Enjoyed breakfast here. Had the farmers plate with bacon. Added some hair of the dog (bourbon and coffee) and it cured my hangover. If I’m back in the area I’d eat there again.

I highly recommend this restaurant coming to sf!!! It opens at 10am not 0930am despite what this website says. We ordered chicken & waffles and angel biscuits & gravy. Everything was delicious! Waffles was airy and crisp and light. Chicken was juicy and skin was just perfect. Best chicken and waffles. Service was excellent. Food took a little bit of time but it was worth the bit of wait. Angel biscuit and gravy dish also comes with 2 eggs any style, potatoes (yum), and fruit. Everything you want on a plate!!!

Always enjoy coming to this place! Good and drinks are great.
I made a reservation for a large group on a Tuesday night. They gave us plenty of space to order drinks, chat and our food came at just the right time for a dinner party type atmosphere.
A few extra credit stars:
–When I walked in the door with a suitcase, someone on the staff immediately asked if I wanted it checked
–The music was at a good column for conversation, in the past I’ve come here and had a hard time chatting, but this time it was just perfect to talk to a large group

Made for a great start to a fun girls night out. Love the bar with all the creative drinks and great food! And so great how close it is to the cable cars.

what beats brunch, (spicy) Bloody Marys and beats? But not just any type of beats played over your ordinary, everyday speakers… we’re talkin’ a smokin’ live band that plays every Sunday while you dine.
I was blown away.
The music played was mostly r&b, soul and just the classics that you can get down to whenever, wherever. It’s a perfect setting for that Sunday you especially need right before Mundane Monday kicks you back into high gear for that super busy work week you have to look forward to 52 times a year. But it’s okay, there are an equal amount of Sunday’s that you can spend at Farmerbrown’s to balance your emotions all out.
Food is also just real darn good as well. I lived in the South a few years back and learned some country cooking, but it’s always nice not to have to cook them biscuits and gravy yourself — especially when you see how much love (aka grease) goes into all that tasty gravy o. O You can either order a la carte or partake in their brunch buffet. Options!
Seating is scattered so you can actually sit right near the band. Or if you care about your ear drums, you can sit in the central dining area a little ways away from the corner the band is nestled in. There’s also bar seating with ginormous bar stools that you can post at. My gf and I were able to share one bar chair, and that’s saying plenty!
I’m about to be a repeat offender; I’ll just go ahead and admit it now. I can’t wait to check in again soon for my next brunch adventure here. Catch me there, I’m sure I’ll have a bloody or beer (or both!) and biscuits in hand.

A friend and I wanted to meet up someplace quite to chat until his flight left for New York. As I work in the Civic Center, and he was taking BART back to SFO, I wanted to find something along the path.
Wow, this place was great! Just like most SF places — don’t judge by the exterior façade. The inside was retro and cool. The people, so wonderful and attentive.
We both picked the Fried Chicken with Collards and Shells&Cheese, and I just had to get a side of grits — to try them, of course :) He ordered a beer neither of us had heard of, but I had to stick with water (driving after my BART ride).
The chicken… the skin was wonderfully crispy, but not overly. I LOVE crispy, but not losing have my crispy bits down my shirt. The meat was nice and juicy and flavorful! The collards were a touch crisp still, not mushy, with nice bits of porky goodness. The shells&cheese were nice and cheesy — and not the ‘fake’ cheese :) And the grits… Oh My. I could have those for breakfast every day. Ok, not really, but I’d love to try.
We stayed there for quite a while chatting — hadn’t seen each other in about 5 years — and they never once tried to kick us out.
And right off the Powell street station, this is a place I will drag my family to as soon as I can — even if it is kicking and screaming :)

