Holy Gelato!

I’m not an expert on gelato, but this was one of the most flavorful I have ever had. I ordered a small cup with tango mango and some raspberry one and they both had intense flavors. Don’t let the amount of gelato in the tubs deceive your eyes. I thought the ones with less were the more popular flavors, but I was wrong. The lady explained to me that the tubs with more were the popular flavors because she refills them to the top knowing that customers reach for that flavor often. Overall, great gelato.

Gelato and sorbet were OK, nothing great. If we consider price then I would say it’s below average. I tried Tiramisu, Strawberry and Mango Sorbet. Both strawberry and mango had a taste of artificial flavors. Tiramisu was more like frozen coffee latte with milk powder/​solids.
Also, their service for to-​go sucks. I got 6 gelato cups and they didn’t come in appropriate cups or cup holder or carry bags.
* Cup lid easily came off from 3 cups and it got messy
* Cups have narrow base and their carry bag was a small and thing brown bag with no holding base
* Server tried to fit in 4 cups in 1 bag, even though 3 could barely fit in
It was a circus carrying this home. Obviously some gelato came out of cup and on my hands.
People won’t mind if you charge more $ for good carry bag or to-​go cups as without proper carry bags their $ 35 – 45 (approximate price for 6 – 8 medium cups) might be wasted anyway.

Came here one night after dinner. It’s a really cute shop. They have vegan options and dairy options. I tried the coconut and the banana nut. Both were good. The coconut have bits of dried coconut mixed in and the banana nut was nice.
Don’t be afraid to sample. I sampled the goat cheese gelato. It definitely tasted like goat cheese.
They have lunch boxes and mugs here for sale as well.
I wasn’t blown away with the taste.

Really good Gelato. For $ 4.99 you get a medium cup and can fill it with four different flavours. They have milk based (similar to ice cream) and vegan based (similar to sorbets). Try to stay away from the typical flavours (chocolate mint) and try the more interesting flavours. The mango is a must!

TLDR: I would give 6 stars if I could for the mental health benefits of this establishment.
There’s something to be said when you’ve had a real crappy day, you’re on the verge of tears, it’s cold and foggy, you’re stranded in the sunset, and you realize that the only cure is Holy Gelato. This place is now unfortunately a very rare treat for me, but one of which I think fondly and often. Particularly the honey lavender (puts bi-​rite to shame)+cinnamon combination. Totally worth temporarily setting aside health issues (although one could get those vegan flavors… I’ve never been disappointed here.)
Walking in to the FRIENDLIEST people you’ll ever meet dishing out the most delicious indulgence-​nay, necessity-​was the best thing to happen to me today. Sure your problems are still waiting for you outside, but what a way to momentarily escape them.

This is personally my favorite gelateria in San Francisco because of its delicious unique flavors and excellent customer service. My favorite flavors include honey lavender, goat cheese, and guava sorbet. Holy Gelato also has many vegan options. These flavors are either coconut-​based or almond-​milk-​based, making them good alternatives if you are lactose-​intolerant! One of the yummy unique vegan flavors is Thai Iced Tea and it’s great!

I believe this is one of 2 gelato shops in the sunset neighborhood. They serve a variety of dairy based gelatos as well as vegan based (soy and coconut milk). Their gelatos have really cute decorations on them and I believe they rotate their flavors. I enjoyed their crème burlee and their vegan thai tea — both flavors really strong!
You can get the smallest size they have $ 3.65 with 1 – 2 flavors. And the gelato is served in a reusable cup too! The only downfall of this shop is that they only let you sample up to 2 flavors.
The interior is really cute and decorated with cartoon tees, lunchboxes which you can buy. They have limited seating and have a $.65 fee for using credit cards so bring cash!

