Made an appt at Injayan for potential consignment. I’ve never sold a piece of jewelry before & had no idea what to expect
During my phone consultation w/​the owner, I already knew he was predisposed not to like my ring — telling me the shape of the diamond was not popular & since the stone was not great quality — which I had disclosed on our call it was not — it could take him a long time to sell… but bring it in & let’s see what we had
So while I had some indication of what to expect… which wasn’t a lot, I never thought I’d experience what I did
I can say for a fact that my appt lasted no more than 60 sec & I will even be so bold as to say it was more like 30 sec. He sat in front of me, took the ring & looked at it in his scope for about 10 sec.
He then asked me how the appraiser rated the color & when I told him, he immediately handed back the ring with: «UGH, not interested. You can cover up inclusions w/​the brilliance of the stone but not yellow.»
Then he got up out of his seat, turned around, & went to the back of the shop, to continue whatever it was he was doing, before I arrived. I was left there at the desk, completely dismissed, to pack up my ring & exit his establishment in total humiliation
He couldn’t even sit there until I was out of his shop or even thank me for taking the time to bring my item in? I surely thanked him for his time… where was the common courtesy?
Better yet, knowing this was a whole new process for me, how about directing me towards another viable selling option… even if it was trying my luck on eBay — I mean, anything in the least bit helpful or polite?
Don’t like the ring? Fine. Don’t want it? Fine. What is NOT fine is the total disregard with which I was paid. If you ever think I would consider you for a purchase after this (non) selling experience… Methinks NOT!

Thanks to the Injayans I have my dream engagement ring! They are very knowledgeable about diamonds and made sure that I got the very best quality for my ring. They were wonderful to work with and they gave me an excellent price for such a beautiful piece! My ring is my prized possesion and I wouldn’t have found it without them. Don’t go anywhere else!

I’ll never buy jewelry anywhere else! I bought a ring here a few years ago and found the couple that owns the place really nice and helpful. Recently, when I broke one of the stones, I brought it back to them to see if they could fix it. They were so kind and even remembered me! They fixed it no problem and in the meantime told me a lot about their jewelry. It’s very apparent that they have a lot of knowledge and experience. I usually feel a lot of pressure to buy from salespeople, but Steve and Sue just made me feel really comfortable and that their first priority was that I found something I liked. I will be back!

This place is AMAZING! After shopping around from jewelry store to jewelry store we found this place. It located right in the heart of downtown S.F. and so easy to get to even if you don’t know the city that well. The couple that works there are so knowledgeable and friendly. I brought in an ad from a different jewerly store and they were able to offer me the same price for better quality rings or lower price for same quality. We ended up getting both of our wedding band there and even some earrings for the wedding. Once I found out that they do appraisals for the F.B.I. I knew this was a legitimate place.

After the bustling, in-​and-​out treatment at Derco (the one in the Jewelry Mart), this was exactly who I needed to talk to to feel comfortable with my engagement ring setting. Mr. Injayan is a very experienced gemologist who specializes in appraisals, especially of old stones and settings. His office is small and perched above Shreve & Co. He can get you semi-​mounts and commission custom pieces, and he really knows his stuff. Also, he has some great second hand jewelry to browse through — we found my band while waiting for the appraisal!
Regarding the appraisal, he talked us through everything and made us feel comfortable. I definitely know more about diamonds now than I did when I walked in.