I really am a sucker for any spot featured on Check Please! Bay Area no matter how long ago the episode aired, so when it was my turn to pick a spot for myself, my husband and a friend to eat in San Francisco recently, I dug through the relics of my bookmark list and came up with Farmerbrown.
As we were waiting to be seated I read through quite a few recent Unilocal tips about slow service, and I can attest to those as fact after our experience. I am usually pretty keyed-​up and in a hurry to get from one place to the next, but this time I was really just tagging along before my dinner companions headed to a concert at the Warfield so in the end, we really didn’t mind the wait for our food and drinks very much.
Our waitress was so sweet and the food was great, but the big disappointment for me here was the fact that our appetizer came out well after we were finished with our entrée. The gal serving us brought out a complimentary fried chicken wing for what she said was a miscommunication with the kitchen, though I would have preferred to have the price of the pickle chips waived instead because when they arrived, we had no belly space for them and essentially just picked at the dish.
Despite this I can still confidently rate our experience here with 4 stars. Because of it’s proximity to the Warfield and lots of shops on Market Street, Farmerbrown is a great choice for delicious, inventive fare and a seasonal cocktail menu that could knock your socks off if you let it — though I wouldn’t be the first to recommend that you plan to spend plenty of time there from beginning to end.

The location kind of trumps everything. It was a local spot to chill waiting for a broadway show.
The pickles were better than what I remember. The wings are wings. The sweet potato was a nice filler and the drinks basically take the show.
It was a slow night as there is no tv, and so many games. but, it made other things more noticeable. The attentive bartender, the retro ish décor, the food and drinks in front of us. Pretty much a go to spot to start the night.

My old high school friend wanted to catch up. She suggested a great place called Farmerbrown in San Francisco’s Tenderloin. Farmberbrown has live music, a great bar, amazing mimosas, and a fun spin on soul food. My friend enjoyed chicken and waffles while I partook in a fried catfish sandwich! I suggest coming here for a casual drink, a nice brunch or dinner, and listening to some great local musicians!

What better way to end running a half marathon than with food? After our race, we did a celebratory brunch buffet here. Booked a resi online, which was really easy, and called in to update the number of our party with no problems.
It was Soul Sunday, so there was live entertainment which was a great touch to the ambiance. I definitely consumed my fair share of fried chicken, fried catfish, bacon, and grits. Everything was really heavy, so it was refreshing to have some fresh fruit and mimosa options to balance out the density. The service was excellent and we had a fun time. I really like the dim, cool décor, the music, the vibes, the food. It’s all great!

Four of us went here for brunch. They could not find our reservation, but we were quickly seated anyway.
Two of us had the chicken and waffles which they enjoyed enormously. They particularly like juiciness of the chicken and the lightness of the waffles.
The other two of us had the biscuits & sausage gravy with eggs. I loved the sausage gravy.
The service was very good and attentive. The noise level was pretty low.
We will return!

I really enjoyed my dinner here. I think mainly because its been ages since we’ve gone out to dinner as a family. It was a special occasion.
We had the gumbo, veggie jambalaya, and baby back ribs. The gumbo had quite a lot of seafood. And veggie jambalaya could have used more veggies (the whole point of ordering this dish was to get our daily fill of veg but sadly this dish didn’t even come close). The ribs did not make much of an impression.
But of course the beer with my meal put me in a mellow mood and having my family around to share the experience makes up for some of the shortcomings in the food.
My 5 year old loved his kids meal!
Good atmosphere to relax with those close to you.

Love, love, love Farmerbrown. Their chicken and waffle never disappoints! Reservations are always available, and their brunch menu rocks. (Especially the crispy potato thing that I have no idea how to make myself)
It’s not listed on the menu, but you can order pieces of fried chicken a la carte — $ 3 per piece, and you get to choose which one.

Came here with a party of 6 at 10:30am for an Easter brunch. Made reservations a few weeks prior online… very easy & simple to book. The restaurant itself isn’t in the cleanest part of downtown however there are a handful of nearby parking lots and garages within walking distance.
We were running 15 min late and when we called the restaurant to give an update, they were very accommodating. Once there, we were seated right away. Some of our group ordered the gravy & biscuits (delicious and homemade, mushroom gravy avail upon request), crabcake benedicts, and then their famous chicken & waffles! All were very tasty. We also got 2 carafes of mimosas for the table, which between the 6 of us was too much. There bloody mary was also good but I think needed more of a kick or spice to it. Our server was great and quick with our orders and food. If we had stayed until noon, we would have been able to enjoy the small live band that was set up close to the entrance.
If you’re looking for a good time with friends to enjoy a southern home-​cooked type of meal, this is the place!

