I was so lucky to get a slot of shampoo & blowout on a Friday afternoon! I still forget that in this city most salons rarely take walk-​ins. Amanda did a great job with the shampoo, but she really did an amazing job with the blowout. My hair looked awesome throughout the day and then the next! I didn’t even have to spray anything on it or dry shampoo it– I think I’ve just found my new spot. And maybe I don’t have to cut it off because it actually looks great at this length :) Plus she’s a great listener and also gives helpful advice. Win!

I have had highlights for over 20 years and I am very particular about how my highlights should look. Recently, my colorist has move away so I have been looking for a new place to get my hair done. For convenience I decided to stay in my own neighborhood. I checked out the reviews on G Salon and thought to give it a try. To my very very pleasant surprise, Maria Campbell at G Salon surpassed my expectations. My highlights are EXACTLY as I wanted them and my hair color has not faded yet (it’s week three) the previous place I use to go to (very expensive place) my hair color would fade within the second wash.
I can’t tell you how hair cuts are, haven’t tried the hair cut yet but the color and highlights earn an A+++++++. I will keep you posted on the hair cut…

This is a long overdo review. I’m reminded to finally write this because I’m looking at hairstyles for my hair appointment later today. What I haven’t mentioned is that I live in Washington, D.C., and I am still returning to Chris!
Chris has been my «hair guy» for over a decade, since I first moved to SF for graduate school. His salon was down the street from my house — It was called 10^th Ave Salon then. I chose him because he was inexpensive ($ 20 at the time), and I didn’t need anything fancy. I have straight black hair, so it’s often just a trim or adding some layers. Why I stayed with him until the day I left SF, and even now when I return to visit, is because he does an amazing job.
I usually arrive to my appointments with an idea of how I want my hair cut, sometimes with photographs as well. Chris will gently remind me that many hairstyles don’t look quite the same on black hair (boo!) — like how a wispy short do will not look nice on my thick straight hair. I’ve really learned to appreciate his opinion, and that’s what they are. He never dictates my style. He’s yet to fail me. In addition, Chris cut my hair twice now for donations to Locks of Love. I’ve loved my short dos after both haircuts. Over the past 11 or 12 years, his prices have gone up quite a bit (not unreasonably so with inflation) and his salon is a bit trendier, but what matters is the haircuts still maintain the same quality. I’m sad to be across the country now, where I’ve yet to find a new «hair guy», but I will continue to stop here for a cut or trip whenever I’m in town.

Chris is fantastic! I’ve been getting my hair cut by him for over 5 years! My friend referred me to him and she’s been getting her hair cut by him for nearly a decade! There is a reason people go to Chris; he is fast but detailed. He will make sure you both agree on the type of haircut you want and gives you advice on the best style depending on your lifestyle. I highly recommend Chris!

Before I lived in the city I went to they same hairstylist for 3 – 4 years and didn’t trust anyone else to do my hair (even when she was on maternity leave,) After I moved to SF I still went to here when I could whether it was every 4 months, once a year, or even when I was in town (which is now much rarer.) I had to go to find someone in the city and couldn’t put it off any longer. I went to someone that I saw was in the neighborhood. Huge mistake. Hated my hair and couldn’t trust anyone to do it again. Recently I realized I needed to make an appointment with my old hair stylist for an upcoming wedding I was participating in, in sept, only to find out she’s on maternity leave till October! Awesome for her but bad for me since I needed a haircut for Sep AND another wedding in October (where she will still be on maternity leave.) So I decided to buck up the courage to find someone in town again but with way more research!
On Unilocal!I kid you not, all I see are 5 start reviews for this salon, for Amanda or for Chris (who was there and was just as attentive to this customers as well.) So I decided that I wanted to go here and with in an hour im walking in to the shop. It’s a awesome shop with the comfiest most rad looking chairs in the world. Both are hard at work but still acknowledge me, that made me feel great! :D
Amanda was the hugest sweetheart in the world! She asked me about my hair history, what I wanted to do with my hair, gave me amazing advice to do with my hair and just dealt with how messed up it was. She is definitely worth going too and I made an appointment for next month on the spot. She was great at making conversation while working and she let you know every step of the way. She wasn’t rough (like the lady at the salon by 9^th and Lincoln) with my hair at all. She was even great with doing an something a bit out of the box (I wanted a undercut where my hair ends at my neck in a shape of a triangle! Came out stunning!)
I have found my new hair goddess!

