I went today(a Sunday) with a friend and found the place closed with no indication as to why or when it would be open again. If it’s supposed to be a brunch place then I am confused. Maybe it’s gone out of business.

I like this place. I really do. But there are better places to get brunch in the city. The price point is a little steep for what they are offering: both in terms of quantity and in terms of quality. The good stuff: the staff are really nice and chill(a bonus when brunching), and you get to eat out on the sidewalk. I’d recommend this place if price isn’t an issue and you want to eat outside with one to three friends.

Fantastic. I loved the Badonkadonk, Korean Pancake, and Hibiscus juice. Just sit outside and enjoy the sun, worth any wait.

How is it possible these people can be so adorable and talented at the same time? So, lured by mimosas, and the promise of a vegan meatball sandwich that another Unilocaler mentioned, I headed down for brunch one fine day. When I arrived, I was glad that I had pre-caffeinated, because it seemed like it wasn’t that sort of brunch place. There was no meatball sandwich on the menu, sadly, but I was spoiled for choice, and my friend and I ordered a number of items to share. The bread pudding was not yet ready when I got there, but partway through the meal, they sent some day old bread pudding over to the table, which was delicious. Then after we paid the bill, they sent us a complimentary order of fresh, hot gooey bread pudding, and I almost died of happiness. How adorable. More please!

Yes, it can be very slow, but there are only two people cooking on 6 burners and a fry daddy. Everything is vegan, fresh, colorful and delicious. The flatbread is sooooo good and keeps me coming back for more. The Jesus, Joseph and Mary is my favorite, but the Dirty 30 and Wanna Cara get an honorable mention. I think I heard they are no longer doing this, but that is just hearsay. Please don’t stop. I am far from a vegetarian, let alone vegan, and absolutely love this«place».

Let’s start with the obvious: life isn’t always rainbows and ponies(even mine, which I must admit has been more rainbows and ponies than most). Right now, it’s more tornados and shark-invested waters. Over the last two months, I’ve watched my family bury a beloved son after a tragic, traumatic death; been betrayed by a person I trusted; and am witnessing my favorite cousin spiral into a darkness of unknowable depth and duration. All the while trying to stay strong, present and positive for her and the rest of my inconsolable family. But don’t get it twisted, this review isn’t a pity party for one(more like a zygote of a pity party). It’s about celebrating the fact that life always flows, and even while traveling through the valley, there are many, many peaks. This place was one of them. On a beautiful, recent Saturday, I had the pleasure of brunching here with some of my closest friends. I’ve been away from the city for a while, and entering this place is like running straight into the patchoulie-scented, hemp-bra’ed bosom of San Francisco. And I really f*ckin’ needed that hug. Beautiful bright light, a decidedly unkempt appearance, and food that once again proves that even the lesser-heralded SF chefs can definitely hang with most of Chicago’s best. I had the Jesus, Joseph, and Mary(a Catholic of Indian extraction): dill flavored wheat roti topped with brown rice, a motley crew of wild mushrooms, avocado, and lemon-dressed spinach. Serve it up with a side of ginger tea, belly laughs, real talk, and true soulmates and life does not suck. Maya Angelou once said: «Don’t let the facts obscure the truth.» The facts of my life may suck right now, but the truth is: life is full of light. Thanks for reminding me of that, Homemade Hustle.

i can dig it. heard it was their last weekend at little baobob so the dr. and i headed over for brunch saturday. the place wasn’t crowded per se but sufficiently full. we were told it would be a ½ hour wait but it was a little less than that before we were seated. the first thing i noticed is that everyone seemed to know one another. people moved from table to table, inside and out, to talk to one another. i felt a bit out of the loop but hey, i’m here to eat right? the music, the sun and the cute sleepy dog made the wait for food bearable. i’m assuming the crowd was composed of a lot of friends of the peeps who run this brunch who stopped by as support for the last weekend. we started with the fo’ sho’ and i have no idea what was in those korean pancakes but loveliness and a bit o’ grease. i wolfed because i was starving. the dipping sauce was nice but if i had a bottle of mirin in my pocket i’d pour some in. followed up by the in yo face, i was overwhelmed by the gigantic bowl of noodles and veggies all covered in shredded purbple cabbage and some jalapenos. the thick noodles are ones i looooove, love, love but they seemed a little too greasy for me and i ended up pouring a good deal of the dipping sauce from the fo sho over my dish to add some salt, which seemed lacking. i’m giving a soild 4 stars though as there are not very many places a vegan can head to brunch and not have to worry about the menu, the über creative brunch fare and the laid back atmosphere. the food i’ll give another shot at whatever their new incarnation may be.

