Hoop the Flow

I took the beginner series (5 classes) with Tiia, and Ive already learned so much and it’s been such a fun experience and great workout.
I was a bit nervous to begin the class since my hooping skills are pretty subpar but there really was no need to worry! Everyone’s just having a great time and Tiia is a delightful teacher and really good at breaking down the moves so that it’s understandable. It’s also so mesmerizing watching her dance and demonstrate. She makes it look so easy!
The space is really nice with giant mirrors. There’s meter street parking nearby. You can borrow hoops or buy her collapsible hoops for $ 40 each.
I’m definitely going to continue on and take more classes if they offer it.

This was my first introduction to hooping and it was exactly what I was looking for! I wanted to learn more than just the basic moved but to also focus and learn about the flow of the body. This class was a perfect balance of movement and skills. I look forward to taking more classes and deepening my practice! Can’t recommend them enough!

I took private lessons from Stefana and classes form Tiia and can not say enough good things about my experience! It’s not just hooping lessons! It’s all about getting in touch with your body and allowing self expression while collaborating and becoming one with the hoop. Both instructors are very expressive and confident and so beautiful, inside and out. They are excellent instructors and helped me to be more comfortable with my body and to just let expression with it happen. I loved my experience and will be back for more!

I’ve only attended 2 or 3 of Stefana’s classes, and they have been super inspirational and so much fun. She really encourages and guides us into letting ourselves go, not worrying as much about technique (though she does have a bank of knowledge about dancing with a hoop), but really gets you into a space where you can DANCE and feel free. After just a couple of sessions, I was at a festival and danced with a borrowed hoop. I got several compliments and someone asked me if I did it regularly, and I’m honestly not a pro dancer or anything! I just enjoyed myself, with a huge smile on my face, and love in my heart. I recommend pre-​paying for her classes, as they are so popular they usually fill up!

Stefana definitely gets a 5 star review from me! Being an avid Unilocal user myself, I’ve never signed up until now because I want to spread the word that I have gained so much from this class. I signed up for 5 beginner lessons out of curiosity and left with feeling a sense of royalty to myself and truly getting in touch with the inner Goddess in me. The dance of hoop is not only fun but is sooo beautiful! I highly recommend Stefana’s class whether it be for fun or to get in touch with your natural feminine movement. It won’t be the last time I take her class and I have now adapted the hoop into my life as a medium to express myself.
As far as the single and only 1 star review from a guy, Michael… I was in Stefana’s class when you and your friend wanted to join and I am so upset with the way you handled the situation. Not only did all the people in the class pay to be part of this experience and lesson, but it was also very full… that’s a good thing, right? Stefana was more than happy for you to join and although the class ended up being full, more than a couple paying students offered for you to take their place. It’s unfortunate that Stefana has to pay with your bad review because her class was one of the most amazing and spontaneous decisions I’ve made.
If you are considering picking up a hoop, take Stefana’s class. You won’t regret it!

I learned so much, cant wait to take more classes. It was a great, the new location big studio has lots of room.
Being new to hooping I took the 6 hour intensive basic class, learned the tricks to making hooping look great!
The focus on flow and exploration is a way to learn that invites you to be the teacher to yourself, instead of do it this way, its like feel the movement and tune into the hoop as a dance partner.
I have a long way to go, I have a desire to hoop with fire, and felt like this was a great starting point for my journey.

Wow. Totally worth it! Stefana teaches from a place of intuition. She is more than passionate and patient and has the true gift of teaching. I guarantee you will walk out of her class gaining much more than a few hoop techniques. I learned a lot about not only hooping but something deeper more intrinsic and now I’m hooked and I can’t stop spinning =).

I am so happy to be able to leave a review for this class series. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would. I began hooping with the HoopGirl classes, but they were so expensive that I went looking for something else. I fould Hoop the Flow through and online search and the classes were in the Mission, right by my house, so I signed up.
Already knowing the basics on how to hoop, I took the hoop dance 5 series class and it completely transformed my practice. It taught me to move with my own flow and energy and create a dance and movement that was completely organic, as opposed to the HoopGirl classes which concentrated more on getting the moves a certain way. We were all able to connect with our own flow and energies without worrying about how it looked and as a result, we gained experience and knowledge that could not be taught. I am much more comfortable with my hoop and dance practice and every single person in the class looked and moved brilliantly and in their own style by the end. We were able to reach a level of self realization in our practice. Thanks to Stefana, I will definitely be back for more of her training.
Completely unpretentious, affordable, and fun!

I love Stefana’s classes! I was amazed at how much my practice improved while I was taking her class series (beginners and advanced beginners). It’s easy to approach a hoop class with the desire to learn cool tricks, but Stefana (wisely) encourages her students to focus on expression and flow first. Yes, you’ll learn some nifty moves in her classes, but her emphasis on flow and personal expression (and fun!) actually helped me to improve much more quickly than I would have by concentrating on mastering specific tricks.
Before each class I would find myself thinking at least once, «thank god I have my hoop class tonight.» Best therapy in the world.