2) small place, not ideal for big groups…
3) band plays, even during brunch… but since so busy, friends said the venue asked them to pack up early to make more room for tables… yea, no need for the racket ppl complain about anywaz…

Decided to go to Farmerbrown for brunch on my birthday. All of my guests enjoyed their brunch, but I was not totally convinced.
On Sundays, they have live music at the restaurant from about 12 — 2:30…AVOID THOSE TIMES. The music was so so so so loud I could not hear anything and it was not very good either.
Once the music finally stopped we were able to enjoy our brunch. The majority of us ordered the pulled pork sandwich and chips… it was alright however was lacking in flavor. I also had a bloody mary, which I enjoyed.
Overall, nothing about this experience excites me. I had higher expectations for a soul-​food-​inspired restaurant. They are trying to be different then all the other brunch places out there with the live music, but I’d recommend they turn it down.

I enjoyed my first experience here. We went on a Tuesday though which was nice as it wasn’t crowded. The potatoes from the scramble was a highlight… well seasoned and crispy. Overall recommend!

From time to time, I still search for that awesome fried chicken and waffle…
Here I am at Farmerbrown gnawing on their fried chicken and crispy thin waffle. To my surprise, I enjoyed the light crispy waffle more than the fried chicken. I think the fried chicken lack in taste and could use a little more seasoning. The simple breakfast of eggs, angel biscuits, and potatoes, I wish you guys did not served my friend those burnt biscuit… UNACCEPTABLE!
One thing I regret ordering was the cheesy grits. It was so bland and the grits wasn’t even cheesy. Adding a little bit of cheddar cheese for topping is not considered CHEESY!!!
My experience dining here felt short and I wasn’t satisfied with my meal nor was my friend. Sorry my friend ended up paying for my meal as always! Buahahah!!!

The collard greens alone are enough to make me a vegetarian. Some of the best tasting greens.
I had their chicken and Mac n cheese. The chicken was flavorful and juicy. The mac n cheese was pretty good. I just prefer mine a little more browned. Still good I must say.
Any place that serves booze in mason jars are ok by me. The drinks were divine … Oh my

For everyone else, we welcome you back to your normally scheduled review. The chicken and waffles are dope — hot, juicy, mouthwatering chicken served with flaky, crispy waffles that honestly taste so good you’ll think they were straight up deep fried (honestly, are they?).
Like legit — I’d probably say the waffles are the best thing on the menu hands down had I not just had a bite of my friend’s biscuit sandwich from the GODS. So let’s say probably the second best thing I’ve ever had, which on this day is still pretty good. They’re light, crispy, and even come with options — which I like. There’s this jalapeño hot sauce that is flames and also this vanilla bourbony sauce that was also excellent. My only problem was that all my food was gone in minutes, but that can be corrected with a return trip… tomorrow perhaps? Stay tuned.

We came here for the Sunday brunch buffet and really liked it! The service was good and the décor eclectic. The live music added to the atmosphere and wasn’t too loud if you weren’t sitting right next to it.
The buffet was packed with delicious items, some better than others:
1) Cheesy grits — good
2) Roasted breakfast potatoes — flavorful and fully cooked on the inside, which I appreciated
3) Stir fried cauliflower, broccoli, and collard greens — tasty
4) Scrambled eggs — ok — the weak link
5) Biscuits — delicious
6) Bacon — I didn’t have any, but my husband said it was fine
7) mushroom gravy — very good
8) sausage gravy — good
9) fried chicken — excellent
10) fried catfish in cornmeal — wonderful
11) waffles — good, if you get a fresh batch
12) pecan tarts — good
The cocktails were good too — I had a Farmhouse Lemonade and my husband had a Farm House (?) iced tea.
The service was decent. We had to wait several minutes before they came by to take our drink orders and tell us about the menu options. Aside from that, they were good, and made a point of clearing away finished plates in a timely manner.
The setting — while in the Tenderloin — was warm and inviting with eclectic décor.
Also, we loved the fact that Farmerbrown takes reservations for brunch!
Overall, very good food and drink at a good price ($ 23.95/person for the buffet, excluding alcohol)! It was a fun way to indulge on Valentine’s Day. Trying not to think about the calories!

