I walk in and see an old, euopean cobblerish looking guy. I hand him my fairly decent, leather soled boots. No, they weren’t the most out of this world boots, but I really liked them to the point where tip of the pointy-​toed leather sole was wearing thin and one of the heels have broken off. Keep in mind that leather soles are a sign of fairly decent quality and they feel different on your feet – and they’re not easy to find unless you go higher end. So, the shoe reapir guy says, «I make your boots like $ 600 boots. You will be very happy.» I ask him for the details, he tells me what he’s going to do and I trust him. He looks like he should knowwhat he’s doing. $ 70 later, I get the boots back, which are now not my boots. They are lifeless and stiff with none of the former soul (haha) they had. They now have a thick, rigid, rubber sole. And I haven’t worn them since. Moral of the story: don’t let some guy who takes on an air of authority about something tell you that he can make something better than what you already have by completely changing it.
