History

Established in 2001.

Founded by Jerry Hsia in September 2001, Gingko has been furnishing Bay Area homes for over 10 years. Our collection is inspired by the beauty of American and Danish Mid Century design, Art and Crafts and traditional wood working techniques, Gingko Home Furnishings has created a blend of styles perfect for the Bay Area lifestyle. Gingko is a vertically integrated design/​build/​showroom of hand-​crafted walnut furniture. Gingko has showrooms in San Francisco and Mountain View and maintains a warehouse and delivery staff in Palo Alto to support and service our customers.

Business Owner

Jerry is dedicated to helping customers find creative, beautiful, yet value-​driven solutions to their home furnishing needs. After a selling the technology firm he owned and operated in the 90s, Jerry wanted to invest in a more creative enterprise. He designed a small line of solid wood furniture that was hand crafted by expert carpenter’s in Gingko’s Beijing workshop. You can regularly find Jerry working with clients in the Gingko showroom in Mountain View and San Francisco.

We bought a coffee table here and love it. (Posted a pic). It was exactly what we were looking for. You can find mid century classic looking furniture to something more modern. Highly recommend stopping by. Stuff can change week to week. It’s a great alternative to West Elm.

Sarah (store owner) has reached out to me to apologize for the lack of service we experienced when going in to buy our pieces of furniture. While it’s too late now to reconsider buying the pieces we loved but walked away from due to the service issue, I will consider Gingko in the future on account of Sarah’s message.
As I mentioned to Sarah, with smaller stores like Gingko it’s hard to separate out the employees from the brand itself. Since it’s such a small team you can only assume the person you encounter represents the business in its entirety, but I understand from Sarah that this is not the case and her family have spent 10 years building the brand.
Mistakes can happen. Apology accepted.
Noteworthy is that the desk we did purchase that day is a beautiful piece of furniture and we couldn’t be happier with it.

Wow. I just came all the way here with every intent to buy a media console and the salesperson was rude, obnoxious, and basically snorted in response to really simple questions. «Does this table come in other sizes» is a pretty normal question to ask at a furniture store without being met with an obnoxious response.
The guy (with the ponytail) never once got up from his computer to talk to us. He also didn’t make eye contact when we tried to talk to him, and continued to stare at his monitor. He just kept snorting and responding «check the website». Don’t bother coming here.

Do not trust their delivery. I ordered my furnitures on end of March this year. At first, they promised me the furniture will delivery on July 1st. Today already July 22nd. They’re still not sure when the furnitures can delivery. No body follow up. Very poor service!!!

I’ve been in twice now and love the furniture. The one star is for the terrible customer service by the manager. Both times I went in I had to say hello after about 7min or so of walking around, and when I was asking him questions he seemed really annoyed. I really want to buy a couch from here, but I’m debating because I really don’t like how I was treated.

The furniture and the store is actually a 4 ****
But the sales person at the store on Valencia (Brad) doesn’t have a clue about what customer service is.
He sits in front of the terminal all the time, doesn’t even say a word and looks at the monitor in order to make sure there is no chance he can be asked a question, or god forbid volunteer help.
If you do ask, he barely replies annoyed that you did dare to ask something, and still never gets up from his chair.
fortunately if you call the 800 you get very helpful people.
Management should do something about it… as it looks like I am not the first person making this comment.

Very good service! We got a sectional furniture that we really love from the sales floor and theres a little bit of misunderstanding about the custom details that we want for the sectional when we finally got the couch so we decided to give them a call and jerry was very helpful and professional he was able to replace our sectional with no problem and everything was perfect! good customer service too!

I was in sf today and saw this furniture store. The furniture looks nice but the person working didn’t care much about customer service. I walking around for about ten minutes and the guy there never left his seat and I had to say hi to him. About we exchange greetings, he still didn’t ask if I need help. There was a nice looking media center there but I will take my business somewhere else. I’m sure that I can find a similar model out there.

I went to Ginko to help me redo my living room based on seeing how cool some of the things in their window looked. Their manager Jennifer was incredibly helpful in picking out for me some gorgeous fabrics to use on a couch and chair I bought that ended up being the very ones I first saw in their front window. The chair and couch just got delivered last week and it looks stunning. Honestly the entire room looks smarter — kind of how glasses make some people look. My entire place just from this new couch and chair looks remarkably more alive, fresh, interesting and cool. I’ve had three friends over and all said they loved it (2 without prompting) — and one guessed it cost twice what I actually paid for! Jennifer is particularly adept at coming up with really interesting combinations of colors and fabrics and patterns that work with existing furnishings and with my own tastes — she was actually better at figuring out what I like than I am! (I’m one of those people has enough visual sense to know when something looks great but not enough to be able to pick that out from a catalog of materials). Totally recommend Ginko if your place needs a do-​over — ask for Jennifer or Brad there!

The folks at Gingko were great. I saw a Japanese-​style cabinet there, with sliding glass doors and drawers, that looked terrific. But I had a very specific location in mind, between two windows, so the dimensions weren’t going to work with the displayed piece. With Jen’s help in the store, we designed a custom-​made piece in the same style, with different dimensions. We even made the bottom drawer into a false-​drawer: when I remove that front panel (which matches the other drawers) it reveals my surround sound center speaker! A perfect, elegant solution, and the custom piece cost essentially the same as the ready-​made one on display. On top of it all, it’s built really well and is super-​solid, with beautiful wooden joints, and was very reasonably priced. Wow.

This place is legit. You know when you walk in and see a Nakashima butterfly joist holding together a live edge wooden table that you’re in the right spot. The pieces in here are very lovely and all well made. The prices are right on too — not too expensive but more than the cheeps out there (ahem, Ikea, ahem).
The staff is super friendly and happy to make suggestions or sit back and let you try everything. Some of the pieces can be altered to fit your space exactly so do ask about custom alterations if you need them. We bought a child friendly coffee table /​bench that is perfect for our SF apartment. And I was able to carry it out of the store and walk home with it! When does that happen?

Can’t believe there was just one review ahead of mine. I looked high and low for a media cabinet – hard to find just the right size for San Francisco challenge living quarters. I wanted a great design as well as a good price point. I thought I would never find one until Gingko.
I liked the design — Stockholm media cabinet – superb mid-​century modern slightly updated design was well done – the material solid oak was perfect. When I ordered my cabinet in a dark finish they had it but on delivery time it wasn’t available. I was disappointed for a moment but they loaned me one until the one I ordered was available. I waited no longer than a week. They were so nice and worked hard to get exactly what I wanted.
I am enjoying having this quality-​good looking piece in my home!

Gorgeous MCM-​styled furniture with a twist. Despite the Mad Men design craze going on these days, the furniture here manages to stand out from what I’ve seen thanks to exquisite, unique touches such as sofas upholstered with tweed, dressers with Asian-​inspired detailing, or floor lamps with curled driftwood bases — modern, clean lines balanced with cozy, organic warmth. The furniture is all hand-​made and they offer custom options, too. Perfect.
Prices were a bit all over the place, though reasonable. I saw stools for $ 100+, a small sofa for under $ 1000, and bed frames for around $ 1500. I haven’t purchased anything here so I can’t attest to the longevity of the furniture, but from what I can tell the quality seems solid for the price point. Still a bit out of reach for me as a studio renter, but I’d love to one day fill a permanent home with pieces from Gingko.
And the staff lets you browse in peace, which is especially welcome when furniture shopping.
