the only reason why this review gets 1 star off.
Selection of frames is somewhat limited as this is a small shop. I feel as if they have more selection for females than males (harder for me to decide). They do feature plenty of designer eye wear and designer sunglasses. If you can’t find a frame you like, feel free to ask the unhelpful assistants for a catalog as they can also special order certain frames/​colors.
My first pair of glasses were Kenneth Cole Reaction (decent, decided to snap in half towards the end of life), second pair was Armani Exchange (great «thick» and sturdy frame), and my most recent pair are Ray Bans. The example frame they had for display featured a hideous green color, so I asked if they had other variants. The assistant pulled out a eye wear catalog, looked up the model number online, and placed a special order for my desired color. They said, because it was special order, it would take a bit longer, but from my experience, it was just as fast as ordering other frames that were in stock.
Prices aren’t too bad, most ranging from $ 80 — $ 180, but keep in mind that most of the frames are designer eye wear and usually insurance covers a big portion of it. They also have cheap frames (non-​designer brands; $ 40 — $ 60) if you just need a spare pair or some reading glasses.
Overall, Dr. Kwong is a great optometrist but her assistants could be better, especially in the attitude department.

The office assistants were unhelpful, they also answered the phone halfway through my question.
Did not have too wide of selection of glasses.

I like to go there~ Dr. Kwong is awesome!!! She is very professional and nice. They have all kinds of brands for sunglasses to regular glasses~ the staff are friendly.
They do reminder calls so you won’t forget~~
When you have your frist app. they will do an assessment with you, ask about your health history. After that, Dr. Kwong will provides the cares and prescription as needed. After you got your contact lenses, they will do a follow up with you just to see if you are ok with the contact lenses. For glasses, they will also help you with the comfort on wearing it, is it too lose or too tight, they will fix it for you.