I took the beginner’s 5 week series with Stefana. This review is for Stefana’s classes, and she gets 5 stars. I think it’s worth noting however that the TwinSpace studios does not get 5 stars from me as it is a rather confined space for hooping, the lighting is inconsistently working, and sometimes it smells like pot smoke in the building. Anyway, it’s the Mission, so these things are expected. ;)
Back to the review though.
Stefana is very passionate about dancing, and her classes are aimed at bringing out your inner dancer. The hoop makes a great partner, and just naturally encourages a graceful movement. After my very first session with Stefana, I was already having fun using the hoop to express myself. We didn’t even start hooping on the waist until the 3^rd or 4^th session, so don’t let an inability to do that stop you! We did beautiful movements simply holding on to the hoop with one or both hands.
After 5 weeks, I have a repertoire of simple moves that include using the hoop both on my waist/​body and off my body (arms), as well as moves from hand to hand, and moves to get the hoop on or off the body without stopping. We also practiced some «isolations» which create interesting optical illusions. I took my hoop to Mexico and practiced on the beach! This was a big step for me because for 36 years, I have rarely danced outside of a classroom environment.
I will continue my lessons with Stefana, as her class provides a safe and supportive environment to learn and play. While she is a beautiful dancer, she is not afraid to experiment, drop the hoop, or be silly. It’s inspiring to see her totally unabashed joy for dance. Sometimes she goes off on a tangent talking about her own dance experience, but it’s not bothersome because she is so sincere, and it’s also possible to continue practicing and moving while she talks. Stefana also makes a point to come around the room and give individual instruction to each student. Her teaching technique tends to focus on our intuitive abilities rather than technically breaking down each motion. In this case, because it is a simple childhood toy, it’s great not to «over think» the technique. and instead, just have fun playing and learning through experiencing.
When I took my class, it was all women (of all ages, races, and «types»), but I hope more men will join in. It seems suitable for just about anyone who likes to have fun and learn to dance.

I’ve completed two of Stefana’s series and they are amazing. I have told all my friends (and have even brought a couple to class!) about how much fun the class is and what a great teacher Stefana is — her ability to articulate the movements has been incredibly helpful. I also find her very inspirational — both how skillful she is with the hoop and how much joy she exudes while hooping. The classes provide both technique and guidance to make hooping more than a series of tricks.

I have been hooping for a few months now, but my flow didn’t really click until I took Stefana’s class. She inspired me to evolve from doing trick after trick to really exploring and moving with the hoop as a partner. I really feel like I have come out of her class a more enlightened dancer.
I love her teaching method and she has a beautiful and contagious energy. I will be signing up for more classes and workshops with her in the future. Thanks Stefana!

I just completed a weekend beginner intensive (10÷2÷10−10÷4÷10) with Stefana and I highly recommend it to anyone!
If you are a couch potato and haven’t hooped since the 3^rd grade you will remember why it was so fun to play. The atmosphere is supportive and there is no need to worry about your skill level.
If you are stuck in the same old workout routine hoop will break you out of the boredom and challenge your body in new ways. Your body will be sore in a good way! Exercise doesn’t have to suck! Take this class!
If you have taken no dance or all kinds of dance classes Hoop the Flow will liberate your inner dancer.
If you don’t have your own hoop, don’t worry. There are ones there and also ones for sale with no pressure. She can also make a custom one for you. I am a larger gal and Stefana made a hoop for me that was larger in diameter. She also decorated it with my favorite colors.
You will leave the class energized, exuberant and changed. Stefana is a wonderful teacher who is supportive of personal creative flow. She teaches more than the tricks you may learn elsewhere. She teaches you to express what is deep within. Believe me, it a beautiful thing.
TAKE THIS CLASS! You will love it!

Stefana is an amazing teacher who lights up the room with her constant and attentive energy. Hoop the Flow has given me the confidence I need to further my hooping practice and hoop proud. Looking forward to the advanced beginners class starting tonight!

Stefana is a delightful teacher and her love for hoop dancing is infectious. I recently finished the 5 week beginner series and I have had so much fun; I have returned for another 10 weeks with more friends. I am really pleased how much I have been able to pick up in such a short period of time and feel so rewarded when I learn something new. I highly recommend Hoop the Flow!

Stefana is one of the best teachers I’ve had in an exercise class. I have taken the beginner course twice and am now enrolled in the Advanced Beginner course. She is an amazing hooper, and is so excited about all her students learning how to get in touch with themselves and learn her passion.
Each time I have taken the course it has been better than the last, and it provides a wonderful release for me especially after a stressful day. I would highly recommend this class!

I just finished the beginner series and can’t even tell you how much I loved it! So much fun!!! I started the class knowing your basic hoop skill — the one the 5 year-​olds know. And now I can do all these tricks, flow them together, and am beginning to see how I can express my own dance style within them.
Stefana really breaks everything down so you can learn quite easily. She really encourages you to get in touch with your inner groove and make every movement your own.

This is a great approach to hula hooping combined with dancing. During the 90 minute class, there is not much room to think about anything else. The techniques so far are easy to pick-​up and there is plenty time for practice and individual creativity. Not to mention it is a great work out with lots of attention on your core.
