An excuse to wear a dress and pretend it’s Friday. You can’t beat this on a Tuesday. This was my second time at FT. Awesome crowd and music. I don’t think you’ll find a better party on a Tuesday. This event is definitely organized. Tonight the theme was Miami and they were handing out Lei’s and glowsticks and playing upbeat dance/techno/Latin beats. Everyone was approachable and having a good time. The photographer is super fun and flashed his camera all night long. This time, there was a free buffet(chicken skewers, lasagna, chicken wings, egg rolls etc.) and there was SEATING! Places to sit. Thank you! Beautiful décor, fun DJ, cute location. I had a great time. The drinks were a little pricey but they are very generous with the portions/alcohol so it’s all good.

What a great idea ! Finally, a nice upscale crowd in some San Francisco’s finest establishments. Basically, every other Tuesday, FT organizes a get together at a club/lounge which is private. That is, members only and their guests. Also men are dressed in suits and women in dresses. What a great idea ! I am not an elitist but there is something to be said when you can go out to a nice club in SF with a «riff-raff» filter at the door. Most of the other members are pretty down to earth, friendly and I have met some great people at these events. Down side is that it’s on a Tuesday night which means«Headache Wednesdays»…why couldn’t there be a French Friday’s?

You know you’re in stylish company when even the men compliment you on the dress you’re wearing. That could have made my whole evening as it was if it weren’t for the good company we were in and the moxie that accompanies every glass of champagne. As I passed through the room searching for my friend I could definitely feel the stares and cattiness of some of the women, but in general people were super friendly and there was plenty of good conversation to be made. FT’s most appealing qualities are the exclusivity(read: filter) and the fact that it’s location changes from event to event. Scoping out the venues on such an innocuous night saves me the trouble of losing a precious Friday or Saturday night, when I’d rather not be at a dud club. Thanks for the fun parties, and keep up the hard work!

I was totally devirginized this Tuesday! Um… I mean«by» French Tuesdays(FT)! I went to my FIRST-ever FT event this past Tuesday at the Boss club, which is located in the SOMA district on Harrison between 3rd and 4th. I had a fabulous time with my three girl friends! There were nice lights, red carpet, and several people greeting you. It was a fancy entrance and a great first-time experience. The guys were decked out in their nice suit/clubbing attire, and some even had nice hats and accessories. Quite a surprise for a Tuesday night! The group who went to FT at Boss was well dressed and had a touch of class. The guests range in different ethnicities, personalities, and even age groups from early baby 21 to as late as a mature 60 year old. FT is an exclusive group that requires membership in order to attend their events. If you’re not a member, it requires you to know someone who is already a member to invite you to the event.(Kudo moment: Thanks to my buddy, Todd, he invited me and my girls to FT!) After attending your first event, you need to attend a few more and be nominated by two current members in order to be inducted into the group. Also, if you say you’re going on the guest list and you flake, you will be banned from attending future events! So exclusivity makes the crowd better… not just better looking, but better in style, class, and overall package. It’s like what you would find at a nice club, but a much better venue and people on a Tuesday night! FT takes place every other Tuesdays at different SF clubs and transforms them into a Hollwood/New York-esque party. So don’t be deterred by the club choice that FT throws their events. Their guest list is strict, so they attract different people than the normal weekend attendees of the club. They did a wonderful job in transforming Boss into something completely different. Definitely a good time group to be a part of. A good mixture of social and professional mingling. So, if you know a member, try to get invited to the next event and sample what I just described.