Vegan coconut cream options are definitely flavorful, however, a bit cloying with the sweetness. There are two of the coconut based ‘ice creams’: one is a simple coconut and the other was sort of a mix of chocolate/​coconut with crunchy bits, I think called ‘Irish heaven’. Both were more on the icy side, not so creamy and the coconut one reminded me of those coconut paletas you can purchase from the cart in Dolores Park. They offer about 12 vegan options and my friend really enjoyed the two soy based flavors she ordered, I think one was a Mexican chocolate and the other a brownie chocolate???
If you like soy based ice creams, check it out. However, for the coconut cream based ice creams, I still prefer Luna and Larry’s Coconut Bliss flavors.

It’s a nice walk after Chinese food. Even though it’s chilly, I’m loving this cookies and cream. The strawberry is yummy, a bit sour. I tried the pistachio and its light but real bits in the cream. It’s a good place. The mini, smallest size, is good enuf for me.

I am super in love with this place! Went here for my cheat day, and it felt so good and yummy to eat some cold gelato! I got the sea salt caramel and the chocolate hazelnut, which was a super good mix! I give a ¹⁰⁄₁₀ for both flavors, it really melts in your mouth, and the flavors are there.
The staff who helped me was super nice and was willing to let me try multiple flavors (although they limit to two)!
I would say this is place is a cheap price for some good gelato, and I am definitely coming back to try more flavors in a bigger sized cup.

I love how this place has a whole vegan case! I got the Charlie Brown’s Nightmare and loved it! I would definitely come back here!

I was wondering around the area for a place for snacking and saw this small gelato place.
There was like only one other person in this shop so I thought I’d give it a try, I haven’t had good gelato in the city yet. The ones in Little Italy I did not like.
I had a small cup of Charlie Brown and White Chocolate Raspberry. I never tried vegan gelato/​ice cream before but man this is tasty. I’d never been a fan of vegan stuff before this. Totally creamy, lots of stuff in it, and you can taste every flavor in there.

They always have YODA (green tea) which I really enjoy. It tastes like matcha latte which is one of my favorite drinks so naturally i love it in gelato form as well .
Today I also got the coffee dutch (i believe that was what it was called) which is coffee with some almond pieces and it tasted amazinggg. I loved the little almond pieces they were the perfect compliment to the coffee gelato .
For those who are lactose-​intolerant they have options for you as well which I think is awesome since you can satisfy your cravings without the pain .
They have a surcharge for cards so best to bring cash!

I’m really glad this place is not too far away from where I live, their «gelato» flavors are off the wall and delicious, it’s kind of a bummer that you can only try two flavors, due to the fact that they all seem delicious.
I always get the goat cheese and their (devilish) chocolate, their goat cheese is on point, you can definitely taste the goat cheese in their ice cream, it’s easily in the top 5 ice cream flavors I had. The devilish chocolate resembles a really rich dark chocolate, yum!
In my opinion they make great ice cream, however they claim it’s gelato, from what I know gelato is creamier and is served closer to room temperature so it could easily be scooped and molded.
Quick tip, take cash if you can because they have a 65 cent charge for cards.