We loved it! Walking up from Nordstrom, we missed it and took a few block jaunt on the wild side, but got turned around. It looks like it once was a bar… probably why we missed it.
Pretty empty at Friday lunch, we were served quickly. We shared a Cobb salad with no egg, and waffles. Perfect combination! We also had a glass of Viognier.
The salad was great… Crispy fried chicken, bacon, avocado, greens… Yummy! Waffles were light and had a slightly chewy texture… syrup was not too sweet.
I would go back in a heartbeat!

I came here with a friend for a fancy night out. It was actually quite hard to tell I was at the right restaurant until I walked inside and saw the name of the restaurant on the menu. There is no sign outside indicating the name of the restaurant, so be aware of that!
I was super excited to eat here to try the waffles and the shells and cheese, so I ordered just that. My friend ordered the pulled pork sandwich. The food was pretty good, but I do not think it was worth the high prices. The ambience was nice and the bar was definitely a highlight of the restaurant. Also, they serve very strong cucumber water, which I thought was kind of interesting. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be coming back to pay for these overpriced foods.

I came here last week for Restaurant Week and I’m sad to say that I was kind of let down by Farmerbrown :(I’d been here before and had a great experience with the food. However, last weeks did not blow me away. Off of the prix-​fix menu my boyfriend and I ordered the gumbo and steak sweet potato fries to start.
Gumbo: The gumbo was very yummy! My family’s from Louisiana so my soul food needs to be seasoned to the T and the gumbo passed the test! It had all of the right flavors. Inside was one jumbo prawn and catfish. The catfish was a pleasant surprise. Definitely order this if you come!
Sweet Potato Steak Fries: These were ok. My boyfriend really seemed to like them. I’d actually never had sweet potatoes cut into steak fries so that was pretty different.
Entrees:
Fried chicken: The fried chicken plate was huge. Definitely very filling. I’m sad to say that the chicken and breading was a little bland. The sides were greens and mac and cheese. The greens were very tasty and had a very down home authentic taste. The mac and cheese was super creamy and tasty. Beware if you are lactose-​intolerant!
Jambalaya: Ahh I’m so sad to say that I was not impressed at all by the Jambalaya. I’m not sure if it was because it was restaurant week and the menu was pre-​set but it was just not seasoned well at all. There was no spicy kick and it wasn’t saucey enough for me. I was definitely kind of disappointed.
I want to come back here for Brunch which I heard is smackin! Hopefully they will redeem their selves for me when that time comes. Also, the service was really good our waiter was very upfront and honest when we asked about items on the menu so I really appreciated that!

Found this place on Unilocal near my hotel and it’s delicious. I didn’t do the buffet because that would be greedy. I got the farmers plate with catfish and side of fruit. Yummy in my tummy.

Farmerbrown has been on my bookmarks for a while so when I saw it on Dine About Town yet again this year, I knew I had to try it. My friend and I made reservations for 2 on a Sunday and luckily we did! Had we not, it would have been at least an hour to an hour to a half wait!!!
We were sat pretty much directly in front of the live band which was a bit unfortunate because we were left yelling at each other across the table to communicate with one another. The music wasn’t bad… just loud. And then we found out that the Dine About Town menu wasn’t available for weekends… what?! But sprinkles on top was finding out that there were no waffles on this Sunday either. Triple whammy.
We still tried to make the best of our situation though. I opted for the Farmer’s plate which had two eggs, crusted catfish (my choice), potatoes, a biscuit, and fruit garnishing. I was a little surprised the catfish was more like nuggets than say a crusted filet, but it was still good. The meal was filling and I thought it all went well with the lemonade. All in all, I still feel like I didn’t get to have a true Farmerbrown experience. Perhaps, I’ll try again another time.

