I don’t Unilocal often but this place was great. Have been wanting to try this place for a bit now and finally found a Thursday evening off work when my partner and I could go. The food was great! A selection of about 8 dishes(and an Adobo special they were running that night), we tried three of the smaller dishes, all very good but ordered a second helping of the Lumpia which was amazing. The place is a pop-up in Gashead Tavern(seems like a cool bar in and of itself). Definitely want to go back for Saturday brunch and it sounds like FOB will become a more constant presence in Gashead Tavern in time. Apart from the Lumpia(which comes with a sweet chili glaze to dip with, my partner and I aren’t usually a big fan of that sauce but this one was very good, wonder if it’s made in-house or if it just works really well with that dish) we had the Ribs with Jufran which were delicious as well(had to wikipedia Jufran as I’m not that familiar with Filipino cuisine, turns out to have an interesting political backstory from WWII with the need to create an alternative ketchup with bananas due to a lack of tomatoes and excess of bananas, this is much better than«American ketchup»). Third dish was the Lechon Kawali which was perfectly cooked with crispy skin that had the perfect bubbling appearance on the skin that gives a crispiness that didn’t take away from the wonderful fattiness of the Pork Belly which can happen sometimes. The Dinuguan and Adobo are on our list the next time we visit(with more Lumpia!). Prices were certainly reasonable, especially the Lumpia with the pork belly maybe a little overpriced for the portion but that seems to be just the way of pork belly in restaurants now a days so can’t hold that one against them. The kitchen is relatively small and I can’t imagine them expanding the menu much as a result but there’s no need to either! Otherwise I would love to see one more dish with rice(garlic rice!?) to provide a filler with the meal. Even a side of garlic rice to munch on would be great.(Obviously I’m stretching for critique now because it was that good)

Gosh, I can’t wait for the brick-and-mortar and a full schedule! As soon as the food hit the table, I knew I was in for a treat. Everything hit its mark. Brava, Janice and Brandi!

FOB Kitchen, you make me want to put this meal into words. A wonderful small unassuming mission street bar; in a neighborhood that’s changing so fast it makes me want to be sick. But FOB kitchen brings me back into the neighborhood when normally I’d rather just dine and dash in the Mission these days. We started with the lamb special. the shanks were small but generous pieces of lamb, fall off the bone, perfect bed of rice and vinegar pickled carrots and soft bok choy with a soy sauce base under the ride. The lamb broke down nicely off the bone; bone marrow exposed and deep with savory flavor and the rice was a perfectly cooked partner. The pork belly was more of a chicharon style, not exactly what I had in mind and maybe a bit too crispy or even unfortunately dry but after going to Spain it took me right back to the Madrid chicharon tapas bars I loved popping into. I enjoyed the savory skin on and delightfully fatty pig. Last and rightyfully so; the Shanghai Lumpia piping hot and freshly rolled into neat little smoke stack looking bites. The flavors were complex, savory, sweet and a bit spicy when dipped in the accompanying sweet chili sauce. I have to say that this wasn’t just the highlight of the meal; this was the home-run. Fried up to perfection. Meals come and go; but this place I must say I’d be interested in having again. I felt FOB to be at the lower price point and we were able to enjoy a bunch of dishes family style so this was the perfect pop up kitchen experience. Brandi was our polite and helpful server; she rounded out the lovely dining experience.

I’ve eaten at FOB Kitchen a few times now, mainly for brunch, and I leave incredibly impressed with the quality of food that these ladies are serving considering it is just a pop-up restaurant! I always seem to go with a group and we end up getting nearly everything on the menu to split. The food is always top notch and feels authentic. I rarely write reviews but felt that this one was necessary. If you’re looking for a new restaurant with authentic cuisine for a reasonable price, you gotta stop by FOB Kitchen. They are open for dinner on Wednesday and Thursday nights and serve brunch on Saturdays. I will absolutely be stopping by for more lumpia soon!

Janice and her kick-a** crew – including wife, Brandi – have a good thing going with this tasty pop-up spot. The menu is varied; the dishes are delectable(try the Adobo, Lumpia, and Pancit); the patrons are a diverse cross-section of the city; and the service is warm and homey. If you’re looking for some Filipino comfort cuisine – or just an awesome and affordable meal – on a Wednesday night or a Saturday brunch, be sure to check out FOB kitchen. Every dish will delight you.