Holy Gelato, that’s some expensive dessert you got there. After eating at San Tung’s, we decided to walk around SF trying to walk off those chicken wings. But of course that meant going to Unilocal and looking for any nearby dessert shops. Holy Gelato! sounded promising, so we walked the few blocks and came to a pretty small gelato shop that was quite packed.
So the ambience of Holy Gelato! is pretty unique. It’s a really small shop that sells primarily gelato; however, they also have gelato drinks, rice pudding, cookies, gelato sandwich. They even sell vegan gelato, which is pretty neat! There are a few tables and chairs, but the shop is so crammed with odds and ends that it’s hard to navigate through when there are quite a few customers. I would say the idea of going on a date here is ideal, but if you come during a busy time, you’re going to have to find a place to sit and chat elsewhere.
There’s definitely a number of interesting flavors here, especially in their vegan case. But, either we were limited to a number of flavors we could try or the lady helping us looked annoyed that we wanted to try more than 1 flavor, so we weren’t able to try the more appealing and unique flavors.
Pricewise, I feel that the gelato here does run on the slightly more expensive side — but perhaps it’s because the storefront is located in SF. A mini with 1 – 2 flavors is $ 3.35, a small with 1 – 2 is $ 4.25, a medium with 1 – 4 is $ 4.99, etc. We were already so full, so we decided to split a small gelato.
Strawberry: It did taste very fresh and smooth. I wouldn’t say it’s the most amazing gelato/​ice cream I’ve ever had, but I can definitely appreciate the quality of the gelato. There were real strawberries packed throughout the cup, which was really nice.
Mint chocolate chip: I thought this was just okay. The flavor could have been a bit heavier, but nonetheless it was decent and refreshing. They did pack more strawberry in the cup than mint chocolate chip, and having the two flavors mix together wasn’t the best combination.
tl;dr — I guess SF is so impacted by popular ice cream places, that people sometimes overlook these smaller and more local shops. I personally don’t know if I would return, just because I felt the service was not that great, prices were quite high, and. there are so many other popular places that me, being a tourist, can visit — but I do see the quality that Holy Gelato! has to offer, especially in terms of their vegan gelato flavors. But for me, it was just a 3 star experience.

Tiny little cute place in Sunset Hts neighborhood. Delicious, creamy, not-​too-​sweet gelato in many unique flavors. prices not bad for SF. I had the lavender-​honey and the green tea, both excellent. The mango sorbet was incredible as well, lots of good vegan options to choose from.
When we were there, there was no wait at all, and we were able to sit at a table and enjoy. Crazy, fun selection of items for sale in the gift shop, too.
Excellent, warm, wonderful service, so friendly, a great experience. Homemade hot cookies right outta the oven, too.

I’ve been here once before but forgot what flavors I had then. This time, I came around 2:30pm on a Saturday and it wasn’t very crowded. I tried a few sample flavors, which were the cinnamon and hazelnut. They didn’t give a strong impression. I ended up having a small cup of the passion fruit and Thai tea. The passion fruit was very tart but it is what I would expect from a fruity gelato flavor. The Thai tea was fairly good, however it wasn’t exactly alike a real Thai ice tea if you’ve ever drank one before.
Overall, I like the décor and atmosphere, the lady was nice. The crowd is decent and the area is friendly. Parking is tough though. Metered parking exists but usually full on weekends.
There is a credit card fee of about $ 0.70, so cash is preferred.

Probably the most vegan flavored ice cream place you can ever run into!
They have so many fun flavors! And not to mention they have the regular flavors as well.

Average gelato that’s overpriced in a pretty chill ice cream shop in the sunset!
FOOD: First time I was here I got a small serving ($ 4.25) of Charlie Brown’s nightmare (with was basically chocolate with peanut butter and nuts) and banana chocolate with walnuts on a sugar cone ($ 0.35 extra). Charlie Brown was okay… but I found icicles in parts of the gelato. WHAT THE HECK. Also there was a weird taste to the chocolate part. I liked the banana chocolate walnut, which had a pretty strong banana flavor to it.
Second time I was there I also the Charlie Brown again (I don’t know why.) and hazelnut chocolate, which I do recommend.
PRICE: Small serving (1 – 2 flavors) is $ 4.25. With a sugar cone it is $ 5. This is on the expensive side, also considering the serving size is PRETTY SMALL and the gelato quality was so so…
SETTING: The shop is pretty cute! Plenty of seats inside and a bench on the outside to sit down and enjoy your cold dessert.
SERVICE: The gal there is pretty nice about helping us with sampling, but the sample size is just a tad bit too little — I couldn’t really tell if I liked the flavor or not with a few drips of gelato!!! There was also a sign for trying out a max of 2 flavors. Eh what. What if you don’t like those 2 flavors?
OVERALL IMPRESSION: Definitely had better gelato/​ice cream elsewhere. Also overpriced.
