Hotel Nikko San Francisco

Loved this hotel! You know you’re at a nice hotel when the lobby is absolutely beautiful! The room was amazing but the bathroom was the best part. Thank you for the experience hotel nikko!

I’m going to say that Hotel Nikko in San Francisco is one of the best hotels I’ve ever stayed at! Yes, it is pricey, but the room I stayed in was really nice, all of the staff was extremely nice and have great customer service skills. It’s also located in a REALLY convenient place in downtown right next to Union Square (about 2 blocks away, maybe a 5 minute walk). There are also tons of places to eat close by, which was really great! If you’re looking to be right in Union Square for shopping and great food, this is a fantastic location. They also have a wonderful concierge service — my now fiancé called them up to help him plan a proposal! They ordered flowers and everything! :) It was fantastic!

Nice hotel. Rooms are clean and the room service is good. Mini bar is a nice perk. When I stayed there in early January the cable kept going on and off. Otherwise very pleasant stay with a cool view of downtown San Francisco.

Nice actually and I only have one complaint which is why I only gave it 3 stars. The walls must be paper thin. Even on the 11^th floor, we could hear people on the ground. Our neighbors were on an opposite schedule and I didn’t sleep much at all because the doors slam so loud. Other than the noise and no sleep, loved it. Great hotel in a good location that’s walking distance to a lot of stuff in the Union Square district. The room was comfy except for the bed, which my bf complained was too stiff for his back. The concierge and front desk staff were very friendly and helpful with directions, places to eat, etc. There is a Starbucks in the lobby which I found to be convenient. I’d stay here again.

I doubt I’ll come back here. I’d stay at the Westin at Union Square before coming back.
Pros
–very clean rooms
–spa like bathroom with sparkling white tub and sink, clear shower door and luxury bathroom amenities. I liked the orange blossom soap so much I decided to order more from the company (
) that makes it.
–whoever cleans the 14^th floor does a fantastic job. The room was cleaned promptly each day and was spotless. The bathroom was very clean. We had a minor problem with the shower not draining quickly and the problem was quickly fixed after notifying the front desk.
–bathroom has a separate tub and shower. The tub has no shower curtain or closure of any kind. I think you’re supposed to use it Japanese style. Wash and rinse off in the shower first then soak in the tub.
–beds are small but comfortable with a ton of pillows
–free decent coffee in the room. Coffee supplies were refilled each day
–modern updated décor. Curtains wallpaper carpet all seemed to be in good condition
–convenient location to union square. You have the cable cars, shopping, galleries, restaurants, Walgreens (for toiletries and snacks) right there and you’re close but not right next to the homeless and the ghetto though you may see some interesting characters though I never felt in danger.
–about five blocks up if you’re willing to walk up Mason street is a coin operated laundry which we used because I don’t like to wear clothes several days in a row even if I’m not sweating in SF weather
–as a light sleeper I recommend to fellow light sleepers to get a room on a higher floor. I was on the 14^th floor … you don’t hear the traffic just the sirens but those aren’t all that common.
–despite the fact the front desk is made to nickel and dime everything they are friendly
Ok, here are the buts and it’s a big but like a Kim Kardashian but (t).
Cons
–weird layout to the room. It’s an upside down L. See my photos. You enter the room but you can’t see your bed… you go down a short hallway. Still no bed. Make a right down shorter hallway to see a vanity area and bathroom on the right then turn left there’s the bedroom… I’ve always been in hotel rooms where the bed was visible right away and this weird layout would make me feel unsafe if I came here alone but I was glad my much stronger husband was with me to Krav Maga the ass of anyone hiding in the room
–bathroom door bangs to outdoor mirror area
–bathroom sink is raised. So it sits above bathroom vanity so rather than bending down you have to look up and this might be ok if you’re tall but isn’t most comfortable for someone petite or children. See my photo.
–no Japanese feel to this hotel. I say this as someone who is very familiar with Japan and Is married to a part Japanese spouse. If you came in here blindfolded through the entrance and weren’t told what hotel chain this was you’d think it was some generic American hotel. If you’re coming here for some Japanesee experience you’re not getting it. About the only Japanesey experience you’ll get is watching the many Japanese guests at the hotel.
–Nickel and diming: extra charge for a child in the room, extra charge to use the gym, extra charge to use the pool, extra charge to use the wi-​fi, extra to park the car, small water bottles in the room each costs $ 6, DON’T even touch anything in the mini fridge that’s already stocked or the sensors will make it seem like you ate the item. I made sure to take photos before we left the room so that I wouldn’t get dinged for eating their snacks.
–no friendly doorman to open the door. No doormen at the front at all but there are valets near the parking entrance. Given the proximity to the Tenderloin, there should be a full-​time doorman outside.
–regular bathroom scale under the bathroom sink… Hello! I’m on vacation. I don’t want to be reminded of creeping vacation weight gain. I’ll go home and weigh myself thank you very much.

