I love Dr. Iwach! I love knowing my eyes are in the best possible hands. I never worry about losing my eyesight because Dr. Iwach is my doctor. But today I want to talk about his staff. When I went in today, there was a lady who looked to me like she’d had a stroke. His staff was so darned nice with her. There was one young woman in particular who was assisting her and I saw another staff member smiling at their interaction. I thought to myself, she must be thinking how nice it is to work in such a lovely, caring environment. Beyond that, everyone is super efficient! And, Dr. Iwach is concerned with how I am treated. Oh, and I like their choice of entertainment on those big screens: Old musicals! It may not be to everyone’s liking, but as I headed off from Minnesota to NY when I was 18 in 1962 to conquer Broadway, I love it. Today a young man and I had a «moment» laughing at a wonderfully funny interaction between Marlon Brando and Jean Simmons in Guys and Dolls. The music is generally so low you don’t even notice it if you don’t want to. What a nice place to visit, even under the circumstances. I also think their location is very easy to get to.

I’ve lived in 7 different cities around the world and had at least one glaucoma doctor in each of them. Hands down, Dr Iwach is my favorite. My pressures had always fluctuated throughout the years, averaging just slightly higher than my target. My previous doctors experimented with drops, always saying, «let’s just wait a bit longer and see if we can get the pressure under control». It was frustrating, as I was always waiting«just a little longer» and my eyes continued to slowly deteriorate… until I started seeing Dr Iwach. He knew exactly how to get my pressures under control and was the first to take any meaningful action. For over 4 years now my pressures have rated below my target. I have Dr Iwach to thank for getting the job done and doing what none of my previous doctors were able to do. He will be my doctor for as long as he is practicing and I remain in the bay area. Actually i take that back… if I move out of the bay area, I’ll probably still fly here to see him. There’s nothing more important than my eyes, and I know they are in good hands with Dr Iwach.

My poor rating only has to do with his treatment of children. For older patients, like those we saw in his waiting room, he is probably excellent. But I do not recommend him for children. Our 6-year-old unnerved him because Dr. Iwach couldn’t quickly and effectively get the eye drops in our son’s eyes to test him.(He had to leave the room to compose himself.) Also, Dr. Iwach was unprepared for us(clearly hadn’t read my son’s file beforehand and hadn’t done any research on his condition, even though he is a well-known researcher). And we spent hours waiting for test after test. Result: inconclusive. He had no basis of comparison other than for adults, so he could not tell us what we needed to know. Since then another doctor has been able to test my son and he doesn’t have glaucoma. But Dr. Iwach is clearly a doctor for adults, not young children.

I’ve had glaucoma since age 8, caused by an accident. I’ve had countless eye doctors(I’m now 50), and Dr. Iwach is as good as they come. Highly recommended.

Absolute professional with a great staff! He takes the time to explain exactly what the tests are for and what the results are. The office on Stevenson is close to BART.

Dr Iwach is the best glaucoma doctor in the United States. He graduated from UCLA at a very early age and then went on to Stanford Medical School. People come from all over the world to see him because he is so well known. He also does surgery and teaches at Stanford. My Mom has glaucoma and has gone through doctor after doctor through the years until she was finally sent to Iwach. She said most other doctors don’t monitor her pressure and are very lax about things but Iwach really worried over here and changed her medications until she is nearly normal. She said he saved her eyes. I went with her to his offices because she can’t drive after getting tested and he answered all of my questions and was very, very caring. If I had this eye disease, I would make the trip to see him but be prepared to wait because he is so busy it might take weeks to get in.
