Golden Nails

A crappy pedicure took 15 minutes here… not enough time spent and you could tell. I had to wait another hour while my roommate got her nails done. She got a full set of acrylics… and they used a nail file instead of the traditional drills that most places have been using for past ten years. They also didn’t have white tips, so the woman painted on the french manicure… and it was fugly. My roommate’s nails looked like tranny/​stripper gone wrong. Hideous. Will not be going back here. Ever.

I’ve been coming here now for a couple of months and this has been my best experience EVER in a quite vast pool of nail salon experience in multiple cities and this is why:
The People
Moy and Tee Bo are two of the most delightful women I’ve ever met. Ever been around someone who just radiates sunshine? That’s Moy! She has the warmest smile and most engaging personality and is a lovely human being. They’re from Cambodia and we’ve spent lots of time talking about what it was like living through the terror reign of Pol Pot. Not the sort of shallow conversation one usually has when getting their nails done. She’s told me a lot about that part of her life. She’s an incredible survivor and to have such a joy for living in spite of all she’s been through makes me grateful to know her. It’s humbling. What a wonderful example of embracing the good things in life.
Back to the salon. You know the clientele love to return again and again. A surprising number of distinguished gentleman clientele, too. If you’re over 60, this may just be the new place to meet men!
The Professionalism
Moy makes it a point to greet every person by name and with a winning smile. Makes you feel welcome and at home. There is absolutely no feel of being on an assembly line. They’ve always fitted me happily each time I’ve walked in.

The French Manicure!
Moy does a french manicure/​pedicure exactly the way I like them done — the white only covers the naturally white part of your nail — it doesn’t go halfway down your fingernail like so many of them do.
This is my absolute favorite in SF and I’ll keep coming back! They’ve got a customer for life!

This place is tucked in a random part of town, Nob Hillish area. The women here are soo sweet & really attentive & speak pretty good english. The women are all family so they are always remembering their customers and definitely have a clientele. Their prices are awesome too, definitely worth the trip!