Lots of trouble at the Hotel Nikko.
We booked a room thru the Hotel Tonight mobile app after viewing photos of a lovely looking room with a king size bed and large bathroom. Upon our arrival we were informed that we had booked in a lesser room with a queen bed and with tiny bathroom. When we asked about the room in the photo we were given the option to pay for an upgrade to stay in the room we thought we had purchased. Pretty tricky.
After paying to upgrade to a king room thanks to their misleading photos I discovered that the upgraded room had a queen bed. When I reported all of this trouble to management offered no remedy, no refund on the upgrade charge, no apology. We were told «that’s the catch when you book thru discount sites, we can book you in any room we want». When I asked about the size of the bed I was told, «King beds come in many sizes.»
Other problems: $ 6.50 small waters, no morning coffee in the lobby but they do have hideous 90’s smooth jazz blaring.
Just an all around awful experience, we wont be coming back. Misleading and dishonest with an unaccommodating management. Hotel Zetta was great last trip!

Hotel is okay. Rooms are smaller than what the pictures make it out to seem. Parking is expensive. Waited over 10 minutes for the concierge person to figure out how to help us check in. Ended up missing their «5pm –7pm» complimentary glass of wine at check in despite the couple next to us being offered a glass right in front of us (after 7 pm). Didn’t feel like our quality of service at check-​in was as good as the surrounding guests being checked in, which really upset me. Not sure that I’d recommend this place, seems over priced for the lack of quality customer service we had experienced.

Top notch fancy hotel with excellent service. This hotel is beautiful on the inside and is in a prime location where there is lots of food and tourist attractions such as cable cars, Lombard street, and union square.

I visited San Francisco for the second time last summer. This time around I was determined to stay at a better hotel and Hotel Nikko did not disappoint. This hotel is centrally located a short distance from the Powell Street BART station. Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted by a employee who took my suitcase and offered to deliver it to my room once I checked in. There was a line to check in, but it moved quickly. After a quick conversation with the front desk staff, I was on my way to my room on the 18^th floor. Since the room was on a high floor, I had a decent view of the street and tops of other buildings in the area. Not bad for a city view!
The bellhop delivered my suitcase two minutes after I keyed into the room and I appreciated the prompt service. He kindly gave me a quick overview of the bells and whistles in the room including the do not disturb light switch and iPad for hotel and city information. This hotel is very high tech and I loved it.
The bathroom was a nice size and the bed was comfy. It was a fairly cool day, so I appreciated being able to turn on the heat in the room even though it was the summer time.
The hotel has a classy, modern feel with an Asian-​themed on-​site restaurant. All the employees that I interacted with were courteous and helpful. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

We’ve stayed at a few hotels in SF, however, Hotel Nikko is the best! Customer service was great! It totally exceeded my expectations. Rooms were very clean. Front desk was nice! Since our flight got in early in the morning, they were able to accommodate us with early check in. The doormen were always so friendly. Check out was amazingly quick. An email was sent to me and all I had to do was click check out. Every hotel should be like this. Very tech savvy! As it was almost time to leave, we had left our luggage in the lobby. The employee that greeted us went above and beyond. Not only was he friendly, he gave us time to add more things to our luggage and said that when we were ready for a cab, to let him know. We will definitely come back and stay at Hotel Nikko!

