High Class Nails

I got a simple gel manicure for $ 25 and was very happy with the result. The only con is that they have limited polish choices compared to other salons nearby. Friendly staff and no wait.

makes me sad to only give them two stars but the only thing they did right was cut my nails the length I wanted. there isn’t paint all over my nails like there should be, I see my real nail on the sides. and the paint isn’t even even, there’s ripples. very disappointed.

Picked this place at random, and because it wasn’t busy. Also interesting was the price, half what I pay elsewhere. That should’ve been a warning.
The furniture and carpet are all stained, scuffed, or otherwise distressed, and the walls need a paint job. There are no massage chairs in sight, which I’m pretty sure are standard everywhere else; I was seated in what appeared to be a repurposed office chair. Given the volume of fingernail clippings visible on the carpet just from my position, I have to share the hygiene concerns made by other reviewers.
The quality of the actual mani-​pedi was predictably substandard. I’m pretty sure, for example, that the cuticle scraper should do more than merely touch the nail.
You get what you pay for. I wish I had kept walking.

The woman are really nice and they are a lot cheaper than most places. I had a mani/​pedi and the results were good. I’ll be back!

I was in dire need of a mani/​pedi and pretty much everyone in the neighborhood was booked up for several hours except High Class. So I had to head here and would definitely not be returning.
So here is the only positive about this place — the price. A mani/​pedi is $ 23. Yes, that’s a steal but don’t let the price sway you into this establishment! It’s completely not worth it.
Mid way through my manicure, my manicurist scrapped away a portion of the skin right underneath my cuticle and I started bleeding incessantly. Now I’m not talking about a tiny bit of blood that can be wiped off. It was literally a portion of my skin that was peeled off (I saw the skin!) and blood oozing out. And instead of just apologizing, the manicurist said «You have really thin skin, it’s really bad. It peels easily. That is why it is bleeding. You have bad hand skin.»
WTF. I have been getting mani/​pedis since I was in high school and I have NEVER had anyone tell me that my hand skin is really thin and deserves to just be peeled off. I’m not even upset about the actual skin peeling and blood oozing part. I’m upset about the defensive and idiotic logic that I was presented with. I didn’t even ask her why I’m bleeding — I literally said «ouch» when it happened and she dove into a series of overwhelmingly defensive comments. Please just admit your mistake and fix it. Do not try to blame your customers for your incompetence.
In addition, this is clearly a no frills spot — you don’t have the standard pedicure massage chairs as most places do. The establishment doesn’t look sanitary and I’m really questioning the way they cleanse their equipment.
I would highly encourage you to try one of the other nail spas on 24^th street instead of High Class. Unfortunately, there is nothing high class about this place.

I went in to get my acrylic nails removed which i had gotten elsewhere. There was stuff all over the floor, and when I was seated I was rushed. Rather than soaking off my nails she chopped them awfully short to the point where I look like i barely have a pointer finger nail anymore. Then she ripped off the acrylic. Ouch. My nails are all jagged and uneven and weak. This is not the place to go.

Yes, the women were friendly, but:
1. They used a subpar remover and ended up filing off my polish, resulting in nail damage.
2. I watched them «clean» their tools– a squirt of some blue stuff in the sink– no autoclave in sight.
3. Told my friend she’d have to pay $ 5 extra for using massage chair features even though she was getting her pedi in it
4. The place was crowded, dirty, and an aesthetic nightmare
We ended up walking out and going to Sally’s behind Savor where for a couple bucks more we could feel pampered, not punished.

I’ve been going to Tiffany and Fiona for 2 – 3 years now, and it’s because of this place that my feet look great 90% of the time (the other 10% is my own fault for delaying pedis). It’s super-​convenient. But then so are several others — including Sally’s. I go here because it’s a friendly, unpretentious place; they take walk ins late in the day unlike other places and they are reasonably priced so I get my pedis every 3 – 4 weeks. They won’t put flower petals in your foot soak but they take personal interest in ensuring that the color looks just right on you, even if it means ‘innovating’ with multiple colors.
Minus 1 star for taking in more clients than they can sometimes handle, but I guess they gotta make their rents too.