We found Farmerbrown through Restaurant Week. We visited for dinner on a Friday night. We were seated right away and govern a choice on the section which I always appreciate when offered.
The special menu came with a choice of wine or beer which was a nice surprise. We ordered bean soup which was hearty and full of large onion chunks. We were brought a few little delicious surprises like mini cornbread muffins with pieces of jalapeño. We could have eaten a full basket of these gems. Fresh tangerine slices sprinkled with chili were lovely too. My husband and I fought overt the last bit of house made marmalade that is served with the angel biscuits… delicious!
The service and food were all excellent. This is a place that takes fresh, top quality ingredients and brings out their best with a soul food flair. You don’t leave feeling like you ate to much crisco and salt, not at all. This is food made with love and and respect for good ingredients.
Next time I hope I can order a basket of those mini cornbread muffins!

A few first impressions:
— They had (good) live music at a Sunday brunch. That’s pretty cool
— Buffet is $ 26/​person, and a bottomless mimosa is $ 20. Kind of pricey
— We came with a group, and the wait was ridiculous. Turns out, they don’t take reservations the day of, but you are allowed to make a reservation a few days in advance. Definitely take advantage of that!
And the buffet:
— It’s southern soul food. Cheesy grits, biscuits and 2 kinds of gravy, fried chicken, and waffles, as well as other stuff.
— Overall, the food was pretty good, but not amazing
— The dessert portion was kind of lacking. Eating soul food makes me crave banana pudding, and they didn’t have any
So pretty good place in general, but not quite a home run. If you’re really craving Southern cooking, they may be worth a try.

Good ‘ol Farmer Brown. In the heart of the Tenderloin off of Mason St. and parallel to Market St. A nice, quaint, hip restaurant with a bit of a hipster vibe. Décor had those old nostalgic Black & White photographs of prominent African-​American leaders, activists, and entertainers. Very inviting atmosphere with a casual dress code.
Came here for a birthday dinner of about 10 – 12 people. We’re able to accommodate our party no problem and seated us promptly (even though we were a few minutes late). Ordered the Grilled country pork chop with Broccolini, red onions and yellow corn with mashed sweet potatoes and a whole grain dijon sauce. Pork chop was succulent and tender, paired with the mashed sweet potatoes was a mouthfull of delight. Broccolini was tasty as well. While enjoying dinner I consumed a few «Moscow Mules» (Vodka, Ginger beer, Lime juice with a lime slice garnish) in a copper mug. I’m going to be honest Farmerbrown makes one helluva Moscow mule!
I would definitely recommend FarmerBrown if you wanted to grab a nice fulfilling dinner with your friends, family, or significant other. Food was solid but service could of been better hence the three star rating. I don’t expect the best service when your in a large group due to so many moving parts involved at the table, but at times throughout our dinner the wait got somewhat ridiculous.

For soul food or brunch, check this place out. It’s got a buffet and a la carte menu with entrees like fried catfish sandwich, angel biscuits and gravy, southern fried chicken and waffles, fresh made Belgian waffles, farmers plate and more. Don’t forget the sides like spoke-​wood smoked bacon, Cajun Yukon potatoes, and cheesy grits. I like the orange marmalade with slides of the fruit to spread as jam on the angel biscuits. Of course, start with their specialty drinks or mocktails. The lemonade and cucumber cooler is refreshing.
Service is fast, friendly and helpful. However, the live bad can be loud and drown out your voices if you’re trying to talk. Brunch buffet ends at 2pm, but you can still order a la carte.
Parking is tough on the street, but it’s right near BART for a quick walk a block away. So, reserve your seats to avoid lines and being turned away.

This was the only place open nearby on New Years and got good reviews, so my friend and I decided to give it a try.
I think because it was New Years Day, there was a special menu – with a $ 25 brunch buffet – separate from regular menu items you can order from. My friend got the buffet and I got an order of biscuits n’ mushroom gravy w/​scrambled eggs. My order came out in about 15 minutes. I was actually disappointed because my food wasn’t hot (almost close to cold? barely lukewarm – and same with the coffees that we ordered). Tastewise – the eggs were perfectly scrambled (not overcooked like some places) and seasoned; the biscuits were nice and buttery but a little too doughy for my taste; and the mushroom gravy was flavorful and not too salty but a little on the thick side. Overall, it was a little on the heavy side… but I guess that helped with my minor hangover. My friend had mediocre reviews on the buffet – there didn’t seem to be much food (as if it was running out and the chefs weren’t planning on replenishing the trays); the waffles were fresh and crisp; fried chicken average; grits a little gritty (?) as opposed to creamy.
My order was around $ 15 and the coffees were $ ⁶⁄₇ each, which was pretty pricey. Food was very average, definitely not standout soul food if you’re looking for authenticity. The pluses – atmosphere vibe was great and the place was filled, very hipster looking place, and waiters were nice.