Amanda gave me what is easily the best hair cut I’ve ever had. I came in saying «Like this, but shorter» (I know, I’m terrible), and came away with so much more. She asked me questions I’d never have thought of, like what my favorite ways are to wear my hair and how often I want to get my hair cut, and she came up with a versatile, low-​maintenance style that looked fantastic (and still does months later). It does the spiral-​y thing I love without my having to do anything to it, like magic!

I have never been SO happy with short hair! Every time I get a short haircut, I always end up disappointed. But today, I decided to give short hair another try. Today was my first time at G salon. I booked an appointment with Chris and let me say, Chris is amazing! He makes sure that you are comfortable and that you are informed of what he will do to your hair. All things the previous reviewers are saying about him, are TRUE; Chris is an ARTIST and is amazing when it comes to making sure that you are happy with your hair. (By the way, I even received compliments after leaving the salon!) I highly recommend Chris! :) Chris if you ever see this, THANK YOU! I will be coming back in a couple of months!

Parking may be tricky in this area. It is near golden gate park and lots of good food.
Chris has been my stylist since 2010 when he was at another location. He knows the latest styles and most importantly he knows how to handle Asian hair! I got all my short pixie cuts from him. It is very hard to find someone who can do short Asian hair cuts well. I’ve tried so many place prior to finding Chris. I recommended all my friends to him and they all love his work. His hair cuts differs from other stylist because it looks good for a longer period of time. It also doesn’t need products to keep it looking good.
His price is still reasonable. Last time I was there, it was 60 $.
I almost can’t go to other hair salons after seeing Chris.

Amanda has been my hairdresser steadily for the last three years, and occasionally she cut my hair when I was living outside of the Bay Area over the last six years. I see her regularly for my cut, color and styling needs. And I just started seeing her for Keratin Smoothing Treatments as well! I followed her over to G Salon after she left Supercuts, and this new salon is a real pleasure to visit! The lighting is very homey with a stylish, modern décor. Amanda sat me down, discussed thoroughly what I was looking for in a style and color, and offered me a hot cup of tea while she prepared her tools.
My hair is really long, thick, and curly (think loose banana curls that don’t easily straighten without extremely high heat). I don’t trust anyone with my hair unless they truly understand the nature of curls. Amanda has my stamp of approval here, as she recognizes the need to essentially provide two separate cuts so that I can wear my hair both straight and curly. And if anything doesn’t fall quite right or needs adjustment, she encourages me to come back and see her for a courtesy touch up! A month or two later, I still find friends and coworkers commenting on how nice my hair looks.
Most recently she asked if I would be willing to come in and try out the Coppola Keratin Treatment product and procedure that she is certified to perform. It took a couple of hours to apply the product and comb it all through, let the chemicals sit, and then blow dry and straighten every tiny section of my long, thick hair. It looks fantastic! I LOVE how healthy and shiny my hair feels after having the smoothing treatment done! It takes about half the time that it used to for my hair to dry now and I am no longer encircled by my usual halo of frizz. My hair used to be so dry regardless of the various products I tried to keep it relatively tame. It is so much easier to style now, and I received so many compliments on how nice the color and cut looked — even more after the keratin treatment than I usually do!
I love going to see Amanda for my hair care needs. She is easy to talk to, attentive to truly understanding the style that I am requesting, and realistic and forthcoming in what styles will and won’t work with my hair type and facial structure. She also has her own sense of style that is both cutting edge and artistic while still staying current and fashionable. I cannot recommend her highly enough!

Being new to the area, I was in desperate need of a bangs cut and was able to schedule a visit two days prior to my appointment. Amanda did a great job taking her time with my hair and really asking me if I liked the cut or wanted anything differently! Pricing is reasonable, as well.

This review is for Mable. Everytime I come to sf, I come to Mabel first day to get my haircut. She is detailed and provides much care in creating a look that fits you and that you’d be comfortable with it. Thank you Mabel and I look forward to my next visit!

