Choosing Shana of Fox & Doll to do my wedding hair and makeup was one of the best wedding-​planning decisions I made. She is able to create any hair/​makeup look masterfully, especially swoon-​worthy vintage and retro looks. I wanted winged eyeliner (notoriously difficult to get just right) and a classic red lip that wouldn’t smudge all over myself and my husband all night, and she accomplished both beyond my expectations. She is also incredibly organized, prepared, and absolutely delightful to be around. She happened to have worked with my florist before, so she went out of her way before the wedding to go pick up fresh flowers to put in my hair. On the day, she arrived promptly and set up a station with pictures she had taken from my hair and makeup trial from every angle so that she could recreate the look exactly as I had wanted it. She was also beyond thoughtful on the wedding day, and made sure that my friends passed me food and water while she was working on me. Lastly, she provided an adorable mini-​emergency kit with beauty items to touch up throughout the day, included a cute mirrored bobby-​pin holder that I still use. I am crossing my fingers for another event as an excuse to get to work with Shana again!

Just had a hair styling lesson with Shana and it was fabulous! I wanted some basic instruction on curling and braiding, and Shana patiently showed me the ins and outs of those techniques. She was great at teaching a beginner like myself, but I am sure would be equally capable teaching more complicated styling for the more experienced. She specializes in vintage styles, but was able to teach me how to do a modern, beachy-​looking curl from a picture I sent to her. In addition to the hair techniques, she gave me product and hair care tips customized for my hair, as well as a chart summarizing the lesson. I have been practicing what I learned and feel more confident that I know how to handle a curling iron properly. Highly recommended for those considering getting hair styling lessons.

What can I say? Shana is wonderful! I contacted her at the very last minute to see if she could help me with hair and makeup for an engagement session. She squeezed me in, and did a BEAUTIFUL job. Even better, she gave me a ton of useful tips along the way. After that great experience, I contacted her about hair and makeup lessons. So far I have visited her for one hair lesson (which was beyond helpful) and I am looking forward to scheduling a makeup lesson soon. Can’t say enough good things! You are in good hands with Shana.

I booked Shana for my engagement photo hair and make-​up, and bridal hair and make-​up. I’m so happy with her work and how it came across in photos!
I researched like crazy to find someone that could do makeup in a way that made the person look natural but not washed out in photos. Surprisingly difficult task, based on my research!
In addition to makeup, I was also looking for someone that was influenced by vintage styles and could translate them into a modern look. I shared a bunch of photos of what I was looking for and Shana did an amazing job in creating a style that worked for me yet had a classic, modern feel.
In addition to her talent, when you’re spending a few hours having your hair and make-​up done, it’s nice to do so with a down to earth, warm, and funny person like Shana. I cannot recommend her enough!

Shana is an amazing hairstylist! I was specifically looking for a very vintage look, finger waves with a Gatsby jazz era feel. I stumbled upon Fox And Doll on A Practical Wedding and the first photo I saw was exactly the look I was going for! I booked her for my hair only since my friend was doing my makeup for my wedding.
Shana is a sweetheart, professional and fun. Her studio has a fun retro feel to it and she takes a lot of time to make sure your look is just right. I can’t explain how perfect my hair came out (so you’ll have to look at my pictures!). But more than just looking good for pictures, my hair stayed in place late into the end of the reception, even with all the dancing and sweating and running into guests who want to take pictures with me and the groom. That’s what matters most! The hair was perfect and lasted all night long.
I would highly recommend Fox And Doll to any bride!

This review is so long overdue, but I can’t recommend Shana’s wedding hair/​makeup services highly enough! She is a rockstar.
This was the first time I’d ever worked with a hair and makeup artist, so I wasn’t sure what to expect and was initially at a bit of a loss when it came to explaining what I wanted (or even figuring out what I wanted!). At Shana’s request I put together a Pinterest board with some examples of looks I liked, and she did an amazing job honing in on exactly what it was about those styles that I wanted for myself. The trial was perfect — she totally nailed everything, and even did each eye in a slightly different way so I could choose what I liked better. Furthermore, she’s warm, calm, and a total pro. I left the trial appointment completely at ease, knowing I was in good hands.
The end result was exactly what I had hoped for: I looked like myself, only better! And considering how anxious and sleep-​deprived I was that day (ugh bridal nerves), that was no small feat. But looking back at pictures from the wedding, you’d never know. :) Thank you Shana.