WOW, talk about tasty!
Definitely a cool spot, beers are served in miles jars. I’m sure that’s nothing new in the city, but it was a first for me.
The pulled pork po’boy was so tasty, the ingredients are just on point. From the pork, to the bread… just spot on. Both housemade bbq or carolina mustard sauces are tasty. I’d pick the bbq sauce over the mustard, mainly because it has a smokey bite to it, which was just what the po’boy needs to give it that extra lil something something. Add that with the jalapeño sauce and you have yourself one bomb @ss sandwich.
Two minor things that were somewhat of a nuisance. There were the flies that kept coming around, which was annoying. Also, we were seated near the windows on a nice day, shades didn’t do a whole lot to the keep the light out. Two small things, but I have to give reason as to why I can’t give 5 stars. All in all, a great spot to chow down.

I enjoyed having Brunch here. You have an option to eat from the buffet or to eat from the a la cart menu. We choose the menu and I am glad we did.
Our wait was not long at all. While we waited there was a live band playing music. The vibe was really low key and chill.
As I took notice of the establishment the bar was filled with twenty somethings getting their jazzy brunch on. The main dining area was a mix of families, with couples and smaller friend groups.
I decided not to do the buffet because I have a thing about having my brunch done fresh for me. Sometimes you get lucky and the buffet is great but I didn’t want to risk it.
I had the cheese omelet with a mimosa and was satisfied but not overly impressed. I think there a ton of hype associated with the location but the food did not make it stand out for me.

This place is pretty terrible for brunch.
* The live band’s music was way too obnoxiously loud. Two large speakers within a small space. I covered my ears to protect my eardrums the entire time, while shouting to my friends across the table and shouting to the waitress to place our order. The music is deafening, intolerably loud. What a terrible decision on the part of the management. We asked them to turn it down, and they said it was as low as it goes. BS. Ever heard of the volume button? This issue alone, would make me never return (whenever there is live music).
* We were seated before 1:30PM on a Sunday. By this time, the food at the buffet looked stale and unappetizing, and worst of all, they were not refilling it.
* Because the buffet food wasn’t being refilled and the leftovers looked unappetizing, we had to order a la carte, which meant that we had to pay more.
* The a la carte chicken & waffles came with inferior, thin, crusty waffles. Not the thick ones that were in the buffet.
* The biscuit that came with the farmer’s plate tasted dry and awful.
* Since this wasn’t the dinner, none of the little buttery biscuits that they normally give for free (as part of dinner) came. This is one of their best foods.
* One minor thing — We asked for the eggs to be over-​medium, but they came over-​easy.
* Food overall was very mediocre and not worth the price.
I’ve been here for dinner and the food and ambiance was fine. Maybe skip the brunch here? Or maybe the quality had just gone down over the years?

In terms of the whole package, this spot delivers.
We came on a Sunday and there was about a 30 minute wait for 7 people. It wasn’t dreadful. They do the all you can eat buffet for lunch on Sundays and it was what everyone in my party opted for. However for me I chose to get the farmer’s plate. I knew damn well I could not eat more than $ 20 worth, and I was right. The bottomless mimosa option is something to shoot for! Just make sure the server is around and keeps it bottomless for your money’s worth!
The food didn’t blow me away. It was good. But nothing I would slap my mama for. What really sets this place apart was the live music. A little loud, don’t bring a hot date for brunch here on a Sunday. But either way the music was enjoyable and they really set the tone for some good soul food.