This is a beautiful hotel with stellar service. I came for a business trip at the beginning of December and was blow away by the level of service I received. All the staff was very courteous and addressed you as Mr./Mrs./Ms. _​_​_​ (Which made it awkward at times since I have a last name that is difficult to pronounce). I asked for an early check in when I made the reservation, and they had a room ready for me when I arrived.
The hotel was decked out for Christmas and looked very beautiful. I’ve seen a lot of reviews that said that their rooms were small, but mine was a great size and didn’t seem cramped in the slightest. I, unfortunately, only had a view of the neighboring building, but one of my coworkers had a skyline view that was incredible. I ordered room service one night and it was what you would expect – ridiculously expensive and mediocre in quality.
My one complaint is that I tried to use their print center to print about 15 pages in PDFs and it only printed blank pages. After trying a couple times they had to print the pages out of their own printer, but I was left with extra charges on my credit card from many failed attempts. They told me they would credit the money back in my room bill, but they never did. Not cool.

Hotel Nikko is in a great spot just next to the Powell Station. Great spot as in convenient, but it is also just next to the Tenderloin so do your research if you are traveling on which areas are safe to be in by yourself at night. In addition, there are many Lyfts and Ubers roaming around the area so it is easy to get a ride.
The rooms are average space… bigger than something you would find in NYC. You cannot use the gym without paying an extra fee, so that is a bummer given the cost of the hotel. The beds are soft and we certainly got a good nights rest. The air conditioner was quiet and kept the room at a steady temperature. The shower is beautifully done.

I was originally planning on staying at Kabuki Hotel (closer to Japantown where I mainly wanted to visit. I know the reviews for that hotel aren’t that great.); the sauna room was what I wanted to try, but it was all booked, so this was my second choice… Hotel Nikko is close to Union Square, and little further is Chinatown.
I really appreciated and loved how Nikko Hotel kept me up-​to-​date via text message, before I was about to arrive, on trying to have my room ready by then. I was able to check in really early at 11:00am which was nice. It was great being able to rest right away after a long drive.
I read one review giving this place a low rating because they were disappointed how there was nothing Japanese about this hotel… lol Well, he is right… there is really no Japanese feeling at this hotel, but that’s fine.
I think the price is really more for the location and city view… the room is pretty small. I think the bathroom might be bigger or same size as the room itself.
You must pay extra to use their swimming pool and gym.
Valet parking is $ 50… It’s expensive, but not much of a choice… hefty parking fees any place you stay in the city… or you could stay in Hilton Garden away from the city if you don’t mind the drive… I know there’s self-​parking across the building, but that also seems like a hassle (no in-​and-​out privileges over there, which you do get with valet), especially with luggage… and I read too many stories about cars being broken into at night; I didn’t want to worry about that. Of course, there can be a risk with valet too, especially if you give the valet attitude and don’t tip. I’m just not really a fan of valet because I like having more freedom to get to my own car.
You do not want to drive around San Francisco anyway… and I thought downtown L. A was bad! Über or Lyft is definitely the way to go around here.

I guess if you want to experience the city feeling, staying at these kind of hotels are the way… I didn’t hate this place, but at the same time, not much of a fan of small rooms and valet parking. I guess I was expecting way more…

My bf and I had an excellent stay here during Fleet Week. They valet’d our car to the garage directly underneath the hotel with in & out privileges and affably greeted us at check-​in with glasses of wine. Splendid!
Our room was quite the shoe box, but I get it– city rooms. Nevertheless, it was cozy, clean to the max: awesome open shower with quality toiletries, plush bed and a lovely view of the city. I think they could have adjusted the closet doors though to bi-​fold. It’s difficult for a 6’2″ man to get in that small space to retrieve things– especially nestled up by the front door.
I would definitely return to Hotel Nikko for my next city rendezvous with the bf!

