Jade Chocolates

This place makes me wish I had been a chocolatier! Used to go to Cocoabella in the Westfield to pick up artisanal SF made chocolate as generic gifts for out of towner friends… that is until I discovered Jade chocolates. What a fortuitous find! Laced with Asian flavors and influence and beautifully crafted truffles, I only want to get SF made chocolate from here. But if I’m feeling cheap, I’ll walk down to See’s Candy on Clement. That that Ghiradelli chocolates!

Cute store, polite service. However, I didn’t think the chocolate was anything special and it was very expensive

Delicious chocolates, perfect for gifts. $ 2 a piece and the flavors are delicious. Everybody I’ve gifted seems to have loved them.
Besides individual pieces, they also sell chocolate bars, random chocolate covered items, and drinks. I tried their ginger in dark chocolate but wasn’t quite a fan of it. I’m a huge fan of anything ginger, and these were covered in too much sugar thus losing the spiciness of the ginger.

Chocolate Jewel in the Avenues. Mindy makes these chocolates by hand and changes it up frequently. Watch out its easy to become a regular customer here.

Mindy gave us an amazingly interactive chocolate tasting and making experience the other night at her store /​kitchen with my family and friends. We couldn’t believe all the sinfully delicious samples she kept tempting us with and a story of what each one is made of and how creatively named. My favorite was Dragon’s Breath with complex flavors of bitter sweet, smokey and spicy delicately blended.
The hands-​on fun part then continued with us designing and making our own personalized chocolates that included adding many bits of savory flavorings and condiment toppings that we chose. I highly recommend you book a reservation for a very unique, special and entertaining chocoholic filled evening. We went home smiling with our box of treats like, «kids in a candy store.»

My family has been following Jade Chocolates since its Kickstarter and each time we go in, there is something new to enjoy. We especially like the Kuro Genmai bars and the mango rice paddies. This time we tried the Hojicha/​cardamon tea float (think root beer float but with tea!) and the mint confetti brownie sandwich, both of which were good.

I didn’t realize that Jade Chocolate has a permanent shop until I saw a Living Social deal. I ended up purchasing a box of chocolate truffles to mail out of state to my friends who said they loved the gift. The chocolates were still good a week later. The shop didn’t offer any truffle samples so I purchased three to try for myself. I loved that they used Asian ingredients in their chocolates. The friendly, helpful shop person said that kalamansi lime and cardamom chai are their most popular truffle flavors so I went with those and Thai basil. I liked the kalamansi lime and Thai basil (slightly spicy), but didn’t like the cardamom chai. My friends said they loved the passionfruit (without caramel), peanut buddha mango jam, and coconut paradise green tea so I need to return to try those for myself. They said that the iron goddess oolong and cardamom chai were their least favorite. I’ve tried samples of their chocolate bars at fairs and enjoy the truffles more than the chocolate bars.

Literally just stopped by, after my friend let me try the roasted brown rice chocolate bar, it had a very strong unique Asian flavor.
Food:
I ordered the the roasted black sesame, Jasmine Peral and Lychee Rose Green Tea $ 2 each. All the flavors were really strong and you could taste each one distinctly :) In addition to truffles they also sell a variety of Asian flavor bars for $ 6.5. With small samples for each flavor. My favorite is the roasted brown rice, Jasmine tea and Green Tea chocolate bar!

Small store with Asian inspired delicate chocolate products. Tried their lychee rose green tea hot chocolate. $ 6.5 (might be a bit pricey. but…) Felt impressive for first taste. You actually can taste strong lychee and rose flavor. Unique flavor! Great treat in windy days.
Also, tried some sample for Genmai (Japanese roasted brown rice) chocolate bar, like it as well. But I felt kinda overprice for 2oz. They don’t offer Genmai flavor for truffles.

Every time I pass this place on the 38, I have to stop myself from going in there and buying a bunch of truffles. It’s difficult, but sometimes I give in. The staff are super friendly and knowledgeable, which is great. They don’t pressure you into buying more than you want, but I usually walk out of there with a bunch of chocolate mostly because it’s so good. They also make good gifts if you’re good at sharing. I would definitely recommend stopping in because the location is super convenient and the quality is great.

This place is perfect, Quality, display, customer service & chocolate all AMAZING! Can’t wait to return on a cold day and try the hot chocolate :-)

I’ve been eating Jade chocolates since I tried their Genmai bar — yes, Genmai (roasted rice)‘s toasty umami notes with chocolate’s toasty umami and sweet notes — pure bliss.
Ran across the Jade chocolate shop on my way back from lunch at the Richmond Burma Superstar.
Amazing, unique, delicious flavor combos — seaweed and chocolate tiles, lemongrass truffle mochi, and a plain and perfect brownie.
All of their delicious chocolate bars are available to sample.
Their hot chocolate selection looks amazing, so need to return to try the cardamom hot chocolate.

Best chocolatier in SF without question.
I tried a box of 12pcs with an assortment of flavors.
My daughter picked up banana mochi box and brownie.
Everything is very good.
This chocolate is the best I’ve tasted so far.
They not only taste good but look good as well.
The shop has a nice, clean design, the owner is so nice and courteous.
I would definitely recommend stopping by here if you want to get the best piece of chocolate and mochi you can get.