I didn’t even know they were now open for lunch when I was passing by and thought it was a sign, or at least most fortuitous, since I was super in the mood for chicken and waffles.
Well, maybe not totally in the mood, but maybe more like hoping their’s would be really, really good.
I’m sad to say, unfortunately, they weren’t good.
THEY WERE AWESOME.
The waffles were probably the best I’ve ever had. They were light, crisp, and had this crazy good vanilla bourbon thing to it. And then when they throw on some rosemary, you get this scented savory-​sweet dynamic component that made it extra yummy.
The chicken had a nice crisp coating and was moist inside; it’s just too bad the meat itself was a little bland for yours truly. But not to worry, the honey jalapeño sauce instantly adds some requisite flavor and heat to it.
The thing I really wish was that they served bigger pieces of chicken especially considering how much you’re paying for the dish: you know more like a breast and thigh (or leg) versus just a wing and a thigh.
Come on Farmerbrown, I needs working folk portions here please.

To celebrate finally moving into the city, my friends planned brunch with 2 requirements — reservations and bottomless mimosas. Farmerbrown had both, was a quick walk from the BART, and had good reviews. I was sold.
We actually arrived a bit before our reservations, but they were able to seat us immediately. Score! We quickly placed our order for the bottomless mimosas and the buffet. As I had been moving the previous day, I downed my mimosa before we got up, and realizing the lushes that we were, the waitress quickly got us a carafe.
The buffet was solid for southern food — cheese grits, potatoes, biscuits and two types of gravy (gotta get my SOS — Shit Onna Shingle — on), bacon, fried chicken, fried catfish bites, and waffles! Unfortunately the waffles were out on our first go through, but I was able to get a bit of each. If you couldn’t tell from above, healthy is not a reason to come here.
Everything was great. While small, the biscuits were warm and fluffy and the sausage gravy delicious. Bacon ran the gamut from crispy to chewy, so if you were smart you pick to your preference. The fried catfish and chicken were both delicious! On my second go through I was able to nab a waffle and made myself a true breakfast open-​faced sammich: waffle, topped with fried chicken pulled off the bone, topped with bacon, and smothered is syrup. Honestly impressed I was able to leave under my own willpower considering the food and I had lost count of mimosas at this point.
While the food was great, and I thoroughly enjoyed the divey atmosphere and hipster staff, the real highlight was the live funk-​soul band Hot Pocket. For the day, a 4 piece band that was providing the perfect mood music for the meal. We were literally right next to them, but we could still have a conversation, though I may have been listening to them more.
Great experience, here’s to 500 more reviews now that I’m in the City proper, and need to find more live music!

I’ve been to Farmerbrown’s Little Skillet numerous times and is one of my favorite fried chicken spots in the city. So when I finally had the chance to visit the actual Farmerbrown restaurant for dinner one night, expectations were pretty high for me.
I’ve already had their chicken at Little Skillet, so I figured it would be best to order something different, so I went with their Crispy Cornmeal Catfish and a side of their Mac N’ Cheese.
Crispy Cornmeal Catfish —
With hush puppies, candied yams, pickled onions, haricot verts and sauce gribiche
This was a very solid plate of comfort food! The Catfish was lightly fried and was nice and moist inside. I also liked the hush puppies and candied yams, they added some good substance to the meal.
Mac N’ Cheese —
Made with Tillamook cheddar & toasted bread crumbs
Whenever I visit any soul food establishment, I always have to try the mac & cheese, and Farmerbrown makes it pretty good. While not totally creamy, it was certainly gooey from the Tillamook Cheddar. It’s a great side dish.
Overall, it was a satisfying dinner. I still have to try their buffet which most Unilocalers have talked about, although since I’ve been reading mixed reviews about it, I’m not in any rush to go back for that.

I made reservation for 8 people and had to wait 30 mins past our reserved time, so really. There was no point of me making the reservation ahead of time.
Also maybe we had bad luck and got stuck with a non-​friendly waiter. He sucks at waiting table, he has poor customer service, and never bothered to check in with my party to see if everything was fine.
Enough of my complaints, my party and I enjoyed our brunch a lot. Their WAFFLES ARE A MUST-​HAVE! Their batter are sooo good! It’s crispy on outside and moist and soft in the inside. You can either get this with:
* Chiken and Waffle $ 18
* Fresh made Waffle with seasonal fruit $ 9

This place has live music, cool ambience, so it’s understandable why their price is higher than other brunch places in SF. This place isn’t well coordinated for larger groups, so get personal and go with one or two friends only.