Had a decent stay. Booked through third party and upgraded when we arrived. Comfortable bed, great location, staff was amazing. Then I noticed the bites all over my legs and contacted the hotel after we had departed. Nikko said they would investigate and two weeks later I still had heard nothing. When I contacted them again to find out if they found bedbugs in room 2010 (the only difference between me and the person who did not have bites all over their legs were the beds we slept in) they finally checked it out and said they did not see any evidence, though they did not doubt I had an insect bite. I forwarded photos of the 20+ bites on my legs and they suggested that the bites came from the airplane. The only place I did not wear long pants was when I was in bed in Nikko.
It was not so much the fact that this happened (any property with a large number of international travelers could have this issue) but the way Nikko responded and handled our complaint that bothered me. I understand a business does not want to admit when issues such as this arise, but acknowledging there could be an issue and a simple apology in this case would have gone a long way.
Paying a high price does not always mean you are getting the best quality and I have since learned to research this type of issue before booking a room.

Not much to add here, except that it is an amazing hotel that ran a great deal on a travel website. I booked it and loved it.
The rooms was spacious by SFO standards. The king-​sized bed had a huge TV, but if you looked to the right, you could see out the window to a city view. Outlets weren’t as ubiquitous as I would have liked, but they were adequate.
Nice tech touch: A pad that controlled entertainment by the room.
Tech downer: The free wifi was slow. Not dial-​up slow, but It was almost 4G slow sometimes.
Nice regular touch: Room lights have a button near the bed, enabling you to turn them on and off without getting out of the bed.
Regular downer: The shower (spacious!) didn’t have a great place to hang a towel.
Personal note: I am a geographic savant. I don’t know why, but I am generally really good at orienting myself and knowing where I am and hoe to get somewhere. For whatever reason, this hotel had me turned around every single time. It basically has entrances on three streets, and I couldn’t remember what street was which. Even so, the location is awesome, near the BART and Muni stop at Powell Street (and all the tourist shopping that area allows).
There are cabs lined up outside (although I’m a Lyft kind of guy). Doormen hold the door open for you. Service is impeccable.
Stay here (unless you have a car or need fast wifi).

This was my first time staying at Boutique hotel and I really liked it. The hotel has strong Japanese influences and you can tell from the second you walk into the lobby which is filled with a ton of mini fountains and minimalist architecture. There are also several pieces of artwork up on display that make this hotel worthy of at least a quick peak inside. Check in was efficient and we were offered a complimentary glass of wine!
The room itself was small, but cozy. Originally we were put into a room that had scuff marks on the walls, but a quick call to the front desk had us switched to another room on a higher floor that was immaculate. The bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom had a rainshower as well as high quality bath products. There were also two very nice robes and slippers. This hotel is definitely meant for either couples or solo travelers because there is no lock on the bathroom door and the shower glass is see through!
Overall I really enjoyed my stay here and would definitely come back!

The room/​bed is smaller than most hotel rooms I’m used to, but I quickly got used to it, and it actually felt pretty cozy. More importantly, the room was immaculate and the bed/​pillows were so comfy.
It’s also pretty cool you get a complimentary glass of wine at check-​in.
I must’ve been in some sort of mind fog because I completely forgot to pack my bag of toiletries with me. The hotel has toothbrushes/​toothpaste but not makeup remover wipes. No biggie though, cuz there’s a Walgreens literally right around the corner.
All of the staff, from the front desk to bellman, are genuinely friendly and kind. I would recommend this hotel to friends.

The hotel was so awesome! I love it. The atmosphere is so awesome. The room wasnt ready till 4 pm. They gave us free pass for fitness room and pool for 5 days. We booked for 2 rooms.
It was a right choice to stay at this hotel. There are so many conference rooms in the hotel. Plus, 2 restaurants too. Make sure to check out the hotel. I walked around and see pretty interesting things.

I travel to SF once a month and have stayed in most major hotels. The Nikko is by far the best.
The main feature is a large, warm, indoor swimming pool and jacuzzi that is rarely overrun by kids. This means a lot to me as
I love the ability to swim and exercise quickly while traveling.
The hotel service is great, the rooms are clean, the room service is high quality, there’s a restaurant and a Starbucks in the hotel, and the location is extremely easy right in the middle of Union Sq.