If there were 10 stars on Unilocal I would give Amanda a 10 star review! She is, without a doubt, one of the very best hair dressers I have ever been to, and I have been to some really good ones back when I lived in NYC and then when I first moved out to San Francisco.
What makes Amanda so great is that she really listens to you, and really cares about how you look when you leave her salon. She is an incredibly grounded and nurturing person and has always made me feel really well cared for.
I’m not going to say that I’m the easiest client to please, as I often start getting nervous when I see that a hair dresser is going ‘off course’ or diverting into a hair cut style that I didn’t ask for and that is going to make me worse than when I came in.
I have gone to Amanda three times now, and EVERY time, I come out of her salon looking AMAZING, better than I could have imagined, getting at least three compliments right afterwards, with people asking me where I got that wonderful hair cut.
I hope to continue going to her for a very long time.
**Edited to add: I just came from my first coloring with Amanda today and I could not be more pleased. She chose just the right color for me (we had to even out the various colors of my hair that were a result of too many boxed hair coloring attempts on my part). I ‘m looking forward to going back for highlights next.

Amanda has been cutting my hair for several years now. She has a keen eye for whats works for a person, will indulge in experiements*, and isn’t afraid to nudge me away from a hair idea that isn’t gunna work. Highly recommended.
*my most recent haircut started with bleaching and then after exposing some very unflattering color desposits, we procceeded to add grey. Amanda was like an artist, adding color with wild zeal until it was just right. Now my hair is a fantastic, moving bouquet of colors from bright blond to old grey and all sorts of brown tones in between.

For the past several years, I’ve been horrible at going in for regular haircuts — once every three months, once every six months… whatever. How did I trick myself into getting regular haircuts? I became a full-​fledged redhead, and now I need those roots done and the overall red freshened up regularly.
It took me about six months to get brave enough to finally do it, and Amanda was fantastic at helping me go through with it. I explained to her what I wanted, showed her a whole range of reds I liked, told her how nervous I was, and she told me «I think I know what’ll work well with your skin tone». Now it’s what my friends refer to as «bombshell red», people who don’t know any better think it grows out of my head looking like this, and I love it. Every four to five weeks I’m back to get re-​redded.
She’s great with haircuts too — my hair doesn’t drive me crazy curling in the wrong places and I have curly hair, so I’ve had people really butcher my curls before. Not ok. I’m just very thankful to have found someone who really knows how to work with my hair.

Chris is the only person I trust with my hair. I refuse to let anyone else cut my hair. I started going to Chris when he was at 10^th Avenue Salon and continue to see him now that he is at G Salon (just around the corner from the previous location!)
Chris will NEVER…
–Give you 1 cm bangs
–Give you a mullet
–Give you crooked layers
–Most importantly, Chris will never make you leave the salon in tears
(The above are all things OTHER salons did to me without fail)
Chris will ALWAYS…
–Make sure he thoroughly understands what you want before putting those scissors anywhere near your hair. When I come in and say noncommittally, «Yes please cut off an inch», he won’t make a cut until he shows me his definition of «an inch» with his fingers and has me confirm.
–Make sure he’s giving you a haircut that will actually look good on you. When I kept coming in for bang trims he eventually suggested that I should grow my bangs out and gave me some tips. That being said, when I actually had bangs he was the only person who knew that «Please trim my bangs» meant «Please make my bangs look GOOD» (unlike other salons who heard, «Please make me look as bad as possible»)
–Make you walk out of the salon with bouncy, voluminous, blowdried look-​at-​me hair
If I ever move out of the Sunset I’m still coming back to get my hair cut here. Never risking getting my hair cut at the mall ever again, not when Chris is around :)

I was looking for a new stylist in the City – I had one I liked in Oakland but going there for a haircut was getting annoying once I had moved. I wanted something in my neighborhood as well, so I went with all the 5-​star reviews and gave Chris a try.
It was fantastic. It’s really amazing to watch him work – so fast but so focused. He really knows what he’s doing. My hair came out looking great and still does – styling it is fast and easy. I think he knows what will look good on you and also listens to what you say in terms of how much time/​energy you plan to spend styling it.
It’s not cheap, but it was no more expensive than what I’ve paid at the last few places I’ve gone. I definitely plan on returning to Chris for my next haircut.

I just had a haircut with Chris and it was a great experience. He is an artist & a professional.
I arrived a few minutes early and was made very comfortable in their waiting area– they have plenty of magazines and a coffee maker. The salon is clean and pretty.
Chris introduced himself and took my coat. His consultation was thorough and informative. I felt very comfortable that he knew what he was going to do with my hair.
The cut was also thorough. Chris explained what he was doing & why.
He took his time and made sure my look was perfect. He even took a few minutes to let me stand up and look at my hair and ask any questions about it.
I’m really happy with my look and I will definitely come back again.