First all I’m glad I got to go before they go underground. They told us today they will no longer be at Little Baobob so get on their mailing list ASAP! Everything about this experience was simply perfect. Super chill crowd, great creative vegan food, and some great background beats for ambiance. The Durty 30′ was my favorite after sampling from all 4 of our dishes. Definitely something I will be recreating at home. The Ginger Tea was pretty amazing as well. Can’t wait to hit up the Homemade Hustle again in their new incarnation!

seriously i haven’t reviewed this yet? best brunch ever. durty 30 is the best. the fresh flatbread is where it’s at. however, the meatball sub was amazing, the korean pancakes were awesome, the bread pudding is delicious and the ever-changing potato salad is incredible. they are so nice to my little boy when we bring him in. nobody is in a rush so be prepared to wait for your server to finish dancing before s/he brings your drink. it’s worth it.

Really enjoyed my early lunch there on Sunday. Not only was the food delicious, but my ginger beverage was just what the doctor ordered after attending a super fun wedding the night before. Food — I had the fo’ sho’, which I loved. I am a hater of broccoli(bad association from childhood) but this dish incorporated it in such a way that it was more than likable. Oh no, I now recall that I didn’t receive any kim chi. :o(The kale that came with the dish was scrumptious; I will be trying to figure out how to make kale like that at home soon. More than the food, I loved my server! Can’t recall the fellow’s name, but he appeared to really like his job. He mothered us a bit and insisted that we consume some roughage prior to our entrée. Not a problem, I need that sort of encouragement sometimes. Also, the folks there walked around with a proper seeded watermelon for their customers to enjoy. Great experience and I’ll certainly be back.

The vegan meatball sub with home-made marinara sauce, now a mainstay on the menu, will leave you wonderfully satisfied. Their French toast with a bit of ginger and lemon zest will cure your sweet tooth and there’s the inside bar where you can get hot tea, mimosas, sangria, and more. We’ve been going to this delicious brunch every week since it’s inception back in April. We love the food and the laid back attitude. The warn you that they do «slow food» and it’s not a lie. Expect a nice relaxing hour or two in the sun with a few mimosas before your brunch arrives.

Babs and Nikole def. offer the best vegan brunch in the city. Its vegan yes, but most of the people that come to brunch are not … thats just how good it is. I LOVE my meats but also feel really good and healthy when i order the Durty 30 seitan sandwich every Saturday. Knowing that the seitan was made fresh the night before and that the flat bread is made to order. It also comes with a side off fresh greens that as a carnivore i do not recognize but must admit i enjoy. Mmm Mmm Good. @ Kristina M. Really sorry to hear you had a bad experience there. I was also at that mothersday brunch. It was a VERY busy day for Homemade Hustle.(the biggest event they’ve ever done + they had their mothers attending from out of town) I had some friends that weren’t even able to make it in on the sidelines like you did, so while it wasn’t the best of experiences for you, you were ‘lucky’ to get in /served.(my friends were really bummed they couldn’t go that day, perhaps it was for the best that they didn’t get in on the sidelines like you) …I highly recommend giving them another go.(and order the durty 30) :D TIP: Homemade Hustle only serves the food, all drinks need to be ordered separately from the café’s barista.

Since becoming a vegetarian 11 years ago, I have missed 2 things: BBQ and meatball sandwiches. Lucky for me, Homemade Hustle has them both(though the meatball sandwich is not on the menu officially). The food was good and FRESH(seitan is made the night before!) and the sun soaked sidewalk brunch ambience with $ 5 mimosas could not be beat.

One of the best brunches I’ve ever had in the city! Ever since Weird Fish did away with their brunch(as well as most of their vegan dishes), I’ve been YEARNING(yes, YEARNING) for a replacement. I got the Wannacara(fried black eyed peas with a coconutty sauce) and it was delicious! Basically I want to try everything on the menu twice. Service was laid back and incredibly accommodating to our party of 6 + one pup. If you’re biased against vegan food(you shouldn’t be, asshole, but whatever), you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the food here. In fact, there were only two vegans in our group, but everyone left full and happy!

Homemade Hustle has started to do a vegan brunch on Saturdays at Bollyhood in the Mission. It’s obvious they put a lot of effort into the brunch, from the entertaining menu(«I’ll have the Badonkadonk bread pudding, please) to the gorgeous presentation. I’m not vegan, but I’m a sucker for fresh, colorful, delicious, amazing food. :-) My only critique is that they seemed disorganized… the process of ordering was a little confusing, and it was obvious that they still need to work out a few kinks. Hopefully that will go a little more smoothly next time.