I’ve been going to the ladies at High Class Nails regularly for several years now. I live in the neighborhood and appreciate the walking distance location, experienced staff and unpretentious atmosphere. Here’s the thing to know about this place: they do quality work, they are friendly and efficient, BUT they take lots of walk-​ins (I rarely make an appointment) so if you are in a hurry or have made an appointment and expect to get out on a strict timeline — esp on a busy day (Fri/​Sat) — don’t count on it.
My advice is to go on Tues/​Wed/​Thurs — morning or mid-​day if you can — and you will find they do very good work and will get you out in a reasonable amount of time for a great price.

I’m a recent transplant to SF by ways of NYC. I’ve had my fair share of nail salon experiences, and this one is pretty crummy.
While the place is clean, and they carry a nice assortment of OPI polishes, the manicure I received today is pure crap. The technician ground my nails down to nubs with a way too abrasive (and heavy-​handed) emory board. She also ground down the tops of my nails too! I asked for «soft square» shaping, and I got round? I’m pissed, because my nails were growing out nicely too. Now I look like a recovering nail biter.
The polish application was the worst! I’d selected a dark purple, almost black, and the first coat was super goopy. Anyone would have put a few drops of polish thinner and gone back to work. not this lady. She trudges through a sloppy, sticky, polish application only to try and clean up my ravaged nail beds after the fact. My pinky nail was the worst… and when I asked her to redo the polish, she attempted to mend the situation by painting additional top coat and then MORE polish on top of the problem area. I then pointedly asked her to «redo the nail… that’s not working.» There are no drying stations, only sunbeam heaters to dry under.
Total waste of $ 12. I shouldn’t have tipped her, really.
Also– they don’t have pedi chairs! I saw another technician filling a rubbermaid tub filled with a trash bag liner. High Class? Methinks not.

I recently moved to Noe Valley and have been looking for a new nail salon I can walk to from my home. I read the Unilocal Reviews prior to going to High Class Nails, and I unfortunately was dissappointed.
I made a point to make an appointment at the salon, and by the time I got there they had no customers. While I was picking out my nail color, a family of 3 were peeking into the salon outside trying to debate whether they should go in or not. The lady that was working convinced them to come in for a pedicure. Kudos to her for bringing in business. However, because there are only 2 people working there, it’s difficult to receive a good amount of service from them. As soon as the family of 3 came in and sat down, the 2 ladies in the salon rushed to them and did their pedicures while I was soaking my nails, waiting for 20 minutes. It was very frustrating that the walk-​in had higher priority over me when I had made the appointment.
Because there are only 2 ladies working there, they don’t spend a lot of time perfecting your nails. The manicure and pedicure was rushed, and I argued with the lady doing my manicure because I wanted to have her file my nails more, and she didn’t think I needed it. She reluctantly agreed to file them down more, but they were still not done well. Their saving grace was when the other lady came and did the pedicure, she clearly saw that my nails were crooked and fixed them.
The pricing is good, and it’s clear that they do have a good amount of loyal customers. Many of the people that walked in after were regulars, would talk with the ladies and see how their family is doing, so when seeing their relationships a bit later I have to believe that for some people they do provide a good amount of customer service. However as a newcomer, I was dissappointed with their level of customer service and outcome, my nails do not look like they were professionally done at this point.

I love this place! they are always friendly and take their time, they do have a hard time saying no to the countless walk ins, who would no one wants to turn down business! so take a little extra time and make an appointment you will happy you did!

THE ABSOLUTE WORST PEDICURE I’VE EVER SEEN!
The lady was super nice, but she was so gentle, she didn’t even push back any cuticle, or scrub the bottom of my feet. it was like she was pretending to do the task. I guess her overseer knew what was going on and came over and had to do it completely over which made me late to work. Both ladies cut me with the cuticle remover and one toe is still throbbing 24hours later. My cuticle is black and blue. I can’t believe this happened. Please pay the few extra dollars and go somewhere that they train their staff.

Do not let Tiffany wax your brows! She did an awful awful job. Totally uneven.
The mani pedi is very mediocre.