Several small business venture out to the Japanese Cherry Blossom festival to showcase their specialties, and that’s exactly how I came across Jade Chocolates.
Asian and Pacific Islander influences are incorporated into their delicate and intricate handmade chocolates, such truffles with kalamansi lime, lychee green tea, and Thai basil; chocolate bars infused with roasted brown rice, lemongrass, or cardamom; and bagged treats such as chocolate covered dried mangoes and rice paddies (crispy rice with dried mangoes, almonds, and chocolate). You must appreciate the chocolates though; let them slowly melt in your mouth so you can really taste the spices and teas.
With any small businesses, items are often pricey, ie $ 11 for five truffles here. Jade Chocolates is no exception, but they use fine quality ingredients, are handmade, and are not mass produced. Owner/​founder Mindy Fong is a San Francisco native with family history here dating back to the 1900s, so hopefully her business will stay put so I can revisit many times in the future!

This place has a very interesting selection of chocolate bars/​truffles/​drinks. They have some samples pieces of the bars, but not all of the different options, there is a Unilocal offer for truffles purchase, and many different hot chocolate drinks (takes a little while to make em) that are listed by the type of chocolates.
I tried some of the chocolate bar samples and purchased some truffles (nothing special about mint meltaway besides nice Asian design, sesame is good if you like strong sesame taste, I’ve had better lychee rose sweets, salted caramel really showcases that unique caramel taste that salt brings out, and I can see why cookie crunch is children’s favorite since it taste like cookie butter). The mint hot chocolate was a thick dark chocolate drink with some mint infused; it isn’t you typical hot chocolate you can drink a ton of. While my friend got creamsicle (sp) which was basically like a hot orange cream popsicle.
Oh, and their hours on Unilocal aren’t correct.
For now, I’ll give them four stars. I might revise the stars after trying more items and they update their hours on Unilocal.
Update (tried new things):
First of all, I tried their limited time truffle mochi, which were disappointing to me. I was hoping they were truffle flavors made into mochi, but they were more like truffles stuffed inside a dry/​hard mochi.
On the other hand, tried more/​new truffles and chocolate bars. I have to say that the terracotta (almond & sea salt) and orient espresso (espresso & cardamon) are my favorite out of the bars. While cookie crunch and salted caramel are my favorite truffles.

I was so intrigued by this little store on Clement street. When I walked inside there was a display of truffles behind the counter and chocolate bars lining the walls. These chocolates aren’t just any chocolates, they’re Asian inspired. Some of these chocolates are mixed with brown rice, Jasmine tea, lemon grass, as well as many other ingredients.
There are little dishes of small chocolate pieces for you to sample the chocolate.
I ended up ordering a Jasmine Hot Chocolate. The hot chocolate was rich and slightly sweetened with just a hint of jasmine. While I wishes the jasmine was a little stronger, I loved the hot chocolate.
I didn’t realize it when I ordered the hot chocolate that happy hour is between 10-​noon. If you order hot chocolate, you get a free truffle of your choice. I decided to get the sunflower truffle which is basically chocolate with sunflower seed butter on the inside. It was definitely worth trying.
I would definitely return to try some of their other chocolates, drinks, and desserts.

Great little chocolatier that specializes in Asian-​inspired flavors, ffering a variety of fine chocolate truffles, teas, snacks, and hot chocolate.
Their chocolates are rich without being overly sweet (big plus in my book). I’ve tried the Lychee and Sesame truffles and enjoyed them both! Their signature goodie is the Rice Paddie, which is a cute little snack made up of rice crispies bits, chocolate, and mangoes.
What I like the most is probably their gourmet hot chocolates. I tried the Jasmine hot chocolate and was hooked immediately. It’s rich, smooth, with a subtle Jasmine undertone. I’ll definitely go back to explore more flavors and try more truffles.
Right by the 38L and 38 Muni stop at Geary and 6^th Ave. Hard to find street parking here so plan accordingly!

I love chocolates, especially dark chocolates. I was out hunting for leeks at the Richmond Farmer’s Mkt to make one of my fav Gary Danko recipes — garlic saffron soup. I found Jade chocolates at the market and she gave me samples of several chocolates and I settled on a bar of Mahal (cinnamon, ylang ylang, coconut) which was 72% bittersweet chocolate. It was delicious.
The choc was smooth and if you just let a piece of it melt in your mouth instead on chomping down on it like most people do, you can savor the aromatic chocolate, hint of cinnamon with ylang ylang which reminded me of a delicate tea and a tad of coconut bit. What a treat! And it would truly be a treat because it was over $ 6 for a 2 oz bar.
The bar is wrapped in this great paper and on the back of the label it says it’s wrapped in Lokta paper, an ecologically grown plant in the Nepal mtns and handmade. It provides a stable income for the Nepalese.
My palate has long graduated from the commercially mass produced Ghiradelli, Lindt, even Godiva bars. The See’s chocs altho’ uses wonderful Guittard choc is marred by too much sugar. This choc bar was well balanced to me without tasting overwhelmed by sugar. I’ll have to visit their store on 6^th/​Geary when I’m shopping in the Richmond dist. again.

Definitely very good chocolates. Hope they keep up the marketing or else I can see a small place like this in this area fail. The store front is not bad, but selling expensive chocolates needs an attractive store, hope the have plans to improve.
I’m a believer in their goods, I can definitely taste the high quality. The boutique chocolate scene is quickly getting crowded, hope the owners of this place survive.

The current hours are 10 – 6 except Sunday where they can be found at the farmers market. They have 6 types of hot chocolate, which I have found to make a great date night treat. The hot chocolate is so smooth and the flavors are complex yet well balanced. I am excited to have them join the neighborhood, the 38L stop never tasted so good!