Got me feelin’ like I’m down south. Starving & seated right away on a Sunday at around 11 AM.
Price: Look to spend about at least $ 20/​person for food and drinks
Parking: Street/​little lot
Service: ok, no complaints
Drinks: Carafe of mimosas. Tasty & champagne strong.
Food:
Chicken & waffles: Fried chicken was ON POINT. Crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The waffles were crispy & soft… perfectly made.
Notes: When the live band is playing, expect to not hear anything other than the band. (–1)

This place was such a joke! The food was good, great ambience, but terrible service! Probably the worst service of my 2015 food adventures. We had to ask for water 3 times. Our beer and soft drinks came out before water was given. It was late Friday night, close to closing time. I get it, they wanna clean up and go home, but the service we received from our female server was unacceptable. We asked about the cornbread and our server said that it’s complimentary when we order entrees. We reminded her to check up on the cornbread again when our entrees came out and she said that the kitchen ran out of it. Ehhh.
Normally for these types of restaurants you pay for service, ambience, atmosphere, and the food you don’t expect much. But service was horrible. It’s a hipster restaurant that plays gangster hip hop music. When it was time to close up the meal, she asked if we wanted dessert because it’s last call. The way she said it was rude and it made us feel rushed. Then she asked if we were ready for the check. Ugh. What in the world girl!!!
Super duper slow service. The food here was overpriced. For the service that I received and the price that I paid, I would not recommend this place. According to other reviews, their Sunday Brunch buffet sounds good.

Once of the best places I have been to during my last trip in SF. I even came back twice just to taste the ribs! The music was great, the drinks were great, the food was awesome (you could feel the quality of their ingredients, really). You cannot be wrong with this place!
Oh, and do not judge the place by its neighborhood: not the best location maybe, but you should not have any trouble at all.

I had such high hopes for this place. I finally had a chance to check it out, and I must say that the current reviews are pretty on par with my experience at this place. Let me just preface this by saying that my family is from New Orleans, so I have pretty high expectations for those restaurants that bill themselves as «southern» or «Cajun». We arrived and were seated pretty promptly (by a very cute host, I might add). Our waitress came over and took our order after that. I think we sampled a good portion of the menu, and here are our (compiled) thoughts:
–the biscuits were bland. Even the honey butter and speciality jelly couldn’t do it justice
–the Mac and cheese was underwhelming and greasy, and lacked flavor
–hush puppies were okay, but there was something missing
–the shrimp and grits were not as creamy as I expect, and also lacked flavor (although my cousin informed me that adding the «special sauce» on the table helped with the flavor)
–the ribs were actually pretty tasty. We got the sauce on the side, but it definitely added to the taste in a good way
–the candied yams were way too citrusy. I’m all for experimenting with tastes and food, but my palate wasn’t feeling this taste combination
–the shrimp gumbo was good… however it tasted like something I would make at home with a box of Zatarans Seafood Gumbo mix (no joke). And I’m far from a chef (except when I use Zatarans).
Since this restaurant didn’t appear to really stick to «southern cuisine rules», I figured I would see if the red velvet cake was actually made traditionally, as the menu stated. The waitress stated that it was made with buttercream, and I asked if she could double check first, but if it was then I would want it. She goes to check and brings out the cake only to inform me it was made with cream cheese. Since I don’t eat cream cheese, I told her I would prefer not to have the cake. But she gave it to us anyways since she had already brought it out.
Overall, service was adequate but the food left a lot to be desired and was a bit too expensive for the caliber of what you get. It’s quite possible that the previous chef or cook may have left, resulting in lackluster cuisine. Not a bad place to go, but don’t expect much and plan on spending some
Money. I would recommend going to Brenda’s instead, which is nearby, delicious, and a bit more reasonable price wise.