The chef had her unique take on comfort Filipino cuisine I know and love. The Gashead Tavern in the Mission is a really great space, and got a nice bartender; you’ll have to order and pay your drink separately, however. Anyways, back to the food. Me and my boo went for the Ribs glazed with Jufran banana ketchup. The meat easily fell off the bone. Then we had the beefsteak with rice and onion; great seasoning on the steak. Last but not least, the special Chicken Sinigang we ordered was to die for! While it was a bit different from my grandmas Visayan style Sinigang, I appreciated the chef’s palate. Let’s just say I ate everything and drank each drop of soup. Last but not least, we finished the night with banana and nectarine fritters! Never had nectarine fritters! It tasted well and smelled so good. There was a side of macapuno coconut ice cream. So that was the actual food. And I must say the presentation and service was exceptional. There was a good pace in the food coming out and dishes getting taken away. Definitely would recommend this place to Filipinos and those who want to have an ethnic experience. Tip is to come at 6 to beat the rush!

Not only is the food amazing, the ladies cooking it and serving are hotttttt! Everything is super scrumptious and is served with a smile. My favorites so far are the vegetarian lumpia and the bistek. But truth be told we ate up every morsel of food that was given because it was THAT good

I never really knew what«real» Filipino food tasted like until I was fortunate enough to try FOB Kitchen… now I’m addicted! I am now a regular here for dinner and am never disappointed. From the pancit that always comes out perfect, to the warm & crisp lumpias to the signature ribs that fall perfectly off the bone; there is always an appetizer to entice your pallet. If you’re really lucky, they’ll serve pork belly that week which is my favorite! They also have a yummy eggplant dish and other vegetarian options. For entrees there is usually a wonderfully cooked steak bistek with a flavorful gravy. My go to is the adobo though… it’s the best I’ve ever eaten! The chicken is always so moist and full of great flavor. All the entrees come with a side of salad too! Great portions, price and the most authentic meal I’ve ever had. The best part is the FOB staff is so friendly and you know that your meal has been prepared with lots and lots of love. I can’t wait for their FOB Brunch starting July 11th in the mission!!! Check FOB Kitchen out! I highly recommend it!!!

I have been to the FOB kitchen several times now and I can tell you that if you’re looking for Filipino food this is the place to go!!! The dishes are authentic and unique with a nice variety that could suit any palate. I’ve tried everything once and I think the eggplant salad is my fav! The smokey roasted flavor is not like anything I’ve ever tried before and the light dressing on the tomatoes makes it just perfect. My second fav are the fried spring rolls(I forget what they actually call them). Both the vegetarian and meat ones are amazing. Also, if you are a vegetarian, ask for a side of the garlic vinegar sauce(comes with the veg spring rolls) to try with the rice noodle dish. I love it that way!!! Service is excellent too! ;-)

A friend who knows the owner brought me to this Filipino popup at Doctor’s Lounge, on a stretch of Mission boasting some of the city’s most delicious and underrated eats. FOB Kitchen is in action every Wednesday through July, churning out little paper trays of pancit, lumpia, ribs and lechon. The pork belly lechon was nicely crisped, paired with a bracing vinegar sauce and pickled radishes to cut the fat. My favorite small plate was the pancit sotanghon, the cellophane noodles nicely seasoned and tossed with vibrant cabbage, onions, cauliflower and snap peas. I think the smoky eggplant could have used a bit more seasoning to brighten it up — the overwhelming flavor was char, and no one would eat it but me. Both the large plates on the menu, bistek and chicken adobo, were hearty and pleasing. The delicious turon dessert was nicely crispy, filled with mango rather than the traditional banana, and accompanied by Mitchell’s coconut ice cream(best flavor!). On the night we ate, they were debuting a lovely coconut panna cotta dotted with crisp caramel corn. Staff was nice and prices were right(but cash only!). I hope FOB gets its own space. Finally, a shoutout for Doctor’s Lounge. I had no idea this dive bar has one of the best curated tap selections in town. The refreshing radler or 21st Amendment session IPA props up the food nicely.