In a last minute Hail Mary, I wrote Shana to see if she’d be available to do my makeup for my civil ceremony at City Hall, and by some miracle, she was able to accommodate my schedule. She was extremely prompt and professional in her replies, and has a gorgeous book of business. Though I wasn’t able to commit in time, I’d recommend her for her client relations alone. What a dream in the face of so many others who have the talent for artistry, but lack any finesse with people skills. Shana’s clearly got heaps of both!

Shana made me look as beautiful as I could ever hope for my wedding day! We shared Pinterest ideas, agreed on colors (I was adamant about a gold/​copper smokey eye), and had a wonderful time coming up with my bridal look! As a fair-​skinned girl, I was worried about looking either too undone or like a clown, but she achieved a perfectly balanced look that was stunning, but also still looked like «me.»
She was also sweet, professional, and completely relaxed. I really loved that my makeup felt light and «barely-​there,» as I tend to wear little to no makeup most of the time and hate that heavy feeling on my face.
Also, major kudos for her totally being chilled out EVEN when I was having a bit of a bridezilla meltdown — my brother had locked my husband’s keys in the car, which had our marriage documents, rings, and Shana’s payment, so we were unable to pay Shana until AAA came and she nearly had to leave! I was so stressed out, but she kept her cool, and I think that made all the difference in how I handled the rest of the day.
Can’t wait to use her services again for another event requiring me to throw on more than I can handle!

I was so happy to have booked Shana for my wedding hair and makeup. I had researched a ton of artists and didn’t see anything that stood out or they were booked. My friend found Fox and Doll and recommended it. I am so happy she did!
Shana is very professional, had quick responses, and was very informative. I felt like she covered every base to understand what I like and don’t like. She was always open to changes if I didn’t like something.
I booked her for the trial and day-​of services. After leaving her studio for the trial, I felt like a million bucks. I was so happy with what she created.

I really hate to say this, but I was very disappointed with my wedding hair and makeup. I wish I had done my own wedding makeup (and I’m certainly no expert).
I felt pressured into booking both a trial and the wedding at the same time. I wasn’t happy with my makeup trial, and since there were no mirrors up, I didn’t get to see how I looked for 2 hours which made it harder to offer constructive criticism. While she was adept at applying makeup, I felt that Shannon had no concept of what colors look good on people with different coloring than hers. I had already spent so much money on the trial and deposit for the wedding that it was hard to walk away at that point.
I just didn’t look or feel that pretty on my wedding day. Now that I’ve gotten my wedding photos back, I am realizing that my instincts were correct and I honestly looked better at my rehearsal dinner and engagement shots when I did my own makeup and got a blow out.
I would highly recommend doing a trial before you book your wedding hair and makeup and that you trust your instincts with all wedding vendors.

I was looking for a makeup travel bag as a Christmas present for my wife and called Fox and Doll having no idea where to begin my search. Shana picked up the phone, and although she didn’t have any bags at the time, she spent several minutes on the phone with me helping figure out what type of bag my wife would like, and where I could find the best one. My wife loves the bag she suggested and the store she recommended was awesome.
Shana is incredibly nice, has a warmth and presence I could feel over the phone, and it felt instantly comfortable speaking with her. She is genuinely interested, a good listener, intuitive, and knows her craft, all things that are very important when trying to figure out a person’s style and what they want to look like. I definitely recommend trying her first to anyone looking for a makeup artist.

My eyelashes are so boring today. Thanks for the fantastic makeup and hair yesterday. I made it to my appt right on time. The first thing the photographer said was that she loved my hair and makeup and asked who did it for me. Shana did a great job with my hair and makeup for my wedding! She embraced the vintage style but I felt like the look was very modern. My makeup and hair lasted perfectly for 10 hours including a bit of wind and some tears. She didn’t hesitate when I threw a curveball hat at her the day of. She’s very talented and will put you at ease.