After coming to French Tuesday events for a few months now, I am still not quite convinced it is as good as it is slated to be. Just as I have a great time at it one Tuesday, the next party turns out to be miserable. True, it could have something to do with the fact that it is Tuesday, and I don’t know about the average reader here, but I am not always able to be all bright eyes and bushy tail on a Tuesday night knowing my alarm is already awaiting to wake me up before 7 on Wednesday morning. But I think it has got more to do with the one very important factor: location. Basically, it is a floating party, with locations change among the so-called hip bars and clubs around San Francisco. I have to give it to the organizers: the idea itself is excellent. San Francisco NEEDS classy events like that that do not involve black ties, fat wallets, fundraisers and Mayor Newsom. These guys do care about the quality of nightlife and socializing. They make San Francisco look more like a city it claims to be and less of a village. All that is great. But location can really make or break a party. Sometimes it is cool and hip, other times it is cramped and crowded. I liked the party at Starlight Room and Vessel, but not as much at Temple and Roe and Circa, where it was far too packed for comfort. French Tuesday has a dress code, which is great — guys should wear jackets and no snickers. I wish this was more strictly enforced, by the way, but this being San Francisco, some men’s definition of a jacket isn’t quite the same as it’s meant to be. But — once you are inside, in crowded places like Roe, it is hot and sweaty, while the DJ pumps up top 40 like there’s no tomorrow. So here’s my main suggestion to French Tuesday organizers: make it more of a lounge and less of a club event. Women love to dance, true, but most men do not. Gyrating women, deafening music and sweaty men in blazers do not provide for good socializing, which is what this event is supposed to be good for. Make this event less crowded. I understand membership of the FT evetns have gone through the roof. All good, but then do not let any outsiders in, even for a $ 20 cover. Once the critical mass is exceeded, the night can be ruined. Drinks are spilled, people are lost, toilets are occupied, and so on. Speaking of drinks: provide more than one champagne(and for less than $ 12/glass) and more other drink choices. Some FT events have only champagne bars. Have more downtempo DJs as opposed to top Euro 40. I love cheesy European music — I listen to it when I clean my house or work out. But if you want me to put on my good jacket and good shoes, play something that I would not want to jump up and down to. Something more chilled, more mellow. Something you can talk to. Finally — when you have another party on a boat, make sure there’s room for all the invitees! I am still bitter about not being let on board the Hornblower Cruise FT party along with another several dozen people… But still, a great idea.

Read Frankenstein’s review. Besides the good, but very expensive, champagne, there was not a thing I liked about this. But, whatevs, different strokes and all that.

This is a well-planned gathering organized by some French guys… usually sponsored. The venue changes according to the city — they have meetings in San Francisco, New York LA& Miami, and you have to be invited by a «member». It’s a well-traveled and well-groomed crowd(men wear jackets & ladies cocktail dress), so it’s interesting if that ‘s your scene.

Members only is a good idea. These are definitely my favorite parties in SF when I want to feel like I’m back in NY or LA. Ask me nicely and maybe I’ll bring you as my guest(I was amazed that they let me bring 2 dudes last time and still maintain such a good ratio!). I’m not sure how I became a member, but apparently it’s a big hassle now for newbies. Of course, Unilocal parties beat the crap out of these ;)

I met my future husband here. NOT! (he’s just my baby’s daddy) But i think that’s the only reason any of the women attend, is to meet a husband(this is the only place in San Francisco where men buy women drinks, men wear real shoes instead of chucks and vans, men have something intelligent to say, most often have worldly life experience). And i think the reason the men attend, is because they know this, and they’re hoping to get laid. I know 3 people that got laid thanks to French Tuesdays. 5 Stars.

I must agree with Little Dragon… good looking crowd and a touch of French«love». Cool parties with good DJ’s. They are every two weeks on… you guessed it… TUESDAY! There 4thSF event was last Tuesday at the W Hotel and XYZ bar. They have been in NYC, LA and Miami for a while now and are just firing these parties up in SF. Goes from 7PM — 1AM with good prices on what you ask? Well, French Champagne of course! Kind of exclusive as you have to be a member(no charge) to get the invites and you must RSVP or you don’t get in. It is worth it though as it’s pretty tough to go wrong with good music, in a cool bar/club, hot people and Laurent Perrier flowing. More info… www.frenchtuesdays.com

Parlez vous francais chicky? LOTS of very HOT girls(and boys) at these events. Everyone is well dressed. Comes with a bit of French attitude — just a bit for authenticity. Prepare to salivate! NYC parties are more established and have been going on for a few years.