Came in for a french manicure. Started off great — the manicurist was friendly, etc but a couple of things went wrong:
1. Periodically, she would walk away for an extended period of time. I would hear her just standing behind a wall, talking with someone. Odd.
2. Before she even started applying the base, asked me to pay — which I guess is standard — but then she asked me whether I had cash for the tip. Ok, I understand that we are in America and tip is pretty much expected. However, last time I checked, the amount of the tip had a direct correlation to the service, which at that point in time, was not yet provided. I didn’t appreciate it.
3. My french tips looked awful — I’ve done about the same, if not better, doing my own nails… for FREE. Ugh… what a disappointment and a waste of $ 14.
Needless to say, I won’t be coming back.

If there was a zero star rating that’s what I would choose. Horrible Horrible Horrible place. They take in way more clients then they can handle and the place has gone downhill over the past few months.
My first experience was during the week and I loved it there. They were friendly and took the time to work on me though they tried to charge me for lotion which I refused.
On the weekend they are just not worth it. I was told to sit and soak my feet and I did. 30 minutes later and noone was still available to do my pedicure. So I got up to leave and they yelled at each other and one of the girls left another client and came to start working on me. By then I had noticed that the entire floor was covered with nail clippings YUCK. The lady rushed through my pedicure and didn’t do any clean up on my cuticles or give me a massage.
DON’T GO THERE!

My wife brings me here for a pedicure before go on our yearly tropical vacations. I’m gonna be wearing flip flops for the next 3 weeks and she doesn’t want to look at ugly toes. Whatever!
The pedicurists (I guess thats what they are called) are good and really make my feet look great (according to my wife). The price includes soaking, nail trims and filing, filing of feet calluses and lotion with a massage

I was suspicious about the quality of a $ 14 pedi… in Boston I usually pay $ 25 for the most ‘economy’ pedi in town.
After more than a half dozen visits to High Class for pedicures (and in one case a neck massage WITH the pedi) I can say that it’s a FABULOUS value.
I don’t even live in San Francisco and the owner and her staff seem to remember who I am referencing my last visit with them each time I show up… i.e. I was in for a pedi in April and they remembered that I was in on Valentine’s weekend in February. (they appear to keep no records)
They are almost always busy with what appear to be 100% walk– ins. I’ve never waited more than 20 mins… they are efficient.
It’s not the most ‘full service’ of pedicures from the ‘spa-​style’ perspective but it’s decent. Generally lasting 30 mins. They have a wide selection of colors representing several brands of polish. They even sell groovy flip flops for $ 2– if you forget to bring some with you!
Tiffany is the owner and she lives nearby… one day when they were unexpectedly busy one of her staff called her and she was there in 10 minutes flat and behind the mani table picking up the slack.
I like this place and will continue to go back each time I am in San Francisco. :)

I went here to get a full set of french acrylics done before my prom. This was the first time I’d ever gotten acrylics and I didn’t want to spend a ton of money. They charge $ 25 for the set (+$ 2 for the gloss) which, after shopping around, didn’t seem that bad to me. I made an appointment for my friend and I, and they were very nice and prompt. Everything was all ready for us when we walked in. The woman who did my nails — the owner I think? — was friendly, and after I explained that this was my first time with acrylics, answered all my questions. I also got a pretty standard pedicure for about fourteen bucks.
So why only 2 stars?
First off, she wouldn’t really listen to me when I said I wanted my nails filed more round. I know that the normal thing is to have acrylics pretty square, but the point is I didn’t want that, and she kept arguing with me. I had to ask her like four times before she finally relented.
Second, it turned out to be a bit of a sloppy job. One of the thumbs was on a little crooked and it was only about 3 days before cracks started to show up in the acrylics. Now, I know I’m new to this, but aren’t these things supposed to look pretty good for at least a week and a half? Only a week later, I had to go in to another place and get them taken off they looked so bad.
Now I know, you get you pay for, but I paid about 30 bucks total. And the result was about the same if I’d gone to Walgreen and got those press-​ons that you file down yourself.
ALSO, my friend said that woman who did her manicure had some sort of weird disease-​y looking thing on her finger, which she didn’t do anything about. Although, we did see her put on a glove to do another woman’s pedicure. I don’t know what that’s about, but it cannot be good.
