Attention black men: If you’re looking for a black barber you’re in luck with Bobby at Gemini. He’s hands-​down the best in the Bay Area and I tried more than I can count in my search.
Bobby provides all you can ask for in a barber: attention to detail, knowledge of hair and cuts and styles, respect for client’s demands and amusing stories.
After relocating to SF from the east coast I had months and months of disappointing cuts. It seemed like every line up was jacked, every fade was uneven and they were all jerks to boot. There were supposedly better options in the East Bay but that’s a trek.
The secret’s out and he’s (too!) busy now so call him to set an appointment. Otherwise you may be waiting a while or miss him.
This is my first Unilocal review after lurking for years and hopefully this will save others from the painful cuts I suffered from for months.

Like previously mentioned it’s really difficult to find a black barbershop in the city. Especially since a few have recently closed their doors.
I was walking down Fillmore St. and decided to walk into Gemini and was helped right away by a nice gentlemen named Mississippi. He was awesome and gave me just the fade I wanted (a simple shadow fade)! He really know’s his stuff and has been a barber for 23+ years. Highly recommend checking it out if you need a barber to go to!

I felt the need to write another review for my barber since he moved to this location recently.
As many have mentioned in one way or another, it is difficult for a black guy in a new city to find a barber that is familiar with the styles that we are used to — especially if he is accustomed to the black barbershop experience. And I’m a simple guy, I usually just want a simple cut, temp fade (tapered at the temples and neck), and good shape-​up.
I became a regular customer of Bobby’s in July 2012 shortly after I moved to the city. This guy has style and knows what he’s doing. He will hook you up. You will look good. That is all.
Cons — inconsistent appointment scheduling. I.e. Patience is necessary.
