Harvey Milk Center Summer Camp

We live 2 blocks away and HMC is our favorite summer camp and year-​round rec center, by far.
Our 7 year old loves both the Summer programs (2-​week sessions with a combination of arts, games and outdoor activities) and the dance program. HMC’s true strength is the dedication of the staff. All the Summer counselors are passionate about their job, with many returning year over year. They provide a welcoming, safe and super-​fun environment and when camp is over my son is always looking forward to the next session.
A special commendation goes to the dance program taught by Ms. Aimee’s. It has year-​round 2-​month sessions both at HMC and Rochambeau. Our son attended both in the past, always with Ms. Aimee, for over 2 years now, more recently at HMC. He simply adores her. She’s incredibly dedicated to teaching kids the basics of dance (Dunham technique). We couldn’t speak moiré highly of this program and its wonderful instructor! My son will attend until he outgrows it for sure.

My 6 year old daughter just completed her second week of camp and just loved it! The staff is amazing, friendly, talented and extremely approachable. The kids produced amazing murals, art projects and learned about percussion instruments. The last day they gave an amazing presentation of what the kids had been learning and produced, it was impressive I will be signing her up next year for sure.

Gotta say that this was our favorite summer camp. It is run by professionals in their fields who really cared. My daughter learned, grew, laughed, and played really hard. All of the things that you really want in a summer camp! It is a fantastic program that I would highly recommend.

My daughter was at various camps this summer and this camp was the only one that I felt was run by experienced, intelligent, compassionate, charismatic, fun adults, instead of teens in training. From the first minute we could feel that this was a far more professionally-​run operation than any other camp we’d seen. I was 100 percent confident that my daughter was in good hands and my only regret was that I hadn’t signed her up for all the sessions. I wish there were more camps like this, as I’m sure once word gets out, it will be impossible to get a spot at this camp. Still, I want to spread the word out about what wonderful people run this camp.

My 6 year old son attended this camp for two weeks this summer, and had a fantastic experience. The counselors were sweet and kind and fun, and the kids made art, learned drumming and capoeira, and went on field trips to playgrounds. Every day when I picked him up, he was relaxed, happy, and pleasantly worn out. Drop-​offs and pick-​ups were simple and convenient, and the staff seemed organized and together.
For 92 dollars a week, you really can’t beat the Rec and Park summer camp programs!