My feelings are mixed about the Hotel Nikko. As someone who has stayed at a lot of hotels in the area, I guess I had much higher expectations considering the price. I left feeling I’d had a decent experience, but not one that warranted a price talk almost double what I’d pay at an upscale area boutique hotel.
For starters, my room was small. Comically small. I spent a good couple minutes just trying to figure out how they got the bed in there. It was definitely a different layout than had been portrayed in their website images, which wasn’t a big deal, but the size was underwhelming. Nevertheless, they seemed to be on top of their game in every other department. Service was prompt when I requested a delivery to my room, the bar was stocked with finer goods, everything was spick and span, the shower had great water pressure and temperature and — most importantly — the bed was as fluffy and comfortable as it gets in a hotel.
Another problem was the downstairs bar. Looking to kill some time before heading out for drinks with friends, I decided to hit up the bar for a cocktail. They weren’t open as posted at 4:30, so I asked the front desk and then the concierge and they were perplexed. I ended up sitting in the lobby and fiddling with my phone until they finally opened almost an hour later. The reason for not opening on time is still unbeknownst to me.
Hotel Nikko may be worth the extra bucks for the higher end traveler, especially if you want to get a King room or a suite. But for little old me, I didn’t find a lot that would keep from looking at other less expensive options in the future.

If you’re staying in San Fran and want to be near Union Square you can hardly do worse than Hotel Nikko.
We booked through Hotwire and got a reasonable deal. They’re not much on extras; you’ll pay $ 25 if you want to use the fitness facilities, more than $ 50 a day to valet park and the rooms are small (but that’s San Francisco). It’s clean, convenient, safe, the staff is friendly and there’s a Starbucks in the hotel.
What more could you need?

This was the second time we stayed at this particular hotel. We stayed here for the convenience plus my HB LOVES the buffet breakfast as they cater to the Japanese.
We checked in on Halloween morning around 1030ish. We could not park at the hotel at that time because many of the streets in downtown San Francisco were blocked due to the victory Giants parade that was planned at noon. We did have good news that our room was ready because normally their check in time was at three PM. That worked out very well as our daughter had to attend a seminar across the street and it was currently going on.
Lucky for us we spent a lot of time in the room as it was raining in the City that day. There were massive crowds in the downtown area waiting for the parade. Our hotel was only a couple blocks away from Market street. It was all good though as the Giants were celebrating three wins within 5 years; that’s awesome. Plus they brought the rain that we desperately needed. I don’t think anyone was complaining. It was an exhilarating feeling to be in the City at this time. I loved it.
The hotel room that they gave us was bigger than the first; maybe because this time there were three of us staying at the hotel. They gave us two queen beds.
The mattresses were soft but the heavier comforters were nice and warm. The room’s view was not where you can see Market Street or Civic Center but that was fine. We were just across from the ice machine which was convenient for us.
Because of the previous Unilocal reviews and our previous experience of having been there, we didn’t take advantage of the valet parking there like we did the first time that was inclusive with our package at that time. It costs like 50 plus you have to tip the valet guys. We parked in the Downtown/Mason-O’Farrell street garage which was kitty corner from the hotel, very close! We parked on the top floor and could see our car from our hotel room. We didn’t park at the garage until after five pm after all of the victory Giants celebrations.
We didn’t stay on the highest Club levels like we did first time where there were fabulous views. They did have tasty appetizers like fried chicken wings, cheese, fruit and drinks. They also had like continental breakfast in the morning on that Club level too.
Our hotel stay included buffet breakfast at Anzu which was super nice. I did look forward to that as we had enjoyed it the first time we were there.
Checkout time was at 11 AM; they did give you options to stay later but it does cost extra. We didn’t stay as we wanted to go out and enjoy the Bay. This hotel is very upscale and clean. The bathrooms are good size as ours included the separate soaking tub and shower.
If you need to stay downtown San Francisco, you may want to consider this hotel. I did call the hotel itself to make the reservations as I wanted a package that included breakfast. We wanted parking but it wasn’t included this time; I kind of remember last time the valet parking was an issue that I wasn’t very happy about it. That time we stayed back in August of 2013. That’s probably why we just parked across the street instead. The hotel is so close to everything downtown in the City that you can walk to Chinatown, Ferry Building, Union Square, Civic Center, the downtown Wesfield Mall and everywhere else in walking range! Do yourself a favor and make it a playdate. San Francisco is a nice place to visit!
