Specialties
A large neighborhood bar in the front; a live music venue in the back. First, a huge rectangular bar on two levels with big tables, lots of seating and a separate heated smoking lounge. Then, see live shows in a small venue to the back, with up and coming local and touring bands. (We only charge cover in the back room.) It’s mostly rock, but we also showcase other music, comedy and spoken word. Happy hour daily from 4 – 7. Snack? $ 1 bag of hot peanuts.
History
Established in 2001.
The idea from the start was to establish a neighborhood bar business to help subsidize a ‘micro-venue’ in the separate back room. Innovative booking quickly established the venue as a destination on it’s own. This reciprocity has continually strengthened the Hemlock as it has evolved, yet allowed it to remain true to it’s original goal of a down home neighborhood bar with a regular kick in the pants from the venue in the back.
